Exactly. I have all 3 and while I enjoy my Series X (backwards compatibility) the most MS and Sony could take lessons on 1st party software support from Nintendo. The Switch library is awesome.
The switch truly was Saturu Iwata's dream, and it's a tragedy he didn't get to see the system single-handedly revive Nintendo. We used to complain about no wallpapers and folders, imagine how much MORE personality the switch would have with him still around.
I’m not gonna say Nintendo was in a powerful position before the NX came out… but revive them? They were far, far, FAR away from dying. The only real risk they were in was leaving hardware and even then, it was very unlikely. They have always done well with handhelds.
@@witherwraithmc nah let's not get that crazy. It still would have needed another massive Wii U-esqe failure after the Wii U for them to think about stopping.
The Switch is different because it's the first time in 30+ years that Nintendo is supporting a single system. Having all their studios and partners developing games for the same platform is a game changer, this is why the Switch library is insane and just keeps growing. The only reason Nintendo stopped ruling the industry in the late 90s and let Sony take over was because they were diluting their efforts across two different markets at the same time. They were succeeding at both, but at the cost of losing the crown in the console space.
not only that really, playstation was marketed. as a more hip grown console. and it also used cd. And nintendo made some bad decisions, for example some stupid rules made by the head honcho at the time. The n64 was not as attractive with the limited space and odd design choices.
@@basseman4239 To further support the playstation argument is that it could play DVDs at least the PS2 did, which made it a multi-purpose system for families and the most cost-efficient device. I think DVD-Players were also expensive back then, so the PS2 in particular just swooped in and went nuts.
@@basseman4239 To be fair, using CDs wouldn’t have helped the N64. Simply because CD drives were not dirt cheap back when the PS1 first launched and memory ram was very expensive back in the mid 90s. You could settle with the slowest CD drive while choosing 2MB of ram for your hardware, but the unit would’ve ended up costing no less than $300.
@@basseman4239 What hurt the N64 the most was the drought of titles, without it Nintendo would've competed with Sony and Sega just fine like they're doing now against Microsoft, Sony, Valve, and all the SteamDeck-clones competitors with much more modern and powerful hardware. Nintendo could've found its niche in the console space much earlier had they not found another one in the handheld space instead. It's a funny "what if" scenario to imagine, but ultimately it doesn't matter because they leveraged their expertise from the handheld consoles and created the Switch, which allowed them to be the first in the hybrid console market and created their own niche. They are the industry leaders again my all metrics, including the fact that everyone wants to get into the hybrid handheld PC/consoles market now.
Nintendo combining their handheld and home console was one of the best decisions they’ve made. Now we got all those games on one console and it’s awesome. We’re getting the handheld-like games this year with Zelda and M&L, and most people love the handheld-like games too. So for fans, it’s a win. That’s part of the reason why even in its 8th year, Switch is still delivering new first party games. As long as Nintendo is still selling a lot of software, they can afford to wait on Switch 2 and it seems like all these newly announced games will do well.
The switch is a portable that you can play on your TV like the PSP... Nintendo got out of the home console market with the trash fire that was the wiiu
Anyone who hates on the switch are just fanboys because its a solid system with an impressive first party library as well as console exclusives. Its awesome. I also have a 3080ti and a steamdeck but still love the switch
This is NOT normal, but it SHOULD be the new normal. Consoles can give so much more than companies give them credit for. Xbox Series X and PS5 could give us SO MUCH more for years to come but we ball know they wont even begin to touch the limit of their potential.
