30:40 "... who you got, I got Jonah, no don't do that look at Randall instead." Smit coming up with some bangers man, great podcast indeed, making these gladiators out as human beings - well done.
John Smit is an absolute legend. The biggest, strongest and most powerful men I've ever seen in a place like Westbury even say that John Smit fights for his country and that's a big deal to the general public. I hope we focus in that SA vs NZ contest and we get that historic fourth.
True class from the best 10 in the game of rugby ever. I would love for the Boks to win this final but honestly I wont really mind if the AB's take it. The only other team I truly have love and respect for. Respect from a Bok supporter
I'm a Saffa and obviously my blood is green. In a way, as defending champs we're entirely respectable because we're now actually at the point we need to be to "defend" the title in the final game. In a way - job 99% already done. Boks have now made it to 4 finals and we're the only team (thusfar) never to have lost in a final. Let's hope that stat is upheld but if the AB's win it then it will be because our oldest adversary was the best team on the day and the cup stays south of the equator.
Hi, we should have more videos of players getting together after the game and the friendships created. We as spectators just see the “fight” and we think you always want to kill each other. Well done for this. From a South African, may rugby friendship’s grow. Great game coming up.
The truth is that I will be a gutted bok supporter if we lose the final, but losing to the mighty All Blacks is not something we will need to feel ashamed about. As an armchair observer it seems like the boks might have already emptied their tank with those tough games against Ireland, Scotland, Tonga, France and even the Poms were a tough opponent, the AB's have only had 2 tough games and could very well have more energy than the boks in the final. Hoping that Jacques and Rassie can pull a few tricks out the hat for this one. Finally a big thanks to Jacques from bok supporters for the role you played in giving us something to be proud of again and all the best for your new venture in Ireland, it's going to be hard for us if you end up coaching another team against the boks though, but somehow it sort of feels inevitable.
Lol, John smit said exactly the same as my comment above re how much the boks still have left in the tank, will they be able to perform at 8000 RPM for another 80 minutes? Go bokke!! 💥💣🥳😁
Great chat from these legends. As a Saffa, I really don't know who will win. It's going to be a close one down to the last minute. I'll need meds to get me through the game.
I agree with Ben. NZ are on the way up. Had an easier pool, and easier team in the Semis. South Africa looked tired against England. Brutal Pool for SA, then Brutal forward game vs France and England. Hope the SA forwards have one more big game in them.
They’ll be up for it. This South African team are bloody good and New Zealand are going to have to throw everything at them, including the kitchen sink and mother in law to stop them. 🤞🏻the All Blacks win, but jeepers its going to be hard.
The best set of interviewee's so far! Dan Carter is still such a legend. John Smit's stories are the best! Favourite part was the best peeps to go for a beer afterwards.
South africa really have had to do it the hard way, even the NZ Ireland game wasn't as intense as SAs last two games, if SA win it itll be the most impressive tournament win in the strongest and and tightest RWC ever.
stfu🤦♂️.. They've made easy games look hard by not being good enough. England should have been an easy match, just lucky they're not back home load shedding.
Dan Carter. Legend. In the 2003 RWC, I always felt that this young guy was super confident and talented. Told Mitchell to pick him ahead of A Mauger vs Australia! Mitchell...given more stick by me, than I Foster who at least has taken on board plenty o learnings. Go AB's. Books are a credit. Tough.
As a kiwi I can honestly say, I believed it could happened, after we lost to France it just solidified it for me, I could see we weren't gonna play SA in the quarters and just wished we had them for the finals
Brilliant ...I think the home pressure on the boks is also massive in NZ..there is no doubt NZ will feel pressure before the game from home.... I felt the NZ vs Ireland game as the turning point, and I suspect SA fed off the NZ win when playing France.
Thank you so much for the podcast and in particular having the opportunity to witness these famous rugby players having a casual chat about their experiences.
PSA: Review the final scrum from the initial angle, English TH side. Fix your eyes on the far side of the tunnel. Observe Eng LH knee go down to ground. Observe that this is what turns Koch inwards. Observe the knee lift just before put-in. Observe the scrum then go sideways in a manner that only the LH could effect, on account of physics and elementary vector maths. BOK got that one spot on. English LH gambled, and lost.
10% of the worlds population, 9th Southern Hemisphere win coming up. Happy 10th Worldcup! I am no statistician but thats 90% and 3 times runners up and 7 times 3rd place. Thats a truck load of medals🎉.
I have watched all great All Black and Springbok teams since my mum used to wake me up at 3am in 1949 to listen to all important provincial games and of course the four tests which ABS lost. But pulling on any jersey (even my first under nine years 7 a side school jersey) changed my whole personality and character - and killer instinct and brutal physicality stayed within me throughout the tournament. I was an AB throughout the five games of the tourney. Go ABS - your phenomenol camaraderie, superb fitness, three dimensional thinking and sheer. speed will win the day.
Is this gonna be the last pod for this RWC? Jeez I really enjoyed listening to you lads. Such a great setup with a couple of greats of this sport we love so much and just have a chat.

The SA boys have had a much tougher road to the finals, my question is - will they have the physical game to make a 3rd grand win in a row. NZ have made it to this point relatively easier than SA and common wisdom suggests they will be fresher and in better nick to take on their arch rivals. As we know, anything can happen on the day but given context, it is almost harder to pick SA to win the finals - they would have to be an understandably fatigued team. And if they do win this weekend, they will be deserved and worthy victors. Still, my heart is with the ABs - they will take this and give Fossy, the exit he deserves..... My head and my heart have come close to alignment in the clash and I am glad to say, ABs to the end...!!

As a bok, Dan Carter such an impressive bloke and ambassador for NZ & ABs
Carter is a legend - Even in SA, he was always seen as a hero to many young South African backs
Much respect for Dan.
As John, they are two true heros in their own right.😊
