I also had the same experience when I started skating at 21 years old. I'm 27 now and I just started learning the guitar. I can hardly switch chords but I know Feeling embarrassed by not immediately possessing the skill to do the thing perfectly is alright. I practice it anyway cause seeing the improvement feels very rewarding!
@@XunlimiteD101 I also started learning how to play the guitar. It can be very frustrating. But as you said seeing the improvement is really rewarding!
I'm 28 and feeling the same. I moved to Budapest a month ago, and this city just wants me to cruise around. So I got my cruiser board (after 15 years of nothing) and it was an awesome feeling to stand on a board again. I failed after a kilometer, and got some bruises and some small sprains, so I need a few days for healing but I will get back on it, because I want to do it and it makes me feel good.

So sad to hear about him passing from cancer. He would've been pleasantly surprised to see how his skate videos surpassed all his other videos. 1 million views from such a chill skate tutorial. RIP.
“Anyone who skates has to not care what other people think” This is great advice. I’m a new skater in my 30s and it felt awkward to be my age skating around the neighborhood like an infant trying to learn to walk. Eventually I stopped caring and didn’t let it kill the vibe.
I am 53 and just bought a longboard and learning the basics 1st day. I can feel the respect people have when i look at them and they greet me. I have a motorcycle but I need more extreme hobby to keep in shape and stay young.
56 year old woman here and yes my 19yr old skateboarding son thinks I’m insane but I’m secretly googling skateboarding tutorials. Yours was the ONLY one geared to adults. THANK YOU!!! Skateboarding for adults taught by a regular adult. No-one is doing this. More please!!!😀
HA! I will be 56 in a month and my 19-year-old son thinks skateboards are death on 4 wheels. This might be a good time to mention I ride motorcycles too. I've wanted a dancing longboard for as long as I can remember. Maybe I'll get one for my birthday!
Bro If my mom started skating Id be encouraging it with all my heart😂. Id just make sure she's safe and prepared. Its a weird coincidence but my mom is 56 and Im 19. What are the chances
I've just turned 60 and did a lot of skateboarding when l was a young bloke - This video made me dust off my old board and see how l'd go after 40 years of absence - Went pretty good too - Bit like riding a bike once you've learnt you never forget - Hell l even pulled off my favourite trick again second try - A Rolling Handstand 🖐️🙃✋
It's funny, I can't find beginner skateboard videos aimed at 8 to 12 year olds. They all seem to be aimed at like 5 year olds or adults. 8- 12 year olds have a much different attitude and attention span. They don't listen as well and it takes special little exercises for them to work on. Any direction on good instructional videos aimed at how to teach 8 to 12 year olds would be appreciated.
I watched this video a couple years ago when I was learning how to skate and it was super helpful. Algorithm decided to put it back into my feed today so I checked it out for old time sake. After some looking around I learned Ray sadly passed away not even a year after posting this wonderful tutorial. I hope he's still cruising wherever he is and may he rest in peace.
I’ve been skating for 12 years and never have I seen someone try to teach older people/people who never learned as a kid how to skate. I appreciate what your doing since nobody is trying to show people who have no interest in tricks how to simply not push mongo or stop correctly.
Man I’m going through it now. I’m 30 but I’ve always wanted to skate but never had the means. Now I just bought a board and don’t know where to begin and everything is tailored towards kids like he said.
So true... Time goes real quick. One minute I am 17 with my mates trying all kind of stupid tricks, next minute I am 46 with a wife, 2 kids and a mortgage and all my skate stuff in the attic. Great video.. really enjoyed it.
Hello thank you so much. I learned in the '80s myself and I didn't get back into skating until about 5 years ago. Just remember to take it slow and you have nothing to prove, it's good to have a physical hobby and the reflexes it takes to balance on a skateboard can help you in other ways also. Thanks for taking the time to check this out and comment
54. The hardest thing is to grasp that skills go away, and falling has worst consequences... Just having fun and not wanting to push the limit is *hard*...
I'm 53 and getting back into it through this street ride cruising stuff, go for it, it all comes back real quick and still feels as good as it ever did.
Hey thank you so much. I always try to remember those that most people don't think about when I make a video. I'm 48 by the way. Please keep in touch and let me know how you progress
Same! I'm 33. I just started today and fell two times already 😂 it didn't hurt, and I proudly showed me scraped knee to my toddler (I'm off to buy protection now lol). So far so fun!
My man, I'm 35 but grew up skating and I have to give you the most credit for pointing out the most basic stuff that I myself would have overlooked if trying to teach an adult how to skate. I truly appreciate how you know the craft behind skating.
Fun fact is that it's called "goofy" cuz in an old Disney short Goofy was surfing and the way they drew him to face the frame was opposite to what most people face; thus the phrase goofy was coined🤙
I'm goofy footed, I thought of it as a compliment, born different haha. Just got a long board at 53 getting the confidence back one hill at a time, looking for a cruiser next. Feels great to see adults enjoying the ''skatey.'' This video explains the very basics I've been using as soon as I jumped back on, they're ingrained in my riding.