Normally, consoles like PS5/XSX should have provided a LONG life and a library full of games of all manner of budgets - IF those platform holders were fostering the right "environment" around their consoles (you'll get a sense of what exactly I mean, in a sec). Those two consoles are certainly powerful enough, to the point where we no longer have to worry about games "not aging well" from a visual standpoint. So, you'd think developers would be at ease, knowing they can just sit back and make the games they want to make, and knowing there's a decent sized installed base, AND a diverse community of gamers so that most "left field" ideas can still resonate with an audience. Sadly, that's far from the case! The environment around current consoles is so hyperfocused on visuals, and the "AAA" moniker that you get the sense that developers actually feel burdened trying to achieve that, WHILE hoping that they make their money back, let alone make a healthy profit. This environment is becoming so unhealthy for business, that even with a combined installed base of over 70 million units, making games(especially of the production value they believe they MUST hit) carries all kinds of risks that shouldn't typically exist at that level of market saturation. That's not the type of environment surrounding Switch, and it's abundantly clear that the foundational principles(of putting gameplay/fun first) is what nurtured this very prosperous development environment, and I see it continuing with the successor to Switch - a console that should be powerful enough to allow them to create any type of game they want, and look good no matter how many years later you play it.
I feel like there’s no reason to get an Xbox series X or Ps5 instead of a PC, like I know a PC is more expensive, but it’ll last you longer, and you can keep upgrading it. For Nintendo, it has so many amazing exclusives to where I don’t even care about the power, but I guess I’m not someone who cares about that as long as it works well enough.
The lineup of PS5 and XSX is very poor so far. You can the memorable titles on one hand. At least when you count only the ones that are not cross gen. This might still change in the future, but this 9th console generation will not go down in history for its legendary game titles.
@@messyjetski2549 I think they are planning to use the switch online hub as the place to launch your past experiences from. For example, i feel like we are going to be able to transition our gamer profile pictures unlocked on NSO to the next console just by logging into our my Nintendo account. They are keeping some elements of the UI cloud based so they can concentrate on the hardware. IMO
Remember when before the Switch launched, so many said it was gonna flop so hard? And all of the videos of defective units and people freaking out? Times changed quickly
I was one of those who thought the Switch would flop. I'm glad I was wrong. I have two Switches, and I love them more than my PS4. I've been made a Nintendo believer.
Yeah, I think racing for the best graphics often causes a drop in overall quality. So many graphically pretty games that just have a generic Unreal Engine style, no story or cinematic substance and mediocre gameplay.
@@budthecyborg4575While many concepts introduced with the Wii U were retained with the Switch, calling it the same hardware as the Wii U is dead wrong. The Switch and Wii U are vastly different consoles when looking at their underlying architectures, as the Switch is based off of the Tegra x1 chip (integrating an ARM architecture) while the Wii U used a practically similar architecture to the GameCube being IBM’s PPC.
I really hope the next Nintendo console is backwards compatible with the Switch’s library of games. I don’t want to have to start over on a new console.
i suspect the architecture of the next console is similar but beefier, because if they release a new console next year, releasing this many new games just for switch seems odd. or that it´s really not realeasing next year, time will tell.
@@basseman4239why? The Switch has a huge install base so it makes sense to keep releasing games for it, why force people over to the new hardware when they’re not ready to move on as the current Switch still has a lot to offer and is still getting bangers.

@@Adamtendo_player_1 believe i missed to write backward compatible, it makes sense to release games for the old sure. but if they release a new console next year what games will it have?
The Switch is not a normal game console. It is the saviour we needed but did not deserve. It does almost everything right, in an era where (most) other big companies do nearly verything wrong. It has something for everyone. It is very much like Gameboy was back in the 90s. That thing was relevant for more than a decade.
I was thinking about the GameBoy as soon as I saw the title too. Both the GB and Switch are/were in their own market segment. Neither had a serious direct competitor so they were able to chug along for a long time before getting replaced.
What if this IS the new normal? What if companies could make consoles that are still prosperous and relevant 7, 8, 9 years afterrelease? What if the game industry was pushed by games and not hardware? What if I weren't mad?
Thinking about the current gen playstation and Xbox consoles, when will there really be a need for the next console? I guess they could target a consistent 4k experience, but VR hasn't taken off and seems to be a niche market. The performance of these systems should be good enough for quite awhile. I'm sure this is nearsighted of me, but the visuals on these consoles feel good enough that I can't see myself really needing an upgrade
@@johnmarquardt9475 even 4K itself is still a niche market. I haven't bought a new display in a decade, why would I when the old ones still work and 1080p is good enough

Something that doesn’t get mentioned enough: because it’s going into its eight year, there are kids just now being old enough to play games. Kids born literally on launch day. There are new customers for the Switch aging into the platform as we speak. The Switch 2 may be on its way, but Christmas is too and there are going to be some very happy kids playing their first console before 2025 and it’s likely to be the Switch.

