Scotty, who is your video editor? 😂
I would like to know the truth about castrol gtx in gm vehicles
Any opinion on the differences between Mobil 1 full synthetic and Amsoil full synthetic and which is "better"? I have a 2015 Kia Soul with a 1.6 liter engine. Thanks.
hey scotty i have a 1992 celica gt in a bad condition transmission is failing my wheels start to shake after 70mph my top is slashed open my windshield cracked and the plastic from the back has been eaten up by the cold and sun my muffler is really bad and the engine has some problems too can you help me find those parts at a budget price and those that i need to buy at a higher price i understand but the body of the celica is in well condition no rust and minor scratches and bumps which i can easily do myself
@Jake Colbert thats the thing i didnt pay nothing for it i just want to fix a car as my first car
Many years ago I had a fleet account that used royal purple in all their trucks. We had to replace the engines every 25 to 30,000 miles because they refused to change the oil sooner than 20,000 miles. After the 3rd one Ford denied them warranty coverage. When converting the hour meter to miles they were effectively putting around 45,000 miles on the engines because they idled them almost 24 hours a day.
Royal purple is great oil but you still have to change it regularly and within realistic limits.
I started using Royal Purple after the pump company I work for started repping their industrial products and saw how much cleaner bearings/gears were in machines where it was used.
You know, I noticed another comment that mentioned a guy running RP in his Infinity G35 for 15 years.. he red-lined it every week and has no issues with it, also mentioning it is the best cleaning oil he could find.. very cool, I can't wait to run it in my high mile Jag
@@jaynikk758 how is it doing?
if my transmission was to start making a noise I'd see if my wife was in the car and drop her off. if the noise disappears keep driving

I run royal purple in my zx12 and run 190mph regularly and only change it once every 2 riding seasons.its good oil.
Have a 2010 Camaro LT1 been using royal purple for 9 years. Never had a bad issue, changed the oil every 5 to 6 months. Also been using the Mobil oil filter, all I can say good job royal purple 👏🏼😀
about 20 years ago when I have a Geo Tracker, instead of doing oil changes I sent oil samples to a lab. They analyzed the oil and provided a detailed report. I changed the filter every 3k miles and topped-off the oil. After 10k miles, the reports were still indicating the oil was in great shape.
Plus people complain that it’s expensive. No it’s not. You change your oil every 3,000 miles on regular oil so ppl normally change their oil roughly 4 times a year depending on how much they drive. With royal purple, I change my oil twice a year. I’t just a no brainer IMO. You save money and knowing your engine is staying as clean as it can

Just an overall synopsis: Royal Purple makes great RACING oil, just like Motul and Red Line, where wear on components is measured to such a fine degree that the oil molecules themselves have to be larger to better protect the engine internals. If you're really THAT concerned with the wear on your engine (looking at you BITOG warriors), then CHANGE YOUR OIL MORE OFTEN. You're not racing, you're sitting in traffic.
Might be a dumb question but can i use it in a Toyota corolla ?98
Actually i am racing
@@tinyboii4286hey I know this is a 10 month old comment but I would highly recommend using royal purple HMX 10w30 if you live in a warmer area especially with the age of the engine
@@tuscanikristian3274 okay well now i judt upgraded to 2007 Toyota camry will it still be good?
Just use full synthetic and change it regularly.
That’s more important than what brand you put in.
Changing regularly certainly is critical but there's plenty of lab data on the 'net that shows that amsoil and lucas perform similarly to each other and royal purple is nearly as good, and all three of them are significantly better than the rest although valvoline and pennzoil tend to better than the other brands commonly found in stores. Is the difference enough to reflect in the lifespan of an engine? I couldn't say. What I can say is that I see lower running temps with royal purple than I have with mobile1 and although I haven't done any rigorous measurement of it, it does seem like I hear less noise on cold running and get better mpg than I did with mobile1.
@@ExaltedDuck my personal fave is shell rotella t6
Amsoil once yearly or every 20k miles and change K&N filter every 10k miles.
My 77 caddy manual says change oil every 7500 miles that was how many year ago dino oil at that
@Swampy back that up with the data so that we can see it please
Back in the mid 90s we started using Royal Purple in our work trucks and had great success with it,it’s costly but it’s a great oil.

