- The most original and powerful synth plugin I’ve come across in a long time. With both deep sound-sculpting capabilities and the ability to import your own samples within any of its 300 presets, Novum will cater to both sound design professionals and those who are just beginning their sound design journey.

After using Myth from Tracktion, and loving it, I have been curious about Novum. I could only find preset samples videos, this was the best video giving more details. Very well done. Thank you
Thanks for this clip. I've been exploring Novum as a [VST3] instrument in Max MSP and it's very versatile and deeply open towards many horizons for my aesthetic approach. And i find you clip goes deep and still remains accessible. Nice work Mister!
Did the download take forever for you too? The content files load with me already an hour, and that although the files are only 2 GB small. I'm just at 50% lol.
I love Novum! Cheers for the review Raborn! :D Tracktion make some awesome products!
I "REALLY" thought I had this week's budget for instruments purchases figured out... Then you throw me this amazing curveball! Your clear explanation of what looks like a complex interface made the sale for me - Thanks!
So glad the video was helpful Thomas!
I just love how you have a weekly budget! Good work :)
Beautiful
love the sound at 8:00
just bought it. Black friday 50% off 🤩
FANTASTIC!! thanks for sharing :-)
This sounds like it can give you a lot of abstract reality soundset type sounds. I dig it.
This synth seems awesome.
I usually stay away from synths, but this is just amazing!
This is a great review and walkthrough. I love this synth. It's name is very appropriate as it really is something new. Granular is a big part of it, of course, but there are completely new synthesis options here, most notably deconstruction of the samples into layers (it isn't just done by frequencies or volume) and the Syntify option. The tonal flower is amazing to. I'm the Bee cited in a couple of the preset names. I didn't make them, PeterV (Dawesome) did; but he had asked for samples to show what the synth could do and I sent one in that I had made. So it is rather odd to be seeing my own first name in some of these presets!
I have question about this plugin..
If I put in it a sample (in F key )
Will the plugin automatically put it in C key ? Or ?
@@mastfamastfa1256 Yes, it tunes everything automatically. I haven't heard it go wrong. I don't know what the algorithm is, though.
UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE! just used it for a theater music production - works especially well with vocal sounds...
Thank you for the great review SLR! I love the new sounds I can potentially create from it. I was looking at Abyss too but I think I 'd like to get this one too. Btw, how was the CPU and ram usage on this one?
If every sound design library we have is infinite then when exactly are we going to fully utilize them? 😂I've been buying SD libs since 2019 and I've utilized only 20% of their full capabilities. The point is, if I spend enormous amount of time study each library, I won't be able to write certain number of monthly tracks and If I spend enormous amount of time writing tracks, I won't be able to fully utilize them. Sounds like a catch-22 to me! I've been trying to find that working/experimenting balance for 3 yrs now and still can't manage it. When a new SD lib is released, I just buy it, injecting it in a project and use presets.
I really don't spend enough time with almost all of my libraries, am I the only one in this?
you aren't alone at all, by very far (I'm not including myself, though 😝 )
You aren’t alone, there’s so much amazing stuff coming out that it’s difficult to learn things deeply. Especially if, like me, you write songs, soundscapes, sing, play many instruments, produce, mix, engineer, master and flip gear.
Then double because there is software and hardware and add in social media and marketing and yeay it’s nutty.
Even just ONE thing, say piano or guitar, is a lifetime of work to master.
@@skythemusic And you're your own manager who is responsible for dealing with non-musical stuff such as sync libraries, send stems and different mixes, PRO taxform paperworks, follow up with the publisher to check if they follow up with the client to make sure he/she sent cue sheets properly to your PRO and so on. So yeah, I can say that we are the "Doing All, Master None" folks. Thanks for sharing your thought :)
So you basically purchase expensive sample libraries then. If u use just presets. Oh wow
Is this a standalone Axx or.

Im getting this! Can we use any simple like say a guitar sound?
You can load any sample. The more that is going on in the sample - texture, rhythm, harmonics, etc. - the more Novum has to work with. So, you might, for instance, layer up three or four guitar parts and try loading that. Or, you can load different samples to some slots, instead of a layer of one and the same sample. There is a huge amount it can do; but you don't have to already know how everything works in order to get great sounds. You can load your sample into one of the presets and so all the parameters of that preset get applied to your sample. I've had it a little while but I still get so excited by what it can do!
I absolutely love the synth, but! I have a feeling that there's gonna be a new 'Worst Cpu Offenders'(even for new systems!) thing happening.
One instance of NOVUM maxes out my [ late 2018 i7(6cores+6virtual) +64Gb ram ] mac mini. So, How many instanes of Novum can the M1 handle before it crahes. How does M1 stack up against the new M2pro SOC in the new mac minis?
Sample libraries are not the worst for loading the system down anymore, its these crazy new plugins... Instead of loading thousands of tracks, just see how many instances of NOVUM, or other high demand plugins, can load in the system to max it out. Someone pls do a comparison between the m1 and the new m2 mini with the m2pro soc...
...forget about 'muh 5 thousand tracks' reviews. Dont need 500 tracks when theres these crazy new synths to max out your system...
here is what so cool? but I found nothing cool
