- I love extreme range shooting and the HTI is one of our flag ship rifles that we developed at Desert Tech. It is insanely accurate, mobile, and multi caliber. Join us for a deep dive into the story about why the HTI was created.
At Desert Tech we love firearms innovation, we are always going against the grain and bypassing traditional designs. We are always doing amazing and fun stuff on the range and hope you enjoy this video!

For anyone who hasn’t shot much with a monopod or even a rear bag, it’s hard to express what a game changer it is. Try it at your local range, it really does feel like cheating. The challenge now becomes nuance like parallax, wind reading, dope, etc. it opens up a new world of factors to focus on. Very frustrating to have a business plan pocket vetoed over politics, but great to see DT overcome. Ukrainian snipers seem to be setting distance records monthly right now, and are big fans of the platforms.
I wish you guys great success. I love seeing companies innovating instead of selling glock and AR15 clones. HTI, quattro the new WLVRN need more love.
The HTI and WLVRN are on my list this year
I would love to see a complete Trek-22 rifle as the second generation.
Maybe work with Fletcher and their open top 11/22 to make it easier to clean, plus a metal rail for a more rugged zero.
Beautiful design AND so modular with THREE barrel types thats a BIG PRO and so precise! i Fell in love with it in the fight simulator Arma 3 game pretty real time with ACE mod including rain, ariolis effect (butchered the name i know ENG not my main language) wind etc. With the 375 its a BEAST!
*Desert Tech* Bravo well done, thank-you sir for taking the time to show us. GOD Bless.
I do LOVE the HTI. Everything you need and more from a high-powered, high-precision rifle, and no extra nonsense.
I don’t find the recoil on my hti 50 that bad at all no muzzle rise it recoils good straight back I spot my shots easily at distance with mine it’s all about recoil management.
@DesertTechUT I bought a HTI in .50 BMG about a month ago. Love the design of the rifle and can't wait to test it out and develop a load for it. Unfortunately the rifle had an issue with light primer strikes right out of the box and after a trip back to the Desert Tech warranty department the rifle still has issues with the firing pin protrusion being less than .045". Hope that we can get this resolved soon! Awfully frustrating for such an impressive system.
People forget that .50 BMG was designed for machine guns and not precision shooting, cheytac is doing some great work designing long range big bore cartridges.
The problem isn't that it was designed for machine guns-it's that it was designed for machine guns over a hundred years ago. The US military supposedly wants to adopt a machine gun in a high ballistic coefficient magnum rifle caliber like 338 Norma Magnum, that would meet or exceed 50 BMG ballistics with much lighter guns and ammo.
And nothing delivers AP capability at extended ranges better than the 50, a happy mistake....
I'm sure that at least another one exists.
Voere has 2 big bore models with switch barrel capability the x4 and the x5. The x4 accommodates cartridges in the 300NM-408CT range while the x5 does the cartridges with .50BMG bolt face diameter (.416 Barret, .460 Steyr, .50BMG).
The Barret MRADELR is also a switch-barrel. Barret only offers it in .416 Barret but you could have barrels with different chamberings and change them around in theory.
The same thing goes for the AI AX-ELR. Only offered in .50 BMG but theoretically can accept barrels in different calibers with the same switch-caliber system found on other AI offerings.
There also should be something in the REALLY big bore department. Denel offers an anti material rifle that can be switched between 20mm and 14.5mm.
Anyway, the HTI is the coolest one in my opinion.
Thanks for the insights! 👍🏻
@@DesertTechUT Glad to have been useful.
Just to be clear, when I say HTI I mean the Desert Tech HTI and not HTI as in the Italian company that claims to be offering a switch caliber sniper rifle that apparently noone has ever seen.
Do you guys build left handed models?
I didn’t see it as an option on your website but didn’t know if it’s something you do on special requests.
Also great video, cool to see the history behind these things!
Not at this time
I'm a lefty and the hti is perfectly comfortable aside from having to take your head off the gun to cycle, not a big deal though.
it would be neat if you guys partnered with tacom to get a line of structured barrels for your HTI.
Looks great i like it
Wow!! cool firearm.
I believe it takes some time for that Bull pup design to come around.
