This series was a lot of fun and the difference in quality between the brands is amazing! Congratulations to Amsoil and Pennzoil for their amazing oils that were extremely competitive in this showdown series! I watched this 3 times now and it's so impressive! You put a lot of work & effort into making this video, even the graphics.I salute you sir.Respect from the UK.
Hello, Would you be able to do a comparison of Mobil Delvac 1 EPS 5w40, Shell Rotella T6 5w40, Mobil 1 Turbo Truck 5w40 and Amazon Basics 5w40? Thank you!
Wow, we are honored to receive this award! Thank you to Project Farm for putting our Signature Series Oil to the test and to the viewers for tuning in! We have enjoyed following along, and we can't wait to proudly display this awesome Trophy when it arrives!
Its #Science 💪 Amsoil has a new customer! To awesome of you all to be so cool! I got oil changes coming up this weekend, and I gotta hunt me down some Amsoil!
For one event, he could set up several nylon or steel gears and have the oil "climb" while they were rotated slowly/quickly in two heats then see how much oil actually collects between the teeth and how high up the oil gets.
When watching Project Farm videos, we see the true value of You Tube and frankly the internet. The net and main stream media are so full of garbage and lies, it's refreshing to see a channel like this. Much respect and thanks for your hard work for us.
danny zamudio I’m probably not the answer you’re looking for, but on a separate comment thread, he said it’d be a good video idea. So, I’d look out for that in the future. My answer to you would be don’t buy too cheap, and ask a reputable mechanic. Most filters are sufficient nowadays, so it’s just choosing the right one. I usually go with Mobil 1 filters. I hope this helps!
@@ProjectFarm very well done series man... Koodos to a job well done. Is there any chance that you could do a similar series on transmission fluid... in particular the tranny fluids that supposedly meet the spec of zf lifegaurd 8...
Project Farm deserves a medal for "Outstanding Achievement" in what is considered the most objective standard in reporting accurate quantifiable results. Nice job! It also tells me that when you cannot afford Amsoil prices, Valvoline and Penzoil are the two to go for. I've been using Mobil 1 only because they're they only ones that make 0w-16 which is required for my car.
THANK YOU , for the greatest test mankind has ever produced! Seriously tho , from all the car guys , we really appreciate the time and effort put into the showdown! We have been following it since day one!
This was the BEST oil comparison series I have seen on youtube! I applaud the hard work, effort, and detail. It was really entertaining to watch...Thank You Project Farm!
I hope Todd does another series on Biodegradeable Motor Oils. They exist; Renewable Lubricants Inc. (RLI; Vegetable Oil Based) and Green Earth Technologies' G Oil (Beef Tallow Based) are two. I also heard of Go Green Smokeless Oil (they have a terrible website, it doesn't say what viscosities they offer anymore now that they moved to Australia) and NanoSave N1 was claiming they had one in 2015 but I'm not sure if they still have it? I tried RLI's 5w40 Low Ash Diesel Oil which worked nicely in my 6.5 TD. Its viscosity was between Shell T6 0w40 and Shell T6 5w40.
@@101Volts Yes that would be interesting to see...I have heard of an oil called Biosyn which is said to be really good. I heard it is as good as any synthetic on the market.
I had used Mobil 1 Full Syn pretty much for 40 years but starting to use Pennzoil Ultra Full Syn as of late. All of these oils are SO much better than 40 years ago you honestly are going to be ok in most regular use with any of them as long as you change at regular intervals. Those of us with sportscars and classics will always swear our loyalty but they are all so good now...great review as usual.
You should check out ams oil Z-Rod classic car line of oil you will thank me later if you love your classic car you should give that oil a try. Guarantee you won't go back to nothing else.
Theres like in-depth three studies online(Look up Russ Knize Engine Oil Filter Study) but the problem is that they are now all outdated and the tests aren't necesarily easy to interpret for the average consumer. But there is a lot of good info on the materials used and also it reveals that there are really only like 4 manufacturers so a lot of the different brands are identical to each other. Really interesting. BTW between that study and another one I read, Royal Purple makes the best filter around and Wix filters are the best budget filters. That being said, I really hope Project Farm does and oil filter shootout cause I would love to see what kind of tests he comes up with!!!
