You know when the Chilis cover a "bubblegum" piece with such precision it's because they know who came before them and they value their rock and roll heritage.
Glen Cambell actually played a 6 string bass on the recording for this. The Beach Boys did a lot in the studio but so much of the core band on their albums, guitars, bass, drums etc were session players

Totally spot on! Frusciante’s guitar is so perfectly ‘60s and Kiedis gives a tiny bit of his own styling to the vocals without detracting from the original. After some great vocal harmonies, they finish the song and leave the stage as if it were nothing. RHCP can do brilliant covers like no other band, and this one shows their excellence.
The camera man is some joke, he barely shows John at all. Great falsetto singing by John and great performance in general from all of them. Class song.
John is so damn humble. He nails every part of that performance, sets his guitar down, and gives that little half-arm wave and probably tries to say "thank you" into the mic. No, thank you, John.
Damn! John is just brilliant! His Brian Wilson impersonation is incredible! Flea sings well, also! Their harmonies are awesome! The BB would love this!
What a thoroughly polished performance! They clearly rehearsed the shit out of the harmonies as well as all the little stops and starts. I watch this video a lot!
Would be interesting if you could expand on why. Not "beach Boys songs" in general (there are a heap that I think sound difficult), I mean just this song.
