Thanks for the information. So many little things can really make the driving experience so much more enjoyable. Obviously Porsche knows how to make the driving experience a life changer. Unfortunately my budget will never allow for these experiences. Enjoy the cars and keep the shiny side up!
Just did this on my M235i. The feeling of the shifter and the shifts are really better now. I used the Powerflex bushing, it's cheaper than Turner motorsport one and does the same job. Thank you for the video!
Nice install. I believe the NVH is much louder with the rear bushing replacement from what many have reported. I recently installed AutoSolutions SSK with upgraded mid bushings. This shifter gives my M2C a precise shift gate eliminating vague and rubber like shift feel. Combined with my Rogue Engineering transmission mounts and Ultimate Clutch Pedal, it’s a perfect setup. Really enjoy your videos. Keep up the passion.
Looking at the second and last image from the ecs product page, you installed your piece the other way around. You have the flat side toward the shifting arm, and the image shows the protruding side toward the arm. 6:25 Did you mean to do this?
Thanks very much man. This will be a great add. I just picked up an E90 M3 where the shifter has a very slight shake when in gear and load (driving). What do you recommend will take care of that? PS I’ve learnt lots from you and awesome to see someone work corporate jobs and take care of this ;)
Tommy, have you done, or are you thinking of doing, the CDV delete. I def feel boost lag when I shift quick. Not sure if CDV would help. I also have BM3 OTS Stg1 93, like you, so I’m wondering if you feel that lag after a quick shift.
I am glad to see that an $88.3 bushing can significantly improve the shifting quality of M cars. Since I currently drive a manual 911 Porsche, I am reluctant to commit a manual M2/3/4 because of its rubbery shifter. Obviously, an aftermarket short shifter kit upgrade can probably match that of Porsche's. But my question is why BMW has never taken care of this issue for as long as they are making the manual M cars?
Awesome, thanks for the vid. I have been wondering about these and if they make any difference. Any difference in install with stock midsection / exhaust? Any particular gear you need to be in during install/removal, or doesnt matter?
@@camluczi Thanks for the quick reply! Here i was shopping around for a single midpipe / equal length thinking I'd do both at the same time.. guess I'll get under the car tomorrow! Thanks again.
@@TwoSnailTom I would still love to try the equal length midpipe. I already have the M performance exhaust on but getting used to the "unique" sound. You may have some issue moving the heat shielding back far enough, but it is doable
i suspect the cayman used for comparison has an aftermarket shifter in it... the OEM one on my 2007 cayman is made primarily of plastic. the frame is entirely plastic and the bushings (no bearings) are white nylon plastic. in fact, the only thing that is metal is the rod that holds the plastic/chrome and leather knob. the aftermarket one i installed is entirely made of metal, CNC machined aluminum frame, highly polished stainless rod for holding the knob and ball bearing interfaces for the moving parts. it eliminated slop and added a metallic precision that was lacking before. although the OEM one on the cayman is soft and a little vague i suppose it could be preferred by some, maybe many, IDK.
Do you have a third car? I have a Cayman and would love an M3 but I feel like I need an SUV, Estate or Pick Up truck so I at least have something to hall furniture/plants/junk etc.
How is the NVH in the cabin over the stock configuration when the engine is running, especially when sitting at idle with either the clutch in or out? Same or slightly worse?

They make this bushing for the F30 but 2012 and 2013 models will have the older cylindrical bushing which is a little more difficult to install. The new style bushing Tommy installed is held in with two bolts while the old style bushing is pressed into tabs that are part of the chassis.

BMW caters to the masses, this means most people prefer the seamless shifter feel.

Haha.. takes less than 1 hour
I am considering a ssk myself....but this might be a good place to start , before I get in that deep haha.

Doesn't vibrate; all is well.
DIY on bimmerpost has the bushing mounted the opposite way.... youre sure its correct?
Good eye; from what I realized it does not matter which way you put it in; it goes on shaft quite deep and direction doesn't matter.
