sebastian cuello one of the best guitar outros i have ever heard in over 50 years of listening to music He just wrenches the emotion out of his guitar.
I heard this song once, it was summer and my girlfriend and me were on vacation, we heard this song in the radio, watching the sea at 6 in the morning when the sun was rising up and i swear it, that was the happiest moment of my life
Not to insult or anything, but the end is the bridge. "I thought about it and brought it out" is the chorus. The part that says wet sand is the bridge and outro..
Luke Walden No, the 'Thought about it' part is the bridge. The chorus conveys the main message of the song. That's why this song is so great, doesn't follow typical structure.
TheBsk5150 But it does follow typical structure... 'thought about it' repeats after a verse, making it the chorus. The wet sand part is the bridge.. I'm not sure why you think the opposite is true. I'm not saying the song isn't amazing, but it follows V-C-V-C-B-outro pretty well.
It kinda bother me how everyone talks about John but no one gives a shit about Flea, on every RHCP video I go (and that's a lot) everybody is like "wi miss u jon come bak". The day Flea quits I'm done with RHCP. I really like John, don't get me wrong, but Flea is the man.
***** John has left RHCP before and came back. Seeing that he left again, shows that he's done with the band. And I'd rather him be done with the band than stay and not have his heart totally in it.
So epic. What an underlooked album - each song so easy to forsake.. These are not pop pieces. Fru really gave them a humungous send-off with those 28 songs. Each one its own pinnacle. They'd seriously never have to write another album again with all this material and still be known as one of the best bands ever. It makes sense that he'd quit after this; how much further could he go? I think the songs are too mature and powerful to be as accessible as everyone wants pop music to be, but that's what makes them so beautiful and profound.
This is one of my top ten all time favorite guitar solos. Simply because it has emotion. His soul is in his guitar here, and nothing gets me like someone's heart on their music like that. RHCP are amazing.
Alex Lusio I get the feeling after what I've seen and heard the great man is not fully appreciated by kiedis. A great shame because he takes this band to levels few others have reached.
I’m glad to be responding in the future to this comment to say that all is well again and life is great with JF back in the band, 2 banger albums and a world tour which is still going on 🤘🤘
i was listening to this song while i did other things and i was like ``oh, well..well, not bad´´, when this part comes ''You dont form in the weeet saand´´ i was like ``WOW, this is growing´´ and when the master solo guitar came i was like ``OH MY GOD, YEEES!!!!´´, This song is a masterpiece, the guitar is talking by itself, bringing us a thousands feelings..so so touching
After weeks of trying to learn this solo, I just got it!! This solo is not just a solo... John is really putting his soul on it. It´s one of the best solos of JF in my opinion.
Andrija Rasovic never ven thought of this, don't even have to pick one just have both John and Josh... ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES! one more melodic "By the Way" type of album, please :)
I remeber that I used to believe that I knew the pure meaning of this songs 2 years ago more or less. Apart from thinking/knowing that it may have different meanings depending on who you are talking to, I used to think that it was just about the end of a relationship and how you feel about it. A couple that is no longer meeting and so... It changed the day that a friend's father died. Then I realized that, indeed, the song meant for me the end of something. But after that I feel as if it is the end of something you really love and the feelings that it leaves in you. ty for ur time. love
Wish I was born in the 60s/70s. I was probably around 7 when this was filmed & I'm oddly nostalgic. I don't belong in this generation at all. Take me back! 🤘🏼
If you're interested, here's a meaning that really struck me on songmeanings, as quoted: ""My shadow side, so amplified..." His "sunny" vs "shadow" side is a key motif throughout the song, representing the "sunny" side as a normal, happy, aesthetically driven life. His "shadow side" is a darker, more interpretive, and ultimately more ambitious element to his personality. The entire song is set up as a contrast between these two outlooks. "Elementry son, but it's so..." What he's saying is that, the keys to happiness are really easy to grasp, and we learn them early in life. It's "elementary" to overcome his sadness and return to the sunny side of life. However, the second part -- "But it's so..." -- indicates that there is something to this shadowy side of his personality, something that keeps drawing him back, something more important than happiness. "My love affair with everywhere was innocent, why do you care?" Anthony has recognized this early on in his life, and I think the key is that the "shadow side" is what caused him to be so curious about the world. When we live in our shadow life, we are motivated to explore, to struggle, to make changes, to overcome whatever it is that's bothering us. What he's saying here is that, throughout his life, people have told him to be happy, to overcome this sadness of his, but he doesn't want to. He wants to explore, it's part of his being. It's innocent -- why do you care? "My what a good day for a walk outside I like to get to know you little better baby God knows that I really tried" I think this is where most people's interpretation of the song go awry, because they think he's talking about a woman. Not at all. He is addressing life itself (or the world, perhaps). Even through the mountain of struggle he's been through to know life, he still wants to know her a little better. He's not done with his search yet, a motif played out throughout the rest of the song. "I'd like to say we did it for the better of..." This line is an exact counterpart to the earlier lyric of "elementry son, but it's so...". In both of these cases, he's seeking a justification for why he puts himself through all of this, but he doesn't know. He trails off, because he feels like there's some reason, but it is impossible to say what it is. He'd like to say it's for the betterment of something, but he has lost all *real* reasons to continue going down this path. "The disrepair of Norma Jean..." I don't get the Norma Jean reference, unfortunately, maybe somebody can fill in. "I thought about it and I brought it out I'm motivated by the lack of doubt I'm consecrated but I'm not devout" This is the turning point of the song. Anthony has given a lot of thought to this, and he's bringing out his shadowy side again, because he's not done searching. He is also entirely confident in this, nobody is going to change his mind. "Consecrated but not devout" is yet another reinforcement that while he's definitely touched upon truths you might consider sacred, he has not yet understood the true nature of God. As a sidenote, this is the only explicit religious verbage in this song, so I don't think this song is *about* religion, but I do think religion is a particularly poignant way to express the dilemma that Anthony is facing. God is, inherently, unknowable by humans, but part of living a religious / spiritual life is to seek to understand him constantly, despite knowing it is ultimately fruitless. "Right on the verge just one more dose I'm travelling from coast to coast My theory isn't perfect but it's close I'm almost there why should I care My heart is hurting when I share Someone open up Let it show" Again, these verses just reinforce the previous themes of continuing to search for the perfect truth, even though his theory is "close". It still hurts for him to open up to his shadowy side, and it still doesn't make any sense why he should keep doing this to himself. The last line of this verse is particularly sad, and I think hits home with what Anthony thinks is upset about in regards to other people He has gone through all of this pain and struggle, all of this searching, and he lays it out for everybody to see through his work. It's very hard for him to do this. What he's saying is, why can't anybody else open up the way I do? He's practically begging for somebody else to understand, empathize, and have the courage to show the world. Also, this sets up the final verse in an important way. Throughout all of this, Anthony has drawn a line between himself and his goals and what he sees everyone else doing -- pursuing happiness, fame, comfort, and fulfillment. It's easy to live a happy life, and the more that Anthony abandons that, the more he feels (rightfully, in my opinion) angry and confused that he's the only person who gets it. He feels that everyone else is missing an important piece to the puzzle, and he wants to feel that his struggle was worth it, even if it's a tiny, tiny thing. Which brings us to the final verse: "You don't form in the wet sand. You don't form at all. I do." This is a powerful, profound, incredible statement, and it's no coincidence that this is both the title of the song and the apex of the intensity of the song. He's saying that, at the end of the day, the "sunny" way of living life means absolutely nothing. Your life will be remembered by nobody. You don't form in the wet sand. You don't form at all. Anywhere, in any medium. Anthony, however, does. He makes a tiny, tiny dent in the universe. People will remember him long after he is dead, and even though this doesn't ultimately matter, as humanity will die out and our bodies will be washed away into the cosmic ocean, ultimately, his life had meaning, he made something, and he's proud of it and wouldn't have it any other way."
@@Jorlivia I kinda thought Norma Jean was a reference to the band Norma Jean, who has had so many revolving members none who are in the band now are original. Whereas the chili peppers had lost and then regained John frusciante and then “went toe to toe” with the rest of the music industry, maybe this also references their solidarity as a band
John's smile at the beginning just lights a warmth in my heart. Loved playing this song so I'm sure he loved it even more.... Man, oh man, what trickfingers could have accomplished :'(
I can die a happy man knowing that I saw THE Chili Peppers while John was still in the band. The other guitarists were before my time, but this is THE line-up that encompasses what is known as the classic Chili Peppers, in my opinion. They truly were amazing to see live and now that John is gone, it probably will not be close to the same.
@@Ascalipsa I saw them with Josh as well. Twice, I think. In my opinion, just not the same energy. Definitely looking forward to seeing them again now that John is back.
I am not ashamed to say....this made me cry. I sometimes loose a bit of hope with the Chili's but performances like this remind me why I love them so much. So powerful.
The vocals, guitar, bass, drums, melody, harmony, verse, chorus, middle eight, all perfect. But what the fuck are the lyrics about? What I love about RHCP is they make nonsense sound amazing.
This song is about a clash between the free-spirit and his love, who is on a more direct path in their life. The free-spirit is "travelling from coast to coast", reveling in it, but pines over the lack of structure (something CONCRETE, SOLID, like a diamond?) which he associates with the standard "settling down" folks do (career, family, car, home). Whether this is a real person, or the person is a symbol, it works both ways. He keeps approaching the idea, being motivated "by the lack of doubt" involved, but opts instead for another trip (like a RHCP tour from coast to coast). It's so tempting, but by the end of the song he gives up it. The swing from sweet, almost gentle tune to his decision that he doesn't have to settle down comes at the end of the song. He sees that she's/her lifestyle/whatever is fantastic, and he can imagine a beautiful life that way. But, while struggling against it, he "forms" himself in "wetsand", not in the constraint and pressure of sedimentary (~sedentary~) rock. He needs to be able to move, even though it makes him leave the ones he loves.
How can you say the studio version is more emotional... Live shows of rhcp are always WAY more emotional, that's what makes them unique and so awesome!
Playing that solo like John does is the highest goal in guitar playing... If you can make a guitar wail like that in such a way, you know you're doing something good.
i look back to john in the 80's 90's and cant believe that it is the same person, John im glad you have become what you are today you have inspired me and are just execlent
Plus John pours out everything he's got into his playing when he plays live. The entire band does, so I'm with Meadster on this one. Saying the solo live is "weaker" than the album is a pretty bold statement, because he plays a lot of the solos differently for every show they play. I have yet to see him play the same exact solo twice live. I just really like his playing because he puts everything he's got behind his playing, and that to me defines a TRUE musician.
this song is a feeling you get, that fills the bottom of ur lonely pitt... john is the one to give you that feeling... almost as if, things arent ok.. they will be at some point and this is where you realize it, with the song. john.... your the best!!!!! you can fill my lonely pitt anytime!:) peace.