Oil tech has come a long way since then. A lot of the synthetics now are either as good or better than RP.
I use oil from dollar tree in my Ferrari and it is quite inexpensive but my engine recently failed and the cost of a replacement was very expensive so I replaced it with a used engine from a wrecked Toyota Corolla and I am getting much improved mpg and using nothing but royal purple from now on.

I have only one question for you... Why? 😬
This is tooo much 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I've been running Royal Purple the past few oil changes on my 2015 camry and for a few extra bucks...imho it's so worth it! The owner's manual calls for once a year or 10k mile intervals but i do it religiously every 5-6k miles
The 3.4 hot start problem is more likely the fp regulator. Pull the vac hose from the regulator and see if there is fuel leaking into the intake. Scotty is right about the flooding.

There’s a reason race cars dont use amazon oil, or any other store brand stuff. It will work just as good for road use but if you run your car hard(track days, high RPMs), I’d still use RP or other name brand. A Corolla can be driven fast just like a Ferrari, doesn’t mean it’s better or just as good.
I used royal purple synthetic for several years in my Lexus vehicles and the engines quieter. I used Castro synthetic for several years and switched to royal purple synthetic. Royal purple synthetic is great oil.
Agreed
when I use Royal Purple my engine sounds quieter and smoother ..
@Bert Clayton
Good mobil1
Amsoil is better.
@@muddyriverdogz is a good oil it’s my second to royal purple.
Not....@@muddyriverdogz
I honestly think that oil’s like Royal Purple, Motul and Liqui Moly are very much worth the extra cost. I understand what you say about Amazon Oil, Mobil 1, etc., but think of oil like the blood in your body. It cleans, it cools the engine and it lubricates. The most important things for your engines longevity. I think that better oil will make a difference and is worth the few bucks you pay. I love your frugality, but i think the extra expense is worth it here.
We use AmsOil at work in all our equipment it's Awesome! Quieted down a diesel motor and made it run smoother
That stuff is even more expensive than purple lol. Just bought 5 quarts of the purple for 50+tax
@@manz7860 Its not much more than royal purple but much better !
I can’t lie, I’ve never heard you talk this calmly before. This is the first video I’ve seen this 😂 thanks for the insight on Royal Purple man!
To recap, Royal Purple is API SN Plus Certified and has great additives for more harsh, high horsepower tolerances. I also race with STP which has all the same certifications and also has great additives, and it is half the cost! You don't need it for a daily driver.
When Scotty said "ha" and the goat popped up and did the same. I was done 😂

