    In Australia, a lot of people, especially in rural areas, just want a basic ute that is reliable and easy to maintain. All these utes are 40k+. That's a lot of money. I wish Toyota reproduced the ln106 hilux but with coil springs and a basic 4 cylinder petrol.

    Because I mean we all love a car new, but most people don’t own a car for 1 year. Plus some of these rankings may change once dependability is added to the table.

  • @osmiumgus8025
    @osmiumgus8025 2 года назад +9

    Good grief, cup holders and a takeaway hook… your video tells us that the Ranger is a better drive on road and Hilux is better off road, but then you jump to babbling about dmax/mazda having advanced safety features and thats why you rank them in first place- but do you compare the safety features on your winner or on the others? You do not, you yammer on about obvious cabin features that all these utes now have cup holders and shopping bag hook and adequate rear legroom, then babble on about no volume nob on the touch screen (couldn’t you find volume control on the steering wheel?) and on and on about cell phone connectivity… This is the least informative comparison i have ever watched.
    As for ACTUAL discussion of safety features you claim to have influenced your ranking, you eventually mention AEB and rear cross traffic alert on the Mazda/Isuzu (but NO comparison with any competitors) and you are silent on the REALLY important issue of what spec level you have to pay for to get advanced safety features in the different brands - and this is a really big issue. As are comfort features that matter if it is a family car or used for long distance touring like elec/power seat with saved positions, adaptive cruise and lane keeper assist. Did you know you cannot get an electric driver seat in Ford unless you fork out for the Wildtrak? You don’t mention it’s only the top spec in the Mazda and Isuzu that gets this because that’s what you are driving, so you can’t be arsed to mention none of the lower models get this. How can you gabble on about these being family friendly with only manual adjustable seat? How does that work for more than one driver? I’ve just done my own comparative review of features in early 2022 and ended up with Hilux SR5 which has all the safety features of top spec isuzu/mazda (except for rear cross traffic alert and blind spot alert on side mirrors) plus an 8 way power seat (with height adjustment). For me these two specific safety features were less important than a power driver seat with height adjust, adaptive cruise, heated side mirrors (we get big frosts in winter) and heater in both front seats. If you guys want to rank based on safety features, then how about you provide comparison of that rather than yammer on about bloody cup holders.

      Navara really set the standard high especially the quad led bulbs and impressive design in ALL variants...
      upcoming Ranger 2022 just made it better with new interior...
      Navara looks old right away after a year because you can see it every time in the roads a testament that a lot of people buying it... I also got one scheduled for release tomorrow or Saturday but it seems there's another delays because they have shortage of supply (there are so many releases last December so Nissan assumed the sales will fall by January and February but the sales went high again so the supply of Navara is very low)... • @osmiumgus8025

      Nope. I was waiting for the new ranger, but they’ve just released the model specs for Australia and same issue - you have to buy a Wildtrack to get an electric adjust driver seat. Manual seat with height adjust is fine if there is only ever one driver, but if you drive long distance or share the driving it is just stupid. Cheap and counter productive.

    And again Drive, no consideration to service and parts availability. I once owned a 2014 BT50 when I could get parts from Ford and Mazda it was just OK in remote Australia. Now Mazda has aligned with Isuzu there is SFA service and parts in remote OZ. This is main reason I went for a 2021 Hilux and I can get parts from Thargominda to Tom Price to Nhulunbuy. Scores MUST be given for this so Manufacturers wake up and start spending big money on Dealer Networks if they expect owners to get out there and do what these utes were designed for. It IS a huge copout by Manufacturers to make virtually no service/spares available for likely 80%+ of OZ. But then again Drive would NEVER criticise Manufacturers would you.......

      I don't and never have stood in awe of the 3L Isuzu diesel .

      But Ive been a truck driver all my life and would never buy a D-Max .

    You'd have to be clinically insane to buy any current ute when the next generation is just around the corner which will be a colossal leap forward in every category.

    Unfortunately all of the new dual cab utes are shit! and I really cannot think of a better word to summarise them
    For a dual cab ute 2 be Good it needs the following
    An option for coil springs
    A curb weight of less than 2 tonnes
    A centre differential
    A rear diff locker
    A powertrain that builds good power fromP low RPM all the way to high RPM and allow0s the vehicle to have a top speed of over 200 kph
    Disc brakes in the rear
    A low range transfer case
    The most basic interior that is legal under today's standards
    Hydraulic power steering
    A manual handbrake NOT ELECTRIC!
    Wheel studs not bolts
    The absolute minimum of safety equipment required to gain compliance
    Manual transmission option

      Do you mean a lockable centre differential ?

    • @060racing8
      @060racing8 2 года назад

      A lockable centre differential would be good whether that be a torsion or viscous or some other type probably not an electromagnetic clutch

    • @salvxnb168
      @salvxnb168 2 года назад

      Pretty sure the v6 Amarok has all that

      A lockable centre diff is only necessary with certain types of transfer cases.

    In Europe the izusu d-max has a 1,9 liter engine instead of the 3,0 liter… Don’t think is will last as long or be as powerfull. And ofcourse Izusu don’t think that either or they would probably have used the same 1,9 down under. And with the loss of the very good 3,2 5 cylinder in the ford, is has to be the hilux!

    • @McNuggs-
      @McNuggs- 2 года назад +4

      The 1.9 is the newest developed engine. It's more reliable and more fuel efficient than previous engines. Read up some before you spew more false information.

    This review is not action based AT ALL!! On paper yeah the Lux might be on top but in EVERY test I’ve seen and every multiple car review it’s come mid pack. And there is NO WAY the new Nav beats the dmax, again on paper, but not when you actually take them 4x4 tracks.

    Well the UK version of the Isuzu D-Max is a bag of shyte, engine and gearbox have no relationship with each other, it's either flat as a turd or revving it's nuts off, and the 1.9 engine sounds like a bag of nails. The autonomous driving modes are cheap and crude, the emergency braking skids to a halt when a leaf blows in front of the vehicle, and the lane assist is just plain dangerous. The infotainment system is the most unintelligent I have ever used, can't change radio station while driving, can't open mobile phone address book while driving, can't cope with more than one telephone number when making voice activated call, and the list goes on. My old 2015 Ford Ranger 2.2 auto double cab was a much better vehicle to drive and live with every day basis.
