Note: the Amun-7 Engines (Class A) produce a higher boost speed than the White Dwarf 3015 engines! I was able to reach a boost speed of 1167 with the Amun-7 at a relatively low mass, which is faster than the 1122 boost speed of the White Dwarf 3015. The White Dwarf 3015 still has the highest cruising speed though, with a max of 280 with all bonuses vs 234 for the Amun-7. So you'll have to take your pick between the highest cruising speed vs a higher boost speed. Thanks to @Ridingharleys for the tip on the Amun-7 boost speed!
Hit boost until red... turn off engines completely until you hear click then hold thrust... Your welcome max speed 1164 indefinitely... Shhh might patch because all the fun stuff usually does...
Mate, this is top quality. You've clearly done your research. Methodical and simple explanation. Great visuals. Very much appreciated. Thank you. You've done the spadework so we don't have to. Legend.
Try finding Emilia Earhart instead. She's got Rank 2 in piloting, but I've read some people claim she gives the same 30% speed boost as Sam. Haven't tried this myself yet though.
Yeah, but a lower cruising speed of 150 (if you don't have any other speed bonuses), so it's not as fast as the White Dwarf 3015. It might not make sense, but those are the mechanics of the game.
There are a handful of ship components like this, they are equal to or better than comparable components in one specific way, but they sacrifice other stats as a result. Compare the a couple of specific A class reactors: Tokomak X-120S: 28 power, 30 Mass, 1.5 Repair Rate, 30 Health, 480 Hull, Req. Level 12, Starship Design 4 Tokomak X-300: 29 power, 45 Mass, 2.25 Repair Rate, 45 Health, 820 Hull, Req. Level 51, Starship Design 4 At first glance, losing only 1 power while saving 15 mass seems like a great deal. But then you notice the slower repair, lower health and significantly lower hull. Both are viable options, you just have to keep in mind what you're going to do with your ship when building it...
Im currently building and spending cash on my best possible ship build. Was about to put some big Poseidon DT230's on my ship. You just saved my build and possibly wasting a lot of creds in-game. Waited really long to build a final ship just because i might get the wrong weapons and stuff's. Brilliant video very appreciated.
Thank you for sciencing these stats. I just recently dropped Coe since I wanted to build a tiny ship, but now I guess I need to reconfigure my build and add him back to the group. His chatting with his daughter can get in the way of some of the other dialogue with ships, so sometimes it's annoying. But now I see he's worth the hassle.
You're welcome! And yeah, the conversations Sam Coe has with Cora get annoying pretty fast. I haven't found anyone else with rank 4 in Piloting though, so I don't know any alternatives to using Sam for the same speed boost.
Combining Different Engines, Slowest One caps yours speed. WTF? that's not how engines should work..... Yes I could see that argument making sense for say, a wheeled vehicle where the weaker engine adds drag. But this is SPACE. the interaction makes no sense. -tho TBH, in space there should be No top speed.... but then this isn't a real simulation style flight model..... still point stands, even in a simplified model there ought to be some kind of 'laymans logic' which the current engine mechanic doesn't have...
My go to ship is a class B with around 1250 hull, 75% mobility with 4 3015 engines. I use class B to balance out everything and still be able to equip the Vanguard weapons I prefer.
Beautifully concise and beautifully well thought out. Most helpful Starfield video I’ve seen on RUclips, absolutely no bs, cheers!! I didn’t know crew bonuses don’t stack! That explains a lot of inconsistencies I’ve been getting.
Note that you can get the full 280 speed using Amelia Earhart (piloting rank 2) rather than Sam Coe (piloting rank 4)... the main benefit being Amelia won't judge you for evil actions 🙂. Sam's piloting rank 4 gives a +1 to engine power, however, making an additional power unit available for something else.
Thanks for confirming that! Still need to go get Amelia for my crew. And another advantage would be no Cora - I'm getting really tired of hearing the same Sam/Cora banter all the time.
