You can tell that they enjoy playing this song soooo much, it's rediculous how great this band is. There needs to be more modern bands with this kind of love and passion for playing together and music
Kiedis is the only person that could ever lead this band... he's not a classicaly trained singer, and hes not always on key (as people love to point out) but you can find someone in american idol who can stay on key. Kiedis's voice is just perfect to me, nobody does it like him
Couldn't agree more Nick, Tony is irreplaceable when it come's to a Chilli Pepper frontman, it just wouldn't work w/o him. Actually, this core four, Anthony, Chad, Flea & John, they mesh together so well & compliment one another so beautifully it would be nothing short of heartbreak for me to have to see any kinda lineup change @ this juncture in the game. We've been down that road before & were somehow fortunate enough to find our way back to the bizarre, symmetrical Beauty that is RHCP. These guy's man, (speechless) I Love em' ! They're such a positive constant in my Life, how do you thank someone for something like that..? Amazing Band, Amazing Bunch of Guys...🌶🖤♾
Claire, I stumbled on this while looking for the best copy from Looking Glass to add to my library. I heard this and stopped looking! VERY WELL DONE. This song has a lot of sentimental value to me. I was just a 17 year old kid raised in the mountains of Colorado when I joined the US Navy. On my deployments faaaaar away I would think of this song but I was thinking of just how much I truly loved my childhood in those beautiful mountains! This song got me through some really rough times!
Same here. If I've had a bad day or am feeling low I come here to watch 5 middle age men just loving life singing possibly one of the most uplifting songs ever written.
sick version, this cover suits their style very well and yes Flea is god on the bass. He has complete mastery of the instrument , yet he knows when NOT to play, which is even more important than tripping out on cheesy scales for a whole song. The guy is a total musician, he is a trumpet prodigy as well, no one can ever knock this guys endless talent.
I saw this live in Cardiff on this tour. When Anthony or Flea introduced the song they said they were playing it for themselves mainly and they would be enjoying it more than the audience. Then when they played this I was almost in tears as I loved the original by Looking Glass when I was much younger. They obviously didn't realise that some in their audience were old enough to remember the original when it was in the charts.
Yes, Flea owns the bass. The bass player for Maiden has got have fastest fingers I've ever seen on the bass. His name escapes me right now. Love the bass guitar in the right hands...
This song sounds so happy and fun , even more when we see john's smile at 1:18. He was really having a good time playing this. I ever have to come back to this video to catch a good vibe.
When they covered this or The Bee Gees or Elton John at concerts it was all Frusciantes idea. You can tell he loves playing the music he grew up with live.
These cats are truly having a blast jamming this song! You can see it & feel it! Their not playing for 80,000 people somewhere. It's just the 4 of them in a gurage grooven!
I get it, josh is a good musician. But there's just a feeling of happiness that I get watching John on that stage with the band. They all seem to be so happy and full of energy with John.
Perhaps because they were just younger and also different. But honestly speaking I feel what you're saying. And it actually kills me a bit to know I won't see them perform like this.
I love this they're all grinning during the whole song. It's great to see ,at that time, that after 20 years of playing they still enjoy making music and finding fun songs to play
This was one of the greatest songs of 1972 I remember riding in the backseat going down country roads in the Summer with the windows down hearing this on the radio as a kid
Whenever I watch something from that show (Rock Palast 2004) I'm chuckling. John's worst outfit ever, Anthony's worst vocals (he was sick), but the crowd loved them and the Peppers were smiling and happy. Love it :)
Well, although Antony going out of tune in many songs due his tinnitus was attacking (mainly parallel universe) i loved this show. John are amazing in vocals and improving solos, and i liked his sport outfit lol . Flea and Chad both excellent as always. The Zephyr Song from here is my favorite version.
Very nice cover from the band. I've always love the soulful sound of Looking Glass. The Chili Peppers have the chops to pull it off, and they did well. Nice job, boys !!!
Covering this song, already one of the coolest bands of all time, just makes the chilis even cooler. One of the nicest covers of one of the 70's best songs
John, when he came back, was unstoppable. Highly, highly underrated guitarist due to his drug and disillusionment problems where his playing was subpar.
@@drgrasshopper9924 yes absolutely Josh I feel was the only one that could have filled in but the band just isn't the band without John have loved them since mother's milk
Just found this video. My God, 1 of my favorite songs since a young girl. Hats hats RHCP, especially seeing you have had such fun playing it. Thanks for making ME smile. Love to all.....
I've listened to this several times now. Their musicianship is even better than the original recording. I just love the interplay between Flea and Chad. Flea is so melodic, and Chad, when he goes from intense moments to quieter beats gives way to Flea to do his thing. Really listen to what's going on here. It's incredible. But, the 4 of them are so connected, too. I really love that we get to hear a different side to them in this cover of a great 70's tune that I enjoyed back in the day when it came out. Hey, I've gotta go, there's this great cover of a 70s song by the RHCP I need to listen to again :)
Anyone wanting or needing a dollop of joy today should watch/listen to this Red Hot Chili Peppers’ cover of The Looking Glass’s song “Brandy”. Flea, the bassist, is having more fun per note than any human alive. If this doesn’t lift your spirits and put a smile on your face nothing will.
I keep finding these very tasty Red Hot Chili Peppers covers of classic pop songs. Bravo. Do they have a album of these? They did a great job on “For Emily….
