The problem is a primary purpose of the M27 concept was for there to be ammunition commonality in firefight conditions. The automatic rifleman would be able to use the same ammunition and same magazines as the rifleman and vice versa, as necessary. While I think that the Quattro concept may be the most elegant and refined option for increasing magazine capacity, it wouldn't make much sense for that particular application unless it was adopted as a complete service rifle replacement.

@@KeterMalkuth Got a point, but have one guy designated as the squad support gun and now he can carry enough without needing to borrow someone else's, and only thing to make him stand out is bigger magwell and longer barrel. How fast can one throw in that adapter?

      ex machinegunner here.
Automatic Rifleman (mag fed) is an obsolete concept. Every country that once used these weapons has moved to belt fed Squad Autos including Russia and China.
After refining the Quattro in the field, it should be the new "STANAG" magazine. The next Squad Auto should be KACs LMG or something similar.

Two things that would make this rock even more:
    1) Quattro-15 magazines that work with different calibers like 6.5 Grendel/6mm ARC, 300Blk, 6mm Max (a Quattro-15 in 6mm Max would be really awesome!)
    2) Quattro-15 magazines in different lengths with the corresponding capacities (I.e something the length of a pmag 20 and pmag 10 that would provide a lot more capacity and be easier to shoot prone)

My suggestion for the Infinity 16 would be to use a heavy profile barrel with cooling fins under the handguard and set it up as like a modern day RPK or Squad Automatic Weapon. It would be the perfect setup for the Qmag-53. Look up the "Klein Machining" uppers for reference, they would be fantastic on this platform.

I'm not a gun owner, but I think these Quattro 53 round mags are awesome. You definitely need to find a way to make them work in your bullpups, I think they're a game changer. Arguably a bigger innovation than the different caliber that the Sig M5 uses, a lot of body armor degrades after multiple shots, and having almost twice as many rounds could be a more effective way to defeat body armor. Food for thought at least. Seeing your Heat recreation made that abundantly clear to me. Also I know sticking to Stanag pattern mags is a big deal, but doubling the round count is a pretty good reason to break it. (If that would help you get the Quattro in the Bullpups)

    • @DesertTechUT

I agree 100%. These mags are total game changers!

    • @KeterMalkuth
      @KeterMalkuth 5 месяцев назад +2

Modern body armor is still extremely effective outside of the specific location of impact. The chances of being able to land multiple shots in a close enough area to be able to punch through armor is extremely slim, let alone having the time and opportunity to land multiple shots on target at all. Better is to just train to circumvent armor. Aim for the pelvic line if the first few shots aren't effective, or the head if you're feeling ballsy.

    • @cameronsenna8979
      @cameronsenna8979 5 месяцев назад +2

@@KeterMalkuth I don't necessarily disagree with you, but if you dump 10 rounds over a body, and some hit armor, and some hit the shoulder, arms, pelvis, legs neck and head, you can disable someone without even penetrating body armor. Especially if you have more ammo, and can use full auto fire effectively.

Not to mention its stated the full power sig fury rounds diminish follow up shot accuracy due to the intensive recoil impulse of the full power cartridge. Almost deligating those full power rounds to a more DMR oriented role as opposed to a main combat carbine

If I can pattern a tighter burst with 223 than I can with 277, the tighter 223 burst is preferred, but obviously distance diminishes this standard. So i would understand if the 277 was developed for afghanistan and similar theatres, but I believe intermediate cartridges will remain supreme in urban warfare because of weight and count capacity

DT innovates so fast I had to bump my MDRx review to release this morning since the WLVRN will replace it at SHOT'24! Thank you guys for sticking with it and continuing to innovate. Food for thought on using the QMAG53s with bullpups... have you considered cable linkages rather than bars? Although unsuccessful as a platform, the AN94 used cables in its mechanism. Perhaps the lower intensity of using steel cables for mag releases or triggers would allow more flexibility around the wider magazine.

It would be really cool to see this in 5.7. I figure you could get about 70 rounds into the 30 round AR magazine form factor (similar length, wider, shorter, resulting in equivalent volume). Not only would it beat AR form factor PDWs, but it would also beat the awkward P90. Your 210 round loadout is one in the gun and 2 spares that aren't unusually bulky.

How does the Quattro mags work with calibers other then .223? .300 BLK, .224 Valkyrie, 6mm ARC, 6,5 Grendel and so on? I assume it would be trickier to get a quadstack, to work with multiple different calibers, with the .224 Valkyrie, 6mm ARC, 6,5 Grendel having a larger case diameter and the .300 BLK might have issues, if the cases lean inwards towards the front because of the blunter and larger diameter bullet.

If that's true that the magazine handles cartridges with a 2.300+ overall length, that would also make the QMag-53 and compatible lowers as one of the few semi-auto rifles on the market that will fire the longer 6.8 SPC cartridges that exceed the 2.260" STANAG mag limit. You can get some pretty nice performance out of the 6.8 SPC with more powder and heavier bullets.

