@@Fyourfeelingz 2 years ago i brought a like new yr 2000 Accord SE with 90,000 miles for a good price but it had a slipping tranny, the interior, engine, and seats are flawless, i couldn't say no, but the owners did nothing but oil changes, but the tranny was slipping and possibly could of lost on the deal if i had to buy a rebuilt tranny, so i drained out the black and dirty 3.7 quarts from the bottom plug, then went to autozone and brought a 5ft hose or you can cut an old water hose, took off the top clamp holding the tranny line to the bottom of the radiator, its right above the 2 headed tranny solenoid right in front of the engine, put the hose over the silver metal line and have someone with a funnel ready to start pouring original honda tranny fluid when you start the engine and run the dirty remaining radiator tranny fluid into a flat 5 gallon container from Walmart waiting to catch the dirty fluid, replace the tranny bottom plug and pour in 2 quarts then start engine and have assistant immediately pour more tranny fluid in fast to keep up with the fluid busting out the hose into the container, once you see the clearer fluid after only 10 seconds immediately stop engine, remove hose and reclamp tranny hose and top off with fluid but the secret is make sure you add 8oz of original Lubegurd fluid as part of the top off refill line on dipstick, only 8 ounces, after 50 miles the slipping went away and i got 17,000 miles with no tranny issues since, i feel like i got another 100,000 in that tranny, but you gotta learn how to give those cars enough time to shift gears, ya gotta push the gas pedal slightly to work with the gears shifting on that model, dont gun it from a dead start and take off too fast the tranny cant keep up and you strain it, you gotta feel and listen to the gears shifting, you will piss off some A holes who tailgate you but your trying to avoid a new tranny, and remember those 98-2002 4 cyl hondas only want original dealer tranny fluid at $ 9 a quart, do not put any other fluid from autozone or O Reilly's that says its just as good in that Honda.
@@VM1Live hey I been wanting to install a touch screen on mine, which one did you choose?
Have a 2000 Accord V6 Coupe bought new with 7 miles on the clock. Have had none of these issues. I can remember the repairs needed off the top of my head... one wheel bearing, one set of brakes, one set of tires, prophylactic replacement of timing belt at 100K, hoses & drive belts once. Four batteries. One fuel pump. One fuel pump relay. Recently had to clean the driver's seat belt latch to fix an SRS code. Regular maintenance. As to the trans, at 30K miles, I installed a cooler line filter (Magnefine) and for many years did the trans fluid (full change) at 30K but now do just a D&F at 30K. Still has the original exhaust. No, we are not out west... Ohio... but the car gets regular washes (underside too) over the course of the winter. I was once an ASE Certified tech, so I do everything but alignments. I am not an excessive maintainer, either. Car is just ultra reliable, easy to care for and has been a joy to own. We keep saying that we will be buried in the car.

I had to rebuilt my transmission twice. When I went to Honda dealer first time they told me my car was passed the warranty, and yet, they wouldn't put it on "the recalls"
They dont work with you
My trans is going now.on 2002 with only 103k miles.
Said 5k don't drive car.
I had gas leak in 2011 1k for that windshield issues gas gasket issues and timing belt.

Had to rebuild my trans and it cost me 2200. Hoping it doesn't happen again for a long time.

I love Honda, and I love 1A auto even more for having all the parts I need at an amazing price. My 2006 civic with 205k miles feels like a brand new car, ready for another 100k. Thank you 1A auto, y’all are doings gods work.
Glad we can help! Thank you
Rusty gas tank seams/brake lines, 4cyl auto trans, worn ball joints, radiator end tanks and rusted subframes seem like common issues I’ve seen on these. Still see a lot of these on the road today for being 20 years old
I must have gotten lucky. Bought a 2001 Accord V-6 brand new. Never had a problem at all with it. Kept it for 368,000. Bought 4 more Accords since and currently own 2 now. Hard to trust another brand.

