    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Rocky (Eric Stoltz) tells his class the story of Troy and is rewarded by applause.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
This is the true story of Rocky Dennis (Eric Stoltz), a personable young man suffering from "lionitis," a fatal disease which causes hideous facial disfigurement. The son of freewheeling biker Rusty Dennis (Cher), Rocky is accepted without question by his mom's boyfriends and cycle buddies, but treated with pity, condescension, and disgust by much of the outside world. The local high school principal tries to get Rocky classified as brain-damaged so he won't have to enroll the boy in his school, but Rusty fights for her son's rights with the ferocity of a mother lioness. Rocky makes friends easily both at school and at summer camp. He also falls in love with Diana (Laura Dern), a blind girl who cannot see his deformed countenance and is entranced by the boy's kindness and compassion. Now that he's got his own life in order, Rocky sets about to wean his chronically depressed mother from her drug habit. Mask is the sort of story that might have ending up wallowing in its own pathos had the acting, direction and scriptwriting (by Anna Hamilton Phelan) been anything less than very good. The film proved a much-needed financial success for director Peter Bogdanovich, though unfortunately it didn't come soon enough to stave off his declaring personal bankruptcy.

This gives me nostalgia for when schools had windows like that. Where I live all older schools are being torn down little by little and new schools are built with most classrooms having no windows and the ones that do have tiny, high up windows. Not even the cafeterias have windows now, besides maybe tiny rectangular ones on the door.

I don't think that's what happenened in this scene. They knew Rocky knew they were looking at his contorted face but they didn't want him to think about that while telling the story because they started liking him by that point. Rocky eased the tension by not dwelling on it.

Wrong attitude to have. Anyone taking their life for any reason is a tragedy. Using your logic 5 is less than 7 so we should pretend it's just 0. One issue being "greater" than the other doesn't invalidate the lesser one entirely or exonerate it from being fixed if possible.

@@vicmorgana5516 Yes, but its not that simple. Emotions come in all different sorts, and make you either valuable or worthless, or just normal.
Now, certain emotions could break you down, while others help you to move upwards and become successful. Luck is a phenomenon that plays a good role in that.
But really, it depends on how you take those people's words into your mind, study it, and finally succumb to it.