Thanks for a great video, unfortunately Sam died in my first playthrough and hasn't showed up in my NG play through. So Im only able to find crew with one point.
It's not strange or "counterintuitive" at all if class C is slower than class A engine, class C is designed for big ship like cargo hauler or battleship/capital ship, the purpose is to have huge maneuvering trust not top speed. it's like trying to compared f-35 to AC130, doesn't makes sense. Only Sam Coe has "hidden" bonus to engine, got nothing to do with piloting skill. Same can be said to Omari Hassan who gives one power pip for shield. The drawback of using White Dwarf 3015 is limited mass allowed for maximum mobility, you can't go over 1020 mass and has to sacrifice shield and cargo to stay max mobility.
About the engines, it's counterintuitive to some, as higher class engines are bigger, higher level, have a higher thrust stat, but are slower. But it does make sense when you know the bigger engines are also heavier and more suited for cargo hauling. I was actually thinking of including an example like you just did in the video, but couldn't think of a comparison between two specific vehicles that'd make sense to everyone. The Piloting skill does give a speed bonus when using any other crew members that have it though, like the propulsion specialist I used in the video. But Sam Coe giving an extra high hidden bonus might be true. Just can't compare as I don't know anyone else with level 4 in Piloting. Edit: this site; inara.cz/starfield/skill/4/, which I"ve found to be a good source for Starfield, says it's a 15% speed boost for crew with rank/level 1 in piloting, and 30% more for crew with rank 2 or higher. Will try to confirm this and find another person to put on my crew with rank 2 or higher in piloting.
Wow I watch Starfield videos consistently and there are good videos out there but this? Man you did an incredible job. Simple Easy Direct Informative (with details) Thanks a lot subscribed no doubt
Thanks for the info about the White Dwarf engines! I never realized there was a difference! Might be an oversight though since these are the only ones with a different top speed among it's class. Let's hope it doesn't get fixed if that is the case! Btw. i wouldn't call it counter intuitive for class A being the fastest ones. I mean, compare it with car engines. A heavy truck engine might have more power than most car engines, but is designed to pull weight instead of going fast. That's what i see when i compare A to C, C being the truck engine while A resembles the sports car. That also gives the class A engines a purpose that makes it into lategame - creating fast fighters. As a matter of fact, you can beat everything in the game staying class A if you design it right and know how to handle it in fights. Only downside is it's cargo. I already destroyed the legendary Spacer and Ecliptic ships with my class A fighter and am now looking for the Va'ruun one. It's really fun to fly the speedy bois.
This video is why I laughed at alot of streamers ship builds. Another pro tip I'd like to add the shield you pick should also be the A class 10% regen you don't need to waste reactor energy on a shield if it regens super fast and your ship is too fast to be hit.
it does take the lower speed engine if you have more then one type But... if your extra engine is the 3015 your boost ussually much higher then the others
Thank you so much for doing this. I am just about to start on this skill after completing the payloads and aneutronic skills. This video couldn't have come at better time for me, cheers. After this skill I will be moving onto ship particle beam weapons. Take care fella
You're welcome! Payloads and Aneutronics are great skills to have too! For me, Aneutronics is still so far away, as I haven't put many skill points in the Science skill tree yet. I'm mostly maxing out skills on the Tech skills first.
Well done putting all those stats together and comparing which changes do what. 👍 For me personally top speed doesn't matter. I'm more the "battlecruiser" type: Class C, biggest reactor, biggest shield, more than 3000 cargo, four SAL-6830 engines, six Vanguard Obliterator Autoprojector, six Vanguard Hellfire Autocannon. And the most important part: Mobility close to 100. I definitely use it more like a gunship... 😁🤟
Yeah, my main ship is also a Class C ship. I'm also using the same SAL-6830 engines on that one, so it's still 94 mobility with 10K+ cargo and having all of the habs I want. It has tons of hull/health and the best Class C shield as well, so it can just tank everything. But I'm at a point where that actually makes space combat too easy, even on 'very hard' difficulty. Which is why I switch to the Class A Fighter ship from this video if I want more fun and a challenge. In that ship, you have to be fast and try not to get hit to win space combat, as it's got like half the hull and shield health of my main Class C ship.
