Not just that they created a lazy reason for weapon swaying so heavily. The developers called it Weapon Wandering which is active all the time but it is terrible compared to even compared to call of duty. Patrick B I just know Half Life 3 will dissapoint everyone IF it ever does come out. Even if it's the greatest game ever, everyone will be dissapointed because of the hype and everyone waiting for MORE than best game ever. That's what happened to No Man's Sky and Mighty No. 9
Peter Jackson's King Kong the Official Game of the movie did almost EVERYTHING this game was aiming for a million times better. Movie based game that respected its source material, made you feel vulnerable and helpless in an alien environment with tons of enemies, but still gave you decent control to convince your player that they could survive, enemies that could tear you to shreds easily if you weren't smart or on your feet, compelling difficulty, amazing gunplay, and atmosphere that sucked you into its own world...and THAT was made in 2005!
Wait, "Execution Melee Prompt"? As in, you run up to the Alien, grab them, and then execute them? Why would you ever want to do that, aren't the aliens at their most dangerous when up close? And what about their acid blood? How do you not get burned at point blank range?
I mean it's using the butt of the gun for blunt attacks, so it's doing blunt damage, which shouldn't make them bleed, but yeah, if you're close enough to melee that'd be a bad sign in actual aliens films and actually good games
not to be "THAT GUY" but the alien in the original film was intended to be as mortal as a human and maybe only marginally stronger. it was never meant to be "the terminator"
Abel Villa not really. It's unpredictable to be honest. It has other ways to find you. I remembered doing that and scared the hell out of me through the vents.
GearBox outsourced this game and didn't give a shit about it, that's why it failed. The original design was about a tactical shooter where you lead a Marine Fire-Team and try to survive against hordes of aliens, including ones that would try to outflank you or find a way through your defences. Imagine something like Space-Hulk, you're trying to decide what doors to seal shut, where to place the sentry guns, where you will bottle neck them etc, and then you try to hold out while all hell breaks lose. Now GearBox scrapped that idea way early on, no intention to make anything worth while and outsourced random pieces of shit to another company with no clear direction of what they were doing, only to take it back off them years later and try slap together something playable. TLDR: GBX didn't give a shit about the license, it was a cash grab that failed.
Not even that, either a Gearbox employee or a Timegate employee misspelt a crucial line in the game's code that affected the Alien AI. This one spelling error lobotomised the functions of the Aliens, as they couldn't recognise any counter tactics to use against the player. Though I still think this is just a mistake and people tend to miss a lot of things during QA testing(like all things, QA isn't 100% guaranteed to fix everything, and neither are hotfixes) So in essence, Gearbox didn't scrap the idea, they just messed up. And in programming, a single error can ruin the entire codex. Also, the main guys to throw shit at are actually SEGA, who left the game in Development Hell for many years.
\\The original design was about a tactical shooter where you lead a Marine Fire-Team and try to survive against hordes of aliens, including ones that would try to outflank you or find a way through your defences\\ Brothers in Aliens?
The part where the animations for struggling reminded you of F.E.A.R. brought to mind when i was fighting the T-Rex thing from Resident Evil 6 and i almost immediately realized a lot of it moves/animations were almost the exact same as the Deviljho from Monster Hunter
I just realized a detail that DXfan619 uses in some of his videos, whenever hes really mad or anything related to bad enemies, he plays sounds of a left 4 dead horde fight. You have to listen close but its really there.
I really don't understand where this sudden decadence of American English is coming from!? It's "I have ever SEEN"! Not "saw"! Where is this terrible influence coming from and what do American teachers have to say in their defense?
The game is pretty bad, but the vast majority of his complaints just come from being a bad player. It looks like he's playing with a damn controller! The hit-reg is fine if you're not expecting an SMG to be accurate at long range. The gunplay is okay. It's the movement and AI that ruin it. And the annoying unskippable cutscenes. And the useless characters that follow you around and just get in the way. Anyone whose complaint is "I can't hit things, so the game is too hard" is a bot. Their I is worse than the the game's AI. They need to open their own directory and check for typos in their brain code. I've never heard "I can't hit anything" as a complaint of this game before. I've heard "It's too easy" a lot.
You. Have. NO IDEA how long I've waited for this. After a week back at boring as hell school, this is a massive relief. 30 minutes of ripping and tearing into Colonial Marines.
* see the start of the video* Alien: I must go my people need me* super jumps into the sky* Me:.......O-O........this game still finds away to brake even after all these years
I remember pre-ordering this game (back when there was enough of the naivety to go around) and being so pumped up. Alien had a huge impact on my childhood. And when I saw the demo to this game, it was great. Ot looked exactly like the game I had been waiting for. But then it released. And I forgot all about that pre-order. Long story short, GTA V also released not too long after, and the guy behind the counter asked if I wanted to transfer the money from my pre-order of Alien's Colonial Marines to GTA V. That was a no brainer if I ever heard one.
