Beginner OG here! I'm 47 years old and just started skating after never being on a skateboard ever before. In my life. Ten weeks down the road now. I skate alone all the time, because there are no OGs in my area at all. That being said, I go to skate parks and everyone is so friendly, encouraging and helpful. I also got injured twice already trying stuff way over my skill level. And that's going to happen if you push yourself too hard. Yes, you'll fall and may even injure yourself, but you can get really badly hurt if you are trying too hard to progress beyond yourself. The best advice I got from some Homies I met online is to enjoy the process. Just go out there, and skate. Have fun! Push yourself to learn in baby steps every time you go and before you know it, you'll be somewhere you never thought possible. The first couple of times I went out, I was like, "this is IMPOSSIBLE! I'll NEVER be able to push myself around!!" And here I am, 10 weeks later carving all over the parking lot I practice at, pushing myself around like a champ! HAVE FUN!! Best. Advice. Ever.

      Don’t be afraid:
I am 33 and startet again, lost all my muscle memory, but what I can say: I know it sounds boring but just keep riding around, to the bus/subway, etc - even if it feels like there is no progress, after 2 weeks you’ll feel major improvement and from there, anything is possible …

I just now got comfortable after 3 years on my skateboard! My biggest tip to anyone who's new to skateboarding would be to follow Aarons advice of getting comfortable riding around and bending your knees. At first it feels impossible to hold your balance when rolling but the longer you practice it becomes way more natural to roll than do stuff stationary. Bend your knees and always commit! It gets more and more fun the better you become. :D

Hey, I just wanted to thank you guys for this video! My friend wanted me to go skating with them yesterday. I have a lot of social anxiety and have never been the athletic type, so I was really scared of trying. But then I started watching your videos and you have such a chill vibe that it made me feel less scared. Seing experienced skaters fall made me realise that it's part of the process. If I fall, that doesn't mean I shouldn't try again. So we went skating yesterday and it was super fun! I'm so happy that I challenged my own fears and tried it. Like, when I "got it", the world around me turned silent and it was just me and the board. I felt so free. We're going skating again next week, and I'm already looking forward to it ☺️

OH MY THANK YOU FOR THIS. I just made significant progress. As in, went from shaking in terror to being able to keep my front foot on the board and push a couple times in a row. THANK YOU.
Can I suggest linking this from the original video for beginners? I came here from that and this one was a lot more helpful.
    Specific things that helped me:
    - Reminder that of course this isn't going to be easy at first
    - Making me think about which foot to have forward. I thought I was sure that it should be my left foot, and it felt *okay*, but I started thinking and then realized right foot forward is so much more steady.
    - The idea to not even worry about getting the back foot on at first, and just push a few times.
    - The thinking of pushing as walking. I first got a little bit comfortable when I walked up to the board and just stepped on and let my momentum go. That showed me that I could do it. I wasn't even planning to step on the first time I did that, just to check my distance, but the momentum figuratively and literally carried me forward.

Fast forward over a decade, and I'm re-teaching myself how to ride on an arbor pilsner now at 30, hoping that it'll help my commute to my college from the metro rail station I take. I'm back at school getting another degree too since I didn't like anything my first one led me to.
