The graphics race is boring, i just want good games.
This weird obsession with graphics is causing games to take forever to make.
@@jacksonjacob7791 And become mediocre, as well.
@@jacksonjacob7791agreed
Agree
Exactly. We're at the point of diminishing returns for graphics
In North America PS4 has now been out for right at 10.5 years. A kid could have gotten it November 2013, when he was 11 years old and a few months into 6th grade. It would have lasted him all of middle school (6th / 7th / 8th -- age 11 to 14), all of high school (9th thru 12th -- age 14 to 18), and four years of college (age 18 to 22). 11 holiday seasons. He's now 22 and just graduated college and about to start his first real job, and the PS4 could have been his only console throughout the whole time, and it's still relevant and getting new content. Remarkable.
That’s crazy. I played the ps2 as a little kid, got a Wii/360, a ps4, now a PC. That’s also not even mentioning gba and DS to switch. It’s a shame kids won’t be able to see that leap in hardware.
true. ps2 made their consoles from 2000 till 2013, and gave out games like Fifa 14, Pes 14... crazy to think ps4 might beat ps2
@niveketihw1897 Why does that matter for how long a console has been around? Money is still made from legacy last gen due to large install size.
@@ganymedehedgehog371 I still remember seeing screenshots from a 360 game and thinking they were photorealistic, back when the console was just coming out.
@@Bearded.Jim1989 I'm not sure what you're asking. I'm remarking on the longevity of the system and how long that could be in somebody's young life.
12 years on the PS4. That's like the N64 still getting new games in 2008 or the Gamecube in 2013.
The last game to release for the Wii was Just Dance 2020 13 years after the console's release.
The Dreamcast was still getting new games around 2016. By dc enthusiasts. To this day I think some indie developers are still making DC games.
Its kinda like seeing how some late gen ds games came out in like 2012 or some shit
Not just some shovelware but some heavy hitters like pokemon and shin megami tensei
I remember, in 2013 the gamecube was already ancient. After all, in 2013 the PS4 came out and its still popular today.
@@valletas DS only came out in 2004, that would be 8 years in 2012. Not that long compared to the PS4 now, which will soon be 11 years.
Most of us are struggling to make ends meet these days and don't have disposable income for expensive electronics.
100%, I'm lucky I'm in a place where if I save my money so I can afford to buy new gear every so often, as living expenses are lower than a lot of the US, but many people out there are indeed struggling to keep a roof over their heads, and maybe even their kids fed, and clothed.
I would actually love to have a Xbox Series X but unfortunately money does not grow on trees.
I luckily got a Xbox series X for xmas for 350 from Walmart. prior to this I was using my ps4 since 2015. finally upgraded but literally I use Facebook marketplace and plenty of people who have money buy there kids consoles and games all the time and it does to waste. take advantage
But y’all did years ago😭
The gen started in 2017, and ps/xbox were very late and brought ‘almost’ nothing new with them. When switch 2 launches the new gen will start and ps/xbox will still feel out of place… maybe they’ll launch a new controller each with more bell and whistles. No point in doing pro versions when studios still cant take advantage of all that power within reasonable time tables and budgets. :P
Another issue is that sony doesn't price cut consoles anymore. The ps5 is 4 years old and it's still the same price. It even went up in other countries
To be fair they do not sell the original console model anymore and probably keep the prices of the current models the same due to “ new line of parts and manufacturing “ in comparison to the previous models of ps5s ( the tall fat modes )
@@preamstrikbiz0 The current PS5 "Slim" cost less to manufacture than the original PS5. Sony has always been very aggressive when it comes to reduce the production cost of their consoles. Sony used to use these cost savings in order to lower the price of the console during its lifecycle, but since the launch of the PS4 prices have more or less remained the same throughout each generation... This combined with the introduction of Backwards Compatibility, also means there is no reason for continuing the production of Last Gen consoles!