@@jacobmotosicky439 that is what the most people think, but goofy wasn't riding just with the right foot in front, he always rode facing the audience, so he was riding regular too. here can you read if you want :) radratvideo.com/goofy-stance-come/
I'm 70 in July! I was a skier, snowboarder in the 90's,/2000's, and I ride my scooter around Berlin when ever I go out on, unless I take the bike! What a brilliant tutorial for all you oldies trying this for the 1st time. This guy is so easy to listen to, and really gives great advice for all novices! Nice to see the out-takes at the end. Shows you that this guy's real!
Today I got this video mentioned in my feed. I am a woman of 58 and started skateboarding for the first time of my life in 2019, at 57. Indeed there are little to no tutorials catered for older grown ups who are starting with this sport. I really like how you cover all the things we will encouter, sooner or later. I must say I get a lot of positive feedback from young kids to older skateboarders when I am in a skatepark. Skatelessons are helping me a lot too and I love the skatevibe during those evenings, full of adults who are learning to skateboard. It is great sport, enabling me to unwind like no other sport has ever done.
As a younger skater, I have much respect for teaching older generations how to skate. It's a great sport and videos like this help create skate communities! Cheers 🍻
Thank you so much for this. 43 year old woman here, in the UK - learning with my 7 year old son. Your video has been enormously helpful to me. I love your teaching style. Much respect, thank you.
I didn't start skating until I was 33. I was in Venice Beach and saw a man who looked like he was in his sixties skating. That encouraged me to learn. Best thing I could have done. I'm 44 now and have no plans of quitting.
I'm 37 and my daughter is learning, she's getting good ,but I'm going to start trying to teach myself then one day at the skate park jump on her board and hopefully she'll be shocked I can do it...well that's the plan if I don't break my neck 😂😂
haha oh no lol. hey man yeah my son showed me how he does speed bumps , he lifts the front wheel going over them fast and jumps as the back wheel hits it and the back of the board bounces off the bump and he lands and keeps moving. I dont have the guts to try that but the "step down take weight off board foot" technique should help. another thing I dont like are the yellow bumpy things at every crosswalk, they will throw you off if you hit them too fast.
@@flapjack4886 you just gotta grind at it man. Even just standing on it helps. Once you get comfortable just standing and doing tic tacs, the rest comes fairly easy.
I'm in my early 30s, and wanted to learn how to skate since I was 16 years old (but was too afraid to try.) Today, I finally got a longboard, and your video has been so helpful! Thank you! I'll rewatch it a bunch of times throughout the next days/weeks!
The best skate tutorials are the ones without the ego and annoying stereotypes of the skate culture. Thank you for you’re thoughtful approach to this. This is the best thing I’ve seen on RUclips today. Like you said earlier, the goal of skateboarding for me is to just cruise and enjoy the ride like I do when I’m surfing.
I am so glad to have found this video...I have this beautiful longboard sitting in my closet that I bought for my daughter, and I am determined to try it this year myself since I've lost some weight and I don't feel as self-conscious.
Get out and ride that board ....I expect a response! Im 47 never stopped skating totally since the 80"s, though I have renewed my determination to skate more recently and it's always a good time, progress daily, baby steps. (And get some pads..)
Hello, I'm a 58 year old beginner in UK. I've been watching a load of skate videos but I have to say i really enjoyed watching your's... I knew all the points that you make, but that doesn't matter, you put it across so well and you really show how enjoyable skating is..I want to just cruise but you already know that.... Thanks for making this video, we may never meet but we know each other,,,,,cheers
This has to be one of the best YT tutorials I have seen, hands down. It's comprehensive, educational, lacks filler, has humor...not to mention the tight editing and superior sound. It makes me want to give that long board I got last Christmas another try.
Thank you! I'm just learning at 47 and your video is exactly what I needed. You make it seem possible and chill. It feels so good to ride. Thanks for your help.
hey man you got this, skating is so much fun, the best times ive had on a skate board is going around a park with smooth concrete and just going in circles with some music on! maybe get some friends in to it aswell because that always make the session that much better!
This might be the most approachable video I've ever seen for learning to skate. Done with love, thoughtfulness and good insight to the hang ups people who already skate take for granted. Well done.
I just bought a 26” cruise board to commute from rail station to my office. I’m 41 and my wife told me I’m crazy and will end up hitting the ground. Then I found this video and I’m glad to see I’m not the only fool on the planet. Thanks man, I really enjoyed this content and compliments for the easy explanation!
If you didn't know this already, learning to ollie or do other tricks is way easier if you're on grass. The board won't shoot out from under you and grass is way more forgiving than pavement if/when you wipe out.
Im 37 and have been skating since i was about 12. I still skate pretty often, both street and at parks and i have to say that I love this video and watched the entire thing. This guy is great!
I’m 63 and starting to use the skateboard again to encourage my grandchildren to keep fit so the skateboarding is a good way rather having them play games in front of the TV… Like your video 👍