Hey Joe, I am jealous 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have a 2000 with only 258,900 miles. How did you manage to beat me?
Wow, what a great video and information on the Accord. I have a 2000 Accord V-6 that I bought brand new and so far I’ve not had any of these problems as of yet and hope I never do but maybe the reason for that is that my Accord only has 60,000 miles and it’s always parked in the garage. But for sure I’ll be checking these areas you pointed out. Thank you so much.
Glad you like the video. Thanks for watching!
I have an 03 V6 with 200K. Bought it around 6 years ago. AC doesn't work, no paint issues, have to add trans fluid at least once a month, sometimes more. Power steering leaks and I cannot get it to stop. Runs freakin great. Very quick. My first Honda and actually I like it alot. Even with the trans issue.
The information you provide is extremely helpful, and explained so well. Thank you!
I love this ladies videos, she gets right to the point and no extra story and nonsense. Sometimes i like that, but sometimes I just need the info
I just bought a 1999 Honda accord with a 4 cylinder with 362,000 miles on it yesterday for my son. My Neace and her husband bought it new and when they were thru with it they gave it to their grand daughter. I know the car has been maintained properly. She got a newer car and i purchased it from them. Thanks for the video with the problems listed. I will check it out for these problems. Keep up the good work.
Wow, that’s awesome the car made it that far!
@@Hat65 Not surprising especially if its not from the salt belt.
A huge problem with these cars is the main fuel relay. The solder joints crack causing loss of contact when they warm up. They can easily be re-soldered though. The support under the fuel tank is prone to catching rocks/gravel as well, and requires removing the entire rear subframe to access the tank, if something happens to wear a pinhole.
Ikr... My car wasn't starting after i bought it. Went through the forums and they all said too do the same.... Resolder the main fuel relay... Did it low and behold started right up
My dad bought me a 2001 Honda Accord for $400 and I had to get a fuel tank and a new muffler and the fuel tank neck put in cuz it was leaking gas and the strut bolt 🔩 other than that the paint jobs not that bad and I got a slight split on the front glass windowsill I'm going to get that fixed with my insurance cuz I have full covers on it
Thank-you for this information! My 2000 EX6 has 317,000 miles and the transmission is just now hanging between shifts when cold. Yes and everything else you mentioned has happened, but the windshield leaks. My sunroof drains disconnected and leaked on the floor. With some help from other Honda owners and RUclips I was able to remedy that 🙂
Very nice clear and concise. Well done. The issue with the paint is that it was not clear coated because they thought it looked better without it. However it is the clear coat that gives UV protection to the ultra thin color coat. So after some time especially cars parked in the hot sun the color coat will flake off exposing the primer below.

That first problem you mentioned, the transmission, that's a HUGE problem. I had to pay $1900 on my V6 to get the transmission rebuild. Buyer beware. (If this one fails I'm looking at swapping a stick from a Acura CL of the same generation)
Thank you for checking out the video. If you need auto parts go to: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-Now
Same!!! Had to pay 2200 to get a rebuild. Praying it doesn't happen again for a long time.
@@StillLifeHomocide it should. I'm assuming the rebuild you got came with some upgrades. Usually they do. Rebuild kits tend to focus on the weaknesses of the transmission and improving the durability. One thing I would absolutely 100% recommend to you now is to get a transmission oil/fluid cooler. They're decently cheap ($50 or so) and are easy to install. If you pay someone to do the install you're looking at less than an hour, maybe half hour. From what I've heard the transmission oil coolers that look like radiators are best (that's the one I got). They have ones that have tubes running through them but I heard that the ones without the tubes work better. A transmission oil cooler will extend the life of the transmission. Heat usually is what kills transmissions

