I've had my 2021 BT 50 XTR for a year now. I bought it new for 55k. My parents just recently bought a new V6 Ford Ranger XLT for 73k. Let's put it this way, with the 20k difference in the pricing, I've added wheels, AT tyres, bullbar, winch, custom made ally tray, a canopy, spotlights, full length bash plate, a catch can, a stainless snorkel, and other various smaller items... 20k goes a long way in terms of mods. The Ranger is beautiful to ride in and is no doubt a refined vehicle, but for 10-20k more than the competitors? I don't think it's good value for money compared to other options, unless you really want the V6 and rear disc brakes for towing like my parentals.
Heard 2 reasons for it! the tub bar was to minimize roof crushing during roll over, mostly seen in rock climbing groups.. In African countries it's for not damaging the body work when carrying logs or pipes etc.. You can put weighted stuff against it, the African version makes sense to me
The Mazda BT50 is sort of the forgotten ute but what l found interesting they share the same engine as that is in the Isuzu D max l dolike Mazdas and have owned two of them and one was a 2004 Mazda Bravo rwd ute
Hi Matt great review of the mazda BT-50. I’m currently looking at purchasing a mazda bt-50 tf xtr or the Mitsubishi tirton mr gsr. Really torn between them both 😅 what are your thoughts? Which one would you lean towards more. Thankyou & keep up the great work 😊.
Hello! If it were me personally, I would take the BT-50 - it’s a better all rounder, with newer tech. Biggest benefit of the Mitsi is the permanent 4wd, but only necessary in bad climate areas! Either way, both are a great choice 😊
Both the Mitsibishi and Isuzu powered Mazda have amongst the most reliable engines in the current ute market. Wheras the verdict is not in yet on Fords slightly modified Lion series V6 that was not a particularly reliable or long lived engine in the Landrover Discovery in 2.7 and 3 liter versions. Time will tell!
Great video. Money wise this or Navara warrior or Triton GLS. The Triton GLS is $6k cheaper. Warrior looks mean same price as the Mazda. It's doing my head in. Thanks
I pick up my 2024 bt50 extra cab 4x4 2 door in 6 weeks Yes it’s basically the same as the Isuzu however I paid $51k on road and the Isuzu is $63k on road That’s a huge price difference
After sales service on my Mrs Mazda has been excellent in comparison to past experiences with other dealers. After owning a ranger this is holding some weight in my next purchase decision. Has anyone had bad experiences with Mazda?
what are the oem bull bar daytime running lights globe t ?? what? and the indicator globe t?? what? As I'm looking at a led upgrade and not wanting to undo the plates till I get the globes.
I sold my Raptor and bought myself a GWM cannon X. It’s the best purchase of my life. I saved $50k and put that money for a deposit for another property
Driven one, doesn't compare. Underpowered, unrefined. I'm happy with my V6 RA Ranger thanks. The extra "8k" I paid is worth it. When you're dropping 60 to 70k on a dual cab, what's another 8. The niche touches of the ranger make it all the better.
Please post back once your Ranger is back from Ford's workshop. Its a known fact the V6 they shoved in it is an old Citroen, Jag, Landrover engine........known to be very very problematic. Good luck, your danger ranger will NEVER have Isuzu or Toyota reliability.😂
@@NotoriousAloosh I believe the all new V6 Ranger comes with more and better cup holders, make up mirror and an extra mirror for the driver to check out how cool he or she is looking whilst rumbling through the parking lot at the supermarket, comes in flashier colours too. In all honesty I'm hearing that it is positively addictive to drive but I buy a vehicle for the long haul, ie waaaay past warranty so I don't see the new Ford engine being the donk to take me that far.
@@NotoriousAloosh As you likely know, dealers are not going to give you a car to review a second time if you speak too much truth. I always try asking NRMA blokes (nsw road service) about a particular car, as it happens a lot of the NRMA cars around Sydney are new DMax's so I reckon doubly good for info.
Had both. Went from a 17 Hilux to a 21 BT50 and back to a 22 Hilux. BT50 was cheap and nasty. Very poor build quality inside and out, mundane interior and horrible gearbox. Bought it brand new and sold it 1 year later. Drove beautifully on the highway I will say. Hilux is outdated, it’s slow but it’s absolutely solid. Real world owner review here.
The only good thing about the Mazda is that in South Africa the thieves are more discerning. So you probably will not get you ute stolen or hijacked.Maybe because it has cloth seats and sounds like a tractor.
Agree, the journo's/reviewers quote the manufacturers' stated power and torque figures but in any performance testing the new DMax/BT50 do very well and always faster than the HiLuxe for what that is worth. The new DMax/BT50 engine is very receptive to just a mild "tune" to liberate some pony's without creating drams short or long term. Try and find the RUclips clip from South Africa on Bakkie drag race test, worth the time believe me.
Had my Mazda bt50 gt for 9 months, hate the thing. Spent 20k on mods have had it tuned, still have the emergency breaking and radar sensors are way to much. Selling for a raptor
@@stevespatrol it’s almost a completely new motor. We have no idea how reliable they are. It has a new block, new heads and new pistons. The only thing that hasn’t changed is the conrods. I’d wait a few more years to find out how reliable they really are.
@@nathangregory6653 The current Isuzu/Mazda engine is not a whole re-design or "new" engine but rather substantial updates particularly in the set up with the timing chains for better and more durable valve train performance and the new pistons for yet more efficiency etc. All points to it so far as being a better version of the engine before it without compromising long life and service simplicity.
Hilux drops injectors which lead to blown engines and also has one of the worst dpf problems known and the paint on toyota is that bad there is a class action lawsuit and they ride like crap pluss the interior is about 20 years old now
Hey guys, you need to go and drive a previous gen Ranger, much smoother and even more features. This is just like a fiat Fullback which has died a miserable death not long after it was launched…
Yep, second this. Owned a 2017 Dmax for 5 years, yes it’s the previous model but Isuzu Ute Australia hate their customers with a passion. There’s an investigative class action. I had the following problems in 5 years and 140,000km. Turbo DPF Cracked innerguards Head unit Air conditioning condenser in the firewall Blown silicone inter cooler pipe It was serviced every 10,000km. Ended up waiting a year to go to VCAT, they settled with me a week prior. Say clear of Isuzu Ute products. People be warned. John Cadogan does two good videos on this. I initiated the investigative class action
@@denislee5912 Toyota didn’t leave their customers for dead. They didn’t charge for time and replaced DPF’s. Never heard a Hilux having any of the above problems and you’ll find they’re common with Isuzu. Without a warranty the previous gen Dmax can potentially be a write off just from mechanical issues. Not the Hilux. DPF and inner guards alone are $8-10k a piece. Turbo $4k, air con $4k and so on. I was lucky my turbo lasted so long. They’re known to blow them often and the techs were surprised I was still on my first. Turbo and ac fixed under warranty

A good alternative to the D Max which I've just been told there's a six month wait for.
Or the D-max X-terrain is $65,990 drive away for the same car with more tech.