If you want an action packed shooter in similar vein try Quake IV. Yes it's older, but not only does it look MILES better despite being made in 2005, it plays very solidly and has a well presented story. A very highly underrated FPS that seems like GB tried to partially copy in this game (along with fear and CoD, all of which they failed miserably at doing.)
It's an absolute bitch to get running on 8 and 10 properly. You have to use some weird compatibility patch just to get half the menus to work, and even then you're stuck with lowest gfx settings unless you create a cfg file that forces ultra. It's still fun after you get past the headaches but tends to show its age when it crashes or doesn't allow you to make certain menu selections (that's just a problem I ran into, might just be my shitty scratched up install disc causing the problem)
MRT my only guess is that idtech 4 didn't age as well in terms of compatibility as source did. It's all about how an engine/game is programmed, not on pure age.
I know this is a late and possible irrelevant reply, but while I do agree with you on the subject of the console advantage (even though the 8th gen pretty much got rid of plug and play), the Xbox 360 version of Quake IV is a mess. It's actually kind of funny. The game is so poorly optimized (probably running graphics that are too demanding for a 360 launch title) that the framerate will drop as low as eleven, and they didn't even bother capping the game at 30 fps; the game will literally go straight down from 60 fps to the teens. It's hilariously bad.
MRT Absolutely. My PC is pretty poor (pentium g3220 3.0 ghz dual core and gtx 650 ti 1 gb) but I can definitely understand your problem. One particular game that pisses me off is Team Fortress 2; me and a group of friends still play this game regularly, but my current setup only manages and average of 40 fps on default highest settings. The only way i can get consistent 60 fps is by making the game look like a ps2 game. However, just a couple years ago, I was getting and average of 80 FPS on the absolute highest settings. Why is this, you may ask? Because Valve fucked up the game's optimization during the past 2 years with the updates they've been pushing out. I dunno why it's so bad but I have a friend who has some stupid shitty pc that has a dual core pentium 2.4 ghz from 2010 and a radeon 6800 (probably not the right card at all, but it's some weird ati dedicated card with 512 mb of ram). AND YET ONLY RECENTLY DID THE GAME STOP RUNNING AT 60 FPS FOR HIM. Once my pc had already ceased to run the game well he was still getting decent fps despite his pc being about 1/3 of mine's power. This shows that lazy updates can make a game run like sh!t over time.
+PerfectTube12 True. I wished Battlefront 2015 had as much content as Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It looks nice, but it was severely lacking when it comes to gameplay...
Aliens: Colonial Marines is a travesty. I fucking *hate* this game so goddamn much. This is not only the worst first person shooter I have ever played, it's one of the worst video games I have ever played. Period. Fuck this game.
I played it also just to see how bad it was. I actually enjoyed it. There was a couple things I didn't like (the blood form the aliens coulda looked better) but for the most part it was a pretty good game. The irony is the exact things these people complain about this game Alien Isolation had worse yet these same people LOOOOVE alien isolation. :/
one thing that I noticed during this: "WHY THE HELL ARE THEIR BULLET RICOCHET'S ON XENO'S WHEN IT SHOULD BE ONLY BLOOD! This also happens on human armour!" as for the guns, it's like your shooting either paintballs, or BB's!
I was playing through the campaign on Veteran and I wasn't having any trouble. Then I reached the scene with the power loader fight, it's nearly impossible. Prepare to spend several upon several hours dying. The NPC (non playable character) AI is so horrendous that they do a horrible job of fighting off the endless spawns of drone xenomorphs during the scene. You can try to shake them off but it wastes time and they surround you. Eventually, I quit and I never returned to Colonial Marines. Copy and paste the bullshit from COD games. If I'm playing an FPS game I don't want the unnecessary bullshit scenes with stealth, driving, and protecting NPCs from the sky with a view of the map.
From what I’ve seen, the Gearbox games that don’t seem to have a cartoony artstyle & obnoxious comedy, seems to suffer; Aliens: Colonial Marines & Duke Nukem Forever both tanked and had the longest amount of development time than any other game. Inhave to wonder what goes on in Gearbox’s mindset to fuck off onto different projects and forget about the ones they started on before, until the last fucking minutes.
@@thecircleoft.e.d2121 You can't really blame Gearbox for Duke Nukem Forever, considering that the game was announced two years before Gearbox was founded, and was in development for 13 years before they took over the project.
That was Powerloader fighting? For me, it looks more like your character having a seizure while sitting in Powerloader. If i wanted that, i would boot up Aliens from arcades. Despite the typical japanese junk it has, it was playable and can be called a game.
