Having owned a high performance fuel company I was all set to get on here and give you some real factual information, but your friend the Engineer did a great job and really nailed it. Saved me from writing a book on this topic. It seems that a lot of people just don't know how to decide what the oil change interval should be. With modern API SN+ oils it is really very easy. You need to keep an eye on your oil and when it gets black, you need to change it. Now technically this is not correct, but for a regular person without a lab it works very well. The oil will work usually for at least 5,000 miles on most cars. BUT, some engines (Like your BMW) need to have the oil changed more often. If you have to change the oil at 3,000 miles then you just do it.
When "cleaning up" an engine that was TRASHED like those EBay engines then you need to change the oil every 500 to 1,000 miles for possibly six oil changes until the oil can go 3,000 miles and still look relatively clean. Then you know the engine is very clean and you can increase the mileage between oil changes until you see the oil getting black. In doing this you CAN use a cheaper SN oil like Amsoil OE, Mobil 1, Walmart full Synthetic or Amazon Full Synthetic . The oils that meet The SN+ rating are packed full of detergents and will ultimately get the engine clean enough to eat off of. Having an engine get to the condition of those EBay engines is really a disaster in the making from severe neglect and lack of oil changes. Those drug dealers should have been arrested for car abuse! Nice topic.

I've put 125k royal purple miles on a 2010 mazda 6. We recently changed the valve cover gasket and checked out the motor. Everything was still in factory spec. No leaks. The engine consumes a half quart of oil every ten thousand miles. It's done that since the very first oil change. The techs were shocked at how Clean the motor was.

I have a 2017 nissan titan change my oil every 4000 miles with a full synthetic 0w20 viscosity. I started using royal Purple I just wanted to see what was all the hooplah was all about and man I'm glad I did. I used mobil 1 in all my vehicles never had a problem. But with royal purple my truck runs so smooth and has great throttle responce and acceleration. People say oil is just oil awe no it's not, I noticed also when I'm at a red light my truck actually sounds like it's off that's how quiet it is. I use also a the royal purple filter as well. Will also change it every 4000 miles people say u can go 10000, that's just me I like changing my oil every 4000 plus cleaning mY K&N air filter at every oil change. Absolutely nothing wrong with using synthetic oil in an old engine. I have a 98 Camry V6 that I bought new and used nothing but Synthetic oil since day 1 for 15 years. Sold it but still service it with synthetic oil to this day. 320,000 miles on the engine. Doesn’t burn any extreme amount of oil. Doesn’t smoke. Doesn’t leak. Only ever replaced valve cover seals due to age after 17 years. Perfectly normal to me.

    Cred = bad
SeaFoam to crankcase for 50/100 miles and watch the crud AND cred fall out of your used oil. Take a magnet to your old oil if you REALLY want to see if there is serious “cred” in your motor (then list on Craigslist and make it someone else’s problem if your magnet pulled out serious “cred”)....

Conventional thinking dictates oil gets less viscous with heat. Motor oil apparently does the opposite ( like 0w20). How come the oil is better flowing hot than room temp if it starts off as a "0"( less viscous) and becomes "20" (more viscous) at operating temp, shouldn't it be runnier at garage temps instead of after driving around? am i thinking about viscosity wrong? is there another parameter i dont know about which explains it?

My experience with Royal Purple has been positive, to the point that I wish that I’d pulled the valve cover on my Jeep before running RP HMX oil in it. When I got the Jeep(XJ w/4.0 I6) it smoked, especially when idling for extended periods. Within two oil changes the engine has stopped smoking even if you idle it for an hour or more. I’m pretty sure this is a junkyard motor but it has good compression and runs pretty good. When I pulled the valve cover off, there was sludge on the top end but only in and above the recesses for the casting plugs so that it looked like a square head instead of a recess and there’s a little grit on top of the rockers and the rest of the top end was still stained but otherwise very clean, surprisingly so. I’m guessing that it cleaned out some stuck rings and got everything freed up. Could a cheap oil have done the same? Possibly, but regardless, with the 4.0 being a pushrod engine it benefits from the zinc in the HMX formula. I also run the non-HMX in a 2009 Nissan Xterra with 106k miles and I took a peek inside the top end with a bore scope recently and was happy to see clean aluminum with no stains. The stuff works for me and if someone scoffs at my choice then that’s on them, I just know that the odds of either of my engines having an oil related problem are pretty low. Let the haters do what they do, they don’t pay for my maintenance.

Another 3k miles later, looking that way again. No unusual smoking or oil consumption that Ive noticed. BUT- Will/Could this happen to me?

    • @TenzaMotorsports
      @TenzaMotorsports  4 года назад

The older chevy motors (older than 90’s) do this the most.
The newer v6 And v8’s like your blazer do not generally have this issue. Though the early 90’s 4.3 L V6 can lose a valve if run at high RPM for too long. As long as it was not too severely abused before you got it yours should be fine as long as you keep up your good service schedule.

    • @OranthumLLC

      Nic Longo
      Um.....
      You are right... and wrong.
Absolute filtration at 8 microns does not exist in a wix filter
Nominal filtration at 8 microns does exist but not in a wix filter.
Fram has nominal filtration at 8 micron and it has plenty of oil flow.
Do you actually think somebody could sell a filter that did not flow enough oil when clean?
Filters are rated for both nominal filtration ( the average particle filtration at a given particle sise.) And capacity of filtered particulate before they become flow restricted.
So as long as you don’t exceed the filters life it WILL flow sufficient oil at its rated particularly sise.