Keep an eye on the PS fluid level on these older Accords too. My '01 is low miles and spent a life garage kept, but still the pressure hose going from pump down behind the engine to the rack developed a leak and required replacement. Was not an easy repair at all. Thanks for the cool video!
Did u do it or have tech do it?
The lift I usually use was tied up a while, so I had a nice little shop do it. They didn't have fun with it either.
It developed a leak in the middle of the hose? Rather odd. My PS pump slowly loses fluid. I used Bardahl and it virtually stopped the fluid loss.
More close to the end near the rack, well behind the engine. Impossible to see from above.
I had my PS pump up and eat itself about 4 years ago rolling down the Interstate. It started making the usual howl/hum song of imminent failure, and wrecked itself as I was pulling into a McD's for lunch. :D I cut the belt off, and manhandled the steering wheel the rest of the way home. Fun times. :D
Thanks. I have a 99 Accord, 4 cyl, automatic. Fortunately, I've had none of the 5 problems in this vid. But I had these two problems: the Shut-Off Valve, (Evap leak), replaced once, and the Ignition Starter Switch (car died randomly), which had to be replaced twice. These seemed two very common problems in the Honda 6th gen accord users discussion web site. The car looks pretty new and drives just as when I bought it in 1998. I love this car.

How much for the paint job?
@@gfriedman99 I actually took my car to a Honda Dealership & I had their body shop guy work with one of those "$399 paint special places", but prior to letting the cheaper place paint my car. I went over the car with their staff and I pointed out the little minor stone & rock chips, as well as door dings or scratches from shopping carts etc.. (from over the years). I had them sand down those little dings, as well as sand down the old defective paint, as well as paint it Honda's Dark Emerald Pearl, with the proper clearcoat. It cost me about $880 total, but it was sooo worth (every) penny. Whenever I park somewhere or stop off for gas I get compliments, as it literally looks like I just drove it out of the showroom. :-) :-)

The paint issue looks like a clearcoat that’s 1. Bad product 2. Improper prep. If it was bad primer the base coat would be coming off which in these cars that doesn’t happen.
Great video! The one thing I would add is Honda’s in general have A/C issues. Later ones it was a relay problem, but it’s super common to see them go through a few AC compressors over the course of 300,000 vs Toyota’s made in Japan that seem to have very little ac issues. Thanks!
She was great! Easy to understand.. not awkward.. and to the point.. I have two of these a coupe and sedan.. love them both, but damn that EGR!!! I’ve had my sixth generation Accord since new and I’ve had all the problems you mentioned except the paint. I drive pretty aggressively so I’ve had four transmissions (she’s right about Honda taking care of it because the last one was replaced at 120,000 miles!) and three motor mounts on the front and one in the rear. Fortunately/unfortunately my windshield was replaced early on because of a crack so I haven’t had a problem with the window seal. Two things you didn’t mention that I found out from my car was the seam sealer under the back windshield at the rear quarter panels leaked water inside of the trunk… I cleaned it, taped it off and resealed it. The other thing was the power Driver seat rocks back-and-forth and it drives me crazy, but it’s pretty common and Honda had a service bulletin that was performed but didn’t work long term. It’s nearing 300,000 miles and still performs fairly well, but it’s tired and wants stuff but I’m not sure if I can justify fixing since it’s worth nothing more than a sentimental value.

Thank you for the heads up, I'm picking up a 99 that has a bad cat and needs a tune up, my hope is to only put $300 to get it back on the road. So far though it has been a good car for my sister
Thanks! That was helpful even for my 5th gen. Accord. There's just one more issue with it, which is the crankshaft oil seal that barely works.
Just a heads up I actually found the reason and how to fix the transmission, it's the thrust washer for 3rd clutch pack on the 5 speeds and 2nd clutch pack for 4 speed. the oil lubrication holes are too small, the updated thrust washer fixes it except for the 4 speed which you will have to ream out larger holes yourself. I filmed a 29 part video explaining how to fix the transmission on my channel, not for the feint of heart though, only hardcore Honda owners will want to try this fix, the ONLY way to fix it. it's on my channel just browse through it
Thank you I’m looking to purchase soon

aww, My dad had one of these. Always drove me to school in this. It was a MANUAL transmission, and I loved it. I miss it because he sold to his cousin. luckily I still see it sometimes, but I miss it. maybe my favorite Honda from past experience. And yes the paint was horrible on the hood. I remember one time it was new years and I sat on his hood. honestly I have had some amazing memories with this car. He sold it because of the engine problems, then bought a 2014 hyundai elantra, then about a year later bought a 2019 toyota corrola. I love to watch videos about cars that I used to ride in.
Thank you. That’s a good information.