This has to rank as one of the most comprehensive, time consuming and complex test series you have ever accomplished. Many kudos from gear heads and mere daily drivers for your presentation.
I work at a KTM dealership and today at work our amsoil rep came by the shop, and he was telling me about a guy on RUclips that did independent testing of different of motor oils and come to find out we both watch your videos man, much love from both of us in Colorado!!!
Someone in the comments mentioned repeating these tests after a few years. This is a great idea for all products. It lets us know what companies are listening. It also means we as viewers might have to chip in, but for quality and trustworthy information it would be worth it to those of us who rely on these products.
@@ProjectFarm That and AMSoil's recent 5w30 signature series is said to have decreased dramatically in performance - refer RAT540's testing scheme if you're not already aware. would be VERY interesting if a decline in quallity for financial gain is proven to be true from AMSoil.
@HoagesMoto yes! I want to know if companies are using this to do better or be sneaky and lower quality after receiving good reviews! Keep them on their toes
Thank you for all your effort and time. I was pulling for Pennzoil. I didn't mention that I run Castrol Gold Bottle. Why? Friend of mine that has BMW. Gold bottle Castrol is BMW once a year oil change.
Same and I'll continue using Pennzoil as I find it the best and always buy it when in goes on sale 50% off at Canadian Tire. PUP 0W20 in 5 L jug for $30 CAD when on sale is unbeatable.
Which would you rather do: Save a few bucks on oil OR not have to do an engine rebuild sooner? I am ok with spending a bit more cash on the oil if it is proven to protect the engine better than others.
It's a really good value, no question. But I'm in the, "I'd rather explain my price (cause it's high), than my performance (cause it was lacking in some way). There are just places where I don't risk saving a few dollars today for... ... Ya know.
Vincent Periolat Exactly Vincent I do not look at price difference with my oil choice. Not to mention the preferred customer account I have and that I can go 2x-3x as long with better protection/performance than the competitors. The Ultra Platinum didn’t even come close to Amsoil on the wear test. I wouldn’t switch.
@@not12listen I always try to run the best oil I can get my hands on. After having to tear down a motor, for an unrelated issue, and seeing how well the internals had held up after exclusively running Amsoil, I was sold on their product. When it's not available, I try to run the next best thing, which up until this time was Royal Purple, but I may have to give Penzoil a try after seeing these results.
Made the switch from normal penzoil platinum to ultra platinum this year. Got curious what kind of content is out there for the top engine oils from top brands, that’s not sponsored, and this is exactly what I was looking for. Very much enjoyed the data, analysis, and production of the video. Thank you for putting this together!
@ProjectFarm you left out BG!. Please do amsoil vs BG. And then Amsoil with BG MOA. Moa is BG's oil conditioner. Amsoil says they don't need any other oil package with their oils because they have it in it already. BG says it will make any oil better!
@@devronscott8894 Diluting AMSOIL with any additive VOIDS the Amsoil warranty. NO additive can improve the superior performance & protection of any AMSOIL Lubricant. Use them as they are!
Good move. Just don't forget that price is the great equalizer. All oils are pretty darn good these days (they have to be) and Pennzoil has become more expensive after the initial roll out. So seems like Amsoil is still the best choice for extended drain and the least wear. But if you only drive 12,000 miles a year Pennzoil is a wise choice.
Pennzoil Ultra 2nd Best at half the price, I'd say that's a win 👍🏼I'll continue using the Ultra stuff and now with confirmation that I'm putting great stuff in my engine.
When you eye the consolidated results, you can see that Pennzoil Ultra Platinum was not 2nd best but still reached the finals. Pennzoil Platinum (not Ultra) is in my car’s engine right now but Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is closer to 6th place.
Especially because I can get 5 quarts at Wally World for $23 bucks of the PUP/PP and Don't have to jump through hoops to pay MORE money to get Amsoil; Amsoil intentionally doesn't stock their oil in stores to keep the price artificially inflated by perceived scarcity and "elite" status. That's fine, they can keep their product. Shell has Millions if not BILLIONS of dollars invested in R&D for lubricant products and come out ahead of almost everyone except for a select few "boutique" oils. Works for me.