Mario Kart 8 has a great auto accelerate/assist steer so they can race along with you and never fall off the track and feel like they’re really in control. And even for some of the more complicated games like Breath of the Wild, they just love to run around and collect stuff even if they’re never going to beat the game.
It genuinely is insane how Nintendo came out of the dumps of arguably the worst performing system of all time to arguably the best performing system of all time.
Impressive, but not insane. They didn't panic, they went back to the drawing board. They weren't scared by declining profits and started cutting costs, they invested in their future instead. Nintendo did something the industry should be doing more but every other company is way too focused on short term profits instead.
@lordchaos9148 yea, people forget the 3ds was a big succes. Combined they sold 90 million units. The switch currently is at 140 million so a 1.56 SD increase in sales. Which is definitely an improvement but, they already had the ground work in place they just optimized it, gave it more power, and fixed the marketing.
Not surprising given how the Wii U felt like it had only first party games on it and no support for indie games. It also felt like it released way too fast, since the Wii was still somewhat relevant.
Nintendo has gambled on the smaller lower powered chip, and it is paying dividends. The irony for me with Sony and Microsoft is that they were always boasting about the power of their machines while using old outed PC processors, which can not and could not compete in their own respective markets. The only time we really saw any deviation was the PS3 cell processor. Sony and Microsoft have not differentiated themselves enough from the PC market, and now they are beginning to merge. Nintendo biggest weakness and biggest strength has always been their independence and self-reliance.
Sony and Microsoft can boast about their powerful consoles but because they do that they also have to spend a lot of time and money making games that can show off all that power.
@baronvonslambert What I mean by outdated is the fact that none of it was developed for each system and that they are piggy backing off PC development. You are correct. They are current gen tech, but neither is new or innovative. They are as you so explained in such great detail, just gaming PC's. We may have worded it differently, but the sentiment stays the same for me. Now, the Cell processor was unique and innovative and was put into the PS3 before or along with PC's.
This. I think people think they will reveal it in the potential September direct. I think it’s actually very evident they are milking this/waiting for the right time
I think that's exactly what they're going to do. Why push it out for the holiday when you can release it at anytime when your current console continues to be a juggernaut.
@@zach177 Yeah. This is more likely because announcing it in late summer would possibly prevent the consumer from buying Switch consoles during the holiday season. Jan and Feb are perfect times to announce it because it's a draught and slow period for the gaming industry as people won't have disposable income after just going through the holiday period of spending. Announce it on Feb or March, then launch it in Spring mirroring the Switch 1 launch. This strategy also means there won't be a chaotic launch which is often in Fall.
That's because Nintendo is the only company that gives inherent value to their consoles. Xbox and PS are just underpowered PCs with some exclusives. That's the big difference.
@babyjiren9676 Let's see how well your theory holds in front of evidence, shall we? Nintendo made you pay 50$ for 1-2 Switch. Sony offers Astro for free to all PS5 owners. EA ( yes, that EA ), charged you 50$ for a significant graphical upgrade to Mass Effect 1 that also included remastered versions of Mass Effect 2 and 3, a host of quality of life changes, and all existing DLC. Nintendo gouged you 60$ for a minor graphical upgrade to Skyward Sword and locked the best QoL feature behind an Amiibo pay wall. Microsoft made 90% of the Xbox, 360, and Xbox One libraries backwards compatible with Series consoles and didn't charge a cent to owners of those games. Nintendo killed the virtual console so they could rent you games you already owned via their paid online service. Not even Ubisoft or Blizzard had the gall to sell you cardboard cutouts or a couple of RC cars for 60$, nor did they forced you to buy overpriced action figures just so you could play one of their games. Imagine that, your champions of value are actually just as bad as the companies you despise.
