During the broadcast there was a moment at halftime when Jacques Nienaber gestured something drawing a line in the sand with his foot. That was the moment I knew we were gonna win. Normally I would've gone ballistic when Barnes waved playon after the knock-on (which they eventually brought back tfft) and the AB's went ahead and scored anyway, but at no stage was a worried. I felt and said exactly what Conrad did here. If the AB's went infront SA would've found a way yo come back. They pretty much stopped playing attacking rugby to just defend for most of the 2nd half.

Despite what was at stake, despite the obvious disappointment, despite the red card, despite playing like trojans…I sincerely think that the AB’s have conducted themselves so very graciously, with honour and justified dignity…this without whinging and whining. If ever there was a final result that deserved to be shared that was it. Thank you All Blacks…you’re our best competition and as sure as night follows day you will I am sure prevail in future showdowns.

Great convo gents! Red and yellow cards are really just a sign players maybe trying to hard under pressure and are pushing the limits and reacting in a way that may be unsafe. But as a rugby fan I feel the game gets ruined and unfair when a player is off for the whole game making one team having to work harder just to stay in the game. Maybe red cards could be 20 mins off? Maybe only if a player gets concussed from a poor tackle should they be red carded given the nature of the game is highly physical. Overall I felt the mental toughness of the Boks was just a bit better hence why they won, 90% of success starts in the mind, so huge congrats to them!

Then over some drinks, one guy confided that he loved playing rugby, but after getting smashed in the head, he had cognitive and coordination problems for a very long time. He'd hand in exams not realizing he had skipped half the questions! He was being a brave man about it to me, but man what a sad story. No wonder Bakkies needs to "devote his life to serving Jesus"😘Remember the fun moment he blew the opponent a kiss?😋

Let’s stop messing around and get a combined southern hemisphere team to take on a lions team and six nations teams tour. Kolisi the captain with ardie vice captain. Mounga, Jordie Barrett, will Jordan, cheslin kolbie, Telea, PSTD, Marx, all the same team. That would be one helluva team. Throw in a few Aussies to help our SH brothers out and what a treat it would be for us all. Tri nations was Is and will always be the best competition and Union ship in world rugby.
Keep in mind, yes, the AB’s had 14 for 50 mins but S.A. played with 14 for 20 mins. Also, the AB’s had a much easier game and easier pool so they came in fresher and therefore able to raise their game when they went down to 14. Not to mention, we played without a proper hooker, impacting the scrum and definitely impacting the line outs. I didn’t think the red to Cane was fair but I also think it helped the AB’s more than it hurt. The timing of the 2 yellows given to S.A. came at the worst possible time in the match with the ABs already in the ascendency.
I don't understand why everyone keeps saying the final was a great game of rugby. SA are well deserved winners but in my opinion, Yes, it was tense but was only tense because it was a final not because it was a good game of rugby and only option that was a pour advertisment for rugby. How has the TMO been allowed to go from it's original purpose for identifying foul play and assisting with the correct ruling of tries, to identify and interfering with all aspects of the game. This has slowed down the game so much it has become boring. If last night wasn't a final it would be discussed as a disappointing spectacle and that's if it would be talked about at all. If the TMO is allowed to interject in all aspects of the game, it should do so at all aspects of the game. There is no reason for the TMO, with multiple people assisting and every possible camera angle available to miss any infringements and foul play which it did during that game. Let me be clear, SA won that final and are deserved winners, NZ had plenty of change to win and didn't take them. The TMO, missed multiple infringements and foul plays from both sides and did not advantage one side over the other. However, it can not be said that the TMO did not influence the outcome of or slow down that game. If the TMO is allowed to miss infringements through human error, what is the difference with the referees missing infringements through human errors. In my opinion the TMO's involvement should be allowed for foul play, correct grounding of the ball for tries and specifically when the ref asks for it. And maybe, allow a couple of captions challenges like they do in other sports like the NFL & cricket. The use of the TMO is not working in its current form, they identify some foul play but not all, some infringements but not all and some referees errors but not all. I thought the ref was very good during the final as he rolled to the letter of the law and to his interpretation of thoughts laws. However, the influence of the TMO, and multiple instances lack of interference, did not provide him with the correct tools to do his job. On the red cards, I can not see how Sam Canes was not down graded, yes he was never in a legal tackling position but had a split to change his position once the SA player changed his direction, this also allowed no time to avoid the tackle. Therefore, that is mitigation. If this is a red card and world rugby are serious about reducing head contact, then Siya Kolisi's must also be a red card. While he was bent at the hips and made contact with the shoulder, he made contact with the head. He came from distance and hit with force yet had multiple seconds during his run to lower his body further. The AB's player was standing upright and did not lower his body position prior to the tackle nd therefore while Kolisi was bent at the hips he was never in a legal tackling position. If one is a red card the other must be a red card.

Great show. Coach of the year has to be Jacques Nienaber given their route and finding ways to win. Fav moment was RWC win. Fav moment in the video was the comment that SA wpuld have changed their play to score tries (and still find a way) had NZ kicked the goal

Despite what was at stake, despite the obvious disappointment, despite the red card, despite playing like trojans…I sincerely think that the AB’s have conducted themselves so very graciously, with honour and justified dignity…this without whinging and whining.
If ever there was a final result that deserved to be shared that was it. Thank you All Blacks…you’re our best competition and as sure as night follows day you will I am sure prevail in future showdowns.