FRAM filter with Royal Purple...there’s something wrong with that picture.
Higher end fram filters have decent construction though? Only their low end orange canister stuff is horrible.
f5tornadeau
Exactly , I drive euro foreign stuff so I go oem.
I know better than to save 3$ there. Or if it’s not oem,it’s an oem supplier like mann or Bosch.
FRAM Ultra Synthetic filter is the best filter I've ever used. I won't use anything else.
As a Wix XP/Purolator Boss type of guy, I was genuinely impressed with Fram's Ultra synthetic media. Great filtration, but the overall construction of the rest of the filter didn't amaze me. That was until I recently acquired Fram's Racing line of filters, which are a HUGE leap up from the standard cheapo filters they make. Definitely worth looking into. Can't wait to put it on with my next oil change.
The only bad Frams are the Extra Guard orange cans. They’re only made for 3k intervals and conventional oil. The Tough Guard and Ultra Synthetic filters are way better.
I replaced a knock sensor in my 2008 Chevy pickup, and the internals were a little blackish brown from the regular oil. However, I replaced the knock sensor on another pickup that I owned, and I only used Royal Purple oil, and the internals were clean and polished like. That engine was CLEAN!
That thumbnail of Royal Purple being poured into a Fram made me wanna puke.
Lol cardboard filter
I saw that too i think it was a joke 😂
Yeah let's use one of the most expensive oils and one of the worst filters
Very glad people know that Fram are the worst filter on the market!
I'd recommend Royal Purple oil for Transmissions though, especially in performance cars. I had a Nissan SR13 Silvia, and the transmission never shifted better than when I put Royal Purple transmission oil into it.
I just love it when I have my oil (synthetic) changed and they stick a reminder 💵 sticker of 3750 miles on my windshield. Even though the car manual says 7500 miles. I immediately take it off and set 7500 in the cars info panel. 👍
LOL same except my jeep has a computer that beeps, so I go two beeps per change 👍
@@Taydrum Thats an awful idea.. all those "beeps" are logged in the ecu as you failing to change your oil. If you ever have an engine issue Chrysler will deny you based on that, so I wouldn't run around sharing that with people who are still in warranty.
Royal Purple Does make it difference. Recently did put RP synthetic on Hyundai ES. Engine Sounds so quite and performance increases. It's feel like a new car. If you can afford I would recommend it. If you can't stick to Castrol, Penzoil etc
I have always ran Royal Purple because I have money to piss away. That being said I just used a cheap Quaker State syn blend for the first time ever because they were our of stock on a lot of oil, and my truck is getting up there in miles. I definitely have more engine noise/valve clatter and a valve cover has started leaking. I don't know if the leak is related to the cheaper oil but the timing is suspicious. Going to switch back next change
No qs is actually good oil yes its cheap in price but not in quality and there's plenty of proof out there to support that statement
Change RP every 7,500 miles in my Fiesta ST. Being from Houston I'm fine with paying a little more to support a local company.
Lab tests show Royal Purple performs almost as well as Lucas and Amsoil. The main thing to be aware of is it should be used where the temperature goes below freezing unless you have a block heater. It has flow issues at very low temps but the high zinc and sulfur content can significantly reduce friction enough to be slightly lower operating temps and slightly higher MPG. It lasts the same length of time as any other synthetic oil, which can vary significantly depending on usage (4000-8000 miles for most street applications). Bottom line, it costs more than the commodity oils but 30-50% less than the other premium brands, putting it in a pretty smart place marketing-wise.
I started on Lucas synthetic until they discontinued and then went to royal purple. I don’t care what anybody says, but royal purple is the best oil. I had a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 and never once had engine problems. lol chanted my oil too every 6000 miles. I use everything royal purple since 2010 more or less and that’s all I’ll ever use
This guy is so hilarious , those caption pics crack me the hell up
When I was in high school a friends dad bought a 1964?? Buick Rivera, he swore by Royal Purple oil and changed it every 3,000 miles. The car was a daily driver and always garaged. The man was a good mechanic, at the slightest hint of a problem, a slight ticking noise, he fixed it. For three years my friend and I were paid to wash and wax the car twice a year with Blue Coral. All the fluids were changed on a regular basis. He was still driving that car 40 years later. He never let Ron or I drive the car, but we sure enjoyed waxing it.
I already knew the truth about Royal Purple before this video; in extreme tests done using Royal Purple side by side with just about every other synthetic oil out there pretty much everything else out there failed miserably resulting in massive metal scrapes even Mobile one and Castrol syntec, while with Royal Purple there was virtually zero damage at the end of the test
Penzoil ultra platinum! We have a winner.
That isn't even a true synthetic.. I mean, I guess if you are digging through your couch cushions for change to buy motor oil with then maybe? Or perhaps you don't plan on having you car more than another couple years and can sleep at night knowing you're absolutely destroying the engine by pouring that garbage into it? Yeah, then Pennzoil is totally the way to go.
Love it how he says "n then pray" after chaging trans fluid and filter after it not being chaged for a looooonnnggggg time n then you chage it.
If the oil is API certified it's fine. I take good care of my cars, but I use whatever synthetic oil is on sale, and it all works as advertised. I go at least 10,000 miles and I never have any issues, engine still runs good, over 150K miles now.
I’ve only ran Mobil 1 just switched to royal purple in my bmw actually runs smoother and heat is disapated better with the royal purple my n54 is happy
Royal Purple is absolutely ridiculous to use for everyday cars. If race car owners want to use it then fine. All you need is a decent quality oil and change it regularly with a new filter each time. Your engine will last for a long time. It gets bad when you DON'T change your oil regularly. Your engine doesn't care what brand of oil you use in it. Just change it regularly.
Not really “ridiculous” Royal Purple is in the top tier of oils, you get what you pay for. Now ive used everything from Mobile One, Penzoil Platinum/ Ultra and Amsoil. Never had a problem with any of them. So yes any modern oil is decent and overkill. However, only the ones I mentioned can go 15-20k miles. I have found that Royal Purple provides easily the best performance power and mpg wise and when you can go 15k miles the price doesn’t matter that much. Amsoil is more expensive than Royal Purple and is hard to find - thats a ridiculous oil. Penzoil Platinum or Ultra is the best all around.
Scotty!-My "Computer-Regulated" ENGINE COOLER FAN STOPPED COMING ON-TWICE!...Like you said, install a TOGGLE SWITCH!...I DID!🌞 NOW I CONTROL WHEN ENGINE FAN COMES ON! Good Advice!!!🚗💨💨💨💨
Royal Purple been using it since 1980 Trucks n Bikes went 200.000 on 90 model GM no engine leaks n run like a top. Should have put it in transmission lol
Tbh the price of royal purple is so small compared to what it’d cost a shop to do an oil change with Rotella or Valvoline. I don’t mind splurging on a good oil
Scotty, I've been watching your videos for about 2 years and they are incredible. Keep it up!
I talk to Valvoline Reps and they all said they can't tell you when you should change your motor oil in your car but Valvoline will stand by their product according to what your car manual recommendation says when to change your motor oil.
Scotty lithium is a mood stabilizer not a antipsychotic. Love your vids!
Lithium catches on fire when it's put in contact with water. You definitely don't want that stuff in your body. Still better than lobotomies I guess...
Lithium is fir Bi-Polar or manic Depressives
I don’t know what lithium is but I do know what psychotic is. If those batteries make people less crazy I say use them
I purchase and use Royal Purple in my vehicles. I had a 2002 PT cruiser that I ran to 280,000 miles with Royal Purple. Original motor (no rebuild), original transmission, original clutch. When I sold it to some friends who are still happily driving it they replaced the clutch. I swear by Royal Purple products. I purchase a 5 gallon jug to do oil changes in my vehicles because it reduces the costs considerably. I also use royal purple oil filters as one of the best oil filters on the market currently. I use Royal Purple in my 96 Dodge Ram 2500, Honda Accord Crosstour, and Subaru Forester and very happy.
Royal Purple oil and filters rank at the top in quality along with Amsoil products.