sebastian cuello one of the best guitar outros i have ever heard in over 50 years of listening to music
He just wrenches the emotion out of his guitar.
true
The emotion he gets across in that solo is beautiful makes you feel something no matter how many times you have heard it
This solo brings tears to my eyes
the solo gives me chills every time.
John doesn't just play guitar, he also heals the sick and turns water into wine.
Will Vickery ha.... that Was a good one
a man of many talents he is
God and heaven too.
I am still crying for him leaving the RHCP
so you mean Jesus also quits?
Such an underrated song. Listen how Flea's bass line compliments John's guitar playing. Incredible.
Anthony's flow adds so much to the song. The mood is just killer.
+CJ Christian This is my favorite song of their's, and that is saying something
Don't forget Chad!
Underrated? Pretty much every rhcp fan loves this song
Hayden Roks I didn't know that.
It just isn't fair to other bands when the RHCP have Jesus on guitar.
Not anymore :(
*had
Stop comparing John to jesus.John is far superior!
Rabbi Abromowitz-Fenkelstein good point, it's a shame he's not in the band anymore
The bassist is actually more impressive as someone who can play both guitar and bass to a reasonable level
I heard this song once, it was summer and my girlfriend and me were on vacation, we heard this song in the radio, watching the sea at 6 in the morning when the sun was rising up and i swear it, that was the happiest moment of my life
that's beautiful
That made me tear up
you made me cry, 12 years later.