You put an incredible amount of work into all these oil testing videos. You made it so much easier for me to choose the right oil for my vehicle! Thanks Todd
Thank you very much! I've had a lot of fun testing all of these brands and discovered that some brands are a lot better than I had anticipated. Looking forward to your next video!!!
Unless the oil formula have changed, wouldn’t the results be the same? The standards might be different, but the formula remains the same is what I mean. Unless the manufacturers introduced a new oil.
Still need no higher than SJ for old designed flat tappet, mower and motorcycle/ATV engines. Briggs, Kohler, Yamaha, Honda, and Elf oil for specific diesel engines are SJ and should be changed often.
True.... Pennzoil Euro LX 0w-30 used to be my go-too for its 504 spec but its API SN spec does not me the current API SP spec required by my latest vehicle. So i am switching to the latest Mobil 1 ESP 0w-30 formulation which is both 504 & SP rated. Would be interested in reviewing any comparables.
This is peak youtube my good man. Well done testing, no bias and giving the viewers actual applicable results. Standing ovation from Sweden where these tests really are applicable to normal use. Really, REALLY good work.
@@ProjectFarm Just saw an oil analysis of Total Quartz 10W40 Semi Syn. If you add up the detergents it looks like it surpasses Amsoil. Calcium: 3773 Moli: 109 Boron: 50 Mg: 10 TBN: 11 Zinc: 1307 Phosphorous: 986 Oxidation: 7.8
@Dean Finson yes I've been watching every time he uploads, it's given a lot of information on what people add to their engines. This guy deserves an award!
@@ProjectFarm Not sure if you come back to old videos very often but this is worth a shot! Any chance you can do an updated series? Seems like certain companies have updated their oils and we might see some different rankings now. Anyhow, you do the Lords work, sir. Thank you!
I bought an old Honda Accord several yrs ago for a work car with 110,000 miles on it, and used Super Tech full synthetic for the 1st 70,000 miles I put on the car, but after watching this video when it came out, it made me a believer. I switched to Pennzoil Platnium full synthetic (couldnt find the Ultra in stores near me) 100,000 miles later on the Pennzoil, clean and great running engine with no signs of wearing out. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your Honest and informative videos.
I won't spoil the end for anyone, but lets just say the oil that won well deserved it, and won for a reason. It is truly the best and many many many impartial tests for years have shown that it's the best. Great video!! Thanks for taking the time to make this for us Todd!
I have ran that oil for years. Will never run anything else. Not gonna lie I was biased throughout the whole Series secretly rooting for the winner haha.
They have for many years. Some people scoff at me for buying PZ but I (subjective I know) found years ago that my engines ran quieter and less oil burn using the yellow bottle than anything else. Nice to have proof!
Lucas all the way at the bottom that’s crazy seeing as their oil is very expensive and they sponsor a lot of racing. Thank you for this awesome series!
I've used Lucas additives and they have done well for me and I was thinking of switching to their oil but after this I'm not switching. I will still use the same additives I have had though
I run Amsoil Signature series 5w-30 in my 2017 Camaro SS. Iv ran it since the car was new. For the first 150,000 miles I ran it for 20,000 mile intervals with oil filter changes every 5,000 miles. The engine has zero noticeable blowby in my air-oil separator and engine burns no oil. I get 30+ MPG in my 455HP LT-1 V-8 engine going 80MPH on the highway. Car runs like the day I bought it. I also run Amsoil in my Can Am outlander XMR 1000R and the engine runs cool and quiet. Amsoil is the real deal.
I've been running Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in my vehicles for several years, but have been wanting to give Amsoil a try. Looks like either one is the right choice.
One thing I find interesting about the Pennzoil label is that it states that this synthetic oil is made from natural gas. I've had good results with this brand and will use it if it goes on sale.
@@jerryjeromehawkins1712 Yeah, switched to Pennzoil ultra plat. full synthetic(last two years or so) in my 2014 F-150, it's been purring like a kitten. Amsoil is highly respected, but i'll stick with Pennzoil. Great tests!
