South Africa also had their game plan thrown into turmoil. They had to play without an actual hooker on the field for 78 minutes and 2 yellow cards in the game. Bottom line is both teams had to improvise, adapt, adjust to something unforeseen & only one could prevail as victors.

The hooker thing was their own decision -no one else's fault. The injury to Bongi was an accident.I saw Frizzell being push by a Boy and landed on his leg. This was an accident and did not deserve a yellow card. The things that happened weren't Barnes fault. Far too much effected by the TMO.

@@larrytasker7043It was the Sprinboks descision to have only one specialist hooker in the matchday 23. It was Frizzel's descision to try and rip Mbonambi's head of whilst falling on the wrong side of the ruck and landing on his leg. Should have been a red card as Nigel Owens and many other ex refs have said. The Springboks played against the team with the most cards in the tournament (no discipline),without a hooker who went of because of foul play, and still won. As a South African, i feel very aggrieved. We've done something incredible, and all we've heard from the last three weeks is talk about refs. Yes, there were calls in all those games that went our way. But therwere calls that Saffas would argue went against us. In the end, France, England, and the ABs lost because they missed chances to score. That being said, we missed chances, too. The reality is those three teams were all lost because they did not capitalize. Blame the ref all you want. I know we have in the past.
I hope rugby does sort the rules out. They are too complicated to ref in real time. And rugby is a contact sport. Unless a hit is egregiously bad, then it shouldn't be red carded. It's rugby. it's a contact sport. The players know what sport they are playing. Either accept the risks or dont play...
I do want to Comend on the ABs players. In defeat, they have been the most gracious i have seen out of anyone. Not like the Enlish 'kants' who ripped their silver medals off their necks the second they walked off. May the relivalry continue to continue. May Razor take you to new levels and the boys' new coach the same.

@RicksPhatPharm-vw2lb 100% this is not league. It union. People want to see set piece, they want to see the big forwards. It's a game for everyone, the small, fast guys, and the big, strong, slow guys. I do hope the rules become less complicated, but the game fundamentals should not change.
It's typically, though. When you are on the top step, the world is going to come for you. It's the reality of all sport.

      @matakitaki1 11 месяцев назад +2

I agree ABs had a chance even a few but didn't take them. Sure the ref made blunders but you have to play them out of the game by having bigger margins in points. Some of the rule changes don't help the game but they are the rules and you have to create a game plan to accomodate.
Congrats SA the effort it took to get you there and finish the job is a lesson ABs need to have a good look at.
Does NZ need to change the DNA, nope!
Were conditions more favourable to SA maybe.

That cost SA more than the ABs as they had to play 77mins with a reserve hooker when they were clearly planning for a forward/set piece dominated game. That went out the window 3mins in and I can't recall the Boks being awarded a single scrum or maul penalty in this game, yet they managed to adapt and dig deep. Rassie signed an extension on his contract till 2025 with the option to extend to 2027. SA will have a huge talent drain after this WC as their players are oldish. SA are also notorious for dipping after a WC victory, so they need him to steady the ship and get the new talent through.

I think this is a bit overplayed. Only Vermeulen, Fourie are out an out retiring. 6-7 of the others have at least 2 years left. All the 29-31 year olds have another 4 years left barring injuries but might not cope with playing 3 weeks in a row. But certainly squad will need at least ~10 new faces by 2027. With smart coaching making a powerful defence of the next RWC is entirely possible.

Now the AB's know what the French might have felt in 2011, losing a final by one point is tough to take. So many "what ifs" in this final, both teams missed try scoring chances. Losing Bongi Mbonambi after a couple minutes was exactly Boks worst fear and that's what made the game so close. I believe in those conditions the Boks would likely have had greater set piece dominance had their hooker stayed on the field. Because the guts, defence and intensity from Boks would still have been a factor in the game.