Great podcast….you have been so fair and objective . THANK YOU . I trust you will be doing it again in Oz ( do they really deserve a RWC? ) in 4 years time. I agree 100% about the folly of the red card for Sam ….such a decent man . I trust that this incredible performance of Boks whilst changing the game plan from running to “ real” rugby when needed , will change the “ boring “ remarks from pundits like ( I hate the Boks even if my remarks are laughable ) Matt Williams . So sad that so many losing captains are blaming referees ….whilst SA over the years have realised , we do not get the benefit of 50/50 referee calls , but have learned how to win despite referee decisions . Also believe that the rules are making it so difficult to officiate a rugby match …we need to be careful in criticising referees …we need them for this beautiful game . I have been watching rugby since the 1955 Lions side toured SA and can recall every player and score of the 1956 tour to NZ whilst listening with my dad in early hours in Cape Town…as Conrad summed up so nicely ….I “ love and hate the AB’s “….but how can anyone who loves rugby not admire Colin Meads , Brian Lahore , Dan Carter ( what an awesome human being ) , Jonah and so many more immortal AB’s . Once again love you ….love your podcast and love the great players on your programme . Great convo gents! Red and yellow cards are really just a sign players maybe trying to hard under pressure and are pushing the limits and reacting in a way that may be unsafe. But as a rugby fan I feel the game gets ruined and unfair when a player is off for the whole game making one team having to work harder just to stay in the game. Maybe red cards could be 20 mins off? Maybe only if a player gets concussed from a poor tackle should they be red carded given the nature of the game is highly physical. Overall I felt the mental toughness of the Boks was just a bit better hence why they won, 90% of success starts in the mind, so huge congrats to them!

I made some wonderful new pals while watching the final. Then over some drinks, one guy confided that he loved playing rugby, but after getting smashed in the head, he had cognitive and coordination problems for a very long time. He'd hand in exams not realizing he had skipped half the questions! He was being a brave man about it to me, but man what a sad story. No wonder Bakkies needs to "devote his life to serving Jesus"😘Remember the fun moment he blew the opponent a kiss?😋

@@smoothoperator1862 yes, dont forget sa had their setbacks to. Losing our last hooker 3 mins into the game messed up SAs game plan and it showed in lineouts and scrums. I must say the ABs were absolute machines to keep sa tryless with a man down. Something snapped in the with the red card and went beast mode. I must say ardie is a legend.

Let’s stop messing around and get a combined southern hemisphere team to take on a lions team and six nations teams tour. Kolisi the captain with ardie vice captain. Mounga, Jordie Barrett, will Jordan, cheslin kolbie, Telea, PSTD, Marx, all the same team. That would be one helluva team. Throw in a few Aussies to help our SH brothers out and what a treat it would be for us all. Tri nations was Is and will always be the best competition and Union ship in world rugby.

Keep in mind, yes, the AB’s had 14 for 50 mins but S.A. played with 14 for 20 mins. Also, the AB’s had a much easier game and easier pool so they came in fresher and therefore able to raise their game when they went down to 14. Not to mention, we played without a proper hooker, impacting the scrum and definitely impacting the line outs. I didn’t think the red to Cane was fair but I also think it helped the AB’s more than it hurt. The timing of the 2 yellows given to S.A. came at the worst possible time in the match with the ABs already in the ascendency.

I don't understand why everyone keeps saying the final was a great game of rugby. SA are well deserved winners but in my opinion, Yes, it was tense but was only tense because it was a final not because it was a good game of rugby and only option that was a pour advertisment for rugby.
How has the TMO been allowed to go from it's original purpose for identifying foul play and assisting with the correct ruling of tries, to identify and interfering with all aspects of the game. This has slowed down the game so much it has become boring. If last night wasn't a final it would be discussed as a disappointing spectacle and that's if it would be talked about at all.
If the TMO is allowed to interject in all aspects of the game, it should do so at all aspects of the game. There is no reason for the TMO, with multiple people assisting and every possible camera angle available to miss any infringements and foul play which it did during that game. Let me be clear, SA won that final and are deserved winners, NZ had plenty of change to win and didn't take them. The TMO, missed multiple infringements and foul plays from both sides and did not advantage one side over the other. However, it can not be said that the TMO did not influence the outcome of or slow down that game. If the TMO is allowed to miss infringements through human error, what is the difference with the referees missing infringements through human errors. In my opinion the TMO's involvement should be allowed for foul play, correct grounding of the ball for tries and specifically when the ref asks for it. And maybe, allow a couple of captions challenges like they do in other sports like the NFL & cricket. The use of the TMO is not working in its current form, they identify some foul play but not all, some infringements but not all and some referees errors but not all. I thought the ref was very good during the final as he rolled to the letter of the law and to his interpretation of thoughts laws. However, the influence of the TMO, and multiple instances lack of interference, did not provide him with the correct tools to do his job.
On the red cards, I can not see how Sam Canes was not down graded, yes he was never in a legal tackling position but had a split to change his position once the SA player changed his direction, this also allowed no time to avoid the tackle. Therefore, that is mitigation. If this is a red card and world rugby are serious about reducing head contact, then Siya Kolisi's must also be a red card. While he was bent at the hips and made contact with the shoulder, he made contact with the head. He came from distance and hit with force yet had multiple seconds during his run to lower his body further. The AB's player was standing upright and did not lower his body position prior to the tackle nd therefore while Kolisi was bent at the hips he was never in a legal tackling position. If one is a red card the other must be a red card.