@@jerryjeromehawkins1712 I’m watching this because I filled my 4.6l modular with amsoil signature and a wix instead of pennzoil and a ford filter as I usually do and now it has clear lifter tick at idle. Does away once the oil pressurizes. I believe pennzoil has found the proper balance between viscosity and lubricity so that hydraulic lifter experience less pump down at lower rpm🤷♂️
you know that is going on display at corporate! They know that trophy sold more oil than any advertisement they paid for. Lol Pennsoil probably will have a framed screenshot in their offices too
Even watching this once again 3 years later amazes me! 😃👍 You did an effort and delivered a quality that many laboratories don't achieve. Thanks again, man! 😷🤗 P.S.: I like the idea in the comments of oilympics every 4 years... the deadline comes closer. 😎 I'm still suggesting a test of headlight bulbs. 😉
@@ProjectFarm Instead of using Motorkote and just Penz, how about using Motorkote with several lessor oils to see to see what it would take to dethrone Amsoil? Would something like Amazon or Super Tech with MotorKote stand a chance. Would Motorkote be good enough to bring Lucas to the top? Just thinking outside the box. Now that you have scorecards on all oils you can mix or add whatever you want to see how other oils may be may be improved. At what point would you experience diminishing returns? How much is enough, too much? Lots of possibilities now that you have the baseline data.
I have to say thank you from many auto enthusiasts doing testing on this controversial topic. I will always tell people to just go out and use what they like but as for me, I use strictly Amsoil on my car. Why? Because it can take a beating for autox/track use, still flow great in below zero temps and most importantly, supporting a local Wisconsin brand. You've definitely not getting a bad quality oil when going with Amsoil.
Pennzoil won the first test which was evaporation. Amsoil won the other 2 tests, which were the lubricity test with the cooked oils and cold flow test. Sounds like you didn't even bother watching the whole video.
I was a salesman who regularly put 25K+ miles on my vehicle per year. Most of my driving was done on the interstate so it wasn't nearly as hard on the engine. After spending a ton on 4K mile oil changes I switched to Amsoil about 30 years ago that allowed me to go 12K miles between changes. I later changed to the Signature Series and went 20K between changes. People looked at me like I was crazy, but over those 20 years I never had an oil related engine failure. I drove several different makes, but mostly Chrysler mini-vans with 6 cylinder engines. This stuff is the real deal!
The oil shop I work for used to sell Pennzoil as their basic conventional and synthetic options and Amsoil as their branded synthetic option, and now we use Kendall as our standard and Redline as our branded. Glad to see that the oils we use are actually good, and not just over hyped
Since Amsoil won can we please please see Amsoil Signature Series vs Amsoil’s two lower priced oils (Boosted Protection, and OE) all the same oil weight. Please and Thank you Todd 🙏
Garrett Stevensen I have never seen Amsoil for $15 I believe retail is $12.x as a preferred customer I pay $9.17 a quart for Amsoil SS guaranteed for 25k miles not 5-10k miles the wear test is night and day I would not run Pennzoil
Pennzoil Ultra Plat is also a great bang for buck. Amsoil wins overall, but they are expensive and in reality not worth it unless you have a very rare collector car.
That was a great series. I knew pennzoil would do great, but never thought I used the second best oil in the project farm playoff... glad you did this. Thanks!!
@@opinionsvary I wouldn’t care if the base materials included Kryptonite. I’d never go 25,000 miles between oil changes. Here’s why. I just watched a vid where the producer dissected a Supertec oil filter which had been used for 11,000 miles, with Supertec full synthetic oil. Now admittedly, Supertec isn’t Amsoil, but it’s still a good product, roughly middle of the pack among synthetics. But the filter was clogged with particulates that looked like sludge. Oil and filters are cheap. Engines & mechanics cost a bundle. Someone boasting of his super duper oil may cost him more than just bragging rights. Safe travels, friends.
@@mikem6176 That's right, it ain't the oil it is the filter. And besides, the most damaging components in dirty oil don't get filtered. Which is why all mechanics say to change your oil every 5K miles.
Not only is amsoil the best, they were also the first synthetic oil. It's great that they've maintained a high level of quality over the past 50+ years. I've definitely switched to Amsoil.
@@02hreblue30 in 1966, Amatuzio formulated his first synthetic motor oil, testing it in his colleague’s new 1966 Ford station wagon. In 1972, AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil became the world’s first synthetic motor oil to meet API service requirements. They had been using synthetic oils in planes and tanks, but AMSOIL was the 1st to produce a synthetic oil for the automobile engine as automobiles were using conventional oil up until that AMSOIL created it for us by every day people in their cars.
