Police interceptors are the elite of Police drivers and some of the most experienced and highly trained drivers in the world. As the authority on roadcraft, I was curious to find out how my skills would fare against one of their best known drivers: @BenPearson1965, aka “Benny Boy” of ‘Police Interceptors’ fame on Channel 5.
Now it may be a show from the telly but those Police are facing real-life situations and having to cope with the enormous strain of making potentially life and death decisions in real time. On top of driving the machine, they have to co-ordinate a shed-load of communications and vehicle deployment while never losing sight of the tactical assessment.
And if you watch enough Police Interceptors on TV, which I have because I’m addicted to it, there’s a general theme.. the bad guys nearly always get caught… But what if the bad guy was a racing driver…?
We couldn’t perform this test on the road, obviously, so a proving ground seemed like the best location. Without the element of the unknown that real life brings to the equation, it seemed fair to hobble the racing driver slightly with a fairly rubbish vehicle by comparison to the Police BMW. OK.. I still got a Golf GTi, hardly a slug, but honestly it was knackered with bald tyres, shot suspension and I needed a tetanus jab after driving it because it was so filthy.
See what you think of the result. It did get me wondering… what would be the ultimate cop car?
Maybe I’ve watched Mad Max too many times. - Авто/Мото
Seeing the stuff coming out on the channel and the way Ben can commentate whilst driving makes me kind of wish he was able to talk during his time on Top Gear, he's great!
nah the reason stig was great is because he was anonymous
Think it says a lot of Top Gear how the person who never said a word was still as informative/entertaining & engaging as the they were
@@danrice2797 but that was thanks to Jeremy and the things he said about stig was hilarious and entertaining it also gave the guy with no voice a character
Now we can see why he was a good instructor for the celebrities
@@everythinggaming7938 worked closely 3 greats something was bound to rub off
Thank you so much for the fun day pal. It was a great time and love it. I still think it’s funny reading the comments that people think it’s a real chase, “he would have got away” “give him a better car etc”…..it’s a bit of fun people, chill 😂😂😂🤦🏻♂️. Amazing video and big love Mr C.
Thanks for doing this video! It was really interesting to see how much continuous commentary and communication is involved in a chase from your side as well!
Great video! Wasn't expecting this hell of a crossover 😂
fun video to watch. would be fun to see the roles reversed too like was mentioned at the end
Would make a great video if ben was in a better car, more time and if you made contact. not always possible but sounds cool lol
You know the score Ben,we have a Police run boxing club we get the same negativity all the time
I was taught to drive by ex copper and he told me "No matter how fast you are, you cannot outrun a radio wave".
that's what they say.. you shouldn't let it go that far.. you have a few minutes before they're mobilized
So true
You should look up ghost rider...British cat who outruns radio all the time
@@handle690 If you're referring to the Hayabusa bike pirate he's Swedish.
Legendary Lotus Carlton sporting the infamous 40RA plate scrabbled the signal on plod.
Nice seeing skilled drivers at work. I like you got a fairly worn-down GTI to toss around, makes it more like what a real chase would be like.
Disappointing that the police in real life doesn't have paint dispenser, carpet stripe or ankle breaker on the rim, my childhood is a lie :(
OMG, the entire time I watched this video, I was thinking of this segment.
*Jeremy:* "Sadly, there was one invention James hadn't thought of."
*Stig puts his windscreen wipers on*
I liked that the officer did the narration as though he was working. Police have a mandate to be safe as well as effective. Ben is a fantastic driver but these guys work as a team. Just as in the video they can drive in a way that gives the suspect a false confidence and they are more likely to make a mistake due to it.
Love the channel Ben.
I would have liked the officer to set a lap time in the police car, then let Ben get in that car and set a time. I think that would have proved who the real driver was.
Yea that would be cool, but it wouldn’t really tell who the “real driver” is because like they said in the video they both have different skill sets for different conditions. They are both pros in their own rights and it’s not a fair comparison straight across. Police are trying to gain control of a situation safely as quick as possible and that doesn’t always mean being in front whereas a race car driver is trying to get out in front and be the fastest to win. Different objectives.
