  • In this video, we examine a passage that is commonly cited by proponents of baptismal regeneration. Is Jesus referring to water baptism when He says, "ye must be born again"? What does the Bible say? I pray this teaching provides clarity and dispels any confusion concerning this subject. God bless! - OD

I was an ardent believer in baptismal regeneration. Acts 2:38 was my John 3:16 salvation verse.
Once I came to salvation by faith alone in Christ alone I understood the act of baptism didn’t save me.
The conversion of Cornelius helped confirm my newfound faith in Christ.
He simply heard the gospel and was filled with The Holy Spirit.
Galatians says we HEAR, believe and receive The Spirit.

This is why things like this exist in scripture, it puts a dagger into the works based argument. No matter which way you look at it, same is either wrong about 1 or the other or both. In this case it’s both.
God doesn’t put things like this in scripture just for the fun of it. It’s there for a reason. The reason being, it tells you that someone can still be saved on there death bed yet living like such a bad person would warrant them to be crucified. @tomcatpurr Thank you, Brother in Christ. I was a very prideful person. I hated God so much because homosexuality was a sin. My soul craved to worship gods that wasn't the Biblical God. I worshipped in a goddess who I viewed as a mother, which I now know was demonic. It was through her that I opened a portal in my room and body. It was fine at first, but I started to be very depressed, anxious, and have panic attacks. I would wake up and feel spirits touching me and felt violated. One day, my conscious, which i believed was God warned me to come out from under these demonic spirits, or they will eventually kill me. I knew this had to be God. I opened my bible, and there was scripture about sorcery , spells, and idolatry. It was Isaiah chp .46 and chp 47. It hit me like bricks that I was committing sin. I eventually was on my knees one night ,feeling all the burdens weighing down on me and begging God to forgive me of all my sins. I felt a peace in my soul. I knew that I was saved . I trusted that only Jesus could save me. I am not perfect, but I do know that I am justified and the Holy Spirit working in me of my sanctification process. I am slowly humbled and thankful for what he has done for me.

This is a great biblical interpretation of baptism. Unfortunately Sam is typically interpreting scripture out of context.
He focuses on one particular verse and reads INTO it so he can get what he wants OUT of it, instead of allowing the following verses to interpret themselves.
Water baptism does NOT save anyone.
It is Christ that saves and it is by His sacrifice on the Cross that He accomplishes the victory over both objective sin and its accompanying subjective sins.
" you must be born again " this birth is by the Spirit.
This is regeneration. There is NO water here. The spiritual revelation of who Christ is, brings about regeneration.
Babies being baptised with water is NOT regeneration.

I have always found it amazing that in the Gospel of John, the Apostle John had no problem using the word "baptize", "baptizest" and "baptizing" is found in Ch 1, then "baptized", "baptizing" and "baptizeth" in Ch 3. If the use of water in John 3:5 meant baptize, why wouldn't Jesus use the word baptize there? Jesus had no problem using the word in reference to the baptism of John in Matt. 21:25 and in other places.

I never have to even move my lips to pray because God knows my thoughts. And as soon as He sees my thought/prayer any other asking is utter unbelief. And unbelief in a believer is an oxymoron. It’s not about a religion it’s about a relationship. And a relationship happened in my brain via my ears via a man preaching. A forever relationship. That doesn’t require anything on my part but the faith part/ brain switch. If I try to love God then thats works based. Can I earn anything based on my works? Is this God’s work plus my work? No. Faith alone in Christ alone. This is not about what I do. It’s about what He has done. I’m a filthy rag with a switched brain like snow covered dung. I thank God I don’t have to look all religious and fake. I can be invisible in my invisible church. That love and prayer and posturing is an excess possible sacrilegious man made work if I don’t guard against a Pharisee mindset. Baptism is a work for the other invisible church members to see that my brain belief switch has flipped like theirs. It’s unnecessary since the thief on the cross didn’t need it. God is no respecter of persons. Is the thief better than me? Well you may say baptism is a testimony. For who? God sees my heart. To perform a purely symbolic gesture as a testimony is so ritualistic and anti faith alone. Now God wants me jumping through symbolic hoops to add to the finished work at Calvary? When I take symbolic crackers and Welch’s grape juice in my home is that for you or for me? Do you need to see me do this to prove through a ritual that I’m an adopted son? How institutional and religious are you? Symbolism is really only to remember what He did. For now my memory is good. For some of you I’ve seen you get water baptized several times. Maybe your memory is bad and need the constant affirmation through a religious act that has now become repetitious like all your other accretions. Don’t put God in your religious box, big box (churches) or small box (mindset). The Holy Spirit brings freedom.

