I live in Temple also, out in the country. The tornado and hail caused some damage to our home/vehicles/RV/land/fences, but nowhere near the damage that subdivision got. There are houses without roofs, and some where their second story is gone. We were out of power for four days, but have a backup generator, and plenty of supplies stocked up.

Lamont, we live in the Texas town over. It was really scary. My husband and I were running errands that afternoon. I felt like the weather was "off" all day. The air was thick and green. I'm not that far away just across the river in Oklahoma. You're spot on about the air that day. When you've lived in the area long enough, things like that definitely stick out when you're expecting severe weather. It was a similar day Sulphur, OK. was hit. It's been an odd year with most of the big tornados popping off during the night.

Right before I got to Valley View my gps weather alert came on with a tornado warning 15 miles from me. Seeing tornado damage in pictures and videos is one thing, seeing it in person is a whole different experience, it does leave you absolutely speechless. The only way to survive is to be underground in a storm shelter. The debris that gets thrown in a tornado is unreal. Saw the damage in Birmingham, AL in 2011, the tires from a tire store were thrown over a 4 lane highway, into a subdivision, and slammed into a brick house that stopped them from going any further. My thoughts and prayers are with the people affected by this devastating event, may God wrap his arms around you.

    • @Andi.16718

You are absolutely right. I live 20 minutes north of Birmingham now. Then I lived in a small unincorporated town called Forestdale. The big one that came through Birmingham hit on Minor Parkway two miles behind my home then. There were huge pieces of metal bent like pretzels. Lost a high school friend in that storm. She and her newborn were pinned under a concrete slab. The baby survived. It was devastating. I've lived in Alabama all my life seen and been through many. It never gets easy. You just learn how to prepare and take cover. I also grew up with a storm shelter 6 ft underground. I don't have one now, but I live in central part and 9 times outta 10 it skips over us. We do have a public shelter in my town and the next one over. Prayers for those who passed and their families. 💗 🙏

@@Andi.16718 2011 was a terrible year of tornados. My husband was working in Tupelo, MS on a consulting job, I would fly down once a month and stay for a week. I'd fly into Birmingham and drive to Tupelo, 65 to 22 if I remember correctly. I had been doing this for 18 months, so I was very familiar with the businesses and homes along 65. I went down about a week after the tornado hit, I was shocked with what I saw. It was so strange driving along 65, everything was normal and untouched, and then all of a sudden it was like a line had been drawn, and you crossed it into total devastation. I stood on the side of the road on what used to be a gas station, only the floor remained, and looked down into what was a subdivision of homes, and an apartment complex. Most homes were flatten, some severely damaged, you could see clothes still hanging in a closet, a kitchen that only had the cabinets still hung on the wall, a van that was wrapped around what was left of a tree, the third floor of the apartment building was totally destroyed. On 65 the road had scrape marks, like a giant bulldozer had come through. That week when I was staying in Tupelo, one night there was a bad storm, rain was coming down sideways, then the sirens started blaring, I was scared to death after what I saw in Birmingham, luckily nothing happened. That spring the sirens were constantly going off at night with all the storms, the kids could barely stay awake in school after being woken up during the night, my husband spent most nights in a hallway in the middle of the house with a mattress over him. Tornados and earthquakes are my biggest fears, they happen with little to no warning, and no safe places to go.

I'm in Fort Worth and was watching the weather on WFAA, the storm was north of me and was going from west to east. Lived in Texas a long time and can't say I've seen the weather this bad, the whole month of May has been one storm after another. I have family in Temple which had a tornado go through several days ago. Houston also. Damage but not to this extent. As a kid, we lived in Wichita, KS for awhile where most homes used to have basements, or if you lived in the country, underground storm cellars or root cellars that functioned as a storm shelter. More than a few times, we had to utilize either the basement or the cellar. Lamont, stay safe and aware out there.

Bad thing is, they’re predicting 3-5 more inches of heavy rain this week and flooding. Going to be extremely difficult to get any cleanup done with rain still in the forecast. Not good. 2024 has not been good here in the Dallas area.

I rode my scooter to Pikes Peak from Dallas last year. I ended up in Perryton, Texas right next to the F4 tornado. It literally blew me off the road three times and I couldn’t stop laughing. I figured if I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die laughing, even though I was scared shitless😂