Some interesting facts on the issues you brought up : No Bullet Tracers - Technically this is not true, they do actually have tracers, but the shader used to render them is bugged and distorts soo little you can't see them. They were supposed to look like the tracer effect from the Matrix where it distorts the world. I replaced them in my mod with proper white-hot tracers like normal games Terrible Gun aiming - Some smart spark at Gearbox thought it was a good idea to add what they term 'Weapon Wandering' which is the simulation of you not being able to hold the gun still when aiming because of its wieght. But this system ONLY wanders the weapon (hence the name) not your viewpoint. This is why the Red Dot sight is often so far away from where the bullets go. To compound this, bullets do not come out of your gun, they come out of your character at the aim point. These two systems cannot be used together for the reasons on display in ACM. I removed this 'feature' in my mod Hit Detection - There is not actually any problem with the hit detection, it is entirely caused by the above weapon wandering. At long range, even just wandering a few pixels means your aim is off by meters. Only the weapon wanders, not the camera or firing point, so you adjust the camera to bring the sight in line with your target, but all you've done is move the firing point away from the target. You can't see the firing point when aiming. Absolutely terrible Boilers - The are programmed to ignore you if you crouch. stupid
Wow, thank you for that incredible insight on the issues with this game. I can't fathom how broken this game is. I regret not trying out your mod until now but this game put me off so much that I honestly didn't think most of what was blatantly wrong and broken with the game could be fixed.
All they need to do is remake this game. The base is there, but the mechanics and designs were awful. Give it more funding, let the studio(s) actually finish the game instead of rushing, and it could actually be fun like it was meant to be.
The only way that they could remake this game if it was a tied in with Aliens, that would give a reasonable reason why the Marines are there, with the protagonists, and not give a bullshit explanation why they should come back.
Not rushing it? It had a 6 years game development, it’s not it was rushed, it was that Gearbox did not care, in the least, they where developing Borderlands at same time, and it was the game that got the attention and the budget. There is even allegations that they pulled money meant for Colonial Marines into Borderlands instead
Kazuto Kirigaya How on earth could Colonial Marines be worse? I've played parts of it, and it wasn't all that bad. It was definitely subpar, but I wouldn't put it in the same world as that monstrosity
Because it is obvious that no one put any effort in Galactic Hitman, in Colonial Marines there was effort but they still failed. You can't really compare AAA game to Digital Homicide.
+Sam Geuvenen Because Digital Homicide don't seem to care about making decent gameplay the way Gearbox does. Not to mention the high expectations Aliens: Colonial Marines had before its release.
How the hell don't you have at least 500k subs? You're content is informative, you're fun and sarcastic and a very good, articulate speaker. Go figure. I'm re-watching your vids.
There was going to be a "Aliens: Colonial Marines" (no relation to this game) on PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the early 2000s, but it ended up being cancelled. And we ended up getting this garbage.
This piece of shit was announced back in 2001 when they released the beta footage and the preview screenshot then it got cancelled by EA before the scheduled release. Then Sega purchased the rights by 20th Century Fox in 2006, there were words about it being cancelled again and it raised such an uproar within the fanbase who were waiting for that game. The game was in such a development hell, there were lay-offs within the Gearbox staff, they were pulling off resources from the development of this game to work on Borderlands while still receiving paychecks from Sega, the game got heavily outsourced by other studios, it was a total shit-show. It was originally cancelled for a reason because even for 2001 standards the game looked terrible.
Yeah will give that to Gearbox, they where Master bullshiter, with how they swindled Gearbox, and convinced fans and some of the influencers in the video game industry like Angry Joe that they cared about the Aliens franchise
Dude far cry 3 blood dragon was the shit of course it's better than colonial marines (you know you do right when you reference predator right off the bat and also avp3 is better than colonial marines, just throwing that out there)
I sadly brought it at release. Worst I expected it to be bad, but Angry Joe was so excited about it, he convinced me to buy pre-release.... I should have staid with my first impression
I find it very interesting that you go on about tracers and enemies reacting to being shot. I've always wondered what makes games like Killing Floor (and KF2) so... visceral, so thanks for basically pointing out something I never notice.
You should check out this video I did. Goes even further into FPS traditions and what I like/dislike about FPS games in general. ruclips.net/video/JygbI5uW_DE/видео.html
Making a video on gearbox would take like 5 hours ALONE with how scummy they are and Randy Pitchford would take up to 4 of those hours at best. Why do companies even still associate with gearbox at this point is beyond me. With Battleborn being a MASSIVE flop at best at least Karma is is starting to get to them.
I have to say DX, I've been a massive fan of your content for a long time, and in my opinion, Games I Fucking Hate is one of the most original series on RUclips. I haven't seen another channel that intentionally does in depth analyses of truely horrible video games, let alone at the quality you do it at. It's not only one of the most original and interesting series on this site, but also one of the funniest. Amazing work on your vids. I'm excited to see more. Sorry it took me this long to have the balls to say this.
Great video, I have been watching a lot of your videos, I found you like a month or two ago but I will say that from what I can see from the gunplay I wouldn't necessarily call it terrible, I would more say it is a little realistic, I am only basing this off of my own personal experiences of Rifle Marksmanship and well sometimes the sight picture and where the bullet goes can be different depending on the distance of your target and the constant swaying of the sight is also another real life thing, your breathing will make the sight move like that even when crouching or even prone with the rifle supported by sandbags, but then again this is just my experiences from being in the Army and for a Game like this I would not design in life-like shooting mechanics XD. Still love your videos man, keep it up :)
I have mutliple games that have these types of realistic things in it. I dont play FPS a lot but yea I would have thought the realism would be something people would want....apparently not though :/
The funniest thing about the Xeno / Utani AI is that there seems to have been a problem with coding them , in the game files people noticed that there is a spelling error in the coding of the AI , after fixing the spelling error , the xeno AI seems to have improved massively , they even climbed the walls and use cover and such. Same with the Utani Ai.
