Broke my washer today by forcing it open while running. Always hated the safety lock feature anyway. I have the same mechanism by the looks of it. I'll have to give this a try thankyou!
Hey chad good idea it worked for me however i wanted to make a few things more clear for folks with questions so if you have red blue and white wires the white and blue go together on one screw of the electrical switch and the red goes to the other screw however ladies there is usually a green screw on the electrical switch which is a ground screw nothing attaches to that however u could ground it but its not neccessary..Also chad was saying you have to be around when it gets to the spin cycle and that is on his unit on mine i have to flip the switch when it reaches the rinse cycle because my machine does rinse and spin in one cycle so i just wanted to be clear on that my machine is model WTW4616FW1
Jason you are actually right. I failed to mention that in the video. It's the rinse cycle that I need to switch it on. Also if you miss the time of it ..you can always just unplug it and plug it back in with the rinse cycle on and the switch on and works pretty much the same
Hey chad i also found out you can use a big magnet attaching it to the striker where the lid locks which tricks the striker into thinking its locked for future reference .Ive learned how to do so many things from youtube even fixing my own electronics its just so cool the talent ppl have to offer if ur willing to fail and learn but as of ur idea my washer is working excellent thanks bud
Thanks a lot man that's what so many videos I'm finally yours is the only one that makes sense in that works also mine didn't just quit I like haven't been able to open and close my lid when I went to so I was trying to bypass it and yeah apparently you can't just tie the wires together and go on to have to make it more difficult these days
Great Idea 💡 ! Now the industry ( because of the lawyers ) has ruined new washers … I’ve got the same problem on a brand new Wirlpool washing machine under warranty, and have temporarily “bypassed” the magnetic reed switch so as to be able to wash at home … not a happy camper at all ! Stupid dumb move on the part of OSHA ! ( Government strikes again ! )
This is similar to an idea I had. I was researching for videos showing how to temporarily bypassing this type of switch lock mechanism. I had toggle switch in mind, just didn’t know exactly which wires to tie together and which one by itself in toggle switch.
Be careful doing it on a whirlpool. I did it on my whirlpool and it went BANG and fried the control board. Little newer style. Wired exactly like this which should work fine! Guess they are on to us lol
What is it that you mention about the Spin cycle? I just did the exact same thing I got the idea from your video. The same thing happened to me I bought the lid lock on Amazon and didn’t work. So I was just wondering what do I do when I reach’s the spin cycle?
Should i try this? my lid lock is blinking on and off and i dont know if its worth it to risk blowing the circuit board vs a 20 dollar part on amazon and i kinda broke the lock trying to fiddle with it lol
Hey, This is great. I am having quite the time with my Maytag Centennial. I too ordered a new lid switch and it did not work! However, mine has four wires, red, blue, white and yellow. Do you know where the yellow wire goes in this set up? Thanks!
Hi it's been a while since you posted so I hope you see this. So I did what you said to do. It worked! But now it like it's tricky to get it to work, I have to unplug it, plug it in while in 'off' position then start the washer then flip to 'on' like really at a perfect timing or else I have to start over. Any ideas what the problem could be? P. S. My switch has red white blue and yellow. I did the blue/white on one screw, the red on the other and the yellow to the ground screw.
I tied blue and white together with a pigtail to on part of the switch and the red to the other terminal and when I threw the switch it fried my controller board!
Hey man im having this issue with my washer when i close the lid one of the clips broke so now it wont work so on the light switch do u put the blue and white wire together and screw it to the top or bottom screw of the switch? And i take it the red goes on the other screw right ? Or does the white and blue go on the ground screw?
It doesn't matter.its just opening and closing contacts. Wonder what the voltage is on those wars?hopefully 24volts. I'm gunna try once more with my second new switch. Then the B is going in storage! The ol kenmore series 70 came out of hiding and is FASTER /QUICKER than this stupid whrillpool crap.
I did same thing! Ordered another NEW SWITCH tricky rascals /lid wouldn't even close. There's answers out there for this/but hard to find? Stupid procedures to trick the machine etc
Ok so I have the same washer. I hate that freaking lock!!! My kids are smart enough to leave the damn washer alone. Anyways. My issue is no matter what I set it on, it lights up FILL & LIDLOCK then about 10 seconds later, the lid lock starts flashing and nothing happens. NOTHING. Then it won't unlock. So I have to unplug it. It was working fine. Now it's not. So I have shit load of dirty clothes and stupid washer won't work. Advice? Do you think it's the lid lock going out? If so imma do this. This is the dumbest shit ever I swear. F* new technology.
I'm sorry man. Some of these boards are different but most of the wiring is similar on most. I have wired bypassed many with no issues but maybe I have just been lucky
Bought a used unit. Would not spin. Bought a $1.99 light switch. Followed your instructions. Thank you very much.
I absolutely HATE the lid lock bull crap. It’s unbelievable. Thank you for sharing this!