Great video. Thanks for sharing. Artie 😊
Very good. Please do this for the four cyl. F23 A is 3/4 of all sixth generation cars.
Also has EGR coke issue and idle control valve issues and PCV issues.
Explain the universal #2 intake valve chatter during idle.
VVT valve solenoid failure, weak door lock actuators, climate control panel power loss, and the water pump seizing is what usually breaks the timing belt. Factory recommended Coolant replacement every other year keeps it lubricated and stops seal wear allowing 100,000 miles between changes.
The manual transmission is very reliable, but the standard engine and trans mounts also crack. The tail lights fill with rain water requiring new gaskets siliconed to the housing. ABS brakes have troublesome accumulators.
And the front calipers on all the four-cylinder cars have a tendency to hang up and warp the rotors. The anti vibration rubber seal on the caliper pins requires special silicone grease to keep from swelling and binding the rubber.
The flex coupling on the front exhaust pipe usually goes around 70,000 or seven years as does the sway bar bushings.
Great video and I subscribed.
You won't get good info from anyone else. I love this company 😎
Thank you!
So true, going through all these issues right now

With exception to the crappy paint that all hondas of this generation had, all the problems she mentions apply to the V6 model. She is right, all Acura/Hondas of this era with V6 automatics were horrible and had lots of problems with their transmissions. I had a 2000 EX-L coup 4cyl with manual trans that I bought brand new and put 350,000 miles on it. When I sold it, It still had the factory clutch. These cars are super, super reliable. I'm currently looking for another 98-02 EX-L 5spd manual for my son to go to high school.

Thanks! I just bought a ‘99 Honda Accord with 174k miles
Just recently bought a 1999 Honda Accord LX that has 58K miles on it. It has the 2.3L 4 cylinder engine, and it reallly drives nice. Only driven it a few days, though, so I'll have to wait and see how things go with the car.
How has it been?
@@Gatorbags23 After 4 months, so far, so good. The only thing I've had to fix is the switch on the driver side door that controls the dome light. Honda has an exterior switch on the door frame that when you close the door, the switch is pressed in to turn off the dome light. When you open the door, the switch pops up to turn on the light. The original switch was stuck in the off position, so I had to replace it. Cost about 10 dollars, but it's an easy fix. I also got a Carfax Maintenance Report about two months after I bought the car. This report shows all the reported maintenance on the car since the original owner had it. I was concerned about the timing belt and water pump. Honda's recommendation for replacing these is 100k miles. However, the previous owner replaced the timing belt and water pump at 54k miles. So, the timing belt and water pump were only 4000 miles old when I bought the car.
Sooo helpful! Thank you.

Subframe was destroyed by road salt. This is a 2001, mainly garage kept, 140k miles. Subframe was rusted and cracking apart. Found one frame shop willing to install a replacement. Charged a buttload. Told me they would never do another one, it was that ugly a job. Check those subframes!

Yep the paint! I tried fixing it but it needs sanding down and repainting. Sucks because mine’s the midnight plum pearl color and I like it. I fortunately bought mine without transmission problems. I’ll have to check out that ground wire and maybe take a closer look at the motor mounts. But she works and runs good
Best review ever!