@@oscarcamey8 The switch still being $200, $300, & $350 is wild. Nintendo got that nostalgia pricing lol.
I have been jokingly calling the PS5 the "PS4 Super Pro" for a couple of years now with friends. Almost 4 years into this generation, that joke continues to be true with the very few PS5 exclusive games we have gotten 😅
You are right. Your joke is a fact.
Literally the same story on Xbox. This gen has been extremely disappointing
So the PS5 Pro will be PS4 Super Hyper Pro?
I call it the PS4.5 😂 I basically only play PS4 games on it
The new console generation is just like the SuperGrafx. More powerful and more capable, and not enough to make a difference so nobody cares.
Generations went from a “can’t miss out” experience to a “you can hold out for a while”
LMAO forreal, if you have the current gen consoles right now, (PS5 and XBOX Series S) they will now last you 7-10 years from now, probably even longer 😂🤣
@@YaLongLostDad Exactly man. Im glad I upgraded from PS4 to Series X. I can hold on to this goofy box until like 2034. I will be 30 years old by then.
@@nitroxylictv yeah fr, im 21 rn and with how things are going with such small leaps in performance, speed etc, im gonna be playing PS5 up until im 30 😭, but tbh i like it that way… it gives the console a nice lifespan and doesnt just rush it out of the way to release new hardware that isn’t a huge step up anyway
To be honest Sony and MS should transition to a bisiness model more akin to celphones and PC hardware.
Launching new consoles more frequently but keep support to the older ones until it's no longer feasible.
@@prizrak-br3332sounds awful
It sickens me how some people think that a console (or any other product, for that matter) having longevity is a bad thing.
People don't have an issue with longevity, they have an issue with being made false promises about the next gen consoles by sony & microsoft
When that longevity holds back another product people paid for, yes it is a bad thing for them.
@@9.5.9.5 The console itself isn't to blame for that, it's the companies that are supposed to support them. I see so many entitled PS5 owners berate other people when say that they still play PS4, PS3, PS2 or what ever, calling them poor & asking what they are doing playing 'that old fossil'. So clearly they take issue with longevity. Those are the ones I'm referring to, the ones who didn't buy a PS5 so much for the games but moreso for the status statement. Also, I think the main reason why PS5 isn't doing so well was because of the shortages that Sony did nothing about for the longest time.
@@9.5.9.5 How is it holding anything back? It’s not our fault Sony isn’t making good games. 😂
I have a problem with the fact that games are being made with lesser hardware in mind. It’s been 3 years of ps5 and we literally just got Spider-Man 2 the only true next gen game I’d say. These consoles are fantastic yes but it’s about time. Ps5s and Series Xs are not rare and haven’t been rare for like 2 years.
This was a unique situation where covid caused a lot of the cross-gen games, but I think the REAL reason the newer consoles didn't catch on were the high cost, the push for digital only, and the broken games being launched on a regular basis. Not only that, WE were led to believe by the developers that we were going to see next-gen graphics and 60FPS with EVERY game.
Exactly! They made a bunch of promises and kept hardly any of them. Those of us sitting back watching, this is what we see. So why would we subject ourselves to that same kind of abuse? $600 for a console, $100 for a controller, $110 for the full version of a game.. $150 a year just to play online.. So now I'm down 1k and what's all of this really worth??
Literally Helldivers II was one of the only games that actually make me wanna upgrade to next Gen. and then I look at the price of a 4 year old console that has almost no new games that I can’t get on my PS4, and then I look at a steam deck and I’d get literally everything I want with more
@@TRUMPKILLAthats where the series s comes in honestly. Upgraded from ps4 haven’t looked back since mostly due to gamepass
That happened 4 years ago. AND we’ve seen record sales anyways. This is just companies getting a) lazy and b) even more greedy.
Yeah doesn't help that alot of triple A games barely run at native 1440p 60fps.
Hell some can barely manage native 1080p 60 *cough cough* jedi survivor.
It's mainly because they want to push how good the game looks on consoles without giving the players the choice of playing at native 4k 120fps by lowering graphical settings, so we are stuck with performance or quality options... I swear if they just let the consoles be able to customized their graphic settings like pc... it can make alot of people happy..
Sony stopped making the PS2 in early 2013, the PS4 released in September of the same year. Even though the PS3 would continue to be made into the PS4 generation, the PS2 was just 6 months short of spanning the whole PS3 generation, the last official game (Pro Evolution Soccer 2014) for it was released the same month as the PS4 launch.
The Switch successor will also probably come short of repeating the enormous success this console had. When you have a good generation you just milk it as much as possible because of margins, often at the expense of the next thing. It's natural.
True!
The last three years of the PS2 had like 10 games total tbf. The last actually decent year for content on the PS2 was 2009. After that, content dove off a cliff.
ps2 had the best library of games ever, ps3 was good, but at the beginning of ps4, you could feel things were going downhill the xbox 360 was also peak for xbox and this era, they destroyed it all on purpose
PS3 had already been out for a year or 2 when I went to buy Persona 4 for PS2