I don't think so much. My dad was a hardcore rough teacher bless his heart so maybe I'm unconsciously trying to be the opposite. Really glad this was helpful I have like a hundred videos on my channel and this might be the most appreciated and commented on. Really cool
I’m a kid but I’m not very athletic so this was super helpful.. thanks also I really appreciate the lil tip for female skaters, I was pretty nervous about that lol
Hey thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. Means a lot, took me over a month to shoot and edit this. I'm not too athletic either, notice I did no tricks lol. Let me know how you progress ☺️
I've watched this five times or more....it's so cool and very inspiring. I'm 51 and have just bought my first board. After a couple of seshs which I thoroughly enjoyed, I'm progressing exponentially and I love it! Also, I teach guitar and tell all my students that it does not matter when you start, (as a lot of people think they would have achieved more if they had started fresh out of nappies!) all that matters is your desire and drive to do it and you will achieve it. I'm going to prove this by becoming a competent skater, even though I have started in my fifties.
I'm a late 30's Dad to an amazing daughter and she wanted to learn to skateboard. I've never tried so I bought us boards and safety gear. I'm trying to teach both of us. I'm glad for channels like this. I'm enjoying the process with her. Good luck out there folks.
I am exactly in the same position! I have got my son his first skateboard and have been contemplating whether I should get myself one! Thanks for sharing. I am about to order one for myself now. Hope all is going well at your end.
This was one of the easiest, most all around helpful tutorial videos I have ever watched on RUclips! Your relaxed style makes it seem like anyone can do it..just got my 8 yo daughter a longboard and a stubby for her birthday. I have always wanted to skate, but have never done it (but did snowboard in my college years)...so, at almost 40...I am gonna give it a whirl (after getting protective gear, of course)! Thanks for the great info!! Keep it up!😊
Hello thank you and I'm glad it was helpful. The fact that you did some snowboarding means you have some of the balance reflexes already. There's a Facebook group I think it's called very old skateboarders that I joined also, lots of much older people there doing cool stuff. Let me know how it goes with you
i gotta say, as someone who clicked on this video out of curiosity mostly because i’m a 30yr old who has been skating since i was 10, the part about skate culture and skate parks being very non judgemental and especially not bothering women who are skating or learning to skate is very true in my experience. i have very often seen women or younger girls learning to skate at my local parks and the only thing i have ever heard any of the guys who are regulars there say to them is something along the lines of “you should turn your head to follow your body when you try that” or “it helps if you keep your shoulders directly above your knees”. just useful advice they would give to anyone. skaters are very inclusive for the most part (there’s always some bad eggs, they get corrected quickly by everyone else though) and as long as you are putting in the effort and seriously trying to learn to skate and not just taking pictures at the park without actually skating, no one will say anything except encouraging or helpful words. skate culture is very unique in that there are very few gatekeepy types/attitudes. we want everyone to experience the joy of skating, and everyone is welcome to learn. the people who are experienced skaters are happy to pass on their knowledge and they all recognize that at one point they were in the exact same situation as the person learning and it brings them back to how amazing it felt when they landed their first kickflip or finally committed to a drop in for the first time. we want everyone to experience the joy we felt learning to skate and because of that, will never laugh at someone learning, and will always offer help if requested. we also recognize that it’s a very male dominated culture and in order to branch out from that we have to not be creepy weirdos to every woman at the park, so we just leave it alone, and treat women/girls at the skatepark the same as we would anyone else. never be afraid to go to your local park. i know it can seem intimidating but just be genuine. the only people skaters can’t stand are people attempting to use skate culture for aesthetic reasons without respecting the culture/people that created those aesthetic choices. skateboarding was invented by weirdo outcasts, to connect with other weirdo outcasts, and as a result, we never want to oust people from the scene without an extremely good reason.
This was a great video, thank you! As a 37 yo plus size woman who never set foot on any sort of board until a few weeks ago, I am always kind of afraid people are laughing at me, but I’m trying it anyway. Lots of great tips here for the basics 😊
I started learning 37 and plus size. I realized that most of the fear was in my head. People at the park actually don't care(not in a bad way), they're just happy to see a new face. Keep going. We got this 👍🏾
Man, this is by far the best tutorial for adults. It's exactly what I went through and I see all my mistakes now and I had a lot of bad falls too. I think I am an adult now by government definition probably but still a kid at heart. I never was in the skateboard, culture growing up, and couldn't afford a skateboard either. I will get learning again and follow these life-saving tips.
Hahaha thanks so much, that's the best compliment. With youtube it's always best I found to make videos you're passionate about so it will come natural
This man is the most wholesome person ever and his skate content is wholesome af. Hopefully with skateboarding going into olympics, it will become popular and we'll see a whole family not riding bicycle in the weekends but cruising on a skateboard.

