Sorry. Of course, Brian was the leader of the band. I just think Carl played a crucial role, but was a little overshadowed by Brian. And Carl had to step up after Brian was no longer able. I think perhaps that was when his heart and soul shined through a little more. I don’t think anyone else could have kept the band together and producing good music. Carl also had an amazing voice. I was still in school & remember the original coming out in December 1965 and it was one of those songs that grabs you right away; One of the great songs of the 60s. Can’t believe it came out 57 years ago in 1965 & I’m Now a senior citizen ! The Beach Boys were one of my favorite groups along with everybody in Motown and the British Invasion. This version by The Beach Boys is really excellent but my heart belongs to the original since it was such a big part of my youth plus it has great harmonic interplay between male & female voices. Some great music came out in the 60s. Listen & ENJOY 😊

Two artists from the sixties made everyone feel like they should be living in California. The Beach Boys and The Mamas & Papas. So it's only natural that The Beach Boys would cover this song. I just wonder why it took them so long. That's why I loved the sixties so much, the music made you feel, think, wanna get up and dance, or join a band. When I hear the Beach Boys I wonder why I'm still living on the East Coast (actually I love it here, but I do like visiting California).

Much respect to the Mama's and the Papa's for the original version of this song and to the Beach Boys for showing absolute respect to them in their own way. I actually prefer this version because of how haunting it sounds.
The guitar and sax solo in the middle and the repeating of "California Dreamin' on such a winter's day" at the song's coda is what seals the deal for me.
Leave it to the Beach Boys to create such a beautiful rendition that it's still used in media like Stranger Things. Thus making it even more relevant as more people discover this long-standing band.
So thanks for uploading this, the Beach Boys truly took this song and made it their own. Also, Requiescat in Pace Carl, you were taken from us far too soon.