It'd prove nothing mate. We could race a worm and a snail and the result would be as relevant.
The driving skills and defensive driving skills of traffic officers are absolutely immense!!!
Fair cop as they say - would have smashed his lap time, difference is the patience and gatdgry - truth be told this wasnt.my first Police encounter but it told a familiar story
@@BenCollinsDrives Ha, well you did the old beat up GTI proud 🤣👊
Good to see you kept pushing content out and the channel has done really well Ben! Merry Christmas to you! Wish I kept consistent with the video output myself but have been pretty bad over the past year. Maybe in 2024 I will make an attempt at a comeback and finally do a collab!
Happy holidays!
It was great to see Ben's advanced police driving experience all come back to him in the moment.
Just like riding a bike again!
That's the only way to stop Ben when he is doing what he loves best. 😂
I thought the police pursuit drivers were a tad overhyped but watching that Golf GTI chase with the bouncy castle owner really hit home. 131 down a high street. To do that while commentating to despatch, fellow officers and not killing anyone or yourself is really impressive. It’s one thing being totally reckless and getting away but another to try and match them and be within the tight boundaries of what’s deemed lawful .
Had that have gone wrong at 131mph down a high street, the cop would be in 💩 & their whole livelihood would be at risk...
One thing never mentioned is it isn’t worth it. Ego tends to keep them in the game downplaying risk factors cutting blind corners etc. Then trying to enforce 3mph over the limit onto us deeming it unsafe when they are doing it themselves. Don’t get their mindset at all.
A quality collaboration. Definitely didn't see this coming. Top notch 👍
Great video Ben, I think people need to realise that on a race track a Pro racing driver will always be faster that a Grade 1 pursuit trained Police driver. There are huge differences in how they are taught, the difference comes when it’s out on the open road. The pursuit driver is taught to control the car in all situations whilst maintaining safety of the general public themselves and that of the person trying to get away. On a race track as a pro driver you know how fast you can take each corner where the breaking points are, hitting the apex to set up for the next part of the track, you also cross your arms which is a big no no in Police pursuit. What is for certain is you have two different types of drivers who are at the top of their game in the field they are in 👍🇬🇧
Was expecting to see a pit manoeuvre. Disappointing but seeing Ben in a shark hat was worth it 😂
Suspect the polis car was borrowed and expected to be handed back in one piece.

*Jeremy:* "My door's come off!"
*Richard:* "He looks such a pillock!"
Ben is making superb content these days. Every video is different.
Great Video mate💪
Glad you enjoyed
"We have a silver Golf, it looks like a bag of spanners" Big love to Ben Pearson from Wakefield, you're a legend mate, glad for my sake you never worked Wakefield district lol
I can tell the police man has the TC and ESP on as the electronics are straightening the car when it gets out of shape without the driver's input, long story short he isn't the fastest driver, but he's still a good sport.
For police they shouldn't be turned off. If you crash and they are off the book will be thrown at you, because during training you were not trained to drive with them disabled.
@@James-ke9sv Wow thats a dumb rule, with the systems disabled most cars are faster, as long as the driver is capable.
@@redline589 responding is not about being fast, it's about being safe.
Yep, he let you get a gap to use stingers when he realized you were too quick in the corners. Shortly after you both about took out the tire wall. Love to see another run at this in the dry without the additional advantage. 🤣
i like how you guys are just making videos of you having fun, doing random stuff
Really shows the advantage of being able to exert psychological pressure, in a race or a chase. If you keep the pressure on an opponent, it's only a matter of time until they screw up, and you can take advantage of that opportunity.
I am LOVING the content you are pushing out Ben.
The motoring world needs its own, focused, purely petrol head TV content (Netflix or Amazon).
Just imagine if Ben and Monkey boy got together for a series of pure unadulterated motoring content.
Two great drivers each expert in their own fields. This was never going to go in Ben Collins favour with that wreck, so really just an ad for the interceptors.
That kitkat moment, lol. Have a good Christmas and New Year
Really nice seeing Ben Collins x Ben Pearson together. It’s the battle of the bens! For the purposes of entertainment this was really good. Can’t complain with BenP’s content here neither.
