I’m from Alabama we don’t use a lot of QS oil but I’ve just started so you think it’s pretty good oil safe to use in my mercury grand marquis with about 126.000 miles on it ?
Unless your a gearhead and just purchased an expensive vehicle or you just spent a bunch of time and money rebuilding an engine and want to make sure you have the absolute best compression, efficiency and power. Not all oils are created equal and some people want to be "more fine" than others.
Not to mention this test has nothing to do with what happens in a vehicle motor. The highest rated oil is Amsoil 0-20w. Quaker state ultimate durabiliy is far superior to any Royal purple offering with a 124,393 psi. RP best oil is in the 90,000 psi range. Walmart super tech is as good or better than RP.
I used royal purple once along with their filter. sent the oil to blackstone labs and it actually performed poorly over a 5k change interval. (compared to valvoline synpower). I would have liked to have seen the same lab results here as well.
I'll stick with Quaker state have seen cars going over 350.000miles just using regular quaker state not even synthetic so imagine with synthetic how long a car would run.

The Royal Purple HPS is much better than the regular Royal Purple. Quaker State, good oil for a good price, you can't go wrong with either oil. Great video.
Between those two I'd most definitely pick QS. Besides cost those two formulas have changed since then. But for cost alone you can't lose. I've seen several tests showing the later API formula RP not even worth running 6000 miles where the QS usually has some TBN left at 7500 miles. I actually prefer Pennzoil to QS but it's whatever. Also those aren't realistic tests. When you can run a NYC taxi cab with QS conventional for 500,000 miles and then take the engine apart and there's little wear and the ring lands are still clean and there's not much varnish in the engine that's good enough for me
Hey man can you test used oil with 5k miles vs oil with 10k miles, I know nowadays oil can go past 10k miles, but I wonder how much protection is lost.

This content is great more people should discover this channel. Of the two Royal purple will win let’s see. Ha won Royal Purple specially the bearing test but the price again and the Quaker is close and better for the price.
You got to look at the bigger picture. Not too much difference in a 5 minute bearing test , but how much difference in wear in a motor after running 100k miles between the two oils?
NATES INTERACTIVE AUTO True but relative. It doesn’t change the result. If that is the case, everyone should buy Amsoil. In real life there are cars with 300,000 miles without Amsoil. I bet this Quaker can let a car reach that mileage, Royal purple should be more but at that price level Amsoil is a better option.
These tests are great but it's not going to tell you how the Oil performs over long term use. Such as long-term temperature breakdown, moisture dilution, as well as fuel dilution. You need to know what the total Base number of the oil is? These are all things that need to be examined when you test a motor oil to see how well it performs. You can take any virgin oil out of the bottle and it's going to perform well in a test but it needs to be tested after its ran about 5,000 miles in an engine. I love Royal Purple HPS because it's not limited by the standard requirements of the API. Motor oils that are API licensed our limited on their additive package especially when it comes to ZDDP. Royal Purple HPS is not limited therefore they can formulate their oil to have a much stronger additive package. And before anyone claims that too much zinc and phosphorus in motor oil can cause damage to the catalytic converters show me proof anywhere of an actual Cadillac converter getting clogged up by too much ZDDP? The only way that can happen is if your vehicle is burning a ridiculous amount of oil. ZDDP is a major anti-wear additive that most common synthetic API licensed motor oils lack and it is part of the reason why engines wear out sooner and the oil breaks down faster. The only time I recommend people use motor oil that is covered under the API is if your vehicle is still under the manufacturer's warranty.
@Morris 1234 No that is incorrect. I've seen the synthetic base stock arrive at the Royal Purple refinery in Porter Texas and it is clear from the truck when testing samples for water contamination. The purple is from dye added after along with additives. Dye burns off after a thousand miles of service from experience
Someone called my home number and said they preferred QS. Do you? I guess each to their own. I mean when you pull their MSDS and can recognize the different components based on their numbers and you realize just about every brand oil out there whether conventional/blend SP API or grp3 oil based synthetic started out as a pataffinic oil. They're all solvent cut and hydrotreated and then there's different levels of base oils that are also hydrotreated and solvent cut. There's what's called a Base Oil Index for Quality or BOIQ. And you'd be surprised what oils start with better bases... but that's not the end of it. I pretty much prefer a name brand (but ST and Kirkland in this area are defined by Warren and that's good). If I were you I'd look up your preferred brand and look for the PDS (physical properties) and look for the HT/HS. That's probably more important than any label on the bottle. But look...if you had engine problems using any certain brand it wasn't the oils fault. Blame yourself. It's like the deal with certain Honda's and Ecoboost engines with an oil screen. The screen should be a listed maintenance item that should be replaced every 150,000 miles at least. GM had them too.. so people didn't have those replaced and at 200,000 miles those screens were dirty and restricting oil flow. I know you wouldn't believe this but people actually blamed the oil brand when it wouldn't have mattered what brand they used. Best wishes. Call me later. I'll bring my stethoscope.
