The Honda Accord automatic transmission fluid is checked with the fluid at operating temperature and the engine off. Check the fluid about 90 seconds after the engine is shut off.
HONDA ACCORD IS DIFFERENT THAN MOST CARS. Check the operators manual. It will tell you engine off.
    Great question!

Turn the car off and check the fluid? I thought you check the level of the fluid with the car on and the fluid hot..

Engine off, Honda Accord is different.
Great question. I also had to read the manual because this is not the norm.

    Nice Video so ..
Heres my 2 cents worth .
The Auto Trans fill bolt should be a 17 mm bolt .
When You drain the fluid , check to see how much you removed so you wont have to guess how much to put back in .
The Automatic level on these Hondas is supposed to be checked within a minute or two after you turn off a warmed up car .
Otherwise the Level will be a little off .

Nope. I have a 99 accord and installed a aftermarket one tho. Not a great idea, but I was 17 at the time.

Jeffrey I have a 2001 Accord I stopped by my local Honda dealership to get fluid for the transmission fluid change. I asked the rep in the parts department for a filter as well. He told me there is a filter but it is inside the transmission itself and cannot be replaced unless the transmission is taken apart and repaired. So there is no way to change the transmission fluid filter.

This is already going wrong. The first thing you do is pop the hood, crack, the nut you know the refill nut then you take the top nut out then you put the car on the stands you crack the bottom nut you release the fluid you wipe off the piece you put it back in do you know why you crack the nut on the top first if you don’t do that you put air right into your transmission and you’re supposed to be certified lol you need to reread your manual

Hear me out and tell me what you think. Since I don't want to pay for a new transmission soon. If the transmission fluid level is low but not empty......pour a very small amount of honda ATF into the reservoir and let that small amount get diluted into the most likely already black transmission fluid. And I would continue to top it off with small amounts at scheduled intervals. My reasoning is that the balance of the ATF would not be drastically changed therefore avoiding the dreaded effects of adding new ATF to a transmission that hasn't been maintained. All the while, the new and small amounts of ATF would slowly dilute and help keep the transmission lubricated. My reasoning also involves the idea that you don't pour warm or even cold coolant into an overheating engine and if you have to.......do it very very slowly.

I've heard others say that draining the fluid doesn't remove all the transmission fluid. Something like a quart or more may remain in the various chambers, therefore, even a full drain is not a complete flush. The honda manual says to drain and fill the vehicle 3 times every 24 months or 60K miles, so that should indicate that indeed a single drain and flush is not a full fluid replacement.

Please, NEVER place jackstands on pinch joints like they did. They are soft and will crumble. Just place it on an actual portion of the tubular frame like every other mechanic.

you are incorrect. they did it the right way in the video. this is a unibody car and has no frame

That's what those points are made for though. This is a unibody car like every other modern sedan in the last 30 years. It is not a body on frame

Use a 3/8ths inch ratchet. Using a cheat bar on the ratchet handle to loosen the drain plug couldn’t hurt.
