"Necessity is the Mother of invention" Nicely done. Not a permanent solution but, you do acknowledge that in the video...Always good to CYA...now, I'll go work on my father-in-laws washer. Thanks a bunch!
Me and my wife were totally confused. She gave up right away... I sat there with voltage tick tracer to make sure it had voltage... then I fiddled with the knobs a bit, then stuck the dingus end of my tick tracer into the lid switch hole and it started. Called my wife and said honey I think know what the problem is... its the switch... she takes up a screw driver near by jams it in and the whole thing popped backwards... welp... your bypass video helped us out to where we can at least finish the load before we replace the whole dang thing now
I just did the same thing (without this video) to my disintegrated switch(keep the ground screwed to the washer body, shouldn't need to bother it at all, it's usually a green wire. This method avoids all that unscrewing the top panel and trying to move it around. My washroom is quite cramped and the method I made up worked perfectly.
god damn dude. i had the exact same roper as you do and had the same exact problem earlier this year so i figured i'd just replace it since the machine was 15 years old or so and i wanted something "newer".. biggest mistake ever. should've found your video instead and fixed it. now i'm stuck with a piece of shit HE machine that barely washes my clothes. edit: after owning the new LG washer for well over a year now, i must say, that thing actually washes pretty damn good. it takes about twice as long, so that's a pain in the ass, but the clothes come out nice and clean and not beat up by the agitator in the middle.
My washer leaks when the clothes are rolled up in the wringer, so I often have to open my panel and often it does not work and it was the reset in the cycle.Thank you very much I will try
After I wire nutted it, I wrapped it a couple times around the still secure ground wire, felt along the path to make sure everything was high and tight out of the way of the barrel and called it good-temp
This didn't work for my washer but I learned how to strip wire, apply the cap on the wires and I understand now that this was not a plug in part, that it was saudered in like you mentioned in the comments. There is a taped area of wires up underneath that don't look good but very hard to get to. I will be draining this with my shopvac now, any tips are welcome. Thanks for your video!
Too bad this didn't fix your issue. It's always good to learn new things though. And just so you won't get in any future misunderstandings, you have the pronunciation right but it is spelled "solder". Luckily I could siphon into a nearby bathtub with a garden hose in an emergency, good luck with the shop vac 😕
@@steven_baconbits haha and that spelling looks weird, thank you! I have a basement drain but it filled up after dumping so much water down with the shop vac. So I'll give it some time and do it again, just draining slow.
Do you have any idea what the screw size is ? I somehow took the lid switch out a long time ago and configured some kind of bypass but not it's not draining somI plan to get a replacement lid switch but it doesn't appear to come with the two screws.
I don't remember and no longer have the replacement to reference since I kept the bypass after a second switch failed. Once you have the replacement maybe take it with you to a hardware store to find a match.
I'm in the same boat. I am having no luck at troubleshooting why my dryer isn't working. Both of my appliances are over 20 years old now so I think it's time for me to retire them.
On my washer the liplock has 3 wires red yellow n purple so if you purple one out the other two it work put all 3 wire it starts up the washer but want spin or drain so how do I bypass the lid lock
Sounds like you have a different style lid switch than the Roper has in this video. There are different styles so looking for a video that deals with that specific lid switch is going to be your best bet. Good luck.
I When I see their "pristine" washer knowing that mine is surrounded by cob webs, I want to tell you guys, do not feel bad about a little lint here and there because my basement is so much worse. I thank you so much for helping us.
how do you cut the wire what is the ground wire you put this wire behind how do you tape up the wire? Nothing was really clear in this video you didnt show how to do anything.
i cut and stripped the wire with a pair of wire cutters aka dykes. there is no ground wire this was just a simple low voltage switch. no taping just tucking it back into the wiring space. this was done to get the unit drained. On this washer model switch replacement requires cutting out the old switch that has soldered connections that cant be reused.
Twisted the three wires together. Plugged it in and a spark jumped from somewhere around the start and stop button. Quickly unplugged it. Think I’m gonna trash it.smh
Sarah I have a question I have a roper that thinks it's just like this model is it agitator supposed to go back and forth because I can tell mine is just going one way
Shutting the lid of my Amana today, I heard the plastic switch break. So, instead of cutting wires, I made the contact point permanent by bending the one piece of flat copper over the other. Easy five minute fix.
your very welcome, dryers are usually the same. Dont make these mods to these appliances if you have children around as these are safety features your disabling, and should properly repair once the appliance is accessible.
I was unable to siphon the water out of mine. So I bypassed the lid switch to drain it because the washer has to be moved to remove panels to get to that switch. The lid switch is a safety feature to keep people especially children out of the washer while it is running. Hope this helps and thank you for your comment.
Just do NOT buy a Roper. They are garbage. I have had this garbage for a year, A YEAR, and the lid lock does this so I have to unplug it and wait til it unlocks itself the cycles NEVER complete and stops working at the rinse cycle, sometimes the agitator doesn't spin though nothing is broken on it, and if a cycle does complete my clothes are sopping wet. GARBAGE. SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY!!!
Roper is a Whirlpool brand, and it's easy to agree they are not top of the line. Typically more affordable appliances are just older tech that's come down in price. The one I have is almost 20 years old no different than the basic washers most of us grew up with. A lid switch is a very minor problem for the age. Just like with cars an appliance can end up being a lemon and it sounds like maybe that's what's happened. It could be a problematic model and searching reviews might of alleviated that. The point of this video is not to promote or degrade a brand it's just to display an easy fix that's applicable to many different brands and models of this type of washer, and maybe others. It's a very basic switch bypass. Have a great day, Sincerely Steven.
Roper is the brand landlords buy for their rental properties. Pretty sure that's where the Ropers (the landlords) in the show Three's Company got their name.