I’m sorry, an afterthought? My guy, there is no significant improvement, these companies can definitely release two versions of the same game, one for the old gen and one for the current gen, they absolutely can, they don’t because it’s not gonna be that different 😂
Y’all are coping so hard rn, I can’t. Y’all were expecting a leap like from PS3 to PS4, and when y’all didn’t get it, y’all decided to blame us, blame the companies, demand that they release a version solely for the current gen and see if it’s much different
Ps4 still being relevant in 2024 just proves they could've held on to the ps5 a little longer....4-5 years longer
I am one of the 1 million people on PS3, nice. :D
Just cleaned out my Nov 2006 model I got from a pawn shop for $29.
A01 model of the PS3, the launch version is now worth close to $1000 in mint condition, it's the one with PS2 backwards compatibility and had Linux at launch in 2006.
There's also a version known as a franky, they go for about the same, it's a 40nm chip on a 90nm board, which allows the PS3 to run much cooler and more reliable, as the OG version suffers from NEC Tokin issues and also one PSU which was made is total garbage, so these issues resulted in the YLOD issue the PS3 suffered from but with the franky process it's sorted.
Computer Booter and ACE Console Repairs AU have YT channels showning the 'franky' being made daily on livestreams along with OG Xbox Tualatin upgrades and 128MB upgrades.

As long as the port is decent, I'm all for it. The only thing weird I remember was why NRS released Mortal Kombat 1 for Nintendo Switch but not for PS4/Xbox One
The Switch 2 will be making up performance with DLSS though, which the last gen consoles do not have support for
@@panduino2156 DLSS is not a miracle sauce that will just level everything, especially when the rumor the chipset is lacking a component to make DLSS more efficient, thus relying more on raw CPU power to make up for it. And the next-gen successors from competitors will make use of A.I. upscaling technology with even more power and thus Switch 2's advantage will be nullified.
I think the PS4/Xbox 1 graphical level will still be good enough in the next few years, that means the Switch 2 will also have a good time.
@@MedalionDS9 It will opticaly make it look better. To achieve that better look without DLSS, the device has to have more power. So DLSS is a good compenssation for the lack of power to a certain degree.
This is also happening on the smartphone market: no reasons to upgrade.
There is for gaming, the iPhone 15 Pro is able to play a new generation of games that cant be played on older phones.
Games are art first, technology second. The more consumers and opinion makers start recognizing this, the better it will bode for the future of the industry.
I really hope this generation lasts till like 2029 cause it feels like its barely gone off the ground
Dont you worry, this current generation of consoles will last us 8-10 years from now 😂
People forget this happened for a good reason a long time ago with Nintendo. The NES and games for it were still being sold for 5 years after the SNES released despite the “obvious graphical jump”
If Sony didn't release some of their games on PS4 & PC, people would complain. But when they do release games on PS4 (this is also true for PC), people still say there are no games on ps5. What's wrong with people?
Yeah whenever they release a game exclusive to PS5 people complain and complain about why it isn't on PC. And then if it does go to PC then people say the PS5 has no games, it's really quite annoying.
Making the same game available for PS4 basically reduces the PS5 title to same but a bit prettier. Which then leads to current complaints about games not offering anything new aside from a slight visual upgrade. For example say PS4 can only run 100 AI opponents at once the PS5 1000,but now the PS5 is being limited to PS4 just with a shinier coat of paint.
who would have thought people have different opinions on things 🤔
I can tell you what this is about.
Investors tell company, “keep selling to the 100 million plus on PS4” so…..they do.