Love those collab!! Definitely like to see more!!
Great content Ben, loved this both from entertainment but also the craft these drivers have taking in the many facets of a pursuit.
Glad you enjoyed it
This was brilliant, love Ben’s channel, this collab was fantastic!👏
This needs to be a series, traffic cops vs professional racers!
There’s only one stig … and that’s Mr Ben Collins 👌👏👏
This is the greatest combo of bens love both these guys so happy to see this colab
how slow was this chase haha
The shots were like a bad film just kept cutting to points completely unrelated to what was going on😅
That’s me in the Scooby at 1:14 😂 Was a perfectly valid overtake within the speed limit, the camera car was going dangerously slow
Bet they still pulled you though when their feelings got hurt😂
Ben, great content and professional delivered. The 911 turbo s vs the old 911 was fantastic. Love the stories from the Top Gear days. Keep making the videos in 2024.
You're filling my top gear void.
Thank you ! Having a great time with all of this 👍
Top Gear Australia is starting again...
@BenCollinsDrives I'm an English guy living in for 11 years, big autobahn fan. Love to see some European content too. The German version of top gear is really good. It's called Grip, they do some interesting challenges too.
Awesome watching Ben vs Ben. Fan of both channels.
Great seeing Ben Pearson on the channel! 🔥
I was totally expecting a twist with runningflats tyres when that stinger got out but good vid stigy i loved it
LOL the Stinger Ben was not expecting someone to actually deploy it lol
That was great, the stinger was a neat trick 😂
Absolutely excellent, can't wait for a rematch! And Ben P teaching Ben C a few things.
Those recaros are pretty rare these days in that mk4 golf. Also hardly the best handling vehicle to use compared to most other cars of the 90s/00's
Two Bens in to a bend who will win!
Awesome fun collaboration.
the commentary is really interesting, all the things that they are able to do while still in a fast pursuit. pretty good stuff!
As if Ben was getting away with 123hp and bald tyres 🤣😂
Enjoying the videos Ben , remember well meeting you and chatting at TG Live in Hong Kong. I supplied some of the cars used in the show and was part of the backstage crew .
All the best for the new year,
Nigel .
Amazing idea. Great channel, Ben.
Thanks so much!
Stig had over 100hp less than that bmw, and bald tyres yet was still pulling a gap on him! Decent tyres and some suspension and brake upgrades to that Golf and he would’ve made a huge gap
I have to remember to keep some KitKats in my car, for emergency situations.
That was a lot of fun.
The stig had that road pirate.... if it wasn't for his friends helping out, he'd have gotten away. :D
Ben Pearson's an awesome bloke and was an amazing cop 👮♀️
Nice one, Ben! You should definitely do more segments like these 🫡
That's the plan!
That was brilliant thank you Ben and Ben excellent 👍
wish i had known you were at blyton park just round corner from me would of loved to meet the stig
Ken block and ben collins are two gifted Drivers.
Police car chasing a knackered scratched up Golf, can't get much more authentic than that.
Having a mute Stig on Topgear was a mistake. Look at this man, he goes and has the talk. Adore the video with the Aston Martin V8 as well. Happy holidays!
Glad you enjoyed it
Mine was the XJR6 as the platform was quite fond of rotation

Not even The Stig could get away from the rozzers, as James May would call them.
Damn...the police guy ain't messin' around 😂😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥🔥
Very cool, thanks both 😊👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Police always have the advantage. There are way more of them. This was good fun!
The BMW was looking very wayward. And heavy out of the tighter corners. 😅
Loved it! if Ben was in something with an engine- it would be- SEE YOU LATER!
Just watched Ferrari, it was great to see Ben Collins as a very young sterling moss. I do hope he get his brake pedal sorted 👍
that gti has had a rough life hahah
I think we were all hoping for a reverse pit when he got along side you, Ben.
Great Collab!
Not a fair match obviously but still I was very impressed with the calm demeanor while multi-tasking of the constable. Nice work both👍
Thank you very much!
Looks like a fun day was had.
I'm not a native English speaker so i could only get ~60% of what Benny was saying haha, great video!
