What? His vocals are on point here, only some minor slip ups. Are you talking about the harmonies? If so, John wasn't having a good day vocally. I know, he's supposed to be the better vocalist but he can have bad days too.
He doesn't do it all that often, but when he does, he obviously loses amplitude. Don't know if the sound guy ever spoke to him about his mic technique and the do's and don'ts, but cupping the mic is not a means of pitch correction (but obviously does make you quieter), it just turns your Cardioid mic into a crappy omni-directional, cancelling out both the front and back. Just sounds crap. John has his hands no where near the mic and sounds great signal wise. Vocally, I think people are really hard on him. He's not a natural singer, but he does a great job of imitating one.