@andrewmoore7927 Agree. I'm a dev (not games), and the pandemic definitely affected us. However, once we figured out how to effectively collaborate remotely, we did amazing things in 2023-24. Just like the game industry has as well.
We're currently in the new "Magnavox/Collecovision" era, and desperately need a new "Atari" to shake things up.
Facts 💯
So, nintendo had the best idea when going from the gamecube to the Wii, "not power, but fun, immerssion and involvement in games"
Graphics are getting better yes but not the actual games.
Yeah, I just hooked up my PS3 last night and started a game on Demon's Souls OG. PS3 graphics still hold up really well and there are great games on there. No reason to end it. Not to mention my PS3 is backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2 so between the PS3 and PS5 I can play all my PlayStation games
I still play my PS4. While I want in theory to get a PS5, the prices are crazy. 70 dollars for games with almost no price drops is insane. And what you get back? Unfinished games, that looks like they play like PS4 games. I just see no point in getting PS5. And I don't care for graphics; I'm a Switch player- that alone should tell you.
I dont think there's a single game on PS5 that couldn't run on ps4 except for possibly Rift Apart and thats only if its on a hard drive.
@@papertoad456 That's what I've assumed. I've played GOW Ragnarok on PS4 and it runs extremely well.
They look and play like PS4 games because last gen is holding the current gen behind. That's kind of the point that people are making lol. $70 for a game is not a lot considering what they SHOULD be at with inflation. Go look at what older games cost and you'd be very surprised. If anything, video games have not went that much up in price. I do agree with you saying games launch unfinished. That needs to die out.

With the diminished return in graphics, I dont think we are ever going to experience that "next gen" feeling again. At best, i think new features like quick resume, load times, and whatever else they can come up with will define the generations, and similar to phones, more people will skip 1-2 generations.
FACTS, i genuinely feel like when the PS6 and next Xbox comes out, it wont sell all that well! Think about, what else could they possibly make better? I feel like graphics in games are capped out now to the point where its already good enough, people will just keep their PS5’s and Xbox’s to look for games that are fun over having amazing graphics… there is really no point in dropping new consoles every 7 years, they should extend the releases for new console to a decade…

One of the issues I noticed is that the pandemic in combination with the scalping situation made it to where a lot of people couldn't even find a PS5/XSX at retail until 2022-2023, years after it's release. Many just gave up and decided to play the older systems/Switch and or invest in a PC/Steam Deck. This is what happened to me, I lost all the excitement with that scalper junk and I still don't have a PS5 because of it.
When I finally got around to getting a PS4, it was the one on sale at Christmas that came with Spider-Man. That was such a good deal. Then ps5s were so hard to get a hold of and the upgrade wasn't that mind-blowing, and people don't have a ton of spending money, I think it's understandable why things are the way they are
Just the fact that the ps5 wasn't available for over a year after launch was enough for a few of my friends to not buy it at all even to this day. They're also still on ps4.
As far as I'm concerned video game graphics pretty much reached the "everything looks fine" milestone during the PS4/XB1 generation so I see nothing wrong with games continuing to be made for those consoles, if anything it makes games less demanding to run which has it's own benefits on current gen consoles and PC if you wanna play them at 120FPS
Edit: Also works great for running games on the Steam Deck and the other handheld gaming PCs
your opinion is poo,the ps4 is woefully outdated now,ps4 can barely do 1080p at 30fps lol
you have poo for brains and you need to stop being a poor and upgrade already, the ps5 is 4.5 years old MOVE ON
ps4 yes but Xbox one was terrible
From everything I've seen in recent games, studios believe that happened in the PS3/360 era...
That ; yeah I agree and I just don't think the technology is there yet , and even if it is , I don't think the economy is there for it either 😅🤣
Hello GPU, I’d like to introduce CPU. You probably haven’t met him yet and don’t know what he can do.
Most games don't really need new or more powerful hardware to run
The PS4 slim upgraded with an SSD still feels like all you need for life
I think pricing is an issue as well. These are $500 consoles that have yet to have a price drop. Usually at this point in a console’s lifespan there’s been a significant drop. I can’t believe neither has dropped to $400 yet (not counting the S or the digital)
Components are generally more expensive these days. Moore's law died a long time ago so profits aren't going up the longer hardware is on the market like they used to. It's to be expected to some degree.
The base PS5 launched at $399.99. It now sells for 449.99. I don't think we have ever seen this during the life of any console but I could be wrong.
Even graphic cards are going up in price, PS5 won't drop.
@@Vaeloron $449.99?!?! Here in the UK, I can find a brand new PS4 slim for £180, which is roughly $230. At most I found a base PS4 brand new for $300... US pricing is insane seemingly in comparison.