Thanks for doing this. I saw another video where someone tested the stopping distances and turning speeds of these variants. Look into it its interesting.
Greta stuff, it is confusing trying to figure all this out sometimes. Is there a possibility of another clip showing how weapons, grav drive, and reactor play together? How do they affect the overall performance of the ships?
I used xbox cloud gaming, White Dwarf 3015 engine, Engine System Skill 3, Sam Coe, Shipbuilder parts Only and lightest parts. Ship mass with 1,2, or 4 3015 engine: 1: 185 mass 2: 281 mass 4: 472 mass Cruising Speed to Top Boost Speed: 1: 280 - 1121 2: 280 - 1122 4: 280 - 1122 Thats what I got.
Awesome, thanks for the info! Seems like 1122 is just the highest possible boost speed for the White Dwarf 3015. I also tried with 1, 2, and 4 engines and shaving the mass down as far as possible. Didn't record the exact mass though, and it might've been possible to go slightly lighter than what I got if I went all around the galaxy to find all of the lightest parts. I might do some more tests later - maybe I can figure out a formula with more data points.
Just found your video, liked and subbed. Can't believe you have less than 500 subs, especially with over 8k views already on this video. Good luck, you deserve more subs with this content!
You are the one and only person that I have seen, and I've watched many videos, that explicitly clarified that the 3015 engines have a top speed of 180. Liked and subbed.
Are the white dwarf 3030 not faster? They have better engine and manoeuvring thrust, weigh a little less and have double the engine health than the 3015
Nope, the White Dwarf 3030 has a cruising speed of 150 - thrust and mass has nothing to do with the cruising speed in this game somehow. The top boost speed of the White Dwarf 3030 is also lower than the 3015, I've tested this and if I recall correctly it was somewhere in the low 900's.
Thanks! I'm glad that it shows, because it took me almost a week of work to make this video! Lots of research, building and testing ships, recording, editing, narration. Also still had to level up ingame to unlock the Engine Systems skill, which took a while too. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! And I'll look into doing a video on ship weapons as well! It's a big topic though, and there's still a lot I have to try out/test if I want to do a video on it with the same amount of detail as this one.
Thanks! And you can get that view of your ship on Xbox by holding the 'view' button (it's the button left of the menu button, with an icon of two rectangles on it).
@@GuidosGaming I guess it depends on how you have your keybinding set up. I found a way, but it's not as reliable. While you're flying, go into photo mode and change the FOV from there.
@@nathangregory_ On PC, it should just be in the settings. First person and third person FOV are separate settings. If you really can't find it, I'm confident the Skyrim/fallout console command still works, for example: FOV 90 90 saveini You have to use two numbers. For fallout the first is your pipboy gov and the second is the first person FOV. In Skyrim, it's 3rd person then 1st person. I assume Starfield will be the same as Skyrim in that regard. The command will not work unless you provide two numbers.
I can cruse at 234 and boost to 1164. Aurora 13 G grave drive, 104 DS Mag Inertial Reactor and 6 Amun-7 Engines . Keep the ship around 1000 ish mass ... have fun
Sounds like a great ship by the way! I'm also using the Vanguard Obliteraters on the ship in the video. Wanted to keep the entire ship Class A, and I'm pretty sure the Obliteraters have the highest combined (shield+hull) DPS of any Class A weapon. I'm still looking into building a fast ship, so class A engines, but with a class C reactor, so I can use better shields for instance, have more hull, and have more power available so I don't have to switch power between weapons.
