i can personally attest to the A.I. being excellent because one of my few deaths was a result of it.
I was hiding behind a wall with only 40 HP and all of a sudden i hear "SHOOT THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER!!" Next thing i know i hear a BOOM and i die. I look and just out of my view is when the fire extinguisher model is.
F.E.A.R. immediately became one of my top 3 favorite FPSs ever.

My scariest memory of Fear, there's a part where you climb down a ladder and alma appears in front of you one scary ass jump scare, and then a couple of seconds after you climb the ladder and reached the floor you turn around and then Paxton Fettel appears instead. Damn fear you trying to give me a heart attack. Amazing game though!

That happens in like a sewer or basement section of the facility. That's like the archetypal FEAR jumpscare, it's the one that everyone remembers most of all. For me the fuckiest was when you're in the offices with the cubicles (like that narrows it down lol) and nothing is out of the ordinary and there are no enemies so you're just poking around and when you go to inspect one of the cubicles desiccated Alma or w/e skitters out of the shadow in the cubicle towards you and disappears and there's a musical sting and it happens in a split second so you're freaked out but the event happens too quickly for you to assess what the danger is so if you're like me you spaz out and pump buckshot into the cubicle and everything around it. That one in particular gets me everytime.

You're really an outstanding RUclipsr, you know? I mean it.
The way this video is done is very informative and straight-to-the-point, but the wording and style still invokes a lot of raw feeling in me, making me remember my own experiences with the F.E.A.R. franchise. Like my first playthrough of F.E.A.R., or how I used to play my copy of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin with my eldest half-brother, who lived on the other side of the street at the time, on his PS3, where we would pass the gamepad back and forth every time a level was finished or either of us died.
Without being loud or overly openly enthusiastic at all, the way you present yourself and this video brings across a certain kind of passion, and a desire to share that passion and the information in the video with the viewers, in a way that feels distinct and even somewhat unusual in today's RUclips scene.
Really, your videos - whether you rant, praise, inform or kid around - are a joy to watch, and I thank you for the work and time you put into your content.
Especially in regards to this video about the F.E.A.R. franchise - a franchise I myself have very strong feelings for. : )

This is one of the best videos I've ever watched on RUclips! I'm so glad I've subscribed to your channel.
Btw, I can't explain it exactly but I am always under the impression that FEAR 2 is graphically inferior to FEAR 1. Sure the sequel looks more colourful and vibrant but there's something very out of place about it. Maybe it's the lighting that gives FEAR 1 a better presentation?

    • @DXFromYT
      @DXFromYT  8 лет назад +27

Yes, it's the lighting that makes FEAR look a tad better, but in reality, FEAR 2 is using more advanced methods to present its lighting. I think it is aesthetically inferior, but getting down to the bare bones of graphics, FEAR 2 is better in nearly every way. It's a shame FEAR 2 doesn't retain more of FEAR's graphical qualities. The demo in 07' for Project Origin at E3 looked a lot more like the original FEAR. I think what's out of place about FEAR 2's graphics is the softness to them. FEAR is a very rigid looking game, FEAR 2 is not. Don't even get me started on the enemy highlighting effect, haha. Glad you enjoyed this video.

I recently played the 2nd FEAR title in full, and planning to pick up the original one eventually. And I have to say you're spot on with the Elementary School being one of the creepiest areas in the 2nd game. I had goose bumps throughout most of that stage.

I got these games when they came out. I beat FEAR 2 a few days after release. When you encounter her during that section in the school you showed. I was shaking because the surround I had made it so scary. 🤪 Definitely one of the games I'd love to forget, go back and play.

Even 16 years later, every time I play fear 1, I get shivers and goosebumps even though I know what's coming up. The horror triggers me on a visceral level despite being acclimated on a cognitive level. That's good horror. Also I love the menu music

Clone soldiers, advance weapons, secret military projects, super human reflexes, literal ghosts, this game was Metal Gear Solid meets Poltergeists. a very underappreciated series, I would love to see it come back some day

It’s neat to know that hard boiled had an influence on fear and I’ve played the game that was related to hard boiled called stranglehold which introduced me to hard boiled a few years ago! I still like watching hard boiled from time to time because of the high level action that’s in it and I’m glad it had a hand in making fears combat fun!

At one point I was crawling through an air duct, and flashlight began flickering. Something blocked my way, breathing hollow. I turned slowly. A bloody leg from someone sitting next to me. Flashlight flickered again. Nothing there. What haunts me today is I have that memory, but never heard of anyone else seeing the same thing. FEAR is the mind thriller.

The F.E.A.R universe was one of the most intriguing and original I'd played in a long time. Where in other games you were meant to feel alone in this you feel like you're never alone yet you still have to survive alone.

Thanks for making this video. I just played through all 3 games for the first time over the course of the last few days and enjoyed them all. I hope they make a sequel, but knowing how the gaming industry is these days and how they're all for profit; it's less than likely.

I always wanted to play the 1st one when I was younger. Only ever got to play a few minutes of the demo. I finally got it a few days back and its amazing how well the AI and combat overall holds up or surpasses most AAA FPS today. Great video. Thanks for the awesome content!
Also, highly suggest checking out the Trepang 2 demo on steam. A lot of fans consider it to be an unofficial “FEAR 4” or reboot. It’s pretty great

The Cafeteria/Kitchen area is my favorite. Using forks, knives, and other cooking utensils to create the ambience and music created a creepy but intense soundtrack. It wasn't scary, but it remains in my memory as one of the most enjoyable shootouts in a game ever.

What a great video, im a big fan of fear and id love to see it continue or even reboot it with the same flare the original had. This game was a masterpiece. If it ever comes back i would definitely buy the hell out of it. No game has scared the hell of me like fear has.

Don’t know why this randomly popped up. Maybe because I’ve been thinking of replaying F.E.A.R. and Extraction Point and my iPhone low key has the ability to read minds but awesome vid! Wish I knew how to get that great FoV you had going on. It looked amazing though I remember the FoV being a lot tighter than that and not seeing so much of the great gun details.

This was such an amazing series, I remember being so pissed when my mom wouldn't let me buy it because the dude at gamestop said it was too scary for me, he was right, and i loved every second.
I still hold out hope that someone will get their hands on this IP and do something with it, or at least make something comparable. This was just too good to be true.