One of the most powerful songs from 'Stadium Arcadium'.
Impossible not to love it.
Their best.
I love how the chorus doesn't come in until the song is almost over. One of their best songs.
Not to insult or anything, but the end is the bridge. "I thought about it and brought it out" is the chorus. The part that says wet sand is the bridge and outro..

A song can't end in a bridge.
TheBsk5150 What... It ends with a solo/outro but a song can end whenever it wants... There's no "rule" lol. You're clueless.

They're both amazing, I think it's more that John actually left though. I'm sure everyone would be equally as devastated if Flea left.
***** John has left RHCP before and came back. Seeing that he left again, shows that he's done with the band. And I'd rather him be done with the band than stay and not have his heart totally in it.

john made alot of the cool songs you hear today and he freaking helped them come back when hillel died

Stadium Arcadium actually is my favourite album of the Chili's, with Californication and BSSM closing in on 2 and 3
Stadium Arcadium is what got me into this band and John is one of my few guitar idols. His guitar playing speaks me to me
fuzzyone99 well put my friend.
and now Jesus has returned🤘
Well said
When I first heard the solo of the studio version of the song, I cried. It's been 6 years. I still cry.
I have to stop watching this video every hour of my life
Brother I’ve been saying this for the past two years. What are you listening to now?
This is one of my top ten all time favorite guitar solos. Simply because it has emotion. His soul is in his guitar here, and nothing gets me like someone's heart on their music like that. RHCP are amazing.
one of the best songs ever. No one does it like john. gives me goosebumps everytime.
chad totally turned up the energy at 3:09
He often did that at John's Era. Amazing how the band responds every time.
John if you're reading this, I LOVE YOU!
This is definitely one of their most underrated songs.
i still can’t believe john is back i love him he’s so irreplaceable… my god
Frusciante was the fucking architect of this band.. now RHCP is not the same masterpiece as it was with him
Still good, but definitely missing the signature Frusciante guitar and backing vocals. He is surely missed by many, including myself.