My brother was semi pro 15-20 years ago, and we have stayed very connected to the skateboard community locally. As a woman I love your shout out to women! 20 years ago I never saw another woman in the skate crowd. Now I do! I may have learned to skate back then if….
Here’s the biggest tip of all…. if you think something is too extreme for you/you’re not in the mood to take a risk and hurt yourself, DO NOT be afraid to slow down, jump off, and step around an obstacle. That one really deep crack in the sidewalk? If you feel like it’ll catch your wheel and make you fall or get hurt, Simply don’t ride over it. Screw what anybody else thinks. Dont let anybody question you about “ha you couldn’t ride over that?” You ride where and how you’re comfortable. If the pavement is too rough, and you think there are too many rocks, So be it. You can’t tide over everything. Learning that early is key to having minimal wipeouts. Hell yeah i get off my board to avoid steep hills (or just hills that put me at a speed im not comfortable riding at… thats steep to me, and thats what matters) SAFETY FIRST. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. Thats the safest thing you can do, is keep that in mind. You CAN SAY NO to anything you feel is too extreme. Flat ground or not. Theres no shame in acknowledging your limits.
I got my first longboard today and seeing a bunch of young kids skate in the park made me think maybe I'm starting too late, but this video made me feel everything's gonna go just fine!
I am a 40+ mom that has wanted to learn how to skate forever, but I never got the courage to ask anyone that already did it and was petrified of trying on my own with no idea how to pick out a board just for cruising. I love this! Thank you!
Hello Melanie thanks so much that means a lot. I'm excited for you. Best thng is to just get started and doing one push and seeing how long you can balance. Do that half HR everyday and in a few weeks you will be on your way. Plz let me know how you progress, respect ✌🏾

