      It's a daunting job, no doubt about it. The greatest obstacle to a non-tech doing this job himself is lack of a lift. I see absolutely no way to remove a transmission from above.

      @johnny Macon hey man I just saw this. I would try replacing the Shift Solenoids. Not the Linear solenoids, which you have checked, the solenoids under the starter and thermostat housing. Those are On and OFF only. So if yours is caught in the Off position, that'll cause similar symptoms.

  • @eksine
    @eksine 5 лет назад +14

    If you replace the engine or transmission make sure that you replace the rear main seal and the O ring on top of the main seal and also all of the axle and input seals on the transmission there's like 4 of them. You do all that work no point in waiting for a leak and then having to rip it out again just for some stupid rubber seals

    The subframe is actually joined about midway on both sides by three or four bolts on the left and right. By separating it there you don't have to take the entire subframe down, nor the steering assembly or the exhaust. Yes, it was this same model, same engine size, etc. Twas an informative video though. I see now why not many people post these videos (Honda transmission removal), because it can be a pain in the anus. Thumbs up, holmes.

    • @mikegilmore8998
      @mikegilmore8998 5 лет назад

      Agree, this is an important step. If you separate the front beam from the subframe in this manner then you need to mark the front beam where it connects to the subframe with a sharpie or grease pen or something or it won't align properly when you put it back together. The front beam will drop with the front engine mount and lower control arms. This would have saved probably an hour or more of labor on the video.

    So much to disassemble to bring transmission down on this Accord v6. Wonder if it would have been easier to pull out engine and transmission thru the top, and then separate them outside. I need to do this job on my 99 v6 soon to change the rear main seal. I did change this seal on my 2000 civic and that was a piece of cake (no lower member or rack & pinion removal needed).
    By the way the transmission on my Accord started to slip and give me problems and issues after approx 20 minutes of driving my car, but I noticed that after cooling off I was able to restart it and drive it fine for another 20 minutes approx to get the same symptoms again. My conclusion was that the transmission fluid was overheating and decided to install a trans cooler, a magnetic filter, and drain & replace the fluid (with valvoline Atf for Hondas - I have used them in several of my Hondas with no problem whatsoever-). It totally fixed my problem, and I just hope I can get more life from this transmission.
    I would definitely recommend to any Accord or Odyssey owner to install a transmission cooler since these cars definitively have overheating problems.
    Great video. Thanks.

      I have an 05 Accord v6 that needed a transmission pull but we lacked the required height and lift to pull it from the bottom so we removed the engine and transmission from the top. It was neither easy nor fun. I just watched this video to find out what wires I was missing. Turns out it was the thermostat ground wire and found out why my car wouldn't crank due to us removing the switch. Definitely would not recommend removing from the top.

    I know this video is not about the Toyota but I do have a question? It's a 1999 camry and I just put the transmission in and it shifts rough first and second gear and it won't shift into 3rd gear unless I let off the gas pedal. What is the problem? Just put this transmission in.

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  5 лет назад

      Kevin Lucas I would start with the basics and make sure the fluid is at the right level. After that hook up a candle to see if the speed sensors in the transmission are reading correctly. Also check for codes.If the throttle position sensor on the engine is malfunctioning could cause transmission issues as well.

      Honda transmissions from '98 to '02 were GARBAGE! Without admitting any 'defects in manufacturer' Honda extended their transmission warranty on these affected vehicles (Accord's, Odyssey's etc) to 100k miles or 93 months, whichever came first. Didn't do my Mom any good though, as she BABIED her '01 Accord, which had less than 60k miles on it by this year (2018) and the transmission still went out. Per most car companies, they professed 'innocence' to using a sub-standard design, but go on the web and look at the MASSIVE number of failures (and REPEATED FAILURES, post 'new' units being installed!) associated with these year models!

    With the transmission out, why not take the opportunity to replace the rear main seal for good measure? The seal material is original with twenty years and a bazillion miles on it, it is not a life-time part, and they do tend to weep oil as a result. Comments? Opinions?

      Efrain Gallardo 214k is a red flag. If you're trying to flip it this is not a good deal but if you're looking for a car to put a little money into and drive possibly. No wonder why shops charge anywhere from $1,500-$3,500. My co worker got a rebuilt transmission for his F150 which was $3k.

      How to Automotive Yeah I see, Maybe if I had the tools, Lift & The time I could tackle a job like that, Hey I was wondering since you're very informative in knowing all the part locations. I have the same vehicle a year older 2001 I was wondering if you give me quick diagnosis the car's been running good since I bought it four months ago and then it suddenly started slipping couple of days ago I added Lucas additive oil to the transmission I might have been running in it on low transmission oil but when it gets past 2nd gear and third Gears around 300 RPM it slips and goes into neutral , then I would either have to stop or wait until it catches shift again was wondering if you if you could tell me or know if it's a particular solenoid that might be defective and causing that type of transmission effect of code p1750 hoping is just a malfunctioning solenoid, instead of a expensive job like actual replacement of the Transmission? Thanks appreciate you

      You can drop the trans out the bottom without a lift, you just need to get the car high up in the air. You can use a floor jack on the lower control arms to get it high enough up for the trans to clear out the bottom on a trans jack/dolly

    Anyone who balks at the cost of a transmission r/r at a shop should be forced to watch this video before complaining about prices.
