Agreed even as a commentator he was very balanced in outlook and not as biased as the other commentators. Great sense of humour as well - doesn't take himself too seriously. He was a great player too but we will forgive him for it. Whenever he was playing instead of Kelleher I knew we had a proper game coming because he was rugby smart. Kelleher was just strong. When Kelleher was playing I breathed a sigh of relief.
That was a bloody awesome podcast and interview! John Smit has a great sense of humour and Justin is seriously like an honorary citizen of South Africa, his respect and knowledge of our culture is admirable! And that’s why this is the most amazing and beautiful game on the planet! I really enjoyed watching that.!!!!
Best interview yet. Smit is a legend, and Marshall knows it. Deflated the usual Justinarrogance. “I ate myself into rugby” is a classic line that all forwards can identify with. Smit is still massive, filling that little sofa. Great sense of humour. His braai explanation was bang on. If the conversation is flowing, more wood goes on and more beer comes out. Anyone who has experienced a real South African braai can relate. Nothing like it. The behind-the-scenes stories were epic. Well done.
Not sure there’s better entertainment these days than a bunch of ex rugby players just sharing stories and knowledge of the game we all love … great episode lads, John Smit’s a great laugh, his chemistry with Marshy is phenomenal
I Thouroughly enjoyed the banter and the stories in this episode! Justin Marshal - you are propper legend and welcome anytime for a BRAAI ! John Smit thanks for sharing "inside Kamp Staaldraad" loved the humour! Best interview I watched in a long time. Strongs Rugby Fans!
I was at that 2007 Fiji Quarter Final... I sat behind the posts where Butch James scored that crucial try. I will never forget that mix of disbelief and fear that the Springboks were going to lose to Fiji... (that was what it felt like, because everything Fiji did turned to gold, and 90% of that crowd was behind them... it felt like this unstoppable tsunami of emotion)... and then the HUGE relief when Butch scored that try. I could see the gap opening in the Fiji defensive line and started to scream and point... and at the same time he also saw it and went for it. That visual of his eyes moving to the gap and bursting through there is burned in my mind forever. So it was so interesting to hear John Smit's side of that story! Now I understand why they suddenly turned things around.
Not just any wood for a "BRAAI", it has to be hard dry Bushveld Acacia wood, where the coals last long. Awesome podcast & loads of respect to NZ from SA.
Great interview...legendary lads. Justin and John has a great friendship 😊. Marshie is greatly respected and loved in south africa 🇿🇦. We should give Marshie citizenship.
oh man..I remember2007...in a packed bar during the finals..a girl named ehm...well she had a name...what an afternoon that was...woke up the next morning in a strange bed, a lady snoring next to me and a german shepherd named Moscow staring me in the face with a semi annoyed grin on his face.. (he had a bronze tag dangling from his collar)
We did this same camp when I was 16 and in the boys scouts. They properly fucked us up. No food as well, one day we accidentally discovered the canteen and just helped ourselves, needles to say we paid the price.
John Smit, not the best ever Nr2 but what a captain he was my father is a die hard Blue Bulls supporter and he rates Smit as one of the best captains of all time
Honestly what bothers me is the glorification of drinking in all these rugby podcasts...boys i know its a laugh but its a short cut to every auto immune disease under the sun. Then the fun n games is over for good.
@@jksinorbitClose.... im over 50....but i have my head in the right space...also im a biochemist and ecotoxicologist so i know the dangers of chemicals and their effects on lives...
As a rugby and bok fan, i will watch anything Justin Marshal is on. Mans man, proper!

One of the best episodes...loves the stories of the camps from both
There are few sports if any, where the participants play like gladiators on the field and then sit down with a beer and laugh tears. Wonderful!
Best episode ever, John Smit is quite the storyteller
John Smith the Legend, what a leader and still humble man, rugby is lucky to have him for sure !
We went from John the man to Siya the quota… how we have fallen
@@Trenchwarsoldier-x5v fuck off with your disgusting comments - if that is how you view Siya you must be dumb as a box of rocks. Dickhead.
@@Trenchwarsoldier-x5v Siya is an even better leader than Barney. Pity that losers like you cannot see it. Shame.
Modiba was just something else man. Amazing

Brilliant banter and such a fantastic explanation of a braai and “nou nou”. John Smit is a fabulous storyteller. Great captain! Loves a laugh!
My favorite episode 🎉
What a great chat. Relaxed, informal, funny and entertaining. Well done.
I genuinely enjoyed this interview. Super casual and full of history
Proud to be South African 🇿🇦
Absolutely hillarious! Couldn´t stop laughing. Love these interviews with legends sharing their stories. John and Justin, always great entertainment.

Best episode yet. Love Justin Marshall and John Smit is just fantastic!
Love this man❤
Great episode. Really enjoyable chat. Love that and John Smit has a great sense of humour.
That was a cruel intro, Andy! Poor Marshy😂😂😂
Listen guys, “braai” and “frozen beef patty” don’t go together in the same sentence. Poor John didn’t know what to say.
Loved this episode such good banter.
Three legends, two Kiwis and one World Cup Winner 😂. Best opening ever.
Great show guys
This was incredible. Thank you so much.
John's Madiba stories are classic! What a great episode.
As we don't have a 9 coach let's bring in Justin
Not just any wood for a "BRAAI", it has to be hard dry Bushveld Acacia wood, where the coals last long. Awesome podcast & loads of respect to NZ from SA.
Fantastic conversation for any rugby fan.
Also, John Smit is our least famous World Cup winning captain but the most interesting storyteller and down to earth lekker oke.
Brilliant.
Cheers from Namibia with a brannas and a braai. Hardekool braai. Lekke episode.
Fantastic guys.
Awesome interview
Now that was a lekker episode 👊🏾
Beautiful chaps! 🤣🤣🤣
Classic: ' ate myself into rugby'
Awesome Awesome Ep
Love the intro on marshal
Bloody hell this was great!
Great conversation. Lekker Namib hardekoel.
You didn’t win a RWC but you owned The Grumpy Moooole 🔥 what a spot! 4:20
Brilliant chat
Love Marshie...Lekker Bru..
The fact that they said you can braai on anything is the moment John judged them😉
Great show
Great episode
Mike Catt played fly half for England v SA in the 2007 group stages. Andy Farrell played inside centre.
Thanks for info.So that may be why Andy got Mike as asst coach for Ireland.
And Owen Farrell also lost to South Africa in a RWC.
We could have been sitting next to Roger Federer but he found the buffet 😂😂😂😂
Justin is an okay kind of guy.
He was like Zinzan Brooke and SeanFitzpatrick everyone just hated him back in the day because of his over confidence on the field.
Great interview...legendary lads. Justin and John has a great friendship 😊. Marshie is greatly respected and loved in south africa 🇿🇦. We should give Marshie citizenship.
Marshie’s accent is better than the Boers. Legend
Huh

Marsh is probably the rugby podder of the year...Capetown
John Smit, not the best ever Nr2 but what a captain he was my father is a die hard Blue Bulls supporter and he rates Smit as one of the best captains of all time
The pissing egg boiling trick really, really confused Andy. He looked very concerned. 🤣🤣🤣
Honestly what bothers me is the glorification of drinking in all these rugby podcasts...boys i know its a laugh but its a short cut to every auto immune disease under the sun. Then the fun n games is over for good.
you must be under 6 foot...we in SA braai and drink...it only becomes a problem when other people have a problem with it
@michaelaldan6969 you must be under 50 because that's when the problems really set in

Great show