@@02hreblue30 Almost all of Germany's WWII oil was synthetic made from coal. But the cost was high and unintended costs were huge (not that the govt cared).
It's cheaper but they're also a conglomerate owned by shell. Amsoil is family run, with 3 generations currently working there. More expensive but I'd rather give them my money, but I realized that not every one can dish out extra money for that reason. They're both good oils regardless
@@Bruceskyy I mean, tbf, amsoil has to get the crude and petroleum derivatives from somewhere. It's not as though Shell isn't paying hundreds of thousands of people (if not more) who also have families. I understand how much more heartwarming a "family business" sounds, but it's all relative. This isn't a restaurant or coffee bean roaster we're talking about here...
I know this video is old, but I had to say that I just switched from using Pennzoil to Amsoil yesterday before i saw this video. Both are excellent choices, and since I drive for UBER full-time in Toronto with near unpredictable temperature changes, I have to use the best. This was a refreshing series to watch. Thank you for all your hard work, Project Farm.
If you drive an Uber or the like, it is recommended (by me) to do 3000 mi/5000 km change interval It’s been said that wear and tear caused by city driving is 10% of highway wear and tear
I am so impressed by your well-thought out testing methodology. Well done! Also, well done, Amsoil. I've used Amsoil products for quite a few years, so it's nice to see them prevailing in this test.
Todd, Great info on oils to help DIY folks and to allow everyone to pick better engine oils and protect their vehicles. The test I would like to see is the same oil producer…but different viscosities. So say 0W-16, 0W-20, 0W-30, and 0W-40…. All made by same manufacture and the same “line” for that manufacturer. The viscosities at 100C should be ~ 6, 7, 10, and 12 cP, respectively. Key items would be the lubricity test at ~100C, evaporization loss, and flow at both low (0C) and high (100C) temperature. So point is to determine how good low viscosity oils protect against wear vs higher viscosity (even if only 6 cP viscosity delta across the 4 oils (at operating temp of 100C)). Is getting a very small increase in gas mileage reducing the engine life? I want to get at least 300k from an engine. So need the best protection. Thanks for considering this test and keep up the great work!
I used to be a lab technician for quality and reliability. Worked in the auto industry for ~20 yrs and total for about 30 yrs. I doubt I could have done much better aside from instrumentation and equipment, which are cost prohibitive.
Its pretty cool what hes done with backyard engineering. its cool seeing someone do testing that we know is independent and harsher than real world will ever see.
@@garrettstevensen2467 Did Tod ever bring up price? He was trying to determine which is the best oil based on it's performance. If you don't want to spend $90 per oil change, no one is gonna blame you. But if you technically want the best, you have to pay the price. It's not much of a head scratcher, really.
Different type of testing; NOACK is irrelevant to gear oils. There is some testing that would be relevant to metals compatibility (brass) and how an oil behaves with a limited slip differential or in transaxles with GL-4 or GL-5 oils. In many cases it also has to double as a hydraulic fluid so that would be another type of test.
Seriously....if you aren't donating to this guys channel, quit being a tight ass and get to it! The time, effort, expertise and solid impartial scientific testing is unmatched by any other 'tuber I'm aware of. BRAVO SIR!!!!
Haven't seen you on forever, bud! Didn't we meet over ChrisFix gasoline additive testing? Or was it on Scotty Kilmer? Either way, I hope to see you around. I did some oil testing too. All real world trying to satisfy my motorcycle is the toughest. I've compared oil filters for my truck too.
The fact that Amsoil got to the final says a lot about their actual marketing being not "full of sh*t". That says a lot about the product! Thanks Project Farm!
@Sorgel Wix filters are good, but the strength of Amsoil oil doesn't come from the oil itself. It also comes very much from the filters. Do some research on Amsoil EA oil filters. They use synthetic media that offers far better filtration down to a much smaller Micron size and also better flow then a typical filter. Some other company sell them as well, but Amsoil makes the largest variety of filters and they're easy to acquire. It's how they got such long oil change intervals. The filters are so good that a oil analysis on Bobistheoilguy show the oil was actually cleaner than factory after being used in the engine and passing through these filters.