@@GuidosGaming In that case your best bet is b class. You have reactor with just 1 less than best C , at 39 power and you have 28T shield with 1500 shield :)
@GuidosGaming the best class B reactor has 1 less power than a class C ... I've done it both ways with a Class C and B... I keep Class C Ecliptic Claymore with 11 000 cargo 99% mobility for the big stuff . CLASS B for super fast speeds for dog fighting... the 72 level starborn ships can't catch me if they tried
Thanks! Will probably do a video on weapons later. Have already been looking into it but it's a pretty big topic. If you want a quick tip; try out the Vanguard Obliterater Autoprojectors. I'm using those on the ship in this video, and you can see me using them at the very start of the video. You'll need to start the UC Vanguard questline to unlock them. They've got a high fire rate, and do good damage to both shields and hull, so you don't have to switch between weapons as much. Since they only use 2 power, you can use 6 of those on your ship, so that's 6x the damage stat you see in the ship builder. And it also means you'll see 6 beams firing when shooting your enemies, which is very satisfying :)
I'm so disappointed in so many aspects of this game. It's like someone who's not a space nerd, or even familiar with real astrophysics, engineering, or anything real made this game. It's so frustrating because this game could have been so good if they just stuck a little closer to basic newtonian physics.
The Starborn Guardian VI does 279 top cruise speed and 1120 top boost and the engines only go to 5 for power. They’re totally OP with a shield of 2223 with shield systems rank 3.
Yeah, I've heard about that. But since you'll have to complete the game multiple times to get it, it's not an option to most. By the way, are those speeds with or without ranking up the Engine Systems skill for 20% more speed?
when you realize that flight in this game means nothing, there is robotic battle bs then nothing really. 55 hours Sept 24, 57 hours oct 5 total........haven't played since. Never again would I spend more than 45 bucks for a game.

You have to use two numbers. For fallout the first is your pipboy gov and the second is the first person FOV. In Skyrim, it's 3rd person then 1st person. I assume Starfield will be the same as Skyrim in that regard. The command will not work unless you provide two numbers.
Saw it, build it, love it! Thnx for the guide.
I can cruse at 234 and boost to 1164. Aurora 13 G grave drive, 104 DS Mag Inertial Reactor and 6 Amun-7 Engines . Keep the ship around 1000 ish mass ... have fun
45 power with crew 30ly shields 2610 661 cargo with 160 shielded 6 vanguard obliterators 4 PB-30 and 2 Firebolt suppressors 100 % mobility 10 crew hull 1234
Interesting, so that'd be a higher boost speed. Will check it out!
Excellent info. Thank you. Now if you would kindly do weapons :)
Awesome job!
Thank you! :)
Fastest ships to go no where. It's loading screen after loading screen.
These videos can all be summed up by saying “just put WD 3015s on it.”
All ships in starfield have same max speed, so click bait.
I'm so disappointed in so many aspects of this game. It's like someone who's not a space nerd, or even familiar with real astrophysics, engineering, or anything real made this game. It's so frustrating because this game could have been so good if they just stuck a little closer to basic newtonian physics.
Autant qu'avec n'importe quel vaisseau Astrien quoi, rien d'exceptionnel...
The Starborn Guardian VI does 279 top cruise speed and 1120 top boost and the engines only go to 5 for power. They’re totally OP with a shield of 2223 with shield systems rank 3.
But the ship sucks tho
Oh no best fighter ...
Yeah, I've heard about that. But since you'll have to complete the game multiple times to get it, it's not an option to most.
By the way, are those speeds with or without ranking up the Engine Systems skill for 20% more speed?
@@GuidosGaming sorry full rank, I forgot to add that.
@@kalancosta7650no they’re not, when you boost you go invisible and avoid all incoming attacks, and it’s so easy to get behind the enemy.
when you realize that flight in this game means nothing, there is robotic battle bs then nothing really. 55 hours Sept 24, 57 hours oct 5 total........haven't played since. Never again would I spend more than 45 bucks for a game.