In Matthew 28 Jesus said, “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” So it sounds as if Christians are expected to obey Jesus and get baptized.

This is why you can't look at one side of verses. Luckily Peter spoke about this directly. 1st Peter 3 verse 21. This water symbolizes baptism that now saves you, not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience towards God. Not the removal of dirt from the body that saves you, or in other words not the water because that's a symbol just like it was in the old testament , parting the water, Noah's family, Moses and the rock, it was all pointing to Jesus

Then there's Mark 16:16, people keep trying to separate Gospel teachings as if they aren't correlated; they go together if You're saved you will go do what the Lord has commanded, and be baptized by water and Spirit, Nicodemus's understanding was that he thought he had to go back into his mother's womb, because he didn't understand what Jesus meant, Jesus then said by water and Spirit (Baptism). If you truly believe then you'll do whats required.

The born of the water is our first birth, our physical birth, and the born of the spirit is clearly referring to our second birth, our spiritual birth (born from above). Whoever taught Sam this sloppy argument needs to give Sam his money back. Bad teaching! Sam can get away with this from a random caller, but not against somebody fluent in soteriology.

A better question to ask is not why baptism isn’t explicitly mentioned in passages that seem to imply that “belief” is all that is required for our justification, but rather, why IS baptism mentioned in passages that tie it to our justification?
In other words, you won’t find a single passage in Sacred Scripture that mentions baptism and negates its salvific efficacy.
You will, however, find a number of passages in Sacred Scripture that tie baptism to our justification.
Lastly, in one of numerous examples, St. Paul takes it for granted that believing and being baptized are part of the same thought and action. Hence in Acts 19 he asks, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you BELIEVED?”
“No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
Then notice how in his reply, St. Paul ties belief with baptism, “Then what baptism did you receive?”
Whenever St. Paul mentions “believing in Christ,” he takes for granted that believing is tantamount to having been baptized.
And this is precisely what EVERY Christian believed prior to the “reformation.”

Amen! brother Onorato...For those who think baptism is necessary for salvation there are many verses that show that this is not the case (ex. the thief on the cross-no chance to be water baptized) here is one really good one that shows that in no way do you have to be baptized to be saved...this one verse alone makes it clear salvation is at the very second you put your trust in Christ alone:
    ACTS: 10:43-45
Act 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
Act 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
Act 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Here is a more in-depth study of baptism... I hope everyone finds this helpful:
    STUDY ON THE DIFFERENT BAPTISM’S
Water baptism is a testimonial of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Water baptism has never been, nor will it ever be a means of securing the remission of sins.
The Greek word "baptizo" has been transliterated in our English Bibles. The translators simply replaced the "o" with an "e". This is called a transliteration not a translation, because in true translation work the meaning of the word is carried over from one language into another. Therefore, the precise meaning of the word is not conveyed. If you consult the finest Greek lexicons or exhaustive concordances, you will always find that the word "baptizo" means "to dip" or "to immerse." The Greek language has another word for "sprinkle." Careful examination will show that the word "rhantizo" (sprinkle) is never used in connection with the ordinance of baptism.
Usually when people hear the word "baptism," they immediately think of water baptism. This has caused untold confusion concerning the doctrine of water baptism. To demonstrate that baptism doesn't always refer to water baptism, we will list ten different baptisms taught in the Bible. Most are not related to water at all.
    1) the baptism of John the Baptist (Matthew 3:11)
    2) the baptism of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:11)
    3) the baptism of fire (HELL) (Matthew 3:11)
    4) the baptism of Jesus Christ (Matthew 3:13-17)
    5) the baptism of death (Matthew 20:22)
    6) the baptism of pots and pans (Mark 7:4)
    7) the baptism of Moses (I Corinthians 10:2)
    8) the baptism of believers (Acts 8:36-37)
    9) the baptism of the Old Testament (Hebrews 9:10)
    10) the baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts2:38; I Corinthians 6:11)
We know that water baptism is not a condition of salvation. Salvation is God's gift (Romans 6:23) and is received by faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). The Bible teaches that when a person believes the gospel message (death, burial and resurrection) of Jesus Christ, that person is saved (when he believes or trusts that message). Romans 1:16 says, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth." We learn from I Corinthians 1:17 that water baptism is not a part of the gospel message that saves. "For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel." Here the gospel and water baptism are contrasted. Notice verse 14 where Paul the Apostle says, "I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius." Think with me! If water baptism were a part of the gospel and necessary to salvation, Paul the Apostle would be saying, "I thank God none of you are saved." This is obviously unthinkable. So therefore, we learn without question that water baptism is not part of the saving message (gospel); it is not a condition of salvation.
The two baptisms that relate to heaven or hell.
The two baptisms that determine destination are the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the baptism of fire. Jesus said, "He that believeth on Him is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God (John 3:18)." Jesus Christ baptizes all believers the moment that they believe with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ will baptize all unbelievers with fire when they are immersed into the lake of fire, hell. A believer will never experience the baptism of fire. An unbeliever will never experience the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
"For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have all been made to drink into one Spirit (I Corinthians 12:13)." The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the operation of God whereby we are placed into the body of Christ. Every child of God has it. It occurs upon belief.
The baptism in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins also occurs at the moment of belief (Acts 2:38; I Corinthians 6:11). It deals with the forgiveness aspect of our salvation whereas the baptism of the Holy Spirit deals with our placement into the body of Christ. "But ye are washed in the name of the Lord Jesus (I Corinthians 6:11)." See also Acts 10:43, "To Him give all the prophets witness that through His name, whosoever believeth in him shall receive the remission of sins." In this passage in Acts 10, the people were saved and received the Holy Spirit before ever being water baptized. Water baptism clearly came after salvation. Peter says, "Can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized which have received the Holy Spirit as well as we (Acts 10:47)?"
Water baptism comes after salvation (Acts 10:47). If you are saved and have not been water baptized since salvation, you should now testify to your faith in Jesus Christ by being water baptized. For the believer water baptism is an: 1) act of obedience to the Lord's command to be baptized, 2) a picture of the cleansing that occurred through the blood of Christ, and 3) a testimony of your faith in Jesus Christ.
Take advantage of the next opportunity to be baptized if you have not been baptized. You will be saved, whether you are water baptized or not, if you have trusted Christ as your Savior. But there is a blessing in being obedient as a Christian.
    Rob

