  • After we were treated to arguably the greatest weekend in the history of the sport, we’re delighted to be joined on the podcast today by ex All Blacks Captain Tana Umaga, a current World Champion in ex Springbok Francois Louw & ex Welsh International Philippa Tuttiett.
We discuss everything from the; All Blacks epic victory against the Irish to how the Springboks managed to shock the home nation in their capital, and arguably most surprisingly how the Puma’s managed to fight back to knock out the Welsh. Tana opens up about why he feels embarrassed by the way people have treated Ian Foster, how he helped forge Bundee Aki’s career, why he decided to change the All Blacks Haka in 2005 and what his relationship with Brian O’Driscoll is like after that famous incident in that Lions series.
Francois takes us behind the scenes to reveal; how Rassie meticulously plans for scenarios and outcomes better than anyone in world rugby, the secrets a team needs to know to win a World Cup and how the Springboks managed to put a game plan together against the French which saw them come out on top.
Plus Philippa reveals to us why everything seemingly went wrong for the Welsh on the weekend, why she felt that the Irish’s luck was running out and how England could still have a great chance at going onto win the World Cup.
This is your definitive review & preview of all of the World Cup action, so sit back, relax and enjoy the Official Rugby World Cup Podcast, presented by Asahi Super Dry. #BeyondExpected,

Tana and Nonu. Try going through that midfield. And not only that, they were skillful too. Nice to see Flo. Go Boks

Stephen Donald said that Sam Kane tackles to hurt you. In my experience, the taller the timber the higher he runs. A real big target you can't miss. You're only interested in 6 stone rather than 18. Diaphragm up. Tackling is about changing minds. Chris Masoe was good at it. He wasn't alone. AB's need to bring this aspect of their tradition back. The secret is to keep your eyes open during the entire contact. Watch the other guy close his eyes. He's in get knocked out territory now. I watched Eben close his eyes before, during and after a contact recently. However, nearly everyone does.

Kia ora koutou katoa, Hello everyone... the calibre of talented players gathered together on this podcast is testament to amazing advancement of modern technology. Social Media Platforms such as RUclips have definitely added another feature utilised that reaches a far greater audience in every country around the world. An opportunity for others to experience the other "beautiful game" on the planet called Union.
Malo Tana, o a mai oe? He mihi mahana, he mihi aroha ki a koe, me nga kiwi katoa, kei reira i te whenua o nga tangata wi wi "Blessings and Love to you and all the other kiwis in France". I remember the first time you lead the Haka as captain, great job by the way. With all due respect to the legacy of the AB's, I've always been uncomfortable about performing the Haka in another country UNLESS, our hosts request it of us (humble) however, in Aotearoa NZ, on the land is definitely a must do. I also believe that the captain (no matter what nationality) must ALWAYS lead the Haka "Kapa o Pango" in my humble opinion, it's more appropriate to our identity in Aotearoa NZ. Noho ora mai ra (take care, farewell)... NZ to win by 20 and SA to win by 14

Stunned the Rugby World? Stunned the Northern Hemisphere, maybe. In the South we never doubted our ability.

First time I’ve heard of the origins of Kapa o Pango- Tana was All Black captain at the time and from this insight, he was clearly leading the charge to add the additional haka and it’s interesting that the younger players didn’t really get on board for nearly a year. I remember that 2005 test vs the Boks in Dunedin though. Epic test match & Tri-Nations decider, back & forth all night until the All Blacks finally won right at the end.

I am going to veer off topic a little bit here. While we all agree that we had some fantastic games between Fra vs RSA, NZL vs IRE, Eng vs Fiji and Arg vs Wal, I was most impressed by the officiating in the Wal vs Arg game. That substitute referee for me was tops, as was the TMO. Brilliant all round officiating. Very few incidents flew under the radar. What that does is, it ensures effective application of the laws of the game. We can discuss the merits afterwards, but not the application. In all the other matches there were a number of decisions (both sides) where you felt, even as a neutral, that the officiating could have been better. In that game I battled to find that. Truly exceptional.