Thank you for your time and effort. Ive been using Mobil1 in my daily driver for years, I'm switching to Pennzoil. And knowing I'm good with Amsoil in my Land Cruiser.
@@ProjectFarm I grew up with my father always insisting that Castrol and Pennzoil were the best of the best motor oil manufacturers (he regarded it as a tie but for whatever reason usually stuck w/ Castrol GTX for our oil changes) in terms of quality and reputation... he's a DIY'er and generally knows his stuff but this experiment of yours has me wondering what else he's wrong about!!!
@@ProjectFarm - You are welcome. I also thought of something while working on the wife's cultivator. We are fortunate in our area that the Maverick gas station carries non-ethanol blended gasoline but before they did it was a nightmare trying to keep all of the little gas engines going because of the ethanol damage to the carburetors, fuel pumps and fuel lines. Our local gas engine repair guy told me about some additives that would help prevent this but he said they only delayed the inevitable. It was about that time the Maverick station started selling the unblended fuel so I was golden but I'm sure many people are in areas where unblended fuels are unavailable and would benefit from knowing which of the additives work the best.
If Todd tests waxes, he ought to check AMMO NYC out. They're expensive and Larry Kosilla (head of the company) has all sorts of different products that you're not going to see elsewhere. Larry works on million dollar cars. I'm not well versed in using his products, I've only used the Wheel Care Kit; Skipping past the soap, I'm pleasantly surprised by the Brake Dust Remover ("Plum") which I can't think of a similar product to compare it to. Dunno what to say about the tire gel, I might have left too much on the tires since it flew off in the rain?
Thank you for everyting you do Todd! In my Championship playoff of best YT channels, Project Farm gave all the competition a beat down. Thanks for not being a shill like so many others!!
Thanks for this series, Project Farm! As a regular human being who uses his Tacoma to carry tools and go to the store on Sundays, I'd go with Pennzoil. The price difference between Pennzoil and Amsoil is huge! I think it all depends on what kind of vehicle you have, and how much you can let go in oil and filters.
I just priced the top oils here and turns out Amsoil was literally a few dollars more than the Pensoil. Yes, I did have to spend $20 extra for a membership with Amsoil but, after that the cost was next to nothing between Amsoil and Pensoil. After the initial cost of “membership” the cost per liter for Amsoil is less than the cheapest Pensoil I can find
Ives used amsoil signature in my suv from the start. It now has 140,000 miles and doesn’t burn any oil. No knocks or valve noises. It runs and sounds like new.
I’ve been an AMSOIL dealer for several years and been running their oil for the last 10 years. Really love their oil and all their other products they offer. I change my oil once a year now. Made a huge difference in my motorcycle as well. 2008 Triumph Daytona 675
I use Pennzoil ultra platinum. If Amsoil SS was API certified I would be all over it, but my warranty could be voided if I don't use an API certified oil. Says right in my manual, called sevice dept at dealarship and they said the same thing. So no $$$$$$$ from me to Amsoil.
@@ProjectFarm This would be a great test, some of the most common motorcycle oils; Amsoil 10W-40 Synthetic Metric Motorcycle Oil, Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10w-40, Motul 300V 4T Factory Line 10W-40 Synthetic Oil, Castrol POWER1 4T 10W40 Full Synthetic Motorcycle Oil, Lucas High Performance Synthetic 4T 10W40 Motorcycle Oil With Moly, Valvoline 4-Stroke Motorcycle Full Synthetic SAE 10W-40 Motor Oil, and Super Tech Full Synthetic SAE 10W-40 4-Stroke Motorcycle Oil. Would be even more beneficial if you found a way to measure it's impact on clutch wear or lack of, and/or slippage proper torque transfer. This would be a super cool test to do with motorcycle oils, the normal test and then some way to include some kind of results on each oil in a wet clutch situation.
You're by far the best and most thorough "Tester" I've come across on RUclips. I really liked the line up of tests you put these synthetic oils through and the data you showed for every single oil! I do have to say though, comparing all these oils against each other doesn't seem fair, as they're designed for different performance standards. Some are designed for traditional performance, while others are designed for super extended performance. I.E. SuperTech Full Synthetic vs. Amsoil Signature Series. 🤷🏽♂️
Out of all your videos this is by far my favorite. I watched it afew years ago, when I decided to use Amsoil in my GDI engines. Just rewatched. Thanks again!