In terms of several replays the TMO was correct everytime.
The AB's played 40m more with 14 players than the Boks.
    A red of 50 minutes game time and yellow vs 2 yellows = 60 less 40 = 40.
The Bok discipline during the tournament caused them to give away less cards. In the quarter round they received their first yellow. This was obviously a strong focus in their preparation.Teams must obviously plan in terms of the laws in the game.Did the Bok coach coached this better?
Nevertheless World Rugby should find an answer as spectators would like to see 15 vs 15. Cards should not be an "additional" player which can win or lose a game.

Onto the tournament itself...This was a final that we have all been waiting for from a SA/NZ perspective. As a spectacle it was not a great match BUT it was final after all. New Zealand gave it their all and for them there was very small margins between winning and losing. South Africa came in to the final after massively hard matches in the group matches AND in the knockout phases. Before the final, because of this we were not given a big chance of winning. Have a look at this; Scotland (huge); Romania (easy); Ireland(lost - huge); Tonga (physical); France (huge 1 point); England (huge 1 point); NZ. Despite the schedule, South Africa withstood everything that was thrown at them and WON..We are deserving winners and I believe that very few nations would be able to do what we did. We played the opponent in front of us every time...we asked for no quarter and gave nothing in return. We are the champions!

Kiwi have. Canes tackle going by book was100% a red. Kolis was a yellow. But Eban was a yellow for lazy running back and a yellow/red for leading with forearm/elbow to head in tackle. If we have to protect attacking players from getting hits to the head. We also have to protect defending tacklers getting hit in the head from elbows to the head. But that's not the reason we lost. The bar i was watching everyone was screaming at tv when Jordie kicked to the corner instead of taking the easy 3 points that would made it 14-12. Everyone knows in tight games you got to take the points. Especially if it puts you in the lead in the final.

Martin. We did play well. What a terrible thing to say. We did excellently. We out win then with scrums (winning one more than they did). We won more line outs. We broke more tackles, made more metres. We beat them in every metric.
The referees decided this match. Stop it man.
Now don’t get me wrong. I love the bokkies and I’m actually happy with this outcome for what it does for a nation. They need it more than we want it.
Forget the unfairness of the red card.
    Check this one out.
    Another Wayne Barnes (referee) error
Time on the game clock is the 17th minute and 40 second in the first half.
Barnes: (calls a penalty on Ardie Savea in the all blacks) ‘Clear release please. You went down on the player. On your knee’
(Rules state that you have to release someone completely after you tackle them, before going in to steal the ball. Also be keeping your own body weight up and not lean on other player or the ground to support your body weight)
Barnes: (sees the replay on the big screen of Ardie Savea keeping his own body weight up, not kneeling on the ground and clearly releasing the attacker)
Barnes to Ardie: ‘Sorry mate I didn’t see the replay. Um, I thought you stayed on him, I didn’t see you come off enough’
    Ardie: ‘so that was alright’.
    Barnes: ‘yeah’
    ---------
Basically, Barnes is admitting to a mistake, then lets the conversion (3 points) go ahead.
    Hmmm.
    Kinda strange.
What a carnt thing to do by Barnes. What a shame that he tainted the win by the mighty bokkies, making their winning of a World Cup very questionable indeed.
Go back and watch it your self.
    Watch from the 17th minute.
    Tell me if I’m wrong.

Cane a red card and Kolisi a yellow card. No complaints from me. Frizzell took the Bok hooker out of the game with foul play. So it evens up. The ABs had their chances to win and didn't take them so good on the Boks.

@@nepiahemopo1702 Frizzel had Bongi around the neck for a roll and then fell on his knee. Players are not supposed to go off their feet in a ruck, it's an illegal clean out to roll a player round the neck using your own body weight with a deliberate fall. Reckless and dangerous foul play. Could have been a red card in my opinion.

Frizell illegally injured a player out of the game. I don't hear many ABs fans and critics mentioning this.@@nepiahemopo1702

So sad that a red card gets so much attention when Wayne Barnes has taken so much emotional abuse .

I do think cane was unlucky, and no blame there,
    But the tmo...
    Was interfering.
The Aaron Smith try went through 5 phases before being called back.
Tmo is only allowed to go back 2 phases.

I don't mind the TMO, as long as the right decision is being made.

Leinster the defence transfers with JN to Leinster. Typical of RugbyPass.
