Wow, thanks for all the views! Subscribe and thanks for watching!
I've had three of these. Great cars! 5 speed manual always for me.
I live in the corroded North where rust is a problem.
1 problem I had, was a no start, random stalling, no engine code. Took forever to figure it out. Turns out it was the evap canister... the electric system on it was malfunctioning and causing weird no start, random stalling problems. I thought it was all kinds of different things, until I accidentally figured it out.
That's good to know! This is also my third Accord and it's been great!
Keep at it, it's coming !
Had a 1998 LX that got 195,000 miles before our son totalled it. Great car, always started. Started rusting toward the end but that happens after 20 years of driving in the rust belt.
i have a 2002 161k has slight rust on passenger rear fender and some clear peeled i have a membership at the carwash and just wash my car like every other day to keep rust away specially under carriage
@@julionazario9143 keep fresh oil in your car and it might go another 100,000. Those engines always outlasted the bodies, especially rust around the rear wheel wells.
How much is the 98 model engine?
@@asadullah2596 how much what?
Great video, funny that you've disliked your turn signals because my '01 accord has always been my favorite turn signals in any car ive driven and ive never had problems with them.
Ya know the ones in this Honda aren't terrible, my '97 Accord had some really sticky ones though
Amazing video
Thank you!
Thanks for the video man, I had to sell my purple 98 accord coupe v6 when I moved across the country, and I’m looking to buy this 2.3 L manual that I found nearby but it’s not starting due to “a dead battery” says the owner. Im checking it out soon and your video helped! Thanks man!
Your welcome! Thank you and good luck with the potential new Honda! I have more videos on this car and more to come soon!
I have the 2002 Accord, and I guess I am lucky that the alarm doesn't go off when I reconnect the battery, but the alarm does work. I test it. The transmission was replaced when the car had about 120,000 miles. But with an aftermarket one that still runs like a dream. The car is currently at 199,500 miles. 500 more to get to 200,000. Other than minor repairs, and the transmission, the car has been super reliable. I did start getting a check engine light for the cat that would come and go about 3,000 miles ago, but I changed the spark plugs, which were very worn out and the sparkplug wires, and since then the code has never come back nor the check engine light. I have checked the computer several times since then and the code is not even stored. And the light isn't on. So I am lucky so far with the Cat. I don't have any of the other issues you mentioned though. The code is so easy for my radio that I have it memorized, but it also written down in a safe place just in case. The car runs like a dream. The most reliable car I ever had. Plan to run it as long as it will go.
Heck yeah same here, I wanna take this thing to 500k miles if I can!
@@hotrod4d Just pushed over 200K! As my step dad would say, I am just barely breaking it in.
The 2002 is it a 2.3 L ?
One problem I've had is low idle and stalling at stops. Replaced the idle air control valve fixed it. My 98 Accord is at 250,000 miles and the biggest issue now is rust/rot. Brake and fuel lines have rotted out. expensive to have done. I do it myself but it's a pita to do in the driveway. due for another timing belt. so much work to keep going but I don't want to buy a newer used car because it will probably have just as many issues. cars are too expensive now.
Right, and all these issues would be way more expensive in a newer car! And it's harder to work on the newer models too!
4:50 I recommended install a inline transmission filter sound be a 3/8 and it usually from a Ford about $13 for a filter and also transmission cooler should extend the life of the transmission for these vehicle. I know the transmission is the weakest point of this vehicle
@@lyhaikudai3 great ideas, thanks for commenting!
Love from INDIA ♥️
Thank you, much love back from Colorado!
Thanks man!
Of course, thanks for engaging me on the channel!
Definitely had that battery problem 😂😂😂
And my radio is definitely still locked 😂😂😂😂 I need the code I can’t find it anywhere
Someone stole my converter 😅😅wow and my car doesn’t shift smoothly
I just got the car, it’s my dream car. I absolutely love Hondas and as a kid they were my Ferrari 😂 I just got an 01 Honda accord ex and I been going through hell with it
Replaced some hose and clamps, the starter, the spark plugs and ignition cables, and now I gottta fix everything u said on this list 🤣🤣🤣
Man, sounds like you're off to a rough start! Luckily you can find parts at the junkyard easy and that radio code you can get free from a website online. You got this!
Can u please make a video about cleaning said shift solenoids? Would be super helpful cuz I can feel my tranny starting to get a bit wonky…
I did! lol ruclips.net/video/hZAMa1kmxko/видео.html
If that doesn't help there is also a video here on my channel showing how to completely replace the transmission as well. Thanks for stopping by my channel, subscribe while you're here :)
hey man. good luck to you.
by the way. i have the same problems. my blinker switch does not stick but my wipers switch do.
