    You do NOT need any special skills to use auto turrets. I use them on my bulky cargo ships and have no skills in any combat related skills beyond shield boost.

      I can confirm this. I bought the shieldbreaker with no points in the targeting skill and the turrets were working.

    I usually have 2 back-facing turrets and 2 side-facing turrets (one for each side), all in a single group. I keep first two weapon groups for manual weapons for better contoll of who and what to shoot. So the turrets take care of ships I am not actively engaging myself or those that outmaneuver mine. This setup is especially good for large and heavy ships with low mobility.

      I keep 2 side facing turrets on each side
      4 backwards and 3 frontwards
      My 3 front ward particle weapons do 100 energy and physical damage

    The turret placement is really bad. You need to place turret at open areas, where they can turn freely. Your turret is super restricted by other cosmetic things and getting stuck when they are trying to turn and shoot. I have 12 auto turrets on my ship and they didn’t bug once. Easy solution is to flip each and every turret 4 times and make sure it’s not obstructed in any position before placing them.

      I like placing them on the raised deimos spines and point two facing every direction. Especially two rear facing turrets for covering fire when retreating.

    Bug tip : instead of deleting your weapons in shipbuilder, just unassigned the weapon slots and add them back this will fix them.

    I think having one set of turrets in a weapon slot is great for big battles, I use the rail guns and strip shields with my lasers, and have EM for the third slot to disable the last ship. The ship building in the game is so fun! I’ve spent over 1m credits customizing haha

    Turrets facing backward is actually the best setup for combat ship as you'd want to keep the distance from your enemy. The only way is to always point the thrusters toward your enemy.

      You can also make a broadside fighter with all turrets pointing at one side, it´s unbelievably fun. Not good for capturing though ....

      You can use turrets in targeting mode, you just don't have control over when they fire, only where they fire at.@@haihuynh8337

      You can actually face any direction and still be hightailing it out of there. First tier of Piloting unlocks thruster mode, which when toggled on maintains whatever velocity and heading you had while letting you face whatever whichway you choose while firing maneuvering thrusters for fine control.
      I actually make use of this in the simulator to cheese wave 6, just pick a heading at the very start and put the pedal to the metal before turning on thruster mode and turning around to take potshots at my pursuers.

    They're especially good as broadsides for big 5000+ cargo ships, with over 2K mass and sub 16 maneuverability. I put one on the back and two on the side. So far no bugs. The automated weapons perk also improves autocannons, which is useful. Laser turrets benefit from both the automated & energy weapons perks for example. Which brings them up to par, as by default they do substantially less damage. I chose laser as it keeps their shield regen down and use railguns to punch through the hull and missiles for the bigger ships.

    deimos or hopetech, can't remember which, sells a flat plate next to the windows in structure section you can purchase for ships, you can use those to plop down weapons or equipment on.

      I think Deimos sells the double attachment point for the side and hopetech and the outpost landing pad allow you to build the equipment plate

    Once again, thanks to Angry Turtle for doing the search for me. I'm trying to build a viable missle ship, and i was thinking a good turret system would be a great backup. Missles are really hard to land, and i'm thinking the best way to use them is as a battering ram. Speed in close and jam them down the enemy's throat. That will take concentration to stay on target. I think this powerful turret system will help out a lot.

    Best turrets in the game are Obliterator 250MeV Alpha (design rank 4) and PBO-300 Auto Alpha (design rank 1).

      Problem with the 250MeV is that is has a slow rate of fire and max power of 4, for turrets I like the PBO-300 ,PBO-100 and Disrupter 3340A. Not saying 250MeV is bad, but I prefer more pewpew per second..

    I basically use low power on auto turrets to supplement my main turrets with close to max power.
    I like to put 2 on missiles for some burst damage since (I could be wrong) it only affects the missile cool down.

    Auto turrets that can be purchased at Deimos Shipyard are my personal favoorite. They certainly were an upgrade from auto turrets for sale at The Key.

    I see you're using the "mouse over the mount point and hit G" method to place parts. That's handy, but if you're placing a lot of similar parts try using CTRL+G. That clones the part. It's much, much faster.

    i keep 2 slotsfor turrets and 1 slot for normal weapons on my ships. that way i can still manually shoot asteroids or the occasional friendly unit.
    this also seems to fix the bug when they stop shooting, just put 1 power in to manual weapons and hit an enemy a couple times. the rest of the time i usually have the manual weapon powered down, because a total of 6 turrets kill even lvl 74 ships in 3-4 seconds

    i have a ship with nothing but turrets on it... all 11 weapons on the ship are turrets and i have never ran into a single bug with them... they destroy most enemies before i even know the enemies are there.... but i am using higher level turrets than shown in this video... the turrets i use are extremely high level turrets that use 4 power (at least for the most powerful turrets on the ship... the others use 3 power but its the 4 power turrets doing alot of the damage).
    I have 1 set of turrets for every direction... with my most powerful 4 power cost turrets facing forward for high power burst damage if they are in front and the side turrets hitting anything that survives the burst from my main turrets... so i have 3 high power turrets facing forward and 4 weaker turrets aiming at the left and right side... only my rear is exposed but nothing will stay behind me for long... as my ship has high mobility despite being a large C class ship i can turn really fast if i need to.

