    This company does a fantastic job of listening to its customers, taking ownership, and improving its designs. I love the fact that the CEO gets on RUclips to present the product.
    Personally, I think scrapping the forward eject may be the best move in the present, but the idea should be perfected in the background. It’s an innovative design that can be a real game changer. If I may offer an opinion, maybe an easy fix for the safety check would be to just make the ejection port transparent, like a lancer mag. I’m sure there is a way to simplify the malfunction clearing, it’s just going to take more out of the box thinking. I hope you continue to work on the idea in the background and perfect it.
    These new models sound the the vision of the MDRX finally realized. For me, the cons of bullpups have always outweighed the pros, particularly the ergos and trigger, until the MDRX came around. It seemed to solve all those issues. But after watching review after review I was disappointed with the flaws of the MDRX. Since its release I kept coming back to see if any improvements had been made. I can’t wait for guntubers to get their hands on these and start dishing out reviews. Maybe I’ll finally take the leap into bullpups.

    Desert Tech should split the MDR family into large and small frame.
    A combat reliable 5.56 (and .300blk) size bullpup. No .308 size and weight, no mag inserts. Just the gun the AUG, Tavor and L85 wanted to be.
    16" and 12" (and 8" 300blk) options. Stronger handguard rail (monolithic?). Give us comfy/ changable cheek pads and either a steep or even better exchangable AR pistol grips.
    Oh, and maybe an improved trigger pack. Maybe even work with Triggertech or Hiperfire. We would absolutely pay for even better (reliable!) triggers.
    And then the big boy rifle for .308, 6.5creed and nowadays 8.6blackout.
    >>>No barrel touching picatinny slot that burns up your hand.No fancy ejection, a little less modularity. Just reliable, compact and lightweight.stronger internals, no mim parts. Stronger charging handle.

    • @murdurmuffin7872
      @murdurmuffin7872 8 месяцев назад +11

      I really dislike the idea of making separate "large and small frame" versions. Multi caliber potential, with as many options as possible, is huge and prevents me from having to own multiple rifles. Better in my view to spend development and materials on further improving reliability while maintaining compatibility. What exactly does one gain by making the platform less compatible?

    • @Berserkable
      @Berserkable 8 месяцев назад +10

      @@murdurmuffin7872Nah, I have very little interest in this weapon in large frame. A dedicated small frame that’s smaller, lighter and cheaper (it should be cheaper as it should be a bit more simple and less material overall). Even if I could I wouldn’t shove 556 parts into my LaRue 308 because it’s just bulky. They should easily be able to make it lighter than the AUG if they went to a dedicated 556.

    • @JamesMelton
      @JamesMelton 8 месяцев назад +5

      @@Berserkableit wouldn't be cheaper without scale of economy. You'd end up paying more, which is why they build a single platform. And for guys like me, I prefer the multical frame. An upgrade that makes it lighter, simpler and hopefully both more accurate yet also more reliable sounds great.
    Even if the name is dumb and you should fire the naming guy. Same dude that came up with HUXWRX name?
    But you missed a great opportunity to split the 5.56 sized rifle from the .308 battle rifle. Nobody switches calibers and rezeroes optics so much that a lighter and more dedicated small frame rifle wouldn't be a benefit. And if you double down on caliber conversions, 7.62x39 and 9mm would be cool additions.

    The fact that DT has improved the MDR platform and evolved it into the Wolverine is exciting as they have essentially perfected the design. The fact that the design has become more simple, and with less parts is awesome. I also love that this is essentially “Americas Bullpup” it is a good thing to know that it is domestically made, and innovated.
    I also don’t think we should mourn the loss of the forward eject, as Nick stated, large amounts of customer preferred the ease of operation and reliability. Those two aspects are king. It also doesn’t discount the fact that there are very effective shell deflectors that can be designed by DT, or the aftermarket that will throw brass forward at an angle. It definitely can be done.
    All in all, both products look to be a fantastic offering. I am glad DT had learned, and continued to innovate and perfect their products. It is awesome to see. I will be picking one up down the line for sure.

    So just to be clear, is the Sabertooth available in a semi-auto only version, or are the parts hand guards compatible across both variants? That new handguard design looks like exactly what was keeping me from the MDRX before (aside from being poor, lol) as I do shoot under NODs a lot and my main 5.56 suppressor is reflexed about three inches. If those inches can fit under the handguard (and I could SBR it and switch to a micro setup with a suppressor under the handguard in .300 blk in the same gun sometime if I want to) then it solves two of my hang-ups very handily.