One of the best reviews I've ever seen. I played this game for 20 min and it was indeed awful. I couldn't really pinpoint why it was so awful but man, did you nail it
Ofcourse noone played it, because noone even gave it a chance, it turned out to be a not bad game after all, but ofcourse you have to make fun of it for something that is your fault, i don't want to sound like a fanboy here, and i can definitely see where you are coming from, as i do think your point is valid, but i just wanted to point this out.
+DXFan619 - I'm late to comment but just wanted to say you're one of the best games youtubers for sure, so much so i think you're in a league of your own. Your videos are informative, not to mention critical where they need to be, but especially; hilarious in the best way. Just wanted to say overall well done on an awesome channel man. I look forward to your content whenever i see it pop up. Keep killing it. People will catch on soon enough, you deserve a shit-tonne more that 85k subs.
Eh, I liked FEAR 2. I mean, FEAR is a masterpiece and still does things that modern AAA fps don't or don't do as well today lol. FEAR is seminal. But I enjoyed 2, not as good as FEAR but it was interesting and had some really cool moments.
FEAR 2 definitely had its moments. I also really like the story. But the consolized gameplay keeps me from liking, or even enjoying the gameplay at all. One of the biggest sequel blunders I can name.
@@DXFromYT You can't play through FEAR and then go to 2 like, anyone who likes 2 I'm pretty sure started there rather than FEAR being pushed heavy on their PC back in the day it was like Crysis. Like the games don't even feel the same, FEAR is a john Wu film and FEAR 2 is just call of duty singleplayer.
@@fletcherw32 FEAR 2 doesn't really play anything like COD. I like it quite a bit. Not more than the original obviously but it's insanely over hated today.
What's sad is that the AvP2 game on PC still holds up better than this shit did at launch. Just play AvP2 instead of this. Hell, they should just do a remake/remaster of the AvP2 campaign.
I think I already mentioned to you before that I saw this game at Five Below about a year after it came out. After seeing this, that $5.00 price tag didn't surprise me at all. Do they even bother to test games before they release them? There should be a law where games, including indie games, have to be tested by professionals before release, because this is unacceptable.
What seems to often happen is that, yes, most games have QA and the QA reports bugs, but the developers can only fix so many of them if the game is being rushed to release or has a small team. I imagine that's what happened here.
Though tbh even good games can be five dollars after a short time. Many games go on massive discounts a year or so after release. But five bucks after one year is suspicious. I think the recent Steam refund policy helps reduce the amount of buggy release tolerance.
QuickQuips Most of the good games they sell at Five Below though are usually old games on consoles like PS2 and they use to sell original Xbox games. If they sold a 360 or PS3 game at the time I saw CM, then it was either old itself or shit. I'll be honest and admit that I bought THUG and Jak 3 on Xbox and PS2 from that store, and they're both great games, but they were at least about 5-9 years old when I bought them from that store, so the 5 dollar price tag made sense there.
Maybe for brick and mortar stores. Digital stores like GoG, Steam, Humble Bundle, and Bundlestars tend to have more dramatic and recent price drops. IIRC, a fully loaded Shadows of Mordor was $6 recently.
I thought this would be on my top 10 games of 2013, but it ended up being 2nd worst of 2013 (first being ride to fucking hell) and most disappointing OF THE ENTIRE 7TH CONSOLE GENERATION! At least Duke Nukem Forever was somewhat fun even if it was disappointing, but this was a simultaneous fuck you to the Aliens fanbase and to the gaming community.
From being kicked studio to studio, having its entire budget spent on Borderlands 2, and tainting the Alien Franchise for YEARS, this truly is the worst game ever.
I loved the school scene. But the first just felt right, there's no qtes, the final level felt right with no levers, and the dual pistols were so satisfying.
And so what, if u have a thing for the alien franchise u will love this game especially if u grown up with the first movies from 79, 86 & 92. I’ll give it 9/10 and thinks it’s pretty damn awesome 👏
Lol not at all. I paid $6 for it and I'd rather have bought fast food with it instead. I got to level 3 and I never played this game again because it was just that bad.
Honestly, it gave me a Duke Nukem Forever vibe as I was watching the vide (as both Colonial Marines and DNF use the same engine and have almost the same design). I didn't expect that it would have more relation to FEAR.
This video is the sole reason why I call Colonial Marines "Poor Man's F.E.A.R.". And funny thing is, after making this video, DX would revisit F.E.A.R. 2 and discover that it's nowhere near as bad as Colonial Marines. And for good reason too, at least F.E.A.R. 2 has a soul, genuinely scary moments and a compellingly dark narrative.