What fun! Mr Collins in a shark mask too !
Let’s not forget, the advanced trained driver once couldn’t catch a 13 year old in an underpowered car. Ironically it was a Golf too
Weird how the stinger made the handbrake come on just as you ran over it! lol
Ben was at 2 disadvantages. The lack of power was an obvious one but we all know that it is possible to lose more in the corners than make up on the straights so what happened?
This course had short corners. (The amount of time btwn turn in and exit). There was nothing to let Ben really use his skill to full advantage. You needed a bigger road course where you spend 20 seconds balancing the car around a single corner. And a full infield section with multiple of those high g, long corners in it.
I hope you try a rematch like this bc the cop was a bit cocky and still doesn’t appreciate what you could have done with the right circumstances
As someone who's worked alongside many mechanics, the one thing that they can ALL attest to is that mechanics DO NOT do their own mechanical work unless they ABSOLUTELY have to
That old knackered Golf in the right hands was showing the beemer a clean set of heels , coppers can't drive and don't know the law.....this coming from a pensioner who'd gladly do this challenge 🤣
Great idea for a video. Excellent entertainment and well delivered take home messages! What a hoot!
You are a class act.. i love this channel. Keep up all the great videos Ben.
Thanks! Will do!
Ben needed Clarkson’s Boudicca wheel spikes and Hammond’s car mounted rollout stinger! Not to mention May’s paint sprayer…
4 mins in and I’m liking the new ‘sharky Ben’ , goes well with cheese n biscuits and a glass of port dear boy . Blyton looks even more fun in reverse .! 😂
Made my Xmas ☃️❄️🎄🍺
We run reverse Blyton on our training sessions. Totally changes the feel of the place and provides lots of options. Lancaster is scarily quick in reverse and would crash many a trackday newbie..
@@DriverTuition planned to do Blyton earlier on this year but the cars still needs a last dyno . Will be doing some testing at yours in a rather special e36 GTR hopefully next June July . 👍
what can I say, he has never managed to catch me! 🤣
You know that Golf stinks of weed and McDonalds.🤣🤣🤣
Lesson to be learnt today, x-stig is way better driver than the cop.
On the cops defence, he probably wasn't prepared to damage his car in stopping the banger.
6.06 the cop nearly lost it too.
Merry Christmas! Hope you had a great time with your friends and family!
First time seeing your channel and you earned a subscriber with this one. LOVED this video and it was a lot of fun to watch. Well done, Ben.
I always thought the Stig on Top Gear America was Tanner Foust as he was quite a bit shorter than Ben. It would be nice to see a Stig vs Stig battle if it hasn't been done already
Wouldve been nice if Stiggy had been in something nice, too. Drug dealers M3, or M5
Would be great to get a series of videos on How to Drive, I got your book for Chrismtas and its fantastic I've already started making changes, It would be great to have some videos to go along with it in of course a sensibly priced car (to avoid copyright)! Great Video
Haven’t seen his book, may get that off eBay now actually!
Lesson of the VOD... If you're going to run... At least have the HP to get on TV and entertain the public!
Happy holidays Ben.. I mean Stiggy. Hey was there ever the idea of making at least once a year a video of you teaching all your tricks or racing stuff. Slow motion with voice commentary or something similar that could be educational?
thought that was you portraying moss on the ferrari film ben! cant escape that bristol accent hahaha
Class vid, reminds me of one occasion in my old Silver mk4 😂
Just brilliant. Both channels 😁👍🚔
Top gear would have done it on an abandoned movie set or a rally street stage or something.
If your gonna run from the cops make sure your in a rally car, not a street car. If you can't get away in the first few moments, its over. Fun video!
Would like to see again in equal cars...
Wrong way around my favourite track, Blyton park..
Brilliant..
Next time I’d like to see them send the police dogs after you while u run in the shark mask. 😂 Also, I think you need to get Police Ben on track in a race car or sports car while you, Stig Ben, take him on in a police car. 😁 Enjoyed this video, thanks!
This I would like to see
5:51 would have been pitted most likely although due to Ben being retired, and video/entertainment purposes, it will continue
Ben C where was your Lancia that day LOL