Carlos Garcia the chili peppers are known to perform shirtless and early in their career completely naked
maybe it's just the first song xD
this song moves my heart. there's no reason. there's only passion.
After weeks of trying to learn this solo, I just got it!!
This solo is not just a solo... John is really putting his soul on it. It´s one of the best solos of JF in my opinion.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. John's solo is worth a thousand words. It's up there with comfortably numb and hotel California any day.
This song makes me tear up at the end everytime. This is an absolute masterpiece
John's backing vocals were always fucking amazing, this was an unbelievable performance
Fucking amazing indeed👌 I come back to this video for John Frusciante❤️
The solo at the end made me cry! John's face, the beautiful sound of the guitar, flea's face, that was beautiful, I MISS YOU JOHN!
no one realizes how hard that solo is to play at the end. LIVE. after already playing the entire song flawlessly. john fruciante is a beast.
❤

John's solo at the end is absolutely incredible!

JOHN FRUSCIANTE IS BACK
My favourite RHCP song hands down!!!!
I consider myself a RHCP fan, but actually I can only stand to listen to the albums with John... Miss him!
Robin Hagberg I think the same of you, i miss him too :(

I don't understand how someone can dislike this song? RHCHP one of the best rock bands ever.
That ending gives me goosebumps every time without fail.
Every time.
John's solo at the end is so great it brings a tear to my eyes - sounds just like Hendrix - makes the guitar cry. Thanks for posting olavrock.

Are you planning to see them again now that John is back ?
@@Ascalipsa I saw them with Josh as well. Twice, I think. In my opinion, just not the same energy. Definitely looking forward to seeing them again now that John is back.
The last great year before the smart phone.
How do John and Flea manage to make a solo even more epic than the album. Combo of all time.
John heals my soul!
John is unreplaceble, i really cannot listen to new live songs
Nič krajšie som v živote nepočul. Slzy, smiech, plač a radosť v srdci. Papričky ďakujem.
04:12 Fantastic Solo
What a fucking feeling! I love this solo, I love John's style.
I love you John. Everytime I listen to this song i cry, the solo is magic. Come back in RHCP! Please!
How could anyone dislike this amazing performance? My world no longer makes sense...
BEST SOLO EVER! Red hot chili peppers - Wet sand
I am not ashamed to say....this made me cry. I sometimes loose a bit of hope with the Chili's but performances like this remind me why I love them so much. So powerful.
4:46 Flea looking at John, " He is god" said in his mind.
RHCP you rock to the core!! My respect and love for your GREAT music!
Kiedis says they are open to interpretation. So make of it what you will...
Thanks
Your words, my words! hahah

I think this is one of the most beautiful rhcp. It is heart wrenching atm
How can you say the studio version is more emotional... Live shows of rhcp are always WAY more emotional, that's what makes them unique and so awesome!
Such a great live version.....just love this song, so much emotion!
Playing that solo like John does is the highest goal in guitar playing... If you can make a guitar wail like that in such a way, you know you're doing something good.
Yep....awesome song.
Uma das melhores músicas do rhcp!
i look back to john in the 80's 90's and cant believe that it is the same person, John im glad you have become what you are today you have inspired me and are just execlent

I believe this is one of the most underrated songs ever. Love this song! Magical.
Hope that guitar was 18+
It's in its late 40s
+tMattLZ you didn't get it did you?
Νίκος Παγώνας I got it. The joke is dumb and old.
it's a GILF
tMattLZ it may be a 62’ John is all good
Amo demais RHCP FOREVER !!!!!
^ real truth!
my favourite Red Hot Chili Peppers song of all time. And I know a lot of them. I just never get tired of listening to it.

This is my favorite song in the whole wide world. Thank you RHCP.
That massive loogey that Anthony hacks at the start of this primes me for a deep, profound, spiritually moving musical experience.
Evin Paauwe pmsl.
Absolutely beautiful.
Gonna say this again: he's the Layne Staley of the guitar. Can do no wrong, just like Layne couldn't.