Okay, so yea this game is fucking terrible, unplayable without user created patches... but I wouldn't call it the worst FPS ever, simply because the Raven mission was kind of awesome, and there is scum like Kimulator and Galactic Hitman out there.. it is one of the worst AAA games, yes, but definitely not the worst FPS ever... also, talking about Gearbox and SEGA is all good and well, but Colonial Marines wasn't even developed by Gearbox, it was outsourced to Day 1 Studios... and yes I fucking hate FEAR 3 and that was a Day 1 baby aswell...
KissingZombie's Channel yeah fear 3 was not a patch on the first 2. And yes it's gearbox fault. After Sega gave rights to gearbox to make an alien game. Gearbox were the ones who decided to outsource it so they could work on borderlands .randy pitchfords bullshit about being a huge aliens fans is utter crap. If he was then why did he decide to outsource aliens colonial marines instead of getting on and working on it and putting back borderlands 2?
Adam Duffield. Thank you. Seriously, how is it not the fault of Gearbox and Sega ? Gear was in charge of making the game and they outsourced it and good or bad, they are still responsible for the game. You don't give a kid your homework to do and then if they don't do it, tell the teacher "well it was supposed to be done". Sega also should have taken a loss on this. It probably would have been a goldmine that they invested in this, yet gamers deserved better than this garbage. I paid $6 for this awful game and couldn't continue after level 3 because it was too awful. Imagine paying $60 or even $120 for the collector's edition.
I think he really is..... Half his complaints boiled down to "its too realistic". The sway thing is realistic. The sprinting is realistic. Lot of his complaints were ones that youd experience in real life.
Agreed upon until the part about console and controller inferiority. Honestly, an Aliens FPS should be slower if you're playing as a human and console focused FPS games definitely exist. Now, if you're playing a more arcade-like FPS like Quake or DOOM, then mouse and keyboard is the way to go.
Oh that fucking power loader fight. It is so much worse on the highest difficulty setting (Ultimate Badass, I think it was called) due to the fact that your allies can now harm you. Add to that fact that for some fucked up reason your allies are now almost always constantly shooting every alien in the arena including the boss which, due to the previous area before the fight, they know is impervious to bullets. They will still try to shoot the fucker, even shooting through YOU, thus killing you and setting you back to the last checkpoint, in their attempt in trying to kill it. I died so many times, I had to ask a friend to help me get past that area on the highest difficulty. Seriously, fuck that fight.
The fuck? I never experienced any of these problems. Hell, I actually enjoyed and played the fuck out of CM. I guess people bought unpolished versions of the game, because I never experienced any bugs or bad A.I. Either the Mandela Effect's hitting me hard, or some people have, correction, had really buggy versions of the game.
Alex Zandate You probably have all the patches. Maybe even community patches. Even still the game is a really bad FPS, but maybe with patches and community mods the game can offer a lot of thrilling encounters despite the bad gunplay.
The problem with the swaying is not only that it makes aiming more difficult, but what breaks the whole shooting mechanic is that *the bullets still go on a straight line WITHOUT TAKING INTO ACCOUNT the swaying* xd it's a pretty heavy oversight.
For the best ALIENS experience, I recommend AVP Classic 2000 with the new skin mods and AVP 3. Oh....and ALIENS on the Nintendo DS. It's super fun and Canon.
6:02 - Also, if you look at videos of people getting shot for real, there usually isn't a cartoon explosion of blood the same instant the person is struck with a bullet. Especially if you're firing at them from a distance, there might be no visual clue your bullet hit them. They might even be so pumped with adrenaline that they keep doing what they were doing in spite of being shot.
Gearbox, wtf did you guys do...? I find it hard to believe Gearbox created Duke Nukem Forever, and THIS. These are the same guys behind the Borderlands series and that series is fucking fantastic! (Tough I doubt DX has ever played Borderlands, so he is only seeing their bad side :/) In fact, Gearbox makes me see them in a similar light to Acclaim that, they have created very good games that were well received at the time (Turok Dinosaur Hunter), and also trash (Bubsy, and also to an extent: South park the video game)
Given that there are tens or even hundreds of thousands of FPS games out there, I doubt this is the worst of them all. Now, if you are only taking into account triple-A FPS games then perhaps it could possibly reach a rather high position in a "worst games" list.
Powerloader combat was horrid? Oh man, you're missing out on doing that shit on Ultimate Badass, literally have this fight but remove the hud, but add in friendly fire and a fuck ton of HP for the big dude.
Someone else might have already mentioned it, but the xeno's ai is actually broken, thanks to a typo in the code. After fixing it, the ai will actually try to think, and flank you if it can. It won't however make the overall game much better, and it just shows how much they cared about the project.
You think something like that might have happened to your allies?
@Sixth Echelon He actually said that it doesn't make the game much better.
@Sixth Echelon my nigga... he literally said that didn't change the fact that they didn't give a shit and the game still sucks.
Not just that they created a lazy reason for weapon swaying so heavily. The developers called it Weapon Wandering which is active all the time but it is terrible compared to even compared to call of duty.