Son, this is a great video. I wish I watched it before ending up on emergency twice within a 5 month period. I started skating at 37 because I didn’t want to die having never skated. Now I commute to work on a Landyachtz Dinghy a couple of days a week. I really learned to skate the open roads during Covid through lockdown...one of the best decisions I have ever made as I’ve reduced the use of a car. Anyway thanks for your video!

I thoroughly enjoyed this video, which was randomly recommended for me. I'm also a photographer, and like skateboarding, so I suppose it was a natural video for RUclips to recommend. I was struck by how warm and friendly this man is, and ended up watching this whole video instead of editing photos. He was also a very talented photographer. I'm very sorry to learn of his passing, and my sincere condolences to his family for their loss.

He passed away 2 years ago😭😭😭( I found this news on his IG)
He really did excellent video to teaching adults how to skate. I'm totally his fan after only watching this video.
R.I.P.
RIP
What!!!! That is CRAZY
Wow 😢 that's so shocking to hear! So sad 😞 he seemed like such a kind-hearted man. May God bless him and may he rest in peace ✝️🙏🏻
30? 53? 😂😂😂 I’m 71. Keep trucking 🎉
😂😂Me too .. my husband gave me a longboard for my 40th birthday. 😂
I'm a woman in my 40s learning to skate. I was on the board for the first time in my life today, and it was the most fun thing I have done in ages.
Welcome to the 40 something club loooool
Well done! What an inspiration
Hell yeah! Hope you’re sticking with it!
I just turned 40 and just got a skateboard, this made me happy
Love to hear this! How's your progress so far?
I watched this video a couple years ago when I was learning how to skate and it was super helpful. Algorithm decided to put it back into my feed today so I checked it out for old time sake.
After some looking around I learned Ray sadly passed away not even a year after posting this wonderful tutorial.
I hope he's still cruising wherever he is and may he rest in peace.

Bro what? How did he die?? I just found this video at 37 and wanting to try something new
Omgosh 😭😭😭. I just came back to this video bc I finally started to actually learn.
Please tell me you’re trolling…
What?! Nooo!

Hey thank you so much. I always try to remember those that most people don't think about when I make a video. I'm 48 by the way. Please keep in touch and let me know how you progress

Same. And I started about 2 years ago. I have to say this is not easy to learn at all. But it’s a lot of fun.

My man, I'm 35 but grew up skating and I have to give you the most credit for pointing out the most basic stuff that I myself would have overlooked if trying to teach an adult how to skate. I truly appreciate how you know the craft behind skating.
You, sir, are the Bob Ross of Skateboarding. I could watch your videos for hours. Your encouragement and explanations are great.
thats actually a good comparison :)
Hah! That’s awesome. I just said the same thing 👍🏻
"It's called goofy, it's not an insult..." Supersweet!
Hahaha lol thanks, yes skate lingo is a comedy in itself
Fun fact is that it's called "goofy" cuz in an old Disney short Goofy was surfing and the way they drew him to face the frame was opposite to what most people face; thus the phrase goofy was coined🤙
I'm goofy footed, I thought of it as a compliment, born different haha. Just got a long board at 53 getting the confidence back one hill at a time, looking for a cruiser next. Feels great to see adults enjoying the ''skatey.'' This video explains the very basics I've been using as soon as I jumped back on, they're ingrained in my riding.
@@jacobmotosicky439 I hope this is true - if so that's the best fact I've learned today
@@jacobmotosicky439 that is what the most people think, but goofy wasn't riding just with the right foot in front, he always rode facing the audience, so he was riding regular too.

I just started at 36 and I love it!!!
Triple, nice to hear!...I'm 55 and I skated some when I was a kid. I'm looking to trying again.
Go Show o Triple 19, some love on her channel! She shreds!
Could have been this guy. But even if it wasn't, here's another awesome older skateboarder.

I'm 37 and my daughter is learning, she's getting good ,but I'm going to start trying to teach myself then one day at the skate park jump on her board and hopefully she'll be shocked I can do it...well that's the plan if I don't break my neck 😂😂
Old dude watching with bloody elbows 😁 -- longboard and speed bump didn't agree with each other yesterday
haha oh no lol. hey man yeah my son showed me how he does speed bumps , he lifts the front wheel going over them fast and jumps as the back wheel hits it and the back of the board bounces off the bump and he lands and keeps moving. I dont have the guts to try that but the "step down take weight off board foot" technique should help. another thing I dont like are the yellow bumpy things at every crosswalk, they will throw you off if you hit them too fast.
Cool !
I’m 37 and you just inspired me to go out and do it. I’m literally on my way to the skate shop right now to get started. Keep up the great work!

