Hearing Al Michaels’ voice during a game is so soothing to me. His voice resonates football & I’m bummed he’s not doing SNF anymore. He’s still sharp as ever & he helped me tolerate listening to Cris Collinsworth during the game.
The Cris Collinsworth haters remind me of all the Howard Cosell haters back in the day. Cris is great and a wonderful representative of Astronaut High!
@@Private_Idaho_1 That’s comparing apples to oranges - Collinsworth is NOTHING like Howard Cosell. Everyone knew Howard - he was the most colorful sports analyst & he hosted SNL. Most people don’t know Collinsworth, who is rather mediocre & seems arrogant. Howard was bombastic & charming, as Al said. He was a caricature, who captivated viewers’ attention & made them laugh. But he knew his facts & sports & was an excellent broadcaster. He was like a mix between Harry Caray & Ron Wolfley, a former NFL player who is the most popular Sports analyst in AZ (where I live).
Al is a living legend of sports broadcasting. I could listen to him talk for days. So interesting. What a storied career. Thank you Al, for all you've done to elevate sports. ❤
Hadn't seen Al in years. (great interview) Not sure why, but his look, his voice, his mannerisms, his humor and (fun) story-telling, his bluntness, he reminded me a bit of Robert Loggia.
I'm a Huge Al Michaels Fan, starting from when he was announcing Baseball with Joe Nuxull on The WLW 700 AM Cincinnati Reds Games. That was a Beautiful story about Howard Cosell knowing who he was & signing autographs in a street Brawl in KC!
@@mitchbrown6652 Yes, Cosell said that more than once about several different players no matter their color and said he used to call his grandchildren that as a term of endearment, so his motives were likely not intended as a slur or slight yet it is, of course, better to be very aware of the impact of our words even when not intended to hurt.
@@LisaLGruman I have no problem with him calling his grandkids little monkeys that makes 100% sense I get it. But yaa honestly you said it best people need to be very aware of the impact of their words. I hope it wasent like in that way. But still, seems weird. Also, I did enjoy the story of him getting out of the limo and broadcasting a fist fight on the street lol
Funniest part is even after the 'aquarium' of vodka, Howard was right! He DID know who he was! He knew when he was wearing the canary sport coat, no matter where or when, he was God and the world stops for him. Crazy, but true back then.
The funniest Howard Cosell story was told on Monday Night Football when he turned to his co-host Fran Tarkenton and said that he was once in a place that had illegal fights going on and Cossell yelled out PUT YOUR COCKS AWAY !!! Actually, it was roosters fighting illegally. But, the way Cosell put it was funnier. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So by this comment the NFL removed Al from future games in the playoffs? Ridiculous. I have a new found respect for this man. Love seeing him being interviewed.
Right on, Mr. Cosell! I know who I am. Brilliant! And he interviewed another brilliant man during a Monday Night Football game - John Lennon. Then let many of us know later, he’d been murdered 💔 Well done, Howard. RIP, both of you 🌹🌹
My 1st searing memory of Al Michaels, was in 1989. Al was calling the WS in the Bay Area in 1989, i think it was in Oakland for that one; and the lights start blinking and ground is rumbling, things are shaking, & poor Al, is trying to describe what he thinks might be happening, 'i think we're having an earthquake Folks?' or thereabouts. He tried to stay on the air as long as possible, but it was inevitable the game couldn't continue and the devastation turned out to be horrific. The whole Series had to be cancelled, but to this day, my biggest memory was Al Michaels trying to explain what he was feeling & seeing on that fateful day.
@@montrealsports29 - He was there to call the game. I know it hadn't quite started. But did you google how it ended later or just going from memory? but yeah, it was just ppd.

Geez, he's been telling that same Cosell story for 30+ years. I was hoping for something different but as soon as he said the word "limousine," I knew what was about to come.
Mr. Michaels thank you so very much for saying during the game in Santa Clara on September 21st, 2023. "Why Do We Show Pictures of SF when we're in Santa Clara?" You have pointed out just how ridiculous this situation is with the 49ers located almost 50 miles away from SF. The Forty Niners need to be in SF, not 3 blocks from San Jose city limits.
Al Michaels was a much better interview than I was anticipating. He's being wasted on MNF. It's the material he's working with. Dude should have a roundtable talk show but telling true stories not partisan garbage. I normally feel bored with the MNF formula. John Madden and Howard Cosell pretty hard acts to follow. Al Michaels probably be first to admit that.

Al Michaels used to be the only sports broadcaster that I could count on for calling a good game. He's always had a measured calm about his delivery. HOWEVER, this year, I've caught multiple games where he just shows NO enthusiasm. Touchdowns, big plays, big run backs, interceptions etc. He had just lost his omph. Such a shame because he's still pretty good in other ways during the broadcast but he shows NO excitement during the game. Touchdown? Forget about it. Watch the call on Monday night 11/9 when Carolina ran the kick off or punt (can't remember) back ALL THE WAY for a TD! He was basically asleep as he called that. I thought maybe it wasn't a real play (maybe a penalty or something) bc of how low key and unenthused he was. Comon man!