    Be careful in battles where there are friendly ships though. I stopped using these auto turrets because in multiple battles, they tried shooting an enemy ship with a friendly in between me and the enemy ship, which resulted in hitting the friendly, and then the friendly fleet also turning on me. As well as my crew becoming mad at me. Only turrets I could see being useful, are short range turrets like rail guns or cannons, to help kill enemy ships when they're surrounding you in close range.

    You should try and make a broadside fighter. I made one with 10 turrets pointing at my left side which means I never engage the enemy directly, the only problem being is of course that it´s no good for capturing anything since enemies die extremely fast.
    It´s a bit like an old navy ship.

    I think if you build an outpost with a landing pad and ship builder it will give all the different module options within that particular system without having to go shopping at each different vendor. Yeah I know there is 120+ systems but I’m sure some like Wolf are better than others for more exotic upgrades 👍🏻

    This is one thing the game doesn't tell you. Ship components, including weapons, aren't just gated by the ship design or piloting perks. They're also gated by level. It seems once you reach level 60 all ship components are available. So no, that is not the best turret. The best turret uses 4 power and does like 300 damage per shot.

    The Problem with Auto current is they are limited in range and can move Behind to fire behind you or Above you. I wish they designed them better so they could turn 360 fire above and behind

      you can put your ship in to slow spin and turrets will reach anywhere ;)

      @@angryturtlegaming True but I have noticed they aren't very accurate in here shoot, which makes a Ship with those weapons leave you vulnerable, It is best to mix your weapon Gear and have the Auto gun target other ships while you shooting at others. That the system I have with a similar game called Rebel

      My turrets I use are 22 shield/hull damage and range is either 3300 or 3100... they start shooting soon as I load. Not seen much with farther range. And that 22 damage with 4 turrets melted ships even on very hard

      You can get particle beam turrets, I believe those have much longer range.

    I have laser and particle turrets facing all ways and missles just because I like the idea of commanding a capital ship like vessel. But the big set piece space battles of my dreams don’t seem to occur. Maybe go old school and put all the turrets on one side

    Wait until Sarah flips her lid and yells at you without telling you what you did leaving you completely at a loss. If your turret kills a friendly ship and they will eventually do it and you don't see it you get the bounty and blame for something you didn't do. How will this come to be? Friendly flies between your turret and it's target and gets shot by the turret making it unfriendly and a target of the turret.

      @@dexarok Solid advice! Though I didn't need it. Learned my lesson when Sarah flipped her lid lol.
      I love the idea of having turrets but Bethesda screwed them up badly. The player is not in control of their fire so therefore the player should not be responsible for it. But that's the minor screwup from Bethesda, the major one is friendly NPC's choosing to get in the way. No friendly ship will strafe an enemy ship you are targeting without crossing your(turrets included) LOS(Line Of Sight). Never above or below LOS and never behind the target, always crossing LOS.

      @@JETWTF I have to disagree with you on the ethics… you can't just go around with automated weapons on your ship and say "wasn't me!" when they destroy innocent families, lol… They for sure should be smarter, but it's actually a pretty good commentary on why humanity should probably avoid having automated killing machines.

      @@dexarok What innocent families? That would only happen if you enter the space around a major Freestar or UC planet with civilian ships and the faction is already hostile to you. Visit a random moon and Freestar and pirates are already fighting it's a military patrol. Being military they will know that if they take friendly fire from a turret it is their fault not the pilot with turrets, and would they even know that the one or two hits came from you?
      And the scenario I was talking about I didn't even see the Freestar ships, I saw a pirate ship and was shooting it, the others were offscreen and by the time I turned to them it was just one more pirate. I assume it was Freestar considering it was a Freestar system and didn't know they were even there. So yes Sarah flipped her lid and I didnt know what she was talking about, ask and the answer was "you know what you did". No I did not.
      The problem isn't the turrets, it's Bugthesda's AI. The friendly military patrols should avoid getting between you and the target, the pilot inside would know where you are and see you firing or atleast see your shots hitting the target and what direction they are coming from. Then for the strafing run instead of going through your fire they should go under, over, or on the opposite side. They don't, they always fly into your fire. On the ground friendlies do the exact same thing. Bugthesda must think having friendlies get in the way is added challenge. It's added annoyance.

    are there any articles or videos explaning about ships engines? like mass to speed ratio or whatever the math behind it? something to consider when designing a specific ship

      I read an article recently that said;
      Take the sum of all maneuvering thrust per engine and multiply by 'the magic number' 0.080952380952381
      This gives you the maximum mass without loss of mobility

    Elite Dangerous players know Turrets are for non-forward facing weapons, typically backwards facing to protect the rear (The Type 10, for those who know). Face them all backwards in a 180 degree field of view and you should cause extreme disruption to opposing ships.

