been running Royal Purple in all my rigs for years. Love the stuff. I saw an independent engine dyno on a Corvette high performance engine and it pulled another 10 hp over Mobile one!
I am stuck on RP. DON'T WANT ANYTHING ELSE IN MY MOTORS.

The reason why i started using RP because i work in the Oil Industry and all the refineries i worked at they use is RP and we all know refineries they run 24/7 so i was convinced that this product is good and i dont run my truck 24/7 so i can imagine it treating my engine perfect💯

in reference to the replies that are in this post, please note that the oils in this demonstration are not motor oils. They are industrial gear, bearing, and pump lubricants that are not formulated to deal with acidic combustion byproducts. The Royal Purple Synfilm iso 68 is marketed as a air compressor and industrial oil.

This tester is nothing more than a Timken load tester with slightly relocated components and purple finish.
RP is obviously a great oil, but this is not the best test to prove it. Motor oils work best when they are at around 100 degrees C. Here, the test is done at room temperature. This introduces a major thermal variable that puts the whole test in question.
There is a reason why you never rev up and put heavy loads on cold engines. In this test, you are pretty much revving up and overloading a cold engine (with cold oil), so to speak. These test results are pretty much anecdotal. This test temperature is not what you see inside an engine. Repeat the test with oils at 100 degrees C and let's see what happens then. That would be very interesting!

The one armed bandit is not the best way to test oil...gives you an idea of how it might perform...I know of a combination of products that blow RP out of the water in this test..RP must have some sort of ester in order to live up to its claims.

Well his little device won't work with 200° oil because he would get burnt
Also he used gear oil, which isn't heated up as much as in the engine.
So yes a differential will be cold only until the car starts to move so this test is 100% relevant.

RP motor oil doesn't flow well when cold. About 80% of engine wear is on cold starts. If you live where it never gets below 70 it probably wouldn't matter, but thats not the case where I live and the temp can drop below 0 at times.

Why in the hell do you have to place waights on that friction test. Why can't it be timed to turn on and off with a digital timer? With set waights that don't change? Then it would be a fair comparison. I tried royal purple and it made my 370z engine run ruff I didn't care for it. Then went to AmsOil and was incredibly smooth. I also dipped some metal I had laying around in royal purple and dipped the other oils I had laying around . And the next day the one oil that didn't have any oil film on it was royal purple. Dont buy this stuff . All hype

The weights are to stimulate different tolerances and wear in engines with different mileages. Oil should be able to keep an even film through as many different engine tolerances and wear. That's why he added weights. Newer engines have smaller tolerances and clearances, older engines have larger clearances because of wear.

    • @greenlungo3996

If you search "one armed bandit oil test" you will find several debunks of this testing method. You are right that it is not a fair test. The demonstrator did the classic move where he applied full force on the "poor" oil pretty much immediately, while the "good" oil gets to work in and warm up with just one weight for much longer while he talks about how good it is.