Your right. Is isnt normal. Its almost like they are banking on these games to be foward compatible with the next one; making it a strong selling point, in addition to whatever they will offer at the launch of Switch 2. The eshop will have the greatest consol library (despite its shovelware) of any system; only being second to Steam. That would be quite the accomplishment.
@@basseman4239 The only concern I have about this last direct; is the lack of a Prime 2 and 3 HD re-releases and the missing Zelda Twilight and WW games. If we dint see em released this year, maybe at a Sept Direct stealth drop; then the Switch 2 may release later than March 2025.
@@enriquepinero707i think a stealth drop is highly likely since they did the same with prime 1, i expect a combined game like pikmin 1+2 and only an upscale sometime before prime 4 releases
One thing you can't accuse Nintendo of doing with the Switch, is that it has no games. The amount of 1st party support they have provided on the console is unheard of.
If they make the Console Backwards Compatible with Switch 1 and rival my Steam Deck and Rog Ally in Performance, I will def consider it. Still have 2 Joy Cons that i never use since I don't have a Switch anymore.
Facts! I just wish more of those heavy hitting 3rd party titles I enjoyed made it over as well….My steam deck fixes this But I wished the switch had Sims, madden, the current Resident Evils non cloud, Soul Calibur, The current street fighters, Tekken, watch dogs, The current Grand Theft Autos, Planet Zoo, Planet Coaster and other 3rd heavy hitters…..If it had this it would be my favorite console of all time…..maybe the switch 2 🙏🏿
I’ve been a gamer since the 2600 and I can honestly say, the switch has become my favorite console. The library spans from the 70s to today. It’s all about the games! Definitely the best library of games I’ve owned.
They also know 3rd party support actually matters. All of their most successful systems have had tons of 3rd party support. Their consoles that were primarily carried by only 1st party titles all struggled or outright failed.
Considering the state of the economy in the west right now I think it's smart for Nintendo to delay a switch successor as long as possible. Right now most people can't afford to spend more money on a brand new gaming console. If they launched in a rough economy there's a good chance it would have soft launch sales and after the Wii u I don't think they want to risk that
Nintendo doesn't make expensive hardware. It may be 400$ at most. Cutting some accessories. And hardware-wise would be between a PS4 and a Steam Deck. Technology gets cheaper every year. And if they want full 3rd party support they need better specs. Also the switch would still be alive for years to come. Like 2028 and Nintendo would still release games for the OG switch with the optional plus bonus HD textures for the new one.
It is wild that the NFL doesn’t make them put Madden on the Switch. That’s an insane amount of money on the table. I don’t know how shareholders let them get away with it
Out of all of the companies Nintendo still holds its own when it comes to quality of video games. We're getting to a weird point in history where live service games are going to be overshadowed by single player in a lot of aspects because people are just going to get sick of having to pay for a free-to-play game over and over again. Let's just hope it's sooner than later
It's nice. Nintendo has structured their dev teams each so every team focus on a specific type of game. So i wouldn't be shock that they are able to now deliver so many games every year from so many different IP's.
I always thought that ever since Nintendo lost a lot of third-party support since the Nintendo 64 era, they instead focused on developing titles for genres that usually were provided by those third-parties. So, you got your platformers with Mario, action-adventure with Zelda, FPS with Metroid, shooters with Splatoon, racing with Mario Kart and RPGs with Pokémon, Xenoblade, Mario and Fire Emblem to a certain extent. It's no wonder that many people said that people only buy Nintendo consoles for the exclusives and some try to paint that as a bad thing, but it's a strategy that some other platform makers would kill for, especially considering how Nintendo games usually tend to sell tens of millions of copies. The only major third-party games that managed to sold millions of copies on the Switch were Momotaro Dentetsu, Monster Hunter: Rise and Minecraft I don't want to raise my hopes, but I wonder if the Switch's successor could get more third-party support from Japanese and Western developers, if some third-party games could sell as well as Nintendo's own games in the next console. I feel like many developers missed a lot of opportunities by not trying to develop unique titles for the Switch
To be honest? It all begins with Nintendo itself not treating their own 3rd party library with respect. Basically, if you are not either a Nintendo title or a behemoth like Monster Hunter or Hogwart's Legacy, you get thrown into a sea of shovelware. Let's be honest. How many people are willing to scroll past dozens of bizarre dating simulators, softcore hentai, and cheap 3d horror games to page 7, or 6, or even page 3 to see if they find a good game they didn't knew about? Even when you actually have a game in mind, it's sometimes unnecessarily hard to find it thanks to the absolute joke that is the Eshop game search engine. I'm not saying go plus ultra like Sony did with the marketing campaign for Stellar Blade and Helldivers 2, which lest we forget were first-time AAA titles done by indie studios, but they have to do a far better job if they want 3rd pary support to go back to how it was at the start of the Switch's lifecycle.