Thanks, I've had to swap in a used transmission so far and just got done rebuilding the front suspension! Great little car!
@@hotrod4d you are right about the transmission . bought my accord in 2002 . it has 320 k miles now. i think what saved its transmission is my routine changes of its fluids. and like you said cleaning out the filters of the shift solenoids. im glad you mentioned that. cause everytime i clean the tiny filters my shifting immediately improves. so its been a routine of mine. i gotta change my rear control arms soon or maybe the links. dont knkw which but i will find out on my day off.
It is helpful but I’m still not sure what the issue I’m having is I was told that the year 98 for the accord has a transmission malfunction I’m not sure how to explain it basically shifts ok until the transmission heats up completely then it drops into neutral
That's basically what mine would do too, it started dropping gears and wouldn't go over like 30-40mph then it just wouldn't grab the gears at all. With my two Accords the clutch bands were just worn out and it wasn't going to shift anymore no matter how much I cleaned/replaced everything
Cat is an easy fix on these. Just did mine. Total of 6 bolts. The worst part was the price tag on the part
Right! The work hasn't been stopping me just the budget 😂
I just bought a 98, had to paint the entire car. It has a check engine light, speed control sensor, and I’m going to check egr, and to see If it even has cats. But it’s definitely a fun car.
Yeah these cars can get some surface rust too that needs monitored. I've been driving mine for 30k miles with the check engine light on for the cat and haven't had any significant problems
What u use to sand down did you do oem color or you go another color?
😅 I bought 02 Accord Vtech 6 cyl brand new in November 01 and the transmission went out at 4,685 miles.
Dang that must be some kind of record!
@@hotrod4d Yeah, Had to contact Honda Corporation. They gave me a replacement which I had to pay labor to have installed. I had nothing but problems from there on.
my 99 coupe has a misfire in 2 cyl but when i clean the plugs it runs fine it does burn a bit of oil too
Have you tried replacing the o rings for your spark plug tubes when you do your valve cover? Oil is known to seep in through those and cause misfires/ oil consumption
When you say keep the transmission clean what do you mean by that cuz I’m having an issue and just bought the solenoids for it because that’s wat my mechanic said would fix it. But if I’m already having that issue, should i trade it in??
Their filter is internal so regular fluid flushes are the best thing to keep it clean. The solenoids get clogged up with clutch material once the internal bands start to wear down. Replacing or cleaning the solenoids only prolongs the inevitable unless it's just the actual solenoid that failed.
I bought a used transmission and installed it myself in like two weekends but I wasn't hurrying and also filmed the whole thing. I posted the video on how to do the swap with some basic tools right on your own driveway
I did those too with the torque converter and I’m still having the same issue
@@roreddy935 it could be your clutch bands are just worn out, that's what happened to mine. Cleaning or replacing the solenoids will only buy you so much time before they get clogged with clutch material again and the clutches fail entirely. Could be another internal issue but this was my experience with the two Accords I've had
Damn y’all cold he said let’s get to 60 k and y’all gave bro 6k
Thanks for checking out my video!
3:17 sounds like you need blinker fluid lol jk how is the car still doing ? I judt got a 2002 -ccord
Great, just about to hit 220k miles!
Radio code is on the inside of the trunk lid
Nice I'll check it out! I ended up using the free website
Is the 6th generation honda accord reliable ?
Yes! Mine has about 235k miles on it and it still has the original water pump!
Get monetized buddy... u got this!
Thank you, I'm so close! It would be a dream come true!
How many viewers do you need to make money on RUclips and how much would you earn ?
Good question, subscribe and I'll do a video soon explaining how it works. I'll try to put it out this week!
How much are the cats?
@@marlamary4525 they range from about $130-700+ shipping on RockAuto, depending on brand and application
@@hotrod4d Well I’m screwed then, I have my moms 98 2 door coupe with 92,000 original miles. It has many of the quirks this year is notorious for….bad paint, etc. But it’s never let me down. I don’t have the heart to get rid of it cause it was my deceased mothers😢 idk what to do
@@hotrod4d oh I misread I thought it said $1300 🤪
They don’t ship to California
My 2000 Honda accord bought new with 240,000 original engine and transmission runs like new..
If you take care of the transmission it will last a long time! Unfortunately lots of people never think to change the fluid
0:51 that not a Honda thing, that just security all car have security have that. Hate when install a battery for a customer and they forgot to unlock and scared the shit out of you
@@lyhaikudai3 not all cars but definitely these Hondas!
Talk to much get to the point
