    Let’s be honest - for most of us, level 1 is just standing on the board without falling, level 2 is moving forward, level 3 is turning left or right

    Tony Hawk is probably one of the coolest sportsman that has ever existed, he actually doing the almost possible. Truly an inspiration to me, love what he does, and his intelligence.

    I remember watching Tony Hawk land that 900 on TV. It was a very big deal, and i feel like we were all rooting for him. Watching him succeed was very inspirational even if you weren't a skater. The determination bridged so many gaps!

      Same lol. But the more important thing for me, i got the philosophy of skateboarding that no matter how much you makes a mistake, all you need to do is just do it over and over again. I think the patience of learning how to skate makes us a better person in real life haha

    I like how they showed him messing up and used that as examples of how even a guy who is a beast at skating can have basic mess ups. Dude seems super cool in all the interviews I've seen, and I can't even skate.

      I saw him on an Airplane once as I was boarding half asleep at 6am. He was looking down and I only saw the corner of his face. I’m glad I recognized him so quickly. I was able to take a blurry selfie with him because I was so nervous. He was really nice.

And also there is a lot of falls, fear and scary bails but also is exciting doing it. Learning flat tricks, doing ramp stuff and going fast downhill while making powerslides is increible.

      its true. I find frontside 180s just as simplistic, after years and years of practice, as an ollie. I can actually perform fs180s better than ollies. I'm 31 now. Well out of practice. In my prime, I definitely had some pretty fuckable fs180s.

    Ok, here's my story:
    I bought a skateboard for my son last week. Yesterday I decided to learn with him. Today I watched this video. Level one will keep me going for next 5 years. Level 5 will keep me going for the rest of my life :)

    I like how they also show Tony failing when he tries his tricks, this shows that it's not as easy as it seems like in the clip where he succeeds. So people will see that even the greatest skater fails and they will not get demotivated when they fail themselves

    I love how humble Tony is. He doesn't see himself as the greatest skateboarder, he admits his flaws and his mess ups, and he's not ashamed of it. He has humility and I absolutely respect him for that. This is why he so goated, he's legendary for what he's accomplished, but he has no ego.

      Guys... let’s not forget that he is 52 years old!!! (51 when this was taped!) As someone who just turned 40, I can honestly tell you that my body just ain’t what it used to be!!! Also, as people get older, they are just less willing to risk injury since it could cause WAY more PERMANENT damage to their bodies!!! Now, every time it rains, I literally hurt EVERYWHERE I was EVER injured ALL AT ONCE! (Sad but true!) Not to mention, you just aren’t as good at athletic type stuff, like skateboarding, as you used to be. That’s why 40 year old football players, like Tom Brady, are so freakin rare and everybody talks about how old they are!

      Skating is cardiovascular so that's probably why. Imagine doing cardio at lesst 4 times a week for over 30 years, it's pretty much what he did, he also did it without performance enhancers. He is probably crazy healthy on that side of things and it probably explains why he looks oddly young in some ways.

      Similarly, he's first to shut down anyone who thinks that anyone achieving tricks beyond his on 'Megaramps' and things are somewhat cheating. He sees skateboarding as one big thing, and takes no issue to saying that there are regions of it that just aren't in his field of expertise. He wasn't going to scoff at Tom Schaar having to use a big quarterpipe for his 1080. He respected it.

      All skaters know it takes many attempts to do tricks to get that one perfect shot. You wont be perfect 100% of the time, that's the art. As hitanshu said. Failing to become as close to perfect. He can still do 90%+ of tricks out today, even if he messes up some he will take less time and mistakes to do 90% of tricks than normal skater even if they knew 90%+ tricks.

      I think it was the Varial 720 where the skater does a 720 but the board does a 900.
      I had to count the board spin myself because that just seems beyond ridiculous for that level of complexity.
      If only I were 30 years younger I’d try to learn this stuff.

I skated el toro h.s. back in the mid to late 80’s early 90’s and can tell you stories about the el toro stairs back during skateboard jams etc. just cause people were there to witness back then doesn’t mean the stories stick or make it as “x person did this first etc” unless you’re x person or the pro name makes it in a mag or video and marks you as the first to do it.

    I played THPS2 as a kid and had a real skateboard back then but never learned how to ollie. (My friends did tho, I was just too scared to learn the hard way like them). It was such a memorable part of my life. So that’s how you do it; done by the legend himself my skateboard idol Tony Hawk.