@@theviniso I don't remember seeing Hentai Solitaire, Hentai Dating Stories, Bikini Beach: Anime Girls Assault, Couch Bus Driving Simulator, and Notes + Stickers Happy Edition on the PSN store. And before you go thinking I'm making s**t up, every single title I listed is an actual game in the first 20 spots of the recent releases tab on the eShop. The last one is literally what it sounds, a collection of cute themed stickers you can place on a virtual notepad. And just in case you think it gets better, I had to scroll through 76 titles, 90% utter dogs**t, before I came across the Ace Attorney collection, which was released on June 6th.
I will die on this hill: Links Awakening art-style is not only underrated but deserves none of the hate it gets. Honestly that style drives me to the new game much more than had it been a realistic top down style or pixel art. Nothing is wrong with pixel art, especially on retro games, but LA art style is clean, runs well on the switch, and makes me feel like a kid playing Zelda again.
Right? I'm hoping the Switch 2 is 100 percent backwards compatible. Bring all the old classics back as remastered collections and it'll be the best gaming system hands down.
I'm 35 years old. I was a Nintendo fan when I was younger. I got a series x, barely play it. I got a gaming PC. Barely play it. But I enjoy Nintendo games, they are fun and not to serious
Really don't know why some people call the Switch under powered as what were they expecting from it? We all knew it wasn't going to be the graphical monsters that the Xbox Series X and PS5 are but it also shows you don't necessarily need that to be a great console. Also the Switch first party and third party titles are still amazing and if we have to wait until the end of 2025 for the Switch 2 then so be it as long as we gamers keep getting the great games Nintendo releases.
Albeit we don’t get the great yet overpowered (hardware wise) games like the Insomniac Spider-Man games, Grand Theft Auto V, Fallout, The Last of Us, and Halo. At least we get great games like Metroid Prime Remastered, any Mario game and spinoff on the switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of The Kingdom, the many Wii U rereleases on switch, and every Pikmin game (except those two 3DS and mobile games). And with games getting rereleases like Super Mario 3D All Stars, Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, GTA: The Trilogy, and many others is just proof that we don’t need the biggest and baddest piece of hardware or motherboard in a game console in order to have the best selling console of all time. However, it would be great having powerful hardware for the next Nintendo console, I still think that if they had an underpowered console yet still have a lot of games would be good not only for consumers but for Nintendo to make more money. I would still like a console hybrid, but the next Nintendo console will either be like the PSP or it’ll probably be like the Wii.
8:49 Just sold my launch Switch and bought the Tears of the Kingdom OLED. i’m a collector and am happy to finish the run of games with the nicer model while adding special piece to my Switch collection
Uh... BotW & TotK take far more hours than almost all 1st party MS games and most PS 1st party games. What Xbox AAA game takes 200 hours? Maybe if you're insane you could have multiple play-throughs of Horizon ZD/FW, but that's about it for Sony.
Nintendo learned from the Wii U that games, not hardware, sell consoles. That's great because the lineup for the next months looks pretty mouthwatering to me 😅 I also expect the Switch predecessor to be announced pretty close to its actual release because the moment they announce it, Switch sales will probably plummet hard.
Yeah, that's why I'm not expecting an announcement in 2024, it will hurt their holiday sales this year. We'll probably get a teaser in February/March 2025, and then an unveiling in June, with a release in September or November.