It's about time Desert tech came out with a round named after the company how about 375 and 408 desert tech,😊
Use the 50bmg case necked down to either 375 or 408 or both,
That should actually be pretty easy and use almost no new parts just a design change of the barrel and I true desert tech style it would only be a barrel change,
Also think of the benefits the the high bc 375, 408 and maybe the 416 would get from the extra case capacity from to 50bmg case,
And the benefits of the bullpups design would make having an even longer barrel much more practical.
Great rifle and you are a great company! With allies like USA who needs enemies. To embargo Georgia while it's being invaded by Russia! that worked out really well.
Yup that was sad to see.
awesome
do you have plans on semi auto 50cal or cheytac?
also why rear part of the stock is open? i mean part where bolt going
Wow
Any thought given to a small frame SRS equivalent to complete the triad? The popularity of the AR15 and so many calibers designed around that magwell would make for an interesting ultra light, ultra compact bolt action. I have a 16” Q Fix at the moment but in general handling it’s so front heavy it feels less handy than even my 22” SRS. I guess the MDR/WLVRN fill that niche a bit but having something even lighter and more accurate as a bolt action would be incredible as a backpacking rifle.
Was disappointed to find out the 308 wlvrn is releasing at 2700 instead of the 2500 the 308 mdrx. Figured with the reduction of parts it would stay similar price
It's so hard to get barrels. Do you keep any in stock on the DT website or is their a lead time for you guys too?
We have them in stock most of the time and when we are out then its usually only a week or two before the next batch shows up.
😱😱😱
I know someone who accidentally sat on a monopaud and he had to have hemmeroid removal.
LOL!!!
Do you guys sell that on gun laser bridge? I have one of your mounts and would love to mount a vortex impact to it
No it is a prototype we made long ago
The extensions for these barrels how do we buy them and would it fit a structured barrel
deserttech.com/hti-custom-barrel-kitacc0208.html yes it will fit a structured barrel as we tested them previously, you'll have to let the know it is going in an HTI though.
@@DesertTechUT thank you very much for the help.
Isn’t the accuracy international AX also a big bore multi caliber system ?
Have they released any conversions yet? In 375ct or 408ct.
@@user-gk7my5nd7d no CT chambering yet. And it seems I was mistaken or working off old news but it seems the AX is now in three lines with only 50 in a separate chassis to the 338/6.5/300 win mag chassis
Yes 50ELR
So, big guys afraid of competition brought bureaucracy to their defence 😂
The monopod should be thicker and stiffer
5000 metres in the face !
I absolutely hate bullpups but in a precision rifle especially with large caliber it makes total sense
They allude to it with one shot of a keyhole / hide, but there are huge benefits to the shorter package in fitting more hide sides as well the obvious portability and balance advantages.
The monopod design was already on the AIAW….
No it was not. Their monopod design is different than ours
The AI monopod uses two actuating mechanisms and ours uses a single actuating mechanism that pulls down and rotates and so ours is faster and more ergonomic to use.
The AI design is very good. Yours is very, very similar. I’m all for you borrowing from their designs. Only wish you had used their magazines for the SRS and HTI. Might have bought one if you had. 😊
Love your work, but you sons of guns ruined my life when I was trying to find Dean Michaelis's "Hard Target Interdiction" book. I'm already two .50s deep, but the HTI is a fascinating rifle I've been considering.
Here you go. LOL www.amazon.com/Complete-50-Caliber-Sniper-Course-Interdiction/dp/1581600682/ref=sr_1_2?crid=18VDEKF20HU97&keywords=hard+target+interdiction&qid=1708268390&sprefix=hard+target+interdiction%2Caps%2C138&sr=8-2
I don't like that Bulky Sheet Metal Extension Welded on the .375 magazines. It's a Waste of Magazine Pouch Storage Space and Magazine Pouch withdrawal pain in the ass. Olympic or Dehlfi did that years ago on Sten magazines to fit AR Magwells and it was terrible and Hated. How about a Snap-In Magazine Adapter Spacer Block instead. Like They make for the Std. AR15 Magwell to convert to 9mm. Other Wise You are clearly dead on Target.
anyone lame enough to get a .50 in bolt action would just get a Barrett M99 for half the price
