    It’s great to see the park listen to the fans and change the seance and ballroom music back to the original John Debney score made for the attraction.

      Now if only California would have listened to its fans and kept the tower of terror. But that loss was probably inevitable.

      @@Crimson_Snake1 That's a slightly different scenario, since Disney has to pay CBS licensing fees to use their IP, and especially since they recently made that new show.

    Why are so many people complaining about this refurbishment??? (not just in this comment section but overall)
    I truely don't get it, would you guys please get your nostalgic glasses off and appreciate this wonderfull deserved fresh coat of paint Phantom Manor got!?
    I myself have been a diehard fan of this gorgeous ride for 15 years so I myself was pretty nervous what they would do to my beloved ride. What they did is simply more than I could ask for.
    They changed quite enough to make it feel a bit more fresh than before.
    Yet they didn't change too much that it would become alien for fans. The feel of familiairity and the old ride is still present.
    The little change they made in the story is actually interesting: several suitors and the confirmed fact who the Phantom is (which has been a rumor over the years but now is canon!)
    The idea of the stretching paintings showing Melanie and her past suitors, making her disappear and revealing the suitor's demises is briljant (let's be honest, the old paintings were nice but didn't do much to the narrative flow, these ones do!). So that's an improvement. Also the more continuity of the narrative throughout the ride is welcomed. The bride and the Phantom appear more often now thus connecting the scenes a bit more (also the Phantom now has only 1 form, while in the old one he had 2, which could be confusing). The showlighting and colorscheme is breathtaking, especially in the skeleton tunnel/lounge and Phantom Canyon.
    The few nitpicks I have that I'm not too pleased with is how they changed Melanie from a tragic victim to an insane evil-ish ghost, turned mad. They also could show a little bit more about the earthquake and what really happened in and around this house. This is something the old version also didn't quite dive into and it's kind of a missed opportunity. Considering the amount of lore that surrounds this ride, it's a bit jawdropping how little they actually do with it in both the old ánd the new version. They don't have to spoonfeed us the story entirely but bits and hints here and there about the connection betweeen Thunder Mountain and Phantom Manor and the earthquake could show a bit more sense to some scenes in the ride that now feel a bit alien and out of place for non-fans/newcomers. What is this skeleton lounge?? What is this weird ghost/zombie town at the end?? What does that have to do with Phantom Manor?? You know, connecting the scenes a bit more.
    But again, the ride is, was and now will be always gorgeous and one of the best darkrides in my book :)

    Still miss the organ in the ballroom, still don't understand wtf happened to Melanie, and still don't quite get her relationship to/with the Phantom, but the flow is SOOOOO much better with the original ballroom music. Having the US Disney's ballroom music in Phantom Manor was the auditory equivalent of hitting a pothole so hard you feel just as damaged as your car probably is.

    • @MissFlow

      Story time:
      The Phantom is Melanie's father, the owner of the house and mine compagny that died during the earthquake of Thunder Mountain.
      He thought no man was good enough for her thus had this nasty habit of 'getting rid of' all her suitors in the past (stretching room).
      After his death during that earthquake, she finally had no obstakle to tackle and made plans to marry her latest suitor, a train conductor (from the original story).
      Though, he too disappeared, on their wedding. And after Melanie died of her broken heart her ghost kept searching for him in the house.
      Now it seems her father, aka the Phantom, had come back from the death as an evil force and took her groom, while inviting all kinds of spirits into Phantom Manor to mock Melanie to insanity. Also, the civillians of Thunder Mesa, who died during the earthquake as well, are back as skeletons/zombies and go insane all around the town and under it (the skeleton lounge and Phantom Canyon at the end).

    • @EloiseRaeCullen
      @EloiseRaeCullen 5 лет назад

      @@MissFlow so why did they seem so romantic with each other in the parade and a stage show that was performed years ago? I mean... is this like... some Sweet Home Alabama schitt?

    • @EloiseRaeCullen
      @EloiseRaeCullen 5 лет назад +1

      @@MissFlow WAIT! HOTTEST TAKE OF THE CENTURY!
      Ok, so.. what if the town of Thunder Mesa, and the Ravenswood Mine are built on top of ancient Native land. In life, Henry never approved of any suitors, and would simply chase them off, but otherwise he really does love Melanie and is only trying to make sure she's happy and cared for. But one day the mine plows right through a burial ground, and that severely pisses off the already agitated spirits or some malevolent beasty that's been lurking there for centuries (Wendigo maybe?) So in retaliation, they cause the earthquake that totally wrecks the town and kills off Henry. After she mours, Melanie begins looking for a husband again, but instead of them all just being shooed away, they all end up dead. The malevolent influence had corrupted Henry's spirit, so now he just does it to try and drive her mad. I mean... if he thought no man in life was good enough for her, that means he must love his kid, so why would he suddenly return and fuck with her? Bc he's been corrupted by some evil mojo. Boom.
      It still... doesn't explain the whole uh... mmm... Alabama vibes but uh... yeah.

    To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with some of the changes to both the backstory and the scenes. They could have kept Jake Evans, the groom that was hanged by The Phantom, have Leota levitating, and the mirrors in which the guests have became one of the residents of Phantom Manor. A twist ending I made up for myself.