Man, I love innovation. I love videos like this where innovation is showcased and explained. Innovation in every sector is needed, especially with freedom keepers(guns).
Different perspectives and trains of thought are beyond necessary when it comes to innovating and pushing what it means to be cutting edge.
What cart(cartridge) is best for what situation? Is there a perfect cart already invented for your vision of your perfect gun? Should you create a new cart that will change the gun industry.
One thing that bugs me about the gun industry is how the current most popular carts stifle innovation. Ppl don’t want to innovate when it comes to carts/bullets because of our reliance on 9 and 556.
And the conservative nature of the military when it comes to guns is just an innovation killer.
We want real innovation not just slight variants/upgrades to already existing platforms.
One thing I also don’t like is the “innovation” when it comes to making guns ambi. There’s too much focus on making guns ambi and it takes focus away from perfecting guns.
Another thing is making guns too ‘all-in-one’. Trying to make all of our guns be able to be long range and short range at the same time by switching out parts is stupid. We need to hyper focus on creating dedicated long range, mid range, and short range weapons. All of this part switching, taking apart your gun and replacing barrels and other parts is not a good idea. It could maybe be a niche for a small percentage of guns. But most companies focusing on multi purpose guns is not good for the industry.
Basing design around AR/glock compatibility is anti-innovation.
We need to go back to the drawing board and rethink what gun innovation actually is. What’s the best Bullet for what range/scenario? What’s the best platform? What’s the best material to make these guns out of? Etc. should a new platform, cartridge, metal alloy, etc, be created to make a whole new gun. Actual innovation.
And I understand that the US gov has been killing innovation for the past 100 years, we have to reform our gov and make the gov understand that they’re there to protect our country and rights. The gov, since the early 1900s has been acting as if we are here to be their slaves.
We need more guns designed, sourced, and made in America. We need more innovation by companies that care about America. These foreign companies and giant corporate owned companies should be boycotted.
The perfect gun has not been invented yet…

For the full-auto upper I'd go with the Surefire OBC for the extra travel and carrier weight to slow that rate of fire down, smooth out the recoil impulse, and strip from the mag with more authority. For the bolt I'd go with the LMT enhanced, just because I think it's the best bolt going right now. If LMT and HMB got together and combined their AR bolt enhancements it'd be a world beater, an easy and significant upgrade to any AR platform weapon.

The issue you may run into with a folding stock is that the stock wouldn't fold completely flat against the rifle with the wide flare of the receiver around the magazine. Do you know what the difference is? other than one being full auto from the get go?
I have a rare breed trigger and wanted to know if it'd work in the original Quatro

I would really like to see a special run of the translucent mags if for no other reason than aesthetics. You could even post a disclaimer that durability / functionality is not guaranteed but rather it’s for display purposes. Like the cutaway demo glocks it’s just interesting to be able to see what’s going on inside.
Also my experience with Nick Young and Jake and all the folks I’ve interacted with at DT has been really positive. They are innovative and responsive and seem to be always improving.
Manufacturing small arms and staying profitable are almost always antithetical to one another - Forgotten Weapons has taught me that much. Designing Producing and bringing to market this type of stuff in around two years is impressive.

Translucent is still very strong about as strong as the lancers but the lancer breaking drop tests. We were very concerned about any problems arising hurting the image of the product so we made it bomb proof and reliable beyond belief.

We designed the QMAG specifically for 5.56 because we didn't want to compromise reliablity at all. Reports from early users it is working flawlessly with 300 BLK. We will do some validation with 300 BLK after shot show.

@@JustAnotherPaddy Plenty of folks have already given them money, myself included, but they keep telling us it'll ship "soon". Latest update was by "January 31st", so here's hoping. Looks to be a solid product offering, and I'd love to get more of the lowers if the one I have on order is everything I'm expecting. But I ain't giving them anymore money until they show they can actually ship a product. I should've known better, this isn't their first rodeo with launching a product months late, but man they got me with the original November shipping ETA.
At least a few folks seem to have received theirs, so its progress....for whatever that's worth.

yes but you still have to spend the time reloading a new mag, the idea is to cut reloads in half for a 210 round loadout. :D@@bigmad3123

@@DesertTechUT 1. With coupled mags, the reload is much quick than a traditional reload. 2. I'm getting 32% more rounds. It's a wash at best, which is why a 70 or 80 round quad stack makes more sense to me.

I would buy a q15 if not for the holes in the lower, maybe it doesn’t cause ingress problems but it FEELS like it would and you have to trust your rifle
I know why the holes are there, but if I’m going to buy this I’m not going to want to put pmags in it. Some way to close them with a quad stack in at least

    • @DesertTechUT

The mag seals against the upper receiver so there isn’t anyway debris can get in. Also the holes is how we clip in the 30 round mag adapter.