I got myself a longboard for my 38th birthday. How’s your skating journey?
How has the longboat fitted into your life? Do you ride it to work or only cruise it tobthe skatepark and back?
The best skate tutorials are the ones without the ego and annoying stereotypes of the skate culture. Thank you for you’re thoughtful approach to this. This is the best thing I’ve seen on RUclips today. Like you said earlier, the goal of skateboarding for me is to just cruise and enjoy the ride like I do when I’m surfing.
I am so glad to have found this video...I have this beautiful longboard sitting in my closet that I bought for my daughter, and I am determined to try it this year myself since I've lost some weight and I don't feel as self-conscious.

Hello Kev thanks so much. You don't realize it but you got me emotional with what you said. Wow. Respect
This has to be one of the best YT tutorials I have seen, hands down. It's comprehensive, educational, lacks filler, has humor...not to mention the tight editing and superior sound. It makes me want to give that long board I got last Christmas another try.

hey man you got this, skating is so much fun, the best times ive had on a skate board is going around a park with smooth concrete and just going in circles with some music on! maybe get some friends in to it aswell because that always make the session that much better!
Same! :) It's a very relaxed, sensible approach to just learn cruising. Most coaches I know skip many of these steps :O
I needed this man, I’m 45 y/o and needed this so I can learn with my 8 year old. Thank you!

The fact that you did some snowboarding means you have some of the balance reflexes already. i gotta say, as someone who clicked on this video out of curiosity mostly because i’m a 30yr old who has been skating since i was 10, the part about skate culture and skate parks being very non judgemental and especially not bothering women who are skating or learning to skate is very true in my experience. i have very often seen women or younger girls learning to skate at my local parks and the only thing i have ever heard any of the guys who are regulars there say to them is something along the lines of “you should turn your head to follow your body when you try that” or “it helps if you keep your shoulders directly above your knees”. just useful advice they would give to anyone. skaters are very inclusive for the most part (there’s always some bad eggs, they get corrected quickly by everyone else though) and as long as you are putting in the effort and seriously trying to learn to skate and not just taking pictures at the park without actually skating, no one will say anything except encouraging or helpful words. skate culture is very unique in that there are very few gatekeepy types/attitudes. we want everyone to experience the joy of skating, and everyone is welcome to learn. the people who are experienced skaters are happy to pass on their knowledge and they all recognize that at one point they were in the exact same situation as the person learning and it brings them back to how amazing it felt when they landed their first kickflip or finally committed to a drop in for the first time. we want everyone to experience the joy we felt learning to skate and because of that, will never laugh at someone learning, and will always offer help if requested. we also recognize that it’s a very male dominated culture and in order to branch out from that we have to not be creepy weirdos to every woman at the park, so we just leave it alone, and treat women/girls at the skatepark the same as we would anyone else.
never be afraid to go to your local park.
i know it can seem intimidating but just be genuine. the only people skaters can’t stand are people attempting to use skate culture for aesthetic reasons without respecting the culture/people that created those aesthetic choices.
skateboarding was invented by weirdo outcasts, to connect with other weirdo outcasts, and as a result, we never want to oust people from the scene without an extremely good reason.
This was a great video, thank you! As a 37 yo plus size woman who never set foot on any sort of board until a few weeks ago, I am always kind of afraid people are laughing at me, but I’m trying it anyway. Lots of great tips here for the basics 😊
I'm a 36 year old plus size gal learning to skateboard too... go for it, you legend!
I started learning 37 and plus size. I realized that most of the fear was in my head. People at the park actually don't care(not in a bad way), they're just happy to see a new face. Keep going. We got this 👍🏾

I’m 40 and just won my first skateboard 2 days ago! I decided it was the universe telling me it’s time to learn.
My brother was semi pro 15-20 years ago, and we have stayed very connected to the skateboard community locally. As a woman I love your shout out to women! 20 years ago I never saw another woman in the skate crowd. Now I do! I may have learned to skate back then if….
Germany, 42 yo, - you closed the gap between teenage stunt crasher and "am i already THIS old?"
i'm about to pick one right now - and i'm thrilled :D
Here’s the biggest tip of all….
if you think something is too extreme for you/you’re not in the mood to take a risk and hurt yourself,
DO NOT be afraid to slow down, jump off, and step around an obstacle.
That one really deep crack in the sidewalk?
If you feel like it’ll catch your wheel and make you fall or get hurt,
Simply don’t ride over it.
Screw what anybody else thinks.
Dont let anybody question you about “ha you couldn’t ride over that?”
You ride where and how you’re comfortable.
If the pavement is too rough, and you think there are too many rocks,
So be it.
You can’t tide over everything.
Learning that early is key to having minimal wipeouts.
Hell yeah i get off my board to avoid steep hills (or just hills that put me at a speed im not comfortable riding at… thats steep to me, and thats what matters)
SAFETY FIRST.
You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do.
Thats the safest thing you can do, is keep that in mind.
You CAN SAY NO to anything you feel is too extreme. Flat ground or not.
Theres no shame in acknowledging your limits.
Well, I’m 64 and found this tutorial really informative, so thanks for giving me the confidence to get out there and do it! 👍🎸