t/off the key & monitor the gauge & watch for leak down!
if it leaks down after a few minutes you could have bad injectors or bad fuel regulator!!!!!
What you think about amsoil... I have been using that oil for over 20 years... And I change my oil every 20,000 miles... And it works... Never had one problem in any of my cars far as engine.. Amsoil is the best oil I have ever use...
I use amsoil in my racing motors, and have been happy. I never wait 20k miles to change oil on anything. The filter can only clean so much. How many vehicles do you have that made it over 300k miles?
I heard Amsoil is the best.
@@mtjeeves1234 i do mine every 3000 miles.
Amsoil make a filter that last for 25,000 miles... Never had one problem... I must mention or one year.... Sometimes I don't get to 20,000 miles... Before one year.

Scotty's illustrations are just the ones!! 😂😂😂😂🤣 Love it
I've seen a lot of cars not start until it's cranked a bit because the check valve that keeps pressure on the fuel rail has failed, so every time you turn the car on the rail has to rebuild that pressure. Sometimes people say it's when the car is "cold" because it'll hold pressure for an hour or two so a trip to the store is a normal startup.
I always love the editing and images you use!
Multi-subject comment;
As a former Fiero owner, I too suggest the Fiero Store and also the Fiero forum if it's even still up. The fan relay was notorious for failure and mine did so. I just made sure to avoid rush hour traffic so the car would stay in motion, cooling was steady at 45 mph-up. I never got a chance to get a new relay though because my fan belt broke once in traffic and my engine overheated before I could get the car parked and off. Head gasket blew not too long after and I sold it. The car was as Scotty said "very interesting" but unfortunately was an 80s GM product and yes, it was junk.
I still question my sanity at the time I decided to obtain that car....
I was just made aware of our state laws concerning marijuana and discovered not only is it legal for medical use but CBD (which I didn't know existed or was a thing) is (I'm told) good for anxiety and sleep disorders and is free to use recreationally. It can be found at vape shops, but needs a special gasket (which if they sell CBD they should have that as well).

as a local store owner I agree. The only other places I can go now are wal mart, auto zone, or some other huge conglomerate. I don't know if I want them having my money either! If I had any local option I'd consider it. Until then I'm buying my dex os from amazon for half the price of wal mart, and 1/3 the price of the gm dealership.