Not, but maybe I'm just an outlier. I'd have actually bought one if Nintendo lowered hardware prices to an actual decent amount. I mean, afterall, it is running dated 2015 internals. So £300 is asking too much for a non Pro Switch (even with a OLED screen), and £200 is too much for a Switch Lite that can't even Switch to TV mode. But every year they throw like £30 off with a digital Mario Kart 8 bundle (which like a decade old game by this point). Nintendo don't even try to entice those on the fence, and I guess why not? Things sell anyhow.
@@skycloud4802I mean it’s a portable console with great games. I think for a console to be worth it, it shouldn’t matter about the hardware, it should matter based off the games. I guess it just depends on what type of games you like.

Nintendo Switch is a similar problem (especially with backwards compatibility up in the air with next one). Spending that much money when I could just buy a Steam Deck on the Steam sales (which I did), just strike me better in the value department. So yeah, even if I'm just one person, Nintendo did technically lose one potential customer.
@@tippedjoshua6802exactly this. Not to mention how long the Switch can last on a single charge compared to devices like the ROG Ally. More play time definitely makes it worthwhile.
It makes sense if you consider the information saying the switch 2 is fully backwards compatible. There's no reason to stop making big games for the current switch until after the new one is out or perhaps they won't stop there. The library will transfer to the new one. It's more or less like how sony will release their "pro" consoles. It's essentially the same thing but much more capable.
I'm betting that we got more of a DS situation here because of the games. All the other AAAs have been discovering that pretty graphics mean huge development times and Nintendo has obviously learned from watching them that the only way to seriously hit it out of the park is to keep making a wide variety of games at a steady pace. After all, graphics is a bullet point on the back of the box while content is king.
Honestly, Nintendo have destroyed it with the Switch. I'd not owned a Nintendo Console since the GBA and was on the fence with the Switch. Picked it up first year and havent regretted it, still works fine, never had any stick drift either. I'm hoping their next system is going to be powerful and needs to have back compatability with the Switch.

Nintendo straight up struck gold with the Switch. I adored all of my Game Boy's, DS's, and 3DS's, but the Switch takes things to a whole new level. They would have to be utterly stupid to deviate from what they have working for them. If they decided to release a dedicated home console again, it wouldn't ever live up to the success of the Switch. Gamers have shown that portability matters. Games love being able to take games with them on the go. Imagine a dedicated Nintendo home console without portability and they release a new Animal Crossing game. I'm a working adult with a busy life. I'd miss pretty much every big event. The biggest selling point Nintendo offers is that portability. While the Switch's hardware is absolutely showing it's age, gamers don't mind all that much for the trade-off. I would be happy if Nintendo just kept releasing more powerful versions of the Switch for the rest of my life. I have a gaming PC and other consoles, but most of my time gaming is on my Switch these days. I have games on Switch that I have on PC that I still choose to play on Switch. For all the BS Nintendo pulls with lawsuits and f*cking with emulation/game preservation, I still say they won this "war" a long time ago.
The switch was the first nintendo console I bought since the GBA. I have a ps5 and still play it for the library of fun games it has. If the switch 2 is backwards compatible with the switch and carries over online profiles it will be a guaranteed buy for me.
Oh yes it is, for a beloved console, well cared from the parent company. We don't care for top tier graphics, we want good games and Nintendo delivers.
@@redbeardgaming3034 Who needs high fidelity when you have a charming artistyle?~ That’s a key factor in Nintendo being a titan among many companies with intense fidelity.
The fact that the switch is not selling as well as it used to because people already own one or two is crazy, yet true. And I'm pretty sure the system will still have good sells for the next 2 years
Am I the only one who's not surprised? The Switch is Nintendo's first wildly successful console in a VERY long time. They're not going to let it go so easily. They're going to send it off with a bang, not a whimper. Also, graphics can't get much better. There's less reason to release new hardware these days.