I remain confused as to how Royal Purple remains a mystery to many. I have used Royal Purple for 15 years. This oil is incredible. I used it in my VQ35DE engine for almost 200,000 miles. This engine was redlined every week for 15 years. The day we opened up the engine, there was zero gunk anywhere inside the engine. It was super clean. The timing chain had not even slacked one bit after so.much hard driving all those years.. How hard did i drive this car with RP? The car was modified. The response with RP was heavenly. On the top end with half a tank of gas to reduce weight, it could hang on the top end with V8 Camaros. Royal Purple helped my engine produce its naximum potential without problems. No naturally aspired V6 could hang with my car. Even turbo 4 cylinders struggled to keep up. RP was so good that l learned to formulate my own engine oil based on the engine response i wanted, how much i intended to stress the car, how quickly it helped cool the engine, etc. In Summer i would use 4 quarts of 0W-40 and 1 quart of 5W-30. In Fall/Winter, i would use 3 quarts of 0W-40 and 2 quarts of 5W-30. I changed my oil every 2,000 miles. So, my car got 5 - 6 oil changes a year. I consider engine oil a coolant. It helps the radiator to work better. Fredh oil cools the engine well. I have a strange test i do with oils. RP beat Mobil 1 in my test. The only Mobil that met RPs performance was Mobil 1 EP. All Mobil 1s are not the same. Mobil 1 made for European cars or Mobil 1 EP, are as good as RP based on my weird test. I would stay away from the plane Jane Mobil 1--- was not as good as RP. RP also makes your engine quiet. After 15 years and 200,000 miles, there is nothing anyone can tell me about RP. I love RP. And their injector cleaner is amazing too. You do not need to add too much in your gas tank because it is very powerful. 1/4 of a bottle should last you about 2 months with clean air filters. All my cars use my personally engineered oils. All my cars get a minimum of 4 oil changes every year. RP is amazing oil. The last time i used an oil that good was non-synthetic Castrol GTX. This is another solid oil i have used for almost 30 years on a 1.6 liter engine with 340,000 miles. The engine of this car has never been removed in 30 years. Does not burn or lose oil. It is driven hard. Still uses original timing chain and guides installed 30 years ago. Still has original head gasket.

.. so the guys bitching about sludge dripping on to your bearings would rather leave the sludge in the engine? I like your approach. Get that shit out if there and see what mileage it gets cleanest.

Very interesting videos. Personally I have not run Royal Purple in my vehicles. Don’t laugh but I usually run Castrol Full Synthetic. Had great luck with that oil over the years. I have also run Kendall Semi-Synthetic.
My theory on the oil cleanliness is.
I like to see a dirty oil when I do my oil changes. That tells me the oil is doing its job of both cleaning and lubrication. If I see a oil, when I do my oil change. That coming out that looks like it came out of the bottle I am curious to why it wasn’t more dirty.
My thoughts about Full Synthetic oils causing leaks. 100 % agree with David. Depending on how the engine was maintained prior . If previous owner did not maintain it properly and start using a good detergent oil full synthetic that will clean all that junk out.
What I do when I bought my current car. I ran 5w-20 through it for 1500 miles then switched back to my normal 10w-30. The thinner oil helped clean it. I don’t run the Royal Purple right now due to my car having an oil leak (valve covers). I may run the Royal Purple in my next car/truck. My car has almost 260k on it.

Not sure why a lot of people are talking trash about RP. And they do not even know that RP has 3 different levels by the way. I use RP XPR and car runs a lot better and smoother than on any other oils that I ever used. If you are not cheap try buying Royal Purple XPR and you will feel difference right after your oil change.

I have a Scion xB with the 2z-fe engine that is know to burn oil. The holes in the pistons below the oiler rings were designed wrong, clog up, and eventually clog up the rings causing the oil to burn. I got the car with 75k miles and immediately switched to Royal purple 0-20 and a short interval oil change. I'm continuing to use this oil and wix xp filters hoping I can stave off the oil consumption problem.

If your concerned about the recommended weight oil damaging your engine then you have bigger problems than the oil.

Royal Purple HPS best oil ever and filters too, the guy who had oil problems with his home built yugo kit probably had a garbage engine to begin with, just saying motor on.

@@TenzaMotorsports No problem and one good thing about RP filters they only sell the one filter to fit your engine the best one they can manufacturer so you don't have to choose, which makes it easy for most people, not like fram we're they offer the crappy filters and their best.

Royal Purple is THE worst oil on the market. I saw that garbage RP ruin an entire fleet of big block 496 Chevy engines. When we changed from regular Mobile 5000 oil to Royal Purple.
Our engines started using 2-3 quarts per day. Several engines locked down completely. I wouldn't use Royal Purple in an old wore out lawnmower.
      Seriously, purple oil ???

Wow "some" of these questions are just completely stupid. I have used RP in every vehicle I have owned, except Honda. Honda does not like RP in my experience. Mobile 1 for Honda. I know when my head gasket blew on my 97 Sierra cause of a factory flaw of the plastic clip that held the heater hose to the intake manifold. At 136k miles of running RP the cylinder walls still had the cross hatching in the cylinder walls. I was sold forever. I mostly use RP in GM vehicles, I start using it immediately, since I buy all my vehicles used. Never once had an issue with the oil. I'm not going to buy a 200k mi car and put a high detergent oil in it and expect miracles.

NOT all the oil gets filtered that flows to the filter! Only the oil that can flow through filter media gets filter the rest is bypassed. You would need a filter much larger the filter 100% of the oil!

You are wrong about the filter clogging up then blowing apart. If you have any halfway decent oil filter if the oil pressure reaches the bypass valve max pressure it will open and the oil will just flow unfiltered. If you have a filter that blows apart you have the cheapest junk filter that you should not even use in your lawn mower.