Cool spend more money for your beliefs
Heres the deal with local stores. They are way overpriced. I walked into an Oreillys the other day, they sold a pair of wiper blades for $19 per blade. The EXACT same blade at Walmart - in store - $9. I don't know about you - but why the hell am I gonna pay twice the amount required for the same product?
IF you actually go the full oci recommended by Royal purple or any other full synthetic oil, the cost of that oil becomes roughly the same as if you were running conventional oil and changing every 5-6k miles. Most oil analyses done show that you are completely fine running the extend oci. The few extra pennies you have to fork over for this oil may or may not offer better protection and possibly a small mpg increase. I'll pay the higher price because my vehicle is paid of and a few extra cents is far less than $35k for a new vehicle....
U can get Supertech synethic for 15.97. Both the Amazon basics and Supertech synethic are made by Warren Distribution without the shipping cost

Merci pour vos vidéos ! Hello from FRANCE ! @@scottykilmer
All these little screened sensors send codes when even certain hi quality synthetic oils don't flow as freely as Royal Purple. Had OBD2 codes for camshaft sensor, someone recommended Royal Purple. Code cleared.
What about Amsoil signature series guys?
Redline is better, in my opinion.
@@theelaffingman8776 Def isn't, Amsoil is top dog.. My engine is proof, open that valve cover and you wouldn't believe the sight with almost 200,000 miles on it. I'm talking clean! You can even run it longer than red line. Red line is great but better than Amsoil? I guess that's debatable but at the end is a matter of opinion. They're both still very wonderful oils
@@theelaffingman8776 Sorry but Amsoil is the best there is in every test they have ran.
I use RP in my small gasoline engines; lawnmower, generator, pressure washer, etc. Can't see the new oil on the dipstick it's so clear!! For the vehicles I buy the cheapest synthetic on sale!!

The second question was more interesting. Thanks Scotty! I drive about 6k miles per year.
4:41 🤣 gotta love those visuals
Also for the cheaper brands not sure how they would do. Castrol and mobil 1, are proven oils. That's why we have you tube now a days. Your engine's will last longer. I would still do normal recomended oil changes. Which i do. And also using a good oil filter will help also like a k+n. And using filter magnets on your oil filter
will help too.
I always question how someone can make an evaluation of motor oil unless someone used it exclusively for at least 100K and then did a tear down to measure tolerances. Other than that, don't tell me such and such oil is bad, good or great.
You can determine that by sending in a sample of used motor oil for laboratory analysis which will provide you with all of the data you need to make that determination.
I kind of want the purple oil to match my purple antifreeze, just something about the color, even though we don't see it while it's in the car.
I never knew that Amazon had an oil that they are selling.
They just like everyone just put their tag on it
Bezos also owns his own oil refineries
@Dennis Adkins it's $18.97 for FIVE quarts.
It's the same oil as Walmart supertech
Snake oil
Good advice, like you say just stick with synthetic oils and change more often..
"There's absolutely nothing wrong with that." Shows Snoop Dogg toking on a blunt lol
I actually ended up having to replace the head gaskets on my 3.4L in my pontiac. Had a small scare not long ago where the temperature got so cold (windchill was -25) the thermostat froze shut. Temperature got to 230 at the max and hovered until I found a safe area to pull over. Had the heater on max heat, max flow. Tried driving about 30 minutes later and it kept 188-194 the rest of my drive home and hasn't gone over 200 since.
Yes, I've been watching the coolant level, the oil level, the oil cap, and checking the reservoir for oil in the coolant after every drive.
🤔starting to think Scotty is being paid by amazon oil co. 🤣😂
royal purple is good oil for your average person because the purple color is very easy to read on the dip stick. #1 issue with the diy oil change is adding the incorrect amount of oil an it will cause engine problems
