    Fun music fact:
    For the people who keep asking how a band could possibly know the back-up instrumentals to a song no one has ever heard before, Marty says to them right before he starts "its a blues riff in B and watch me for the changes". The "blues riff" is a common progression of chords used in blues and jazz songs throughout that particular era that any band would know especially in the 50's, and to basically follow his lead. Johnny B Goode is actually a pretty simple song to play along to if you know the key and the blues riff.

      Exactly. Everyone of the band members knows how to solo in I-IV-V blues progression. It's the backbone of blues progressions and had been used for decades. It's not rocket science to them

      I like to think of it as character development. In the beginning Marty is afraid of rejection and that he'll never have a chance to play his music. Over the course of the film, he has to help George with his own fear of it. By helping George, he, in turn, is learning to deal with his own. Getting on stage gives him this opportunity, and by playing this song, Marty finally opens up and is able to express himself without worrying what people will think of him.

    0:18 Marvin: "The dance is over. Unless you know someone else that can play the guitar." Cut to the scene of Marty playing the guitar. The transition is so smooth, it doesn't waste any time and it just flows because we already know that Marty plays the guitar because it was set up at the beginning of the film. @@JettBlackheart @JettBlackheart83 We're not really told, are we? I think it's left open. Probably all that Marty has done to encourage George has finally kicked in, and he makes the decision to change himself just in time (which as we see, carries on into Marty's new present.) The dreamer in me likes to imagine that somehow, George sensed the need to change himself and prove to Lorraine that he wanted her, because Marty's life was on the line, but there's no way to prove that.
      I think we don't get to see the moment of George's change because we're focused on Marty's experience, and for him, one second he's dying, and the next he's just fine. He doesn't get to see George's inspiration either. Great question, that hadn't occurred to me before!

    • @MyNameisMessenger
      @MyNameisMessenger 2 года назад +1

      @@JettBlackheart I love that interpretation! I hadn't thought about the song, but it's just like Marty said, there's gotta be a song so they can fall in love. ;D

    • @christinabronnestam8274
      @christinabronnestam8274 2 года назад +1

      @@JettBlackheart The scene illustrates a very important dramatic concept: the final affirmation that establishes that George really, really changed in a very profound way, that he literally takes his destiny in his own hands. Have you noticed that Marty's look at this - now - fully restored hand after the kiss, is exactly what George did just after having punched Biff? They both underwent the same transformation, but George needed to reaffirm it by showing everyone that he is in full command, and Marty needed to show off with the guitar - he who had complained to Jennifer that "I will never get the chance to play in front of an audience!" and "what if they say I'm no good". Then he totally goes with the flow, even over the top, but it really does not matter, he is so full of his new confidence that he can just grin when everybody gets shocked. Both George and Marty started to believe in themselves.
      So when George first hesitated about kissing Lorraine, and then let the redhead push him away, his first reaction is the usual one - he is the loser. Was his beating of Biff just a one single lucky strike, then? Is he still the same whimp? No, after a few seconds his new self won: George's change is permanent, he will never go back to his old self again. It started when he decided to defeat Biff and help Lorraine, even though he was clearly very scared - it was the first time ever he made a decision of his own and not just followed instructions, including from Marty. But the transformation is fulfilled exactly in 1:37. God, I love the musical illustration there, with the doomsday trumpets in 1:40 (also echoing the main musical theme of the movie) followed by the song changing from melancholy to full triumph. Listen to the soundtrack with your eyes closed and notice how the music resolves from cacaphony to full harmony - such a fantastic illustration of the rebirth of both Marty and George!
      I also think it is an important aspect that George first acts against Biff when Lorraine begs for his help, and then he is still hesistant when she ASKS him to kiss her. If he had kissed her then, it would still have been like he was doing what someone else, including Marty and Lorraine, told him to do. So we needed this final turning point, by the way literally shown by George turning around and sending the jerk down to the floor (that one will never kick George in the b*tt again, be sure), then just focusing totally on Lorraine and laying his hands gently around her head. Claiming her, but still respectfully awaiting her full consent. This scene just couldn't get better. After 1000 views of it, I still find new clever details in it ...

My parents ditched the TV antenna for this new thing available to us, 36 cable channels of pure bliss plus a VCR! Let me tell you something, for a kid in the early 80's that kind of rapid explosive change available to me was mind blowing and I embraced it loving every minute of it knowing that I was living in a great times that past generations could not have experienced. When we got our drivers licenses we went strait to the theaters to see, The Fly, Aliens, Top Gun , etc. as you say just masterpieces for us.

      I know. I mean, Back to the Future is the perfect movie series, as someone said in the comments. I suppose Rocky and Bloodsport are tied for being perfect movies also. And you have Flight of the Navigator, and Terminator 1 and 2. These movies didn't have the best computer graphics, but they were masterpiece movies that had a type of timeless creativity that has never been matched in the new movies. New movies have the amazing computer graphics, but the gritty realism of the 1980's really hits you in a different way. It feels like Hollywood has tried to avoid giving people realistic alien and time travel movies now days, and instead they give people morbid sci-fi movies that are based around fear and death. The 1980's Sci-FI movies gave people inspiration and the movies were not horror films.

      To be fair, it's only obvious to us that he's dying because of the context we have and the dramatic music. Without that it'd just look like he was getting a really bad stomach ache.

      @@SMPandanic No one noticed. It's as simple as that. Plus, once again, we only know his hand looking invisible means he's dying/fading from existence because we know the context. Even if anyone _did_ notice, they'd just pass it off as their eyes playing tricks on them.

    It's a good thing Marty totally lost himself and got carried away. Based on the reaction of the band and the crowd, if he kept it together, he would have been asked to stay around and probably would have missed the lightning bolt.

      Is it just me or does everyone feel it would have been perfectly natural if the school principal told Marty if he screwed up, just this much, he'd have him flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong? For some reason, the principal also looked out of place without a half smoked cigar. Can't quite put my finger on why though. I had the same feeling watching the Mission Impossible franchise expecting it cut to cut to a scene where every male character played sand volleyball in jeans. Something would have just felt right.

      I like to think that deep down George knew there was something otherworldly about Marty think about from his point of view Marty shows up out of nowhere wearing an absurd outfit and knows exactly who George is his name where he lives and and saved him from being hit by a car and the only thing Marty is solely determined to get him and Laurien together and once that is done he mentions a bizarre event that would happen to there 8 year old son and then Marty disappears with no trace. I wonder what crossed his mind when the actual Johnny B. Goode song came out or when Star Wars was released or when his son did set fire to the living room rug or grew up to look exactly like Marty and share his name.