Love your videos and how much you help us buy the best! I am recovering from a knee replacement and went through your oil test video and logged the wear test results in millimeters, averaging the oils that were tested more than once and placed them in order from the least to the most wear. I feel the wear test and the volatility test are the most important. Here are the are the wear results: 1st, Amsoil at 5.91, 2nd, Lucas at 5.95, 3rd, Motul at 5.99, 4th, Mobile and Redline at 6.01, 5th, Kendall and Penrite at 6.02, 6th, Castrol and Schaeffer at 6.03, 7th, Royal Purple and Quaker State at 6.07, 8th, Super Tech at 6.08, 9th, Amazon and Pennzoil at 6.12, 10th, Liquid Moly at 6.45 and last, Valvoline at a very distant 6.7😮 Note: While Amsoil finished first with an average of 5.91, it had 2 other test results of by far the oil tests lowest of 5.78, showing no competitor was even close in wear protection!😊
Loved this series. I’m very picky when it comes to the fluids I put in my cars and bikes. You’ve got rid of the guessing game and I trust your work like no other
Been using Pennzoil Platinum exclusively for several years, glad to see my choice was a good one! Also, it cracks me up that you actually sent them a trophy LOL
I Have to say, I used to use Mobil 1 and penzoil ultra platinum since I work at a dealer as a technician but after giving amsoil a try it’s probably one of the best oils out there in my opinion.
I hope this series gets another go with the new oils like valvoline ultimate protection that have been released since then and Include havoline/ others. Looking forward to it!
I think it would be cool to throw out some of the obviously inferior oils like Quaker state and such, and introduce Motul 300v, and Brad Penn oil and others into the testing. They are supposedly top grade with amsoil
I would like to see how factory oils stack up to these other oils. Factory recommended dexos from GM, motorcraft, and other OEM manufacturers oil's. Newer direct injection engines seem to have a very high fuel dilution percentage based on oil analysis I have had done on them
Fuel dilution is the blasted low friction piston rings used now, that yes do cut down on friction thus better mileage but a lot more blow-by into crankcase. It's robbing Peter to pay Paul.
@Blind Squid Ford/Mazda/Toyota (others now?) have dual DI with PI as well injected engines such that that the intake valves still get the cleaning that only DI based ones don't.
This guy is the only one of the Internet who does REAL science and facts to figure out what's better!! There's just no one else on the Internet who's really doing the work and show the whole process. We love you!! ❤
This series was a lot of fun and the difference in quality between the brands is amazing! Congratulations to Amsoil and Pennzoil for their amazing oils that were extremely competitive in this showdown series! Thanks again and best regards, Todd

@@02hreblue30 Almost all of Germany's WWII oil was synthetic made from coal. But the cost was high and unintended costs were huge (not that the govt cared).
I'll be switching from Mobil 1 to Pennzoil. Thanks for the testing.
Me too!
Same here
Why not Amsoil?
Me too
@@85minime Sh1t's expensive.
Pennzoil is looking like a very good value in this testing. The Walmart, Amazon, Costco looks good as well. Thanks for this!
@@winebartender6653 no crude , no petroleum
Can we please just take the time to appreciate the time/expense for this competition?! Thank you very much!
You are welcome!
Thanks and you are welcome!
Amsoil is fantastic oil. I even use their small engine oil in my mowers with fantastic results. Over 60hrs of use and not a drop of oil has been used.
If you drive an Uber or the like, it is recommended (by me) to do 3000 mi/5000 km change interval
It’s been said that wear and tear caused by city driving is 10% of highway wear and tear
I am so impressed by your well-thought out testing methodology. Well done! Also, well done, Amsoil. I've used Amsoil products for quite a few years, so it's nice to see them prevailing in this test.
Thanks! Thanks for sharing.
How cool would it be if Amsoil makes a thank you video?
They should. I mean if nothing else, this man's effort probably got them a fuck ton more business.
Amsoil replied in the comments. It is now pinned. They thanked him for the testing and trophy.