I have a 2001 Honda Accord 4 door exv6. It’s been my daily for over 15 years. And I’m currently at 297,000 miles. The only main issue I’ve had was a clogged egr valve. It’s best to take off the intake manifold and clean out the port and remove the water passage housing and clean the ports there too.
Great tips! Thank you for checking out the video. If you need auto parts go to: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-Now
getting my trans solenoid replaced now. the part was $300...but the mechanic said no charge on labor swapping old one out. he discovered the bad one while changing my engine mounts.
pup has 213 on it. id like to take it to 300k
2000 Accord with over 344k on it and still running great! I just wish the paint looked as good as it ran.
That was a great video.....I am proud owner of a green, paint peelin 4 cyl....great car though! Good stuff!👍
Thanks for watching
My 01 Accord EX Sedan has a manual transmission and just hit 150k miles and hasn’t given me any problems at all! Amazing reliable car Honda at its finest
The best ones
Excellent , thank you .
Wow very direct to the Point, and knew exactly the issues
Good video👍
Thanks 👍
Thanks for the video 👍🏾👍🏾
Now that was A Great Video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it
Everything, besides the egr and the seal problems, I dealt with. Loved that car but those things weren't kept up by the old owner so when I hit a certain milage, everything was a problem. Transmission, paint, engine mounts.
First vid I see and to see a woman tell me what are the problems my car has just did it for me and subscribed.
I just hope that if I have a question on my baby you can answer me and walk me slow and easy thru a repair.thank you.
My '99 Accord has been a good reliable car. Also has the paint issue, which I blamed on it being a "certified" used car when I bought it (it was only a year old then). They buffed the paint to make it look good, but it removed a lot of the clear coat finish.
Joseph okay so what do you want us to do about it? 🙄
I have a 99 ex 2.3 5 speed with over 315,000 miles on it, car just won't die
Damn V6's absolutely murder their mounts in this period of Honda/Acura! Owned an 08 TL and an 06 MDX currently and I've had to replace mounts 3 times between them. Didn't use OE parts on the TL and they only lasted a year max. We're going OE on the MDX....Hopefully they last much longer.
Yes All 5 motor mounts all had to be replaced.
I got a 1998 v6 accord but what a great 🚗
20 year old vehicle and it still rides damn comfortable.
Have u had any problems?
I love my 2002 V6 Accord. I am the original owner and have over 346,000 miles on it with the original transmission.
My 2001 v6 Accord hasnt let me down but ive notice some things mentioned in the vid like the groud wire the motor mounts make the motor jump on a cold start other than that i mean i keep up with maintenance still running like a champ 170k miles going to 180
Awesome. Thanks

Very good video and heads up but I had problems with sunroof leaking . The tube coming down the windshield post into the car up underneath the dash came apart had a wet floor
Sorry to hear that. Thanks for watching
Yeah that's definitely a top problem with these if you have a sunroof. Over time the rubber shrinks on the hose gets shorter and then gets loose and leaks. Fortunately its a simple job to fix
The problem with the clear coat deterioration is that the rest of the car lasts two, three or four times longer than most other cars that would have long since been left in the junk yard before any paint problem occurred. I have 378,000+ miles on my original 4-cyl engine and automatic transmission on my 96 Accord.
I see many videos on YT about other makes, luxury, midrange and econoboxes heading to the scrap yard at as early as 50k miles needing uneconomical repairs, but have nearly perfect paint.
She knows her stuff this is my forst car had it for 4 years now i love it .. theyre known for bad transmissions and clogged egr ports as well. The motor mounts do take a beating just by looking at mine it worries me lol
The 4cyl trannys are actually pretty good. The V6 had more issues.
Im at 100k ish miles still solid, my transmission hapons to be really solidl no slips nothin. I have enough to get a brand new car but i wont because mines rides to good
Automatic trans
In regards to the paint, both my 02 and 06 are in perfect condition due to I wax and polish them every 6 months. Both with leather interior trim looking brand new. I've used Meguiars wax and polishes using a buffer.
That's good to know. If it well taken care of it should be fine. Thank you for checking out the video. If you need auto parts go to: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-Now
Thank you for replying
What color paint is the 02? Not all the colors have the problem. Plus it will only happen if you park the car outside. If the car is garaged the sun wont burn off the paint. Waxing it wont help.
The 02 and the 06 are silver, both stay outside never garaged, the 06 is the only one that has a car cover, the 02 is my daily driver.
02 has 176,000 miles and the 06 has 119,000 miles. The only reason the 06 has low mileage is because its my weekend car and getting little mods a little at a time.
My 2001 Accord had a Bad dandruff issue but I repainted the whole car and haven't had a issue with the paint or clear coat since.
Awesome! Thank u
You're welcome!