Is there a certain type of switch to buy to do this bypass?
I broke mine becase the lock wouldn't unlock, and I jerked it open anyway.
Any 110 volt switch will work@@MrMartinez5476
Dude! You're the the best! I've been fighting that POS for 3 years

What's a magnetic reed switch?

I had toggle switch in mind, just didn’t know exactly which wires to tie together and which one by itself in toggle switch.
I did exactly what you said and blew the main board ,I must have other problems?
Thank you you helped me out a ton!!!
Awesome thanks, saved me stress w the wife hahah thx
Be careful doing it on a whirlpool. I did it on my whirlpool and it went BANG and fried the control board. Little newer style. Wired exactly like this which should work fine! Guess they are on to us lol
Worked marvelously
Can you just twist all 3 wires together?
That’s what I’m trying to figure out 😂
@@KasharaLester2 No i tired all 3 together and it just blinked at me. Im going to try this switch idea.
I dont get it does does it bloxl back into the board or do you like it to the lock?
What is it that you mention about the Spin cycle? I just did the exact same thing I got the idea from your video. The same thing happened to me I bought the lid lock on Amazon and didn’t work. So I was just wondering what do I do when I reach’s the spin cycle?
Bro, did you get any help? I ha e the same question
Flip the switch
Do u have video of u working on it
Awesome video
THANKYOU 🤜🤛 but blew my circuit board 🥺
An no I didn't my self , my boyfriend did it just as you said.
It didn't work. Mine blew too
Should i try this? my lid lock is blinking on and off and i dont know if its worth it to risk blowing the circuit board vs a 20 dollar part on amazon
and i kinda broke the lock trying to fiddle with it lol
Mine blinks also, wont even start a wash. Its really pissing me off this vid doesnt help one bit.
What do you mount the tge switch to?
Sorry for the slow response I just mounted to the screw on the back of the access panel
The only helpful video. 🎉
For me.
Hey, This is great. I am having quite the time with my Maytag Centennial. I too ordered a new lid switch and it did not work! However, mine has four wires, red, blue, white and yellow. Do you know where the yellow wire goes in this set up? Thanks!
Does it have a black strip on the yellow wire
@@chadrose9999 No, it is just yellow.

Hahaha talk about being handy 😂

Man sorry to hear that, mine worked fine. I had to unplug it to reset it the first time
We're do you put the blue and white one can you show me please
You have to break cycle. White and blue tie together
Hey I watch video my working but the red light on but not spinning at all
My spin cycle light won't go off and only goes off when I unplug it now it won't start
Plug it back in and let it reset maybe
How would I do this on a whirlpool mod WTW8127LCO? If can help please an I appreciate it.
❤😂❤🎉🎉🎉YEAH!!!
Where does the red wire go to?
I posted in the description of the video

What I did is just tie the blue-and-white to the top and then the Red to the bottom I don't think it really matters as long as it makes contact.
It doesn't matter.its just opening and closing contacts.

@@stevepope5484 so you just swapped washers

How many wires does your switch have?

And yet this is the only vid showing these washers. Sit your dumbass down.

So Blue and white on one side of switch and red on the other
This is for only a fix

I would give more for a good old school washer than these pieces of garbage
I hate these new pieces of junk!

Thanks for nothing... Just smoked my washer all the way.

Then how did you simulate when it checks if it actually has a lock by locking and unlocking over and over