    The Devastator Turret soes almost 3 times the damage as the disrupter and has like 3250 range. You get them at stroud

    Pro tip. Use regular beams for sustained fire. Auto-beam weapons need to recharge, regular ones do not.

      regular ones need to be fully powered to get full fire rate, auto can be used effectively at 30% power

      Auto one's at 30 percent recharge 30 percent slower.
      Regular gives sustained damage while auto gives burst.
      Both are about the same dps

      so basically, if i want bullet hoses on my ship, buy guns with no label. any that says 'auto' is actually a 3 round burst.

    I boarded an Ecliptic Claymore that had the turrets mounted on it and I was so surprised when they started to take out ships without me doing anything. I do not have the turret skill unlocked.

    Tried a duel turret setup on my class b pirate ship.. definitely need more turrets than 2. Seemed to rarely shoot. 9 power worth of class b weapons did easily 100x dps :( took 30m to kill with 2 turrets and a missed launcer compared to 12 seconds with 2 balistic hard mounts and a missile launcher at class.b. at lvl 21 with lvl4 piloting and tier 2 engineering. Currently 21 power requirement of 20 power output

    Ahhh, you need a rank of the skill for the turrets to even work! That explains why my turrets have been sitting uselessly on my ship, lol. Okay, that's an easy enough fix!

    What I want to know is how to disable them when I want to board a ship so they don't destroy it. (Oh ok Im an idiot.. Just power them down durr of course lol)
    I have mine mounted 2 dorsal & 2 ventral.. and they seem to work brilliantly because 2 handle the top half of horizon & 2 handle below the ship horizon. I barely have time to use my manual weapons because they've been that effective.

    its the cannons you are using turtle, the disruptor 3340a ones. Other turrets got challenge to work.

    Hey turtle, this may be worth you showing off if you can get it to work on your end. You can customise space stations (A bug i found while playing)
    Simply follow these steps -
    - Get a uc bounty
    - go to the den and get caught by the guard
    - dont pay the bounty, instead allow him to take you in
    And its as easy as that, you will now be in new atlantis and the den will be halfway through the landing pad because it is now in your ship roster.
    P.s. save before you do this because the den DOES disappear from wolf when this happens and i have found no way to return it 😂

    I've yet to use turrets as I'm not sure what they're going to do if you're trying to capture a ship? Once you K.O. the shields to try to board it, surely they'll just keep shooting and destroy that ship before you've managed to board it? 8-((...

    Is there a way to use more of the same weapon if that weaon has already filled up 12 units or a bar but you have an empty bar? For example, i have 6 autocannon obliteraters on my ship taking up a full bar but id like more and i have an empty bar.

    I have rank 1 auto turrets & have the same turrets you have on a class C ship & for some reason the game doesn't record any damage so I can get to rank 2 & beyond even though they are doing damage. Not sure why.

    turrets seem to have 30 degree shooting angle, so forward turrets cant really shoot side and backwards.

    How do I stop them from firing? They leave me little chance of boarding. Also at one point I had a bounty on me and it automatically started destroying UC ships (oops).

      there are different versions of turrets, good ones are indeed proton beam

      AUTO-TURRETS are so bugged and so inconsistent, I cannot recommend them at all right now. Couple that with the downside of them destroying ships you intend to board, their propensity to inadvertently hit friendly ships, and the lowered max DPS - in my testing EVEN with the perk tree maxed - there is no current value in Turrets. Auto Beam in both slots and EM or Missiles in Slot 3. Don't underestimate the Benefit of 1 bar power in 12 bar missiles for a fast, High DPS blast to kill a ship instantly when locked, although it will take time to recharge with only 1 bar.

    A) Vid doesn't show where to go to get these turrets, it just says "the den".
    The den ship vendor doesn't offer/provide turrets in building mode. Anyone have any suggestions?

      yes all guns unlock slowly with level, I think first turret is level 30 or close to that

    i can't stand the auto turrets. they fire at the closest ship or a ship that they can hit and not the selected ship. say i want to destroy the biggest ship and i target it, but it has smaller ships that are closer, then those only fire at the closest ship. Also they only way to get them to stop shooting is to power them down. i don't mess with power lvls while in battle. And if i want to board the last ship these will keep firing unless you power them down.

    hi i tried to put pbo-300 auto assault turret on my star eagle ship but then it said in the shipbuilders that the ship exceeded with more modules then the ships reactor class🤔🤔🤔

    The only Disruptor that I have is the 3340 alpha beam, No turret. Tried Deimos, Akila, Atlantis, I do not have theses weapons, I do have Class C rank

    You do not need the skill automated Weaponsystems to use turrets. Thats nonsense. Also i placed them on vertical demos weaponmounts and they are working just fine.

      auto turrets will engage even when you enter precision shooting, example my turrets destroyed a target which I wanted to board