I was expecting this video to be corny but it's actually a great video for beginners. Good job!
From an adult longboarder to another adult skater, thanks for this video and best regards
from Germany!
Awesome Patrick thanks and so glad it was helpful 😊
What an awesome video. Such great advice, delivered with such amazing poise.
As a 47 year old making his way back to skating after... 35 years, I really appreciate the calmness and attention to detail.
Great, great stuff.
Thank you. I like how you emphasise safety and how you make it an accessible means of transport that doesn't have to kill you. I'm 47 and want to get back into this hobby. The last time I was on a skateboard I was 14 years old.
Thanks for this, yes I’m a grown up & last time I was on a board I was 9 & busted myself. My gf recently bought me a really nice board, Houston Boards, & it’s been sitting by my tv.
This tutorial really helps give me the basic idea how to learn to ride, thank
You 🎉
Very comprehensive instructions. Thank you. I’m a 51 year old female and I bought a skateboard board and I’m determined to learn. Thanks for the encouragement to female skaters.
It doesn't matter what level you are, as soon as you get on a board you're a skater. I'm 27 and been skating for years but if I was learning now this would be the perfect tutorial. Falling down hurts!
Thanks for this. I'm 40 and always wanted to skate but recent years felt I'd missed the boat. Before watching this I'd just decided to book my first lesson as a "YOLO" decision. This video (and all the comments) has given me much encouragement to do this! Subbed. 🙏🏽
How are you doing now?
Love the lighthearted demeanor. I keep bracing for some dry humor, but it never comes
This was exactly the video I needed to see! I didn't know I needed this but getting to see a guy roughly my age (I assume) and with a really similar build to me talk about how this is something I can do and the way you calmly demonstrate all of the skills I want to master, just really made me feel positive and hopeful. Thanks for making this man. Excited to add skating to my city commute repertoire.
Awesome bro thanks so much. glad it was helpful, let me know how you do and be safe
"We're going to teach you how to skate without killing yourself"... all I'm asking for 😁 Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it!!
How'd you do

This is so great. I have been skateboarding since I was 5 and now I'm 40 and still going strong. I've done it all from handrails to half pipes to bowls and all the flip tricks and grinds. Everything he says here is bang-on, and he's got a great style of skateboarding. When I skate now, I skate a lot like he does.
Started skating this month and messed up my face some time ago :D there might be scars but i still like skating) dont overestimate yourself, wear protection and skate safe
Thank you for the vid! Your intro makes me feel better about getting out there and cruising around.
I’m a 36 year old dad of 3 and I bought a longboard to get out and be more active as an alternative to jogging. I’ve been getting out every day and boarding. My gf ordered herself and her daughters one and my oldest bought himself one. Can’t wait to get out and skate!
I am 41 and have decided to learn to skate, this video was super helpful and inspirational! Thank you for all of the tips and tricks and just generally making it chill and normal for people to learn at any age! :)
Such a great video Ray, I started skating 2 months ago at 41 years old and honestly, it's one of the best things that's ever happened to me. Great content, keep it up!
Awesome thanks so much
36 years old and getting back into skating. Many thanks for the excellent, thoughtful content and high production value.
Great video, thank you! I've started longboard just 2 weeks ago. Most tutorials are from short skinny men, and it's definitely inspiring to see a big dude (about my size) riding the board and giving advices.
Great content! I'm 56 and my son is learning, after seeing this I feel okay in getting a board too. Great tip about the wheel size btw👍
I'm a 33-year-old woman and just found your video. I've wanted to learn to skate for years and never had the courage. Thank you so much for making it accessible to people like me. I just ordered my first board, pads, and helmet and I can't wait to start.
Thank you for the video! I'm learning how to skate at 40 years old. I found your video very helpful.