I use this video at my job(napa auto parts) once in while to show customers. I choose Pennzoil over amsoil because almost as good and its less money
Todd,
Great info on oils to help DIY folks and to allow everyone to pick better engine oils and protect their vehicles.
Thank you for supporting the channel!
I used to be a lab technician for quality and reliability. Worked in the auto industry for ~20 yrs and total for about 30 yrs. I doubt I could have done much better aside from instrumentation and equipment, which are cost prohibitive.
Thank you!
Its pretty cool what hes done with backyard engineering. its cool seeing someone do testing that we know is independent and harsher than real world will ever see.
@@garrettstevensen2467 I absolutely agree.
@@garrettstevensen2467 that pricing really only applies to 5w-30. The other weights are much closer in pricing.
Been using amsoil for so long! My dad has been using it or longer, has never let me down!
Great feedback. Thank you
90W oil testing would be a good showdown. I'd imagine that the rearend gets overlooked quite frequently
Thank you for the video idea!
I second this... I need to do differential oil and haven't bothered starting research on GL-5.
Thats gonna take a loooooonnnggg time, like Indy500 time.
I agree. Some type of gear oil tests like 75w-90 oils. Amsoil and Mobil 1 both have good oils.
Seriously....if you aren't donating to this guys channel, quit being a tight ass and get to it! The time, effort, expertise and solid impartial scientific testing is unmatched by any other 'tuber I'm aware of. BRAVO SIR!!!!
How much of your own money did you send him?
He made money by having many views.
Wow, this series was fun & exciting!
Thank you so much, Project Farm for the win!
Thank you for watching!
Great video series, Project Farm is truly un-biased, honest, straight forward testing outlet! Great job!
Thanks so much!
The fact that Amsoil got to the final says a lot about their actual marketing being not "full of sh*t". That says a lot about the product! Thanks Project Farm!
Thank you!
I think if you used any of the last 4 you can't go wrong
@Sorgel I think there used to be a reason for this, but they have apparently decided to rest on their laurels.
@Sorgel heathen!!! What about shop coolants like wobbly pops?
Thank you for your time and effort. Ive been using Mobil1 in my daily driver for years, I'm switching to Pennzoil. And knowing I'm good with Amsoil in my Land Cruiser.
You are welcome!
No body on youtube dose this test better than you.
Thank you!
I take daily dose of RUclips too.
BLACKSTONE LABS NOT RUclips BROSCIENCE
@@bobshenix This experiment does not prove your dad wrong. Current generation synthetic oil ranking does not carry over to older conventional oil.
You are a credit to the human race and are providing a great service to the unorganized consumer masses. Perhaps a comparison of car wax?
Thank you for the video idea!
I’ve been using amsoil for 24years it’s a no brainer. I’ve also logged 2 million miles with on my company work trucks.
Impressive! Thank you for the feedback
How is Amsoil with leaking
Been a dealer and exclusive user of Amsoil products since 1982. Absolute best products across the spectrum.
no bias right? Not even a bit. No regerts. None at all
Thanks for the feedback.
Thank you for everyting you do Todd! In my Championship playoff of best YT channels, Project Farm gave all the competition a beat down. Thanks for not being a shill like so many others!!
Thank you!!!
Those final graphs were super helpful for making informed buying decisions. Amazing video series and thanks for having ears ready to listen.
Thank you!
Yes, he did great work on the final results.
You are welcome! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing.
Very impressive testing carried out. As always, you do a very fair comparison. Keep up the good work.
I’ve been an AMSOIL dealer for several years and been running their oil for the last 10 years. Really love their oil and all their other products they offer. I change my oil once a year now. Made a huge difference in my motorcycle as well. 2008 Triumph Daytona 675
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much for the positive and constructive feedback!
Out of all your videos this is by far my favorite. I watched it afew years ago, when I decided to use Amsoil in my GDI engines. Just rewatched. Thanks again!
Thank you!
Thanks! Thanks for sharing.

Why don’t you compare it against shell Rotella T 6

I would like to see how factory oils stack up to these other oils. Factory recommended dexos from GM, motorcraft, and other OEM manufacturers oil's. Newer direct injection engines seem to have a very high fuel dilution percentage based on oil analysis I have had done on them
Thank you for the video idea!
I too would like to see how motorcraft 5w20 stacks up against these.
