First podcast I have ever listened to all the way through. Nothing but admiration for the Police and what they have to do, and what they have to put up with, and for Ben to now be able to talk so openly and honestly about what happened, and where he is now, huge respect.
My words exactly, I think if the police force were as transparent as he is, maybe the public might understand what it takes to do this job.
I applied for police in early 2000s after military service. I didn’t get in, instead became a mental health social worker. I work alongside police, all I can say is I’m pleased I never went the route of police. It’s bloody hard work, not unlike the Wild West.
Massive respect for Ben for coming on and talking about his personal mental health issues. Like Ben Ive suffered with mental health issues. I am not afraid to stand up and talk about it either as it helps others to deal with the crap they are going thru. The analogy of being full and then overladen with the issues that he was going thru, is absolutely bang on.
And it was the smallest thing that knocked me over the edge when it happened.
That analogy of being 'full' from life's emotions is absolutely bang on! It's the best description I've heard and also helps me understand how and why it happened to me. Thank you for that! ❤

Watching from Brazil. Been catching up on Interceptors episodes again and this interview suddenly pops up. Good to know you are doing well Ben. Absolutely loved your service during your career and the TV show.

I’ve followed you for years Ben. As a fellow brother in blue with almost 20yrs service I can fully relate with some of the things you talk about and I will honestly say listening to you has given me a lump in my throat.
You have given a massive chunk of your life and your health to the public for them to spit on you, punch you, kick you etc. Thank you for your holding the line. Keep fighting the daily fight and keep doing the videos and podcasts. Show the public just what their police service deals with so they can sleep peacefully in their beds.

I’m an ex South Yorkshire cop, medically retired in 2001 due to injury on duty. Sadly I’m now unable to work as I’m disabled and have serious mental health issues.
Ben is so inspirational watched him for years on tv and on RUclips he’s the reason I’m pushing myself to join traffic from the days of watching him I went from a normal person to a pcso to a PC
The police need to do more debriefs after big events/accidents, across all departments. Officers are getting burnt out because they don't get support

I spend my working life driving up down and across the country. I've seen all sorts on the roads and I have nothing but huge respect for the traffic police and everything they see.
It might not be the most popular of proffesions but its made me sit and wonder if I could do what they do.
I don’t even have words. Human behaviour appalls me these days. Good on Ben for pulling himself up by his bootstraps.
Ben is a brave guy, brave in police service and now brave in civvy street, it takes a lot to open up as he does, and it takes a lot to keep pushing on when every sinew in your body is saying give up 👍👍
I will never forget the first time I was on solo foot patrol in one of the roughest estates in Barnsley when I was approached by a toddler, nappy hanging by his ankles full of faeces, he came straight up to me and called me a black ba##ard (local slang for police). I was stood there in total shock as he tried kicking me before walking off as though nothing happened.
Jessie Christ. Bens right. There’s the normal people, then there’s those people and the saddest thing is there is no light at the end of the tunnel for them. That’s going to be lifestyle for that family, generation after generation after generation.
Respect to Ben all the things he's been through within work and his home life it can't of been easy

The job isn't for everyone and breaks even the hardest of characters. Every day can be a battle of wills, but that rucksack fills up slowly and those straps holding it up, snaps eventually. OH and support other than going to your supervision, isn't without it's faults Ben, but it has improved somewhat since you M'RTD.

Wow. What a story, massive respect. Watched a lot of prison documentaries around the world with some very different ends of the spectrum. Wouldn’t be easy, but does feel like a big change is required in the UK justice system

Ben I’m suffering from depression and anxiety at the moment I identified with a lot of what you were saying with regards the knapsack. Mine is a steam train going up a hill,goes up so far and it starts to roll back down the hill. You are an inspiration, can’t believe there is no support for trauma, has to be changes in the way police do their job,laws have to change. Thank you for the work you did and the journey you’re on now.

I've never been the biggest Fan of the police but my respect has gone up massively, my father died last month so I've been living at my Dad's last Thursday I went home to a ransacked burgled home., West Yorkshire police have been brilliant , never thought I'd say that but thanks West Yorkshire police.

As has already been said, this is the first one I’ve listened too from start to finish without skipping even a second. The stuff our police forces have to deal with and the support they get from the justice system is pathetic. Hats off to Ben for opening up the way he has, and what a truly inspiring person for how he’s helping with men’s mental health. 10/10 for the podcast!