Well thank god Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon came out that year ;)
No more God damn Democrats !
But...The Last Of Us...
Gamer Ray
Looking back I don't think it holds up.
Thank God for Shadow Warrior. That game was nothing short of wonderful.
That game is really good
Wait, "Execution Melee Prompt"? As in, you run up to the Alien, grab them, and then execute them?
Why would you ever want to do that, aren't the aliens at their most dangerous when up close?
And what about their acid blood? How do you not get burned at point blank range?
ALIENS : COLONIAL MORTAL KOMBAT
Isn't that how Hicks got injured in the original movie?
I mean it's using the butt of the gun for blunt attacks, so it's doing blunt damage, which shouldn't make them bleed, but yeah, if you're close enough to melee that'd be a bad sign in actual aliens films and actually good games
Anyone getting the feel of Warhammer 40k Space Marines ??
not to be "THAT GUY" but the alien in the original film was intended to be as mortal as a human and maybe only marginally stronger. it was never meant to be "the terminator"
at least alien isolation was better
edit: holy shit people are still replying to this??
far better
that game has the true essence of a true horror game when it comes to hiding from the Xenomorph
I love Alien Isolation, it is so much better than Colonial Marines. And it's a great game in it's own right.
The button press simulator all you do is open doors in that game and the AI is trash for the Xenomorph.
Abel Villa not really. It's unpredictable to be honest. It has other ways to find you. I remembered doing that and scared the hell out of me through the vents.
"Game over..... man"
this and Umbrella Corps are the worst Shooters ever
***** True that!
Umbrella Corps is absolute shit. I hate that game and its stupid nose.
+MLG 007
Well, I do have standards. Even if I like some things many people may hate.
This is not one of those things.
Yup, worst FPS goes to this, umbrella can hold the Worst third person shooter title. possibly even worst co-op game.
I get this reference
So the game wasnt just a shitty game, it was a shitty game that copied another shitty game. Good video.
Shitception
At least FEAR 2 is fun, functional, and there are some standout levels (school anybody?). Aliens colonial marines has NONE of that!
F.E.A.R 2 has it's moments.
Well, FEAR2 wasn't ditched in pre-alpha state to an inexperienced small team in another state to finish the shit in half a year. So here's that.
Though I still think this is just a mistake and people tend to miss a lot of things during QA testing(like all things, QA isn't 100% guaranteed to fix everything, and neither are hotfixes)
So in essence, Gearbox didn't scrap the idea, they just messed up. And in programming, a single error can ruin the entire codex. Also, the main guys to throw shit at are actually SEGA, who left the game in Development Hell for many years.
\\The original design was about a tactical shooter where you lead a Marine Fire-Team and try to survive against hordes of aliens, including ones that would try to outflank you or find a way through your defences\\
Brothers in Aliens?
Yeah gearbox are assholes for what they did to this game!
They also stole funds from Sega to continue developing Borderlands 2 and other titles.
Wait so the original game idea was just Aliens Fireteam?!
First Daikatata, then Slaughtering Grounds, then Galactic Hitman, then Desert Gunner, and now this?
I feel sorry for you, DX. I really do.
That was the most artfully brutal assassination of a terrible game I think I have EVER saw! Lmiao. Great job, baby. 💜
Ehrisaia O'Shannon this game is terrible only because of glitcha
Not as bad as your grammar
Kijinn fucking corrector's everywhere
You. Have. NO IDEA how long I've waited for this. After a week back at boring as hell school, this is a massive relief. 30 minutes of ripping and tearing into Colonial Marines.
* see the start of the video*
Alien: I must go my people need me* super jumps into the sky*
Me:.......O-O........this game still finds away to brake even after all these years
Probably one of the worst big budget games out there
Its called "AAA"or "Triple A"
StockingFan15 at least Alien: Isolation was decent
Faulty Blue decent? You gotta be joking, that was the BEST alien game ever
you don't say
I play quake 4 on xbox 360 as I got it for around 4 dollors at game stop preowned still relatively clean
It’s some consolation. After all these years, at least failure now has a name. And that name is John Mulkey.
The powerloader fight was when I quit the game.
Also, I tried the corner tactic. The motherfucker just goes through the wall.
@@mephiston2152 bruh
anyone notice how the alien queen boss is basically a rip off of the tyrant battle in resident evil code veronica x?
As well as copying the final boss from F.E.A.R. 2.
I do not trust movie titles anymore
X men origins wolverine uncaged edition was good
And Spider-Man 2
And who could forget Goldeneye, and (in my opinion at least) Lego Star Wars?
***** If only the new Battlefront had the amount of content LST TFA had at launch at its own launch.
Yeah, I didn't like this game, either.
Even if I have no experience with first-person shooters, I have played games that are _better_ than this.
I played it just to see how bad it was.
William Gregg How bad. I never played and I want your opinion.