Babies are never baptized but dedicated into various denominations and organizations and fellowships. . We only baptize believers. He that believes and is baptized will be saved Mark 16:15-20 Salvation is only found in the Lord Jesus Christ. Yes exactly, that's what I'm thinking as a borne again christian, for example in ma county there is no church how can I be baptized, christianity is not a religion you don't need a church to pray you can pray at home or in the forest God sees your faith only.

The verse that says by faith Noah built the ark. Did Noah have faith alone or did he have works with it by building the ark and preaching?

What seems apparent to me, is that every ritual that was revealed unto men.. was given because of unbelief.
Circumcision was a sign of the Covenant..
Water Baptism is also a sign of the confession of faith.
The things that matter, are the things not seen by human eyes. Belief/faith..
Yet man, being prone to idolatry has worshipped the signs/rituals themselves, not understanding their purpose. Just as man worshipped the host of heaven instead of God.. or the celestial bodies.. the works of their hands.. or the countless other things man has chosen to trust in vainly.

There was ever only one Baptist and his name was John. He is called in scripture John the Baptist. Not John a Baptist. No one else in the entire volume of the Bible was ever called a Baptist other than John. Now John the Baptist taught metanoia. And so did Jesus. Repent... And also Jesus and every apostle taught that we should repent. Believe the gospel. Two sides of the same coin. We see the Bible teaching that baptism is a figure not an element. Thank you brother and God bless you.

Wouldn't every believer be baptized? I understand baptism without faith is pointless, but i also believe faith without baptism is disobedience to the One who commanded it.
To me it seems that it is intertwine, the ones that reject baptism, their faith has to be questioned.

(Individuals talking past each other and under pressure of the moment to respond) I think that your videos are sensible in their current manner. The truth needs to be presented in a well thought out manner and as precise as we humans can muster, especially when it comes to these doctrine. I think these videos do just that.

If we BELIEVE in Jesus, we must then listen and obey him. Does he not command us at the end of Matthew to go out and make disciples of all nations, BAPTIZING them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?
For what reason would He command us to do so then if it was not vital for our salvation?

Acts 10:43-48 KJV: (43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.) They received the Holy Spirit, and THEN were baptized after. This already debunks Sam Shamoun. Hope this helps someone who needs to show someone that baptism isn't required for Salvation, and may God bless you all!
