- I decided to make a quick video showing how I make high quality OG Xbox component cables. I got frustrated at how expensive quality, shielded component cables were online for the original Xbox so I decided to make my own for just a few bucks. OEM Xbox 360 cables can be found at most game stores for under $5, as well as third party OG Xbox cables. you mainly just need official 360 wires, and an official (or third party) OG Xbox connector.

Ah yeh I do have an og xbox and it's Cristal edition 1.6 160gb softmoded, and I did make an hd cables for with composit working I just added a switch to it, because I do have some consoles that I keep switching to and I just love having more options with this stuff
And the mod is completely awesome I can't play games on my Xbox using that composit again
Specially games like Helo2, fable, ninja gaiden black and more

I literally did the same about 2 or so years ago. So glad I did and never looked back. The cheap Chinese ones I kept buying were dying and it was always getting interference. Now I made my own from official 360 cables and it is beautiful the image quality.
Good job man, the only thing I would do differently would be to leave the yellow pin soldered, because then it would become a multi-signal cable and can be used on a TV without a component video input.
u can solder the composite cable to the digital audio output pin and get ur own makeshit coaxial for the surround sound the og xbox had. prolly more worthwhile, cos the composite cable requires u to have some sort of switching mechanism (different pins are shorted, which tells the xbox to either output av or component)
This mod was my first time soldering and it works like a charm. Cheapest way to get clear HD out of your original Xbox

Not really. If if doesn't work just try again.
I made it! Looks so much better than aliexpress component cable. But instead of cutting it i just removed the Xbox 360 connector (flathead screwdriver for the plastic clips and bend some metal like on the classic cable) and desoldered everything from the Xbox 360 cable connector. Much easier because inside all ground wires are shrink tubed and ready to solder on the classic cable. :)

You have the left and right audio channels the the wrong way around?

Great video, sadly I didn't have any leftover parts of the OG Xbox or 360. I thought you somehow managed to find out what other dirt cheap cables use the same connector
Thanks! You can find both very cheap online or any store. My local store sells 360 component cables for $2.99 for example

I just bought a cheap third party component cable on Amazon some days ago, this is worse than the original AV xbox cable lol, for 8 bucks this is one of my worst purchase !
I was not expecting a really high picture quality, but at least I thought it would have been at least better than AV, but no, the image has artefacts, with weird colored lines crossing the screen, and sometimes the top of my screen is flickering !
I just saw this video because I have an OG xbox 360 cable like that lying around and I was pretty sure it was possible to do this, sadly I don't have the materials required for that, nothing for welding etc... so my question is ? Is it possible to just, cut both wires at the "middle", the one from OG xbox and the one from the OG xbox 360 and just join the wires (without having to open the plug, and weld wires) ?

Thanks worked just fine with a component multi console adapter.
For some reason, the H shaped metal tray for the composite has black wires leading to the connectors welded to it. Is this normal for some official composite cables or has mine been messed with before?
Good vedio BUT I wish if you did use that composit cable too to keep the option to switch between HDTV or crt , you simply need to add a small switch to tell the Xbox to switch between mods, but I I understand because there is no info about this whatsoever

Maybe I dont Understand but first must be Audio right - red to pin 1 and it's ground to pin 2. Or it depends on cables ?

I would suggest using either small cut pieces of silicone or rubber tubing to cover the teeth on those alligator clips on your workstation buddy…That’s what I have on mine and they do a great job of minimizing the chances of any pin or board damage while I’m doing my repairs. 👍

@@wasdplayer for the 360, I’d recommend a used OEM cable since they’re like $5. For the Xbox, I can’t recommend anything since the official options are very expensive.

Question: Does it matter if the 360 cable has a ferrite core below the connector? Can I just cut that off when making the cuts to expose the wire? Thanks!

It can be any cable, but I chose to use a 360 cable because they’re super cheap and high quality
I know this video is a year old but just want to let y'all know that console5 and chimeric systems both sell original xbox av connectors if you want to try this but want a slightly cleaner solution. Console5 has some other av connectors for other consoles as well, and im currently using this video as a reference to make a ps2 svideo cable so this is possible on other systems as long as you know the pinout of the connector (as far as i'm aware).

@@RestorationRelaxationI cut open a cheap component cable and removed the glue but my pins are in a different order then yours. At 5:40 when you solder the first cable I have a short pin instead of a long pin.
Is it because I have an European component cable? Any diagram available for those?

While it’s technically possible, I think the end product would look really messy because of the way they’re produced, unfortunately. I’ve thought about doing a Wii hdmi mod though

it really makes you wonder why microsoft changed the connector from the og to the 360 they could have saved production costs and made component from the start… microsoft does idiotic things though so thats on par i guess😂