I played the game and I loved it especially playing online players Vs players
one thing that I noticed during this: "WHY THE HELL ARE THEIR BULLET RICOCHET'S ON XENO'S WHEN IT SHOULD BE ONLY BLOOD! This also happens on human armour!"
as for the guns, it's like your shooting either paintballs, or BB's!
I just liked this video and watched it twice, and they STILL didn't attack me
I fapped and they didn't even move.
I subbed to this guy AND THEY STILL DIDN'T ATTACK ME.
I jerked off THRICE and not only did they not attack, they TRIED FOLLOWING ME AND JERKING me off THEMSELVES!!!!
You know, it's kind of ironic that Gearbox fucked up the gunplay so badly in this game, but they made Borderlands 2 prior to this.
They where making both at same time, and it’s clear Gearbox was more interested in making their own IP than works on Aliens
Lmfao...."can u tell me ...wtf even happened here"
Bro what in the hell was that.
I still cant believe the aliens look so bad. It's just mind blowing honestly.
Some interesting facts on the issues you brought up :
No Bullet Tracers - Technically this is not true, they do actually have tracers, but the shader used to render them is bugged and distorts soo little you can't see them. They were supposed to look like the tracer effect from the Matrix where it distorts the world. I replaced them in my mod with proper white-hot tracers like normal games
Terrible Gun aiming - Some smart spark at Gearbox thought it was a good idea to add what they term 'Weapon Wandering' which is the simulation of you not being able to hold the gun still when aiming because of its wieght. I removed this 'feature' in my mod
Hit Detection - There is not actually any problem with the hit detection, it is entirely caused by the above weapon wandering. At long range, even just wandering a few pixels means your aim is off by meters. Only the weapon wanders, not the camera or firing point, so you adjust the camera to bring the sight in line with your target, but all you've done is move the firing point away from the target. You can't see the firing point when aiming. Absolutely terrible
Boilers - The are programmed to ignore you if you crouch. stupid
Wow, thank you for that incredible insight on the issues with this game. I can't fathom how broken this game is. I regret not trying out your mod until now but this game put me off so much that I honestly didn't think most of what was blatantly wrong and broken with the game could be fixed.
Years later, and this comment was used in the “Worst Games of the Decade” video. Legendary.
Jason Krueger “rushing” lel
paro pat It was actually rushed...
Olivia Williams 6 yr dev time and it sucks? wooooooow
I like how he refers to O'Neal as if he's his real life friend.
Honestly, I'd argue the Worst FPS Ever is Galactic Shitman, but to each their own
I hate that game, too. But I still think Colonial Marines is worse.
GH isnt even a game (it's a fradulent money-grab in game-like clothing), so it's not quite a fair comparison
+Sam Geuvenen Because Digital Homicide don't seem to care about making decent gameplay the way Gearbox does. Not to mention the high expectations Aliens: Colonial Marines had before its release.
"The worst FPS ever?" What happened to Daikatana?
Daikatana looks like Half-life 2 in comparison :P
Yeah, but he said before that Daikatana was the worst FPS he had ever played in his top 20 worst games list.

Kinda reminds me of Duke Nukem Forever in a sense.
DX: And i suppose you want me to tear it a new asshole
Me: Umm...YEAH!
This is another brilliant, hilarious review! Especially when the camera goes beserk..."Can you even tell me what the f**k happened here?"
They bought Michael Biehn back for this...
At least Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was better then this.
Dude far cry 3 blood dragon was the shit of course it's better than colonial marines (you know you do right when you reference predator right off the bat and also avp3 is better than colonial marines, just throwing that out there)
I almost brought this game at release. Thank god I didnt.
I wish I haven't.
This game is just so bad. Thank god I bought Alien Isolation.
I sadly brought it at release. Worst I expected it to be bad, but Angry Joe was so excited about it, he convinced me to buy pre-release.... I should have staid with my first impression
I *_preordered_* this *_shitshow_*
Actually they fixed it and also if you got the deluxe edition of the game you can get the weapons that Hudson talked about in the movie
dxfan i gotta thank you for one big thing you got me into trying F.E.A.R so i thank you also keep up the good work
Welcome to the FEAR club brotha
Lol I got the F.E.A.R. package because of DX as well and I was not disappointed
John Mulkey or whatever his name is should feel ashamed for ruining the experience of many, and should apologize publicly
Sorry it took me this long to have the balls to say this.
you like hearing a whiney guy complain about stupid things in games like the fact that ai take cover?
More than I like hearing you whine about your flawed reasoning.
15:51 I almost died! "COVER ME!" 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
how cool is that,at the exact moment it happened I've started reading your comment.Lol.
I couldn't really pinpoint why it was so awful but man, did you nail it
The saddest thing is that if if someone announces another alien action game, people are going to freak out about it because of this game.
John Mulkey designed Battleborn? Huh, no wonder nobody played that game
Shots fired
I was more into Overwatch, anyway.
Asuna Yuuki myself included. Still better than that and CoD
I...I like battleborn.
I think the developers of Redfall saw this video and thought: "worst FPS ever, you say? Challenge accepted!"
Play some Horizon Zero Dawn; you'll feel better.