Prices of online play high, what? lol I guess. For Xbox it's the same as it was for the 360 nearly 20 years ago at $60/yr, Switch is $20/yr, and PS is $80, but I don't know why anyone would bother paying for PSN. All things considered, it could be way worse.
@alvallac2171 cringe spotted
I still play my trusty PlayStation2 to this day, it's 24 years old lol
The cost for the ps5 is expensive and the subscription doesn’t make it any better
Another factor is due to the fact that current and last gen systems share the same architecture, combined with a lot of games simply just not being very demanding, makes it trivial to also release the games on PS4/XB1 and have access to an additional 160 Million+ potential players.
Imagine making AAA game for modern consoles needing to sell 10M combined but not selling even half that. You'd port it to old systems and PC too. Most indies games port to everything already.
That's because indie games aren't trying to push the graphical limits like most of these AAA games are. Makes a whole lot more financial sense to be on as many thing as possible.
i have a PC and nintendo that's all i need
big difference between indie games releasing on a last gen console and COD. I can only imagine the deep compromises they had to make to get it to run. Might as well try to get Tomb Raider (1995) running on a SNES. Cyberpunk was a clear indication that even the current generation of consoles is not as good as a budget gaming PC. I played cyberpunk at launch on a R7 380 and it ran fine.
@@Lurch-Bot Optimization is also important to get any piece of software to run on a system though. Takes time to learn the In's and Out's of any setup.
That in turn should make programming for a console easier since everyone's pc setup is different in terms of the motherboard, processor, graphic card, ram, etc. Some of the games from these AAA studios seem to just have the system brute force its way through, not holding the release back to reasonably polish the code so it'll run efficiently and smoothly, just patch it up later.
Also know that there's still this weird concerted effort of "Can it run Doom" still going on for the past like 30 years.
I think a huge factor in why the ps5 is underwhelming is cause majority of game releases lately have just been horrible not only that and there 70$ it's really justify buying something for the ps5 these days

It’s no different than Apple still supporting their older phones and iPads with updates several years after they are released.
And then game sales for current consoles WILL tank as a result. Unless the company force people to transition, then people simply won't do it. It took until last year for games to stop being crossgen.
The consoles have gotten more advanced but if games are more expensive and time consuming to make then it doesn’t matter. Either this will be a stop gap generation or this generation is going to stick around for much longer.

I don't know why people are so supprised about this. We aren't getting massive jumps in fidelity anymore. It's just easier then it ever has been to make games cross-gen. What are people expecting exactly if companies start putting all their focus on current gen only? The graphics aren't suddenly going to be 10 times beter. We are already seeing current gen only games that try to push some graphics and have to go back to the 30fps cap. When graphics are borderline photorealistic there really isn't much more we can push. Exactly the same will happen when PS6 comes out and if you buy a PS5 now you'll probablky be fine for the next 8 years also.

You know, the Steam Hardware survey has listed the 1650 and 2060 as 2 of the most installed video cards among players. Video card sales are dropping too, in part because of COVID, but also for 1080p gaming those older cards are still chugging along fine.
The biggest problem people thinks that "next gen" is all about graphics
I mean thats a fact though. All the new games are style without substance. God of war ragnarok, spiderman 2, horizon forbidden west. All just graphical upgrades really, the gameplay is not innovative nor requires new hardware seeing as 2 of those games are on ps4 despite coming out recently.
Graphics jumps and exclusives have largely been what has sold people on new consoles. And both have largely been lackluster this gen.
Well, no duh. Why the hell else am I spending 500+ to upgrade, if the games are literally the same and run on my old system?
Or did you erroneously assume graphics are just how pretty a game looks?

Don't worry, the Switch 2 will give this stagnating game industry a much needed revitalization. 3rd party studios are gonna start developing their games for the Switch 2's specs in mind and then scale them up for the PS5 and Series X with higher res textures and better framerates. Its cheaper and easier and a lot more sustainable than the other way around.