Absolutely fascinating to hear his story and everything he went through I can't even begin to imagine what it's like being a police officer and the mental health it could bring I'm 25 and already have pretty severe panic attacks thanks to to stresses of working as a dishwasher through countless kitchens and the stress got to me over the years till I finally left and unfortunately a rocky relationship caused me to spiral further giving me panic attacks multiple times a day I have thankfully now started to get back on track as I'm in a less stressful job and I believe it's so important to raise awareness about mental health due to the pressures we are put through in life and I think it's seriously important to talk to people sometimes about your worries as it genuinely helps to just talk about it if your reading this and really struggling I urge you to just got seek help for it and if you feel different from everyone else due to it chances are your not because a lot of people go through it sorry for a long comment this is a subject that I'm passionate about raising awareness about

Thank you for all you did and continue to do. I love the interceptor programme, and as I got to know some of the people involved, would get angry at a lot of the morons that even when caught, continue to kick off. It gave a huge insight into what the police have to go through.

Some people regard the police like they are an entity, or a being or a monster and they judge them based on the misdeeds of the bad individuals within. When in fact they are just people who the vast majority of are decent and frankly, heroes. If everyone treated police officers like we did 40 years ago with respect then everyone would be better off overall.

Same thing happened to me me in Kosovo, saw one too many bad things and my switch flicked, not the person i was once either, used to be the life and soul of the party, now i can barely speak to people and have no Interest in going out and socialising, my go to now is golf with my son , the only time i feel free from everything
Total respect to ben you are spot on people won't truly know what it's like unless you have served the media only show the stuff that they think people will watch. There isn't enought support for serving police in my opinion
Absolutely admire ben. He is right about the CPS my dad was asulted and the CPS said there was not enough evidence to prosecute even though one of the guys arrested had his blood on his shoes

Weird..i just watched your carp lake vid, didn't know you were a podcaster 'til now.
There's no doubt we have bad apples in the police force, BUT I do believe the majority are really good people that do want to make a difference and genuinely care about the public they serve, its scandalous that they don't get the funding/wages/support and staffing that they need to make a real difference and make this an amazing country to live in.
I think the police need to take people like Ben and use their experiences to improve after care for officers.
The comment about crime being at an all-time high, while talking to a ex police officer had me SCREAMING lol... You’re not even safe from crime by police officers in today society...
Jheez when he described the memory/ backpack part WOW! that touched a spot. We really need to do better for the people who are doing the job as it should be, caring and trying to make a difference. So, we don't turn them cold and numb. Broken people cannot be expected to keep holding the broken parts of society together. Organisations give big talk about mental health but time and again we see how they have failed their workforce. Leaving the individual and families to pick up the slack. I commend this man for being as honest as he has in this podcast.

This is really good information which has been put out there, I have had many "runnings" with police not helping me in a time of need, bit some of the context's given within this actually explains the issues thoroughly and it highlights just how shit the world is even in developed countries... I and everyone I know have been "wronged by police" at some point, and from the outside it looks like a corrupt gang. This information should be far more publicly available as its rather eye opening.

Really interesting insight, Ben has helped me understand some of my own mental health issues and some of the issues the police face I’m now just even more angry at the government 😂
Good podcast id like to say that mental health is the same for all. Just think that These criminals who have grown up surrounded by all the stuff involved in criminality suffer with the exact same mental health issues. The similarity of horrible life experiences between the police and criminals is remarkably close.
Gaurenteed the guy who died in the Porsche had previously driven like that with his wife/kids in a car and had probably been warned by them about the style of his driving?
Although I have respect for the Police , Traffic or otherwise, and can relate to the Policeman's trauma , as a law abiding person , I have at least a dozen stories where by the police have let me down ,ranging from ,disinterest to incompetence , they have a long way to go to win the trust of the public .

Ben should be put in charge of the prison service and revamp it. Also the government should be made to listen to all he has to say about the way they have destroyed the police force so they can't do what is needed.

The scenes you had to go to and the sights you have seen are unbelievable. When the police pull over they just do not understand when you quote to them about this accident and that accident.
You know they don’t get the trauma of that when they all ****ing slow down to look at an accident. Are you for real?! You want to see that?! Can you please think of the people that have to deal with that and the families after.
All the 999 services are hero one minute, utterly traumatising the next, and the thanks they get are abuse, attacked and laughed at.
And yes, so much of it is down completely lack of respect.