Holy shit, DX. You blew my mind!
"Then started to yell out commands, like 'Cover me!' ... What the FUCK?!" Lost it right there. Great video. Broken fucking game.
FEAR 2 was quite a good game, btw, a total winner in level design, at least.
F.E.A.R 2 was at least playable and pretty fun at times. This game was frustrating to play.
still not as bad as superman 64
When you made the similarities to FEAR 2 I was surprised! But I still liked FEAR 2
I loved the school scene. But the first just felt right, there's no qtes, the final level felt right with no levers, and the dual pistols were so satisfying.
I hear you. I had more fun and scares from the first one
I'm with you man FEAR 2 is a good game
And so what, if u have a thing for the alien franchise u will love this game especially if u grown up with the first movies from 79, 86 & 92. I’ll give it 9/10 and thinks it’s pretty damn awesome 👏
For a dollar it's a bargain.
I wouldn't buy it for a dollar.
I'd rather buy the 2014 Robocop movie with that dollar.
For a dollar you could buy candy instead this crap shack of a game.
Lol not at all. I paid $6 for it and I'd rather have bought fast food with it instead. I got to level 3 and I never played this game again because it was just that bad.
Deadsea1993 Gaming So... nothing in the game was enjoyable at all?
For a dollar it'd be incredibly overpriced, even for free I would say it costs too much.
Honestly, it gave me a Duke Nukem Forever vibe as I was watching the vide (as both Colonial Marines and DNF use the same engine and have almost the same design). I didn't expect that it would have more relation to FEAR.
I like this guy lol. The way he tears this game apart is freaken hilarious!
15:11 even that boiler wanted out of this game 😂😂😂👽👾
You should play vanquish to make yourself feel better. Great underrated game
you gotta make some shirts idk what they say but if I had to say it should say horrendous in cringey font
Thank fuck for Creative Assembly.
This game is a masterpiece and you know it.......
:^)
the fact that they try to sell it as a cannon sequel of aliens make it 200% worst, they could have find developers who care about the movies
HOLY SHIT
He's right about John Mulkey. Like holy fuck balls I had no idea. That explains so much
Aliens Colonial Marines is badass hes just mad because he cant play as well as me
Raptin Shut up you weeb
its not that shit. Battle front 3 is shit.
Trollzyn/Trazyn Battlefront 3 was never released.
g
I think he really is..... Half his complaints boiled down to "its too realistic". The sway thing is realistic. The sprinting is realistic. Lot of his complaints were ones that youd experience in real life.
Agreed upon until the part about console and controller inferiority. Honestly, an Aliens FPS should be slower if you're playing as a human and console focused FPS games definitely exist. Now, if you're playing a more arcade-like FPS like Quake or DOOM, then mouse and keyboard is the way to go.
Awesome vid DX👍👍👍
At least AVP 3 was great.
far better
I will stay with AvP2...
I remember my wife and I having the time of our lives playing this game. Lol
Yeah. I think some people should give it another chance and then decide if it's bad or not for them. Like I said, I still enjoyed the hell out of it.
Alex Zandate You're one of the rare weirdos who liked it. There is good reason this game was trashed in reviews, it is because it is trash.
Wait. You're telling me this game has mods?
Jacko Ludvich Ah yes. Because liking a game that was hated by a majority makes me and many others a "weirdo". Get out of here with that flawed logic.
The problem with the swaying is not only that it makes aiming more difficult, but what breaks the whole shooting mechanic is that *the bullets still go on a straight line WITHOUT TAKING INTO ACCOUNT the swaying* xd it's a pretty heavy oversight.
I loved this game. I thought the story was one of the best from last gen and the gameplay was pretty tight too. Hope they make a sequel one day
The game was buggy for sure and didn't possess the graphics what was promised but by no means it's the worst fps ever.
Haven't played ACM. But I did play a little Fallout 76. I wonder which is worse.
For the best ALIENS experience, I recommend AVP Classic 2000 with the new skin mods and AVP 3.
Oh....and ALIENS on the Nintendo DS.
It's super fun and Canon.
At least the new alien designs look pretty good, especially the Spitter
6:02 - Also, if you look at videos of people getting shot for real, there usually isn't a cartoon explosion of blood the same instant the person is struck with a bullet. Especially if you're firing at them from a distance, there might be no visual clue your bullet hit them. They might even be so pumped with adrenaline that they keep doing what they were doing in spite of being shot.
Gearbox, wtf did you guys do...?
I find it hard to believe Gearbox created Duke Nukem Forever, and THIS. These are the same guys behind the Borderlands series and that series is fucking fantastic! (Tough I doubt DX has ever played Borderlands, so he is only seeing their bad side :/)
In fact, Gearbox makes me see them in a similar light to Acclaim that, they have created very good games that were well received at the time (Turok Dinosaur Hunter), and also trash (Bubsy, and also to an extent: South park the video game)
That sounds so horrendous.
DXFan619 It's honestly the worst boss fight I've ever experienced in my history of gaming :(
My condolences.
Thank you
