    The Beach Boys were really a like a human body when you think about it.
    Brian was the brain, Dennis was the heart, Carl was the soul, Al was the spirit, and Mike was the asshole.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade 3 года назад +319

      Mike was the feet, he kept the band moving and without him they would have been content to sit on their ass for the last 35 years. He gets no respect, but Brian knows you need to take good care of your feet, because he's still cashing paychecks from MIke's endless touring. Why some fans feel the need to hate certain members is beyond me. Small minded thinking.

    • @imnotthewalrus880
      @imnotthewalrus880 3 года назад +128

      @@LyonsArcade Brian never needed Mike's money. He was already cashing checks constantly from "Good Vibrations" or the "Pet Sounds" album, as it was REALLY making bank a few years after initial release in the U.S. and almost immediately everywhere else. The Beach Boys didn't need to go on as long as they have been. They ran their course, and Mike was the only one ever publicly opposed to the idea of stopping, or at least as a touring band. Everyone else didn't seem to mind the idea, seeming it'd been a little more than 20 years that they were at it, and Brian was going through hell and back almost always. Maybe mention that the fans don't like Mike Love because he generally just didn't care for Brian's poor condition for so long, or the fact that he makes it clear he's a perverted old man with an ego, and doesn't hide it? Hell, he'll even gloat about being like that, sometimes. The beach Boys' as a touring band is a water logged corpse of a formerly amazing horse, that's being whipped constantly by Mike love, or should I say "The little douche coupe". He is an average singer at best, and that's all he's offered besides dumbing down Brian's work. Brian would make some big mistakes in his music on occasion, but he'd almost immediately go back to cranking out masterpiece by the dozens. (And not to mention, Capitol basically required him legally to make some of his less than favorable tunes.) Mike has only been keeping things rolling, because he knows the money will end for nobody involved but him, once it's finally over. He's not continuing it for the music, fans, or anything. It's for money, and having people to go "I'm better then you!" at, and make creepy jokes about cheerleading outfits, in front of. Mike is still a Beach Boy, nobody can deny that at least.... But that doesn't mean he's not worthless. He is. Enough said.

    The way I remember this is like this. It was one of the first times the world saw Brian Wilson after many years of being reclused. He was fit but didn't look performance ready. It was fantastic to see him, many people thought he would never pull out from the depths of his darkest days during the 70's. Brian here is still was under the control of Eugene Landy, God only knows what drugs were being used to numb his performances. Very sadly Denis Wilson had died a few years earlier. Carl Wilson is the only Wilson holding a fragmented band together here.

      @sternenkind One of the best guitarists? Come on, I can understand that you like the sound, but come on... You're exaggerating. Ringo was never complex. Ringo's playing is extremely simple, but has character. Lennon, again, wasn't the least bit impressive in his playing. None of The Beatles were impressive in their playing. Even Pink Floyd who weren't all that impressive in their playing themselves, compared to other bands, have Gilmour and Wright who are miles better than any member of The Beatles or The Beach Boys in terms of ability. Plus, a drummer's strength being able to hold a backbeat means that the drummer is just bad. Any kid, that's not completely lacking in rhythm, after a few lessons and practice, can hold a backbeat. I get that you maybe like the way they play, but let's just get a little perspective. Nothing they (and the Beatles) ever played themselves is or was impressive on a technical level.

      Of course! “Baby Blue” is a great song, same with “River Song” from Pacific Ocean Blue, far and away the best solo album but out by a Beach Boy and one of the most underrated of the 1970s, it’s a favorite of mine. My favorite Dennis song is probably “(Wouldn’t It Be Nice to) Live Again”, an outtake from the Surf’s Up sessions that was eventually released in the 2010s. Great tune, the extended version on the channel “Big Joe’s Beach Boys” I highly recommend.

      That's what The Beach Boys would do to your (our) emotions. Their music was Happy, Happy in the early years 1961 thru 1965. Then through the Brilliant (I would say Genius) mind of Brian's song writing their musical journey turned, mostly, into a deeper and more soulful introspection of "Our Collective Human Condition." Bittersweet and Joyful all mixed into one. Like yourself @Midnight Blue, I have often found myself with those same tears of emotion streaming down my face as well.