needed this shit bruh
Great tip and easier than bypassing near the control panel. Saved having to buy a new washer!
"Necessity is the Mother of invention" Nicely done. Not a permanent solution but, you do acknowledge that in the video...Always good to CYA...now, I'll go work on my father-in-laws washer. Thanks a bunch!
Actually, this can be a permanent bypass. Especially if you keep the ground wire attached to the washer body.
Saved me from buying another washer thank you brother

I have a similar model washer. It stopped mid cycle and I was freaking out! But this totally worked and was super easy. Thank you!
happy to help!
I did this slightly different instead of jumpering at the switch I jumpered at the connector. either way works like a charm! thank you SMK-82
I wish at 1:54 the video would actually show him cutting off the plastic piece, stripping the wire, and adding the wire nut. Great video! Ty!
So i guess the wires are all twisted together?? with a insullated screw plug covering the wires

I was getting water from the weephole in the bottom basket bearing,, I snaked a little tube jammed in it up to the waste drain.
Solved.
This is my exact problem! My issue is that the wire to the lid switch assembly is really short, I have no length to work.
RIGHTTTT !!!!
you merely need to pigtail in some extra length. you can check out how to do this, it's not difficult, search on YT...best of luck
To avoid a wire exposed inside the washer I would have fed the wires through the switch hole and added the plastic connector but that’s just me lol
Corrine Herron thanks
To avoid sound like a bitch I wouldn't leave little twat comments that end in "but that's just me lol", just saying. Namaste.
then the plastic prong on the backside of the lid could pinch the wires...but that's just FACTS! lol

Thank you very much! Got me out of a jam until I could order the part
Do you need the wire cap or will just electrical tape work?
I would never recommend just electrical tape on any electrical connection.
You're a hero!!
Thanks for making it simple dude!!!

WOW un super truc et qui fonctionne tres bien :) merci beaucoup encore
What do you do with the ground ? My green ground wire is hanging there and washer still isn’t working
Mine are red white and blue. I connected the blue and red. But the washer still senses a problem with the lid lock..
Question, how did you take apart your lid switch? It just had screws in there? Mines doesn't have that and it's hard to take off
Mine was held in with two screws.

connect the same colored wires together. Red to red, black to black, white to white etc. All you're doing is completing the circuit. Hope that helps.

I do not
Great video!
thanks! I'm just getting started with doing vids so im doing simple things at first.

Only twist the matching colors together.
Red to red with a cap.
White to white with a cap, and so on.
Duct tape the wire to the wall of the washer. Those safety switches are a real pain in the behind

How do we make a permanent bypass??
Don't reinstall the lid switch. 😉
Can't the switch just be put back together?? Instead of ordering one, putting it back in?
Mine was not salvageable, so I had to get the washing machine out to get the panel off to make splicing the replacement easier.

That depends on the model, some agitators spin both ways some don't.