The leap from ps4 to ps5 was bigger to me than ps3 to ps4.
That generation felt like "Well... It's been a while. Gotta release something...".
I would've bought a ps5 early on when I got my 4k, but they were so hard to find. So I got a new GPU instead.
They should make a PS4 ultra slim digital only console
There’s millions out there who can actually afford ps4/xbox now n current users don’t need to upgrade if there satisfied with there experience
And PS5's should have dropped prices already, both hardware and software. But a pandemic happened. Number one reason people can't afford next gen systems.
Also nothing to push them to buy.
I wouldn't get a ps5 just for FF16.
I haven't haven't played the first ff7 remake to even concider the second part.
Exactly and it a good thing for people to get cheaper hardware when they don't need the ps5
Yeah the graphics change is so marginal that I couldn’t care. I got a series s to play some console games, but it’s pretty much a mini Xbox one X.
You can buy a last gen console used for the same price as a current gen game.
This got me thinking... on the PC side. I can see why Nvidia happily focuses on data centers and AI. Because in a few years, virtually everyone will have a capable enough gaming GPU. There won't be much of a market left by then.
I think the Covid years slowed things down too for this generation of consoles and now we're feeling the impact of it.
Nintendo did it right by holding on to the switch for as long as they have. They avoided trying to push out a new console in the middle of covid and the crazy inflation that’s happened after. When they do they’ll have a way better adoption rate of the switch 2 or whatever theyre going to call it.
Graphics just don't matter to me. I want fun games and PS4 still has fun games. My next console will be whatever Nintendo puts out or a steam deck because PS5 has nothing going on to make me want it. Games cost more, the subscription for ps plus has increased, and I have a ton of games to play on PS4 still. The very small number of next gen only games I'm interested in can wait until they're much cheaper. I just don't get why anyone wants better graphics when that is the least important thing.
Also, the PS5 is the ugliest system I've ever seen and I keep hoping they'll put out a cheaper and completely different looking version. Maybe then I'll be interested lol
FACTS, the only console I will be buying in the next 8-10 years will be the Nintendo Switch successor, Nintendo already proved graphics DO NOT matter, 140 million sales vs 50 million for Xbox and PlayStation? That tells you everything you need to know right there! I also have a PC so if i want a huge jump in graphics for video games, i can just use that, and I dont have to spend 500-700 every 7 years for a new console to get those graphics 😂 Video Games are about having fun, not looking as real as possible
There is more than one reason, but I believe the 2020 launch and subsequent shortage killed the generation. The shortage is why Sony released the new horizon game on ps4 instead of a ps5 exclusive. How many other games were given cross generation greenlights because of the lack of new gen supply. The cross Gen support seems to be dying down, but still prevalent compared to any other cross gen period in my life
Additionall God of War Ragnarok was also crossgen two years into the generation. It TOOK until Spiderman 2 released in 2023 for a massive game to be Ps5 only. And Sony is puzzled why the Ps5 isn't selling.
@awsomeboy360 outside of being older and with a family now. Ratchet and Clank and Spiderman are the only two games I can't play from my ps4 or series s. I only have a series s because it was my first time seeing a next gen console in a store, which was fall 2021
Yeah the Covid pandemic really changed everything
I think a single year delay for the initial launch to both sidestep the supply shock induced by the pandemic as well as stockpiling the initial batch would have smoothed over the transition. Denying some initial scalping would have made for a healthier Y1 install base, which means more money in the pockets of those wanting to buy games for it. Doubles up as a more optimistic bet on cutting off the cross gen line.
The whole situation reads as very shortsighted. There's no solid confidence in current gen mostly due to the unfortunate timing and early sales.
I recently replaced the thermal paste and switched out the hdd with an ssd along with the mclassic hdmi adapter for my ps4 . Still works fine . Same with my ps3 slim .