    I had been considering getting an MDRX forward eject for some time and saving my pennies to that end. I had been hesitating before because it seemed like the platform was going through some growing pains and I've never been keen on getting the first run of anything until the product has a proper shakeout period. Despite that I was still impressed with the design and features and was willing to splurge on a pricey rifle. Now though, given the abandonment of the MDRX and the fact that the new rifle costs just as much despite getting less I'm left with a negative impression of desert tech. Caveat emptor. That's $2500+ that will remain in my bank account.

    As a prior serving Marine and former weapons instructor while serving, I have slowly and begrudgingly been drawn to bullpups. I am a supporter and fan of the IDF and their main rifle, which is a bullpup. There are many options out there, however, it took me a while to stumble upon Desert Tech and the MRDX and learn this is an American bullpup manufacturer. I have yet to acquire a bullpup to add to my loadout options. However, after thoroughly researching all the manufacturers, I know that I want an American made rifle.
    Desert Tech like any company has had success and challenges. The thing that sticks out to me about DT, they NEVER down play issues and concerns from their consumers. They appear to be upfront and transparent about the evolutionary steps they've taken to make consistent improvements of each iteration of their bullpup based on user feedback. That is uncommon in the firearms manufacturing industry.
    I liked what I saw in the MRDX with a few reservations, however, I think the WLVRN may have pushed me over the edge to acquire my first bullpup with the intention of making it my main rifle load out option. The sheer shortness of bullpups by default is a huge advantage without a reduction in barrel length, maintaining the potential for maximizing intended powder burn.

    Why are there no half-pups like the WW2 German FG-42 and the M-60 that followed? Put the Quattro on a half-pup to replace the Marines IAR. No forward ejection needed. Better balance. Shorter overall length. More space for recoil like the Ultimax or Surefire MGX. That handguard and bipod is already slick for an IAR. The Quattro would be perfect for the Surefire MGX too.

    This new iteration of the Desert Tech semi-auto bullpup might finally be better than a Kel-tec and might actually work as a DMR now. Great sport utility.
    The Quattro is a good addition to the Marines open air IAR concept with their H&K's... provided the manifestation of equal reliability to standard capacity magazines, all high-caps have their developmental issues. With a longer barrel and 77 grain pills, that would overcome a lot of the disadvantages of the 5.56.
    I still don't know what long stroke and short stroke operation are for? Direct Impingement is always potentially lower cost, lighter weight, more accurate, less recoil, and more reliable even though it might have to be cleaned between firefights. The grass was never greener, hot and dirty American was always the way to be.

  • @ThirdRamon
    @ThirdRamon 8 месяцев назад +5

    As a whole I can’t contest that this seems to be a substantial improvement over the MDRX platform. You seem to really be pushing for a share of the LEO/MIL market, which makes sense, so I hope you’re successful in that.
    I understand your reasoning as to removing the forward ejection system, but it’s still sad to see it go. That was without a doubt the most compelling feature of the MDR platform as a left handed shooter. I’m sure it’ll be easy to configure to left hand use, but the ability to swap shoulders has now been removed, which removes the true ambidexterity that was touted originally. This leaves people who wanted the FE either SOL or scrambling to buy a now abandoned platform. Like I said though, I get the LEO/MIL reasoning for moving away from it.
    Additionally, I have some concerns about the lack of rigidness in the handguard. It seems to use the same mounting system as the MDRX, which isn’t known to be strong enough to hold zero for IR/Laser.
    I look forward to seeing real world reviews of the rifle.
    This also explains why y’all weren’t rushed to cover the gap from the removal of the pic rail on the gas block with regard to the MDRX haha.

    • @DesertTechUT
      @DesertTechUT  8 месяцев назад +16

      Thanks for the honest feedback. It’s not just the LE MIL contracts we are chasing. The Forward ejection was holding the rifle back:
      1. It killed accuracy - It required fierce bolt cycle which was destroying ammo during feeding cycle and generating fierce barrel harmonics
      2. It increased recoil
      3. It added a LB to the rifle weight
      4. It was stalling MIL/LE adoption.
      5. It was too expensive
      The FE was a learning lesson to stop innovations at the point they start to hurt performance. We became more concerned with how bullets were feeding and firing in the gun rather than how the brass was ejecting. You still can swap ejection sides which I understand isn’t as convenient.
      As far as the handguard the new Sabertooth handguard is the solution. It will be an optional accessory for mdr and WLRVN owners it clamps with 2800 lbs of force and doesn’t budge you will love it! 👍🏻

      @@DesertTechUTman, what a great comment to give insight. I wonder if a brass deflector can have appropriate geometry to cause ejection patterns that more closely resemble the forward ejection's intent?
      Either way, DT being willing to innovate is what makes you stand out. I hope future videos can showcase some of these concepts and potential prototypes, because it'd be sad to see that part of your brand go altogether.
