- In this video, Mike teaches you the secret to a perfect takeaway in just 3 simple movements. The Takeaway is arguably the most important element in the swing. Without proper mechanics in the takeaway, the whole swing can be misaligned and off plane. Mike goes over three simple moves: Pressure with the lead pinky, initiating with the lead shoulder and a soft/ relaxed trail elbow.

How did this tip help your Takeaway? Let me know!
My takeaway is soo much better and swing thoughts have disappeared. Great explanation Mr. Pitt
It creates a cup in the wrist and tension in the forearm
Very interesting tip about the left hand/pinky squeeze on the takeaway. Going to try this tomorrow
You are the number one , in 10 minutes everything is clear!!
Thank you so much for that comment! It means so much
Pure gold! This is so simple yet very elegant at the same time. Subtle.
Is the drill for every club including driver
As always, Mike P keeping it simple but so good.
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication! I take that as the highest compliment! Thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@GolfPitt it’s the epitome of a good teacher. Keep up the good work and content. Wish I lived closer, and I’d swing by for some lessons.
Incredible lesson!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great lesson.
Great video, thank you. I seem to struggle to consistently get to the set position from setup. I find when I add some shaft lean at setup (hands more at the left thigh) I find it way easier to take the club back. Is this something you would teach? Thanks again! :)
Hmm, I’d have to see your set up. It’s possible that could create some more hinge but normally hands more forward at setup causes club to set low and in more… make sure from down the line the butt of club points below your belt buckle at address!
So simple to understand.....a mid handicap like myself is excited to hear your golf tips....could you do a tutorial on shaft position at Impact so someone like myself who has the shaft leaning behind the ball can learn the proper way to lean it forward....
That’s make me so happy to hear! Thank you for sharing!
I will post my favorite drill for shaft lean and impact gains!!!!
Always quality coaching
Appreciate it greatly! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
A cool concept to play with! Thanks! I tend to struggle with the opposite takeaway flaw, hands coming away from body on backswing.
Keep your hands moving over your trail toes and make sure you have a little pressure in those last two fingers in that club should pop up I. Front of the hands easier!
If the hands are getting out excessively for you, you can also throw a glove or a head cover under your front or trail arm !
@@GolfPitt legend - thank you!

Insightful video. Well done. Going to try tomorrow! Does the lead hand push down work with driver too?
Great Video,...has helped a LOT ! I still am uncertain as to what happens from the "end of the take-a-way" to the top. Does momentum raise
the connected body / arms to the top, or is it done consciously,...?
Fantastic. Thanks again
Thank you for watching!
Great Advice tips
Thank you so much, and thank you for watching!
Can This be used for Chipping and Pitching as a method or would you not Recommend it.
The perfect golf shot is all in the left pinky.
Short thumb or Long thumb? I thought I had pinch my lead thumb and index together?
Is the same set of left hand with driver
Love it

How do you get right shoulder rotation at the top of the swing-mike weir drill?🇨🇦
Well, I’m sure you’ve seen the stretch he does. I have it highlighted in one of these videos videos. I’ll see if I can find it. There was also a good video on the trail right arm below!

coach Pitt :)
How’s it going Joe!! 🧈🔪
Are you suggesting squeezing the pinky at setup or as you are starting to take the club back?
Great question! I don’t like to change pressures… the squeezes during takeaway will help people feel the club pop up. Ideally we just want the pinks and the last three fingers of left had to be a little firmer at address and through the swing. It’s just to create the leverage between lead arm and grip so as the hands stay level in the takeaway the club will naturally sets more up in front of the hands!
Thank you for watching!
A very good coach once told me “if you have the feeling of holding the club like a bird, that bird better be an eagle”
Is this the same for woods and driver? I ask because, don’t the driver set a little later in the turn
This is the question of the day! I versus a more lofted club. Just doesn’t happen quite as extreme.