I think this all playing into Nintendo’s hands. They stand to launch Switch 2 with lots of the biggest AAA third party games that are still current. They could have the new CoD at launch just a few months after it came out. All these games targeting PS4 is really going to make Switch 2 shine. Sony and Microsoft should be worried. We haven’t seen Nintendo with first and third party firing on this level since the NES/SNES.
The Switch 2 will not be able to run GTA6. By the time the Switch 2 launches, developers will be targeting PS5 Pro and PS5.
As for COD, I think Microsoft will make that game for as many consoles as possible.
@@G360LIVE Even if support stopped for PS4 at the end of 2024 there is still a decade of great games that will come to Switch. Original Switch didn’t get GTA5 or CoD. It didn’t get most AAA games from PS4 either and it sold 140+ million consoles. Switch 2 is going to have most games IMO.
The problem aren't PS4 and Xbox One. The problem is 9th gen was POINTLESS.
If you want a gaming PC get a PC to play 120fps 4K etc. PS4 to this date has enough processing power for any developer that doesn't need to make you see the porus and nose hair of your first person character model. Most indies and smaller titles have enough power. The magical SSD was a lie and a PS4 could run Rift Apart at mid graphics 1080p
Why they keep the 8th gen alive? Because it's still usable and unless you're a graphics SNOB. Gaming REALISM peaked in 8th gen. RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 is a PS4 and XB One game. 9th gen just exists to COMPETE against PCs.

Last-generation systems can be had for so cheap and can play almost all of the same games. So there's no incentive to buy the newer consoles if you're on a tight budget. We won't see a massive transition to this generation until the next one comes along and the secondhand market gets a good influx of cheaper used systems.
NCAA Football 25 not being on the older systems is what got me to buy a Series S
The ability to play games across generations is a good thing for gamers. Not having to be forced to buy a new console is a good thing for the majority of gamers. Yes, you and I might have a good job with a good income and buying a new console is no problem. But for the minority of people in the world that is not the case. That has been the case for decades on PC and it has been perfectly fine.
Secondly, the technology has not evolved enough to make it worth it for them to do a clean start.
I said this before, I believe consoles will move in the direction of Laptops and phones. You buy one and keep it until it dies or until there is a big upgrade available. Consoles will get minor upgrades every couple of years.
i.e. If you are buying a PlayStation in 2026, you'll be buying the PlayStation (2026).
Need to also remember that launching a game console is THE MOST expensive stage during a console generation. I'm sure SONY and Microsoft will be very happy to reduce that expense and keep racking in revenue from all the millions of customers already in the (older) platform.
The devs said few days ago that Black ops 6 was in play testing 2 years ago. They proably had extra time to polish the game and find enough peformance fixes to get it on xbox one and ps4.
It's because no one has money to buy the new consoles, and the old consoles are also x86 based so it's easier this time than in previous years to back-port a lot of games, that coupled with the Xbox One and PS4 are both really reliable systems makes sure that people stay on the last gen for longer, honestly they should have released the PS5 and Series systems in 2022-23. I also already have an SSD in my Xbox One (had to replace the HDD)
Plus 200w power consumption doesn’t look too appealing
While replacing the HDD with an SDD can help load times. It doesn’t change how games are designed as they have to account for the HDD in the sku. They’re literally holding back improving game design.
@@XxZannexX I really don't think so, I'd say it's making games more efficient, more compatible and less power hungry. so games on newer hardware will run even better because devs wouldn't be using the new hardware as a crutch.

Possibly but maybe not, it's a very weird generation this time, the pandemic also had an effect, the reason COD will always be on the last gen is simply for numbers to make the most money out of, why abandon the huge numbers of PS4 owners and XB1 owners, even on PC with all the settings cranked up it uses around 7.5GB of RAM and the engine is now over 20 years old, it's called RADIANT and has been cranked up a bit over the years but really is showing it's age and people like Doc really cringe at it's use.

I view ps4/xbox1 on as more or less dumb down and repacked PCs. Every iteration is just a slightly stronger version. Not exactly the case, but console gaming looks to be shifting to a PC specs based way of gaming as opposed to hard and fast console generation lines. Could be good, could be bad. I don't have a strong opinion either direction, just an observation with base ps4, ps4 pro, ps5, and the confirmed (rumored) ps5 pro gives the impression you get 3 or so upgrades on hardware before you need to upgrade so software can be played
Because graphics technology have almost reached the ceiling games aren't really advancing in that area. Its more like games are getting longer to play because everyone wants open world, just look at Ghost of Tsushima. If PS4 can handle that kind of game, its still possible developers want to tap that market instead of limiting themselves to half of it.