The engines aren’t being optimized which is driving higher spec requirements for games that don’t look or play much better. Far cry 5 released on last gen tech still looks better and runs better than most games released on the current gen systems. The big unreal 5 tech in the matrix demo hasn’t really been seen in any released games yet. Hopefully the issues in that demo have been ironed out by any games planning to use it. I have all the consoles, I’ve yet to see a game really use the PS5 or Xbox series X in a really impressive way. Yes it’ll be nice to have better hardware but honestly I’d prefer devs sacrifice a few effects for stable frame rates and gameplay elements.
I agree...I'm not hating on Nintendo but to be honest, one reason why I haven't bought a switch for myself, just for the kids, the games are not even that good especially when some kids are not interested, they rather be outside.
@@darkspartan566 I get that (and kids rather being outside is a damn good thing), but Switch also has crazy good third-party support for a Nintendo console. Like most of the Science Adventure series is there, the Spirit Hunter Trilogy, tons of great point & click adventures, dozens of great metroidvanias and many great JRPGs, which have rarely been on a Nintendo console since the SNES. I also have the former for Vita and PC, with PC having the best version due to the CoZ patches, but Vita is too small, and I can't sit in front of my PC reading VNs for hundreds of hours ... 🙃
It’s not surprising at all honestly. The Switch is incredibly successful and Nintendo continuing to support it this long makes perfect sense. I agree they will continue to support the Switch up to it’s 10 year anniversary.
People who say they want the Switch replaced with a more powerful, more expensive system, remind me of people who wanted 3DS to die, after the Switch came out. Then when it finally did, people started saying they miss 3DS.
I think something worth noting is that Nintendo didn’t really have another concurrent system alongside the switch the entire time. For past systems like the GameCube, Wii, Wii U, etc. there was always a game boy advance, DS, or 3DS that would have its own releases. Since the Switch worked so well as both a mobile and home console system, it makes sense to prolong the lifespan to cover the lack of secondary systems.
10:30 The NSO stuff doesn't count. It won't last forever. Nintendo will kill the servers eventually, and the hundreds or thousands of dollars that people put into being able to play NES, SNES and N64 games will be worth exactly nothing. It is a travesty that those games are subscription based, and I cry when I realize just how many people just accept that.
There’s a dichotomy amongst gamers. Not all gamers are true nerds. True nerds really like these sort of game-y games. I feel this way about final fantasy VII rebirth and Metroid. It’s only true nerds buying those. Lots of gamers only play like realistic games or multiplayer games. At least soulslikes have broken mainstream. And Zelda.
9:00 here in Brazil, videogames are very expensive, and the switch it's finnaly in a price that Brazilian people can buy it! Furthermore, the Switch has a very large children's market, and every year a new generation of 7, 8 year old children gets their Nintendo Switch. I have a lot of friends who are parents who are going to buy their first video game, and when they ask for my opinion I say "buy a Switch". So I believe that the Switch will last a long time.
This reminds me of the Sega Dreamcast where even tho it died in the US, Sega Japan for some reason kept making games for it until near the start of the 2010s. It's a different story but longevity for a supposed dying console is not new. Look at the PS4, It's still being given support and games to run despite already being a previous-gen console and the PS5 already being out for 4 years now...
Crazy how ppl are just now realizing how much better Nintendo is than MS and Sony But as long as they have COD and 2K they claim Nintendo is inferior. But look at the Switchs llibrary vs Series X and PS5 combined
Of course it’s not normal but it’s to be expected as this is what happens when you combine your handheld and home console audience into one. Plus makes it easier on developers; not having to develop for two separate systems Thank you Mr. satoru iwata
I still think it's sad that Iwata really seemed to accomplish what he set out to do only to not live to see it succeed for this long. He wanted to make gaming for everyone, so he helped create the casual audience, making games more inviting, even to older folks. Eventually, his contributions to the Switch design to combine the handheld and console markets and bridge the gap between hard-core and casual audiences finally bore fruit. And now many many people are just enjoying a great variety of games on an affordable family of consoles for several years, playing games they like. Motion controls, touch screen, couch co-op, handheld, on TV, 1st party, 3rd party, indie games, old favorites, and plenty of remakes and remasters for great games (been a good year to be a Mario RPG fan for example).
This is only possible because the switch is a hybrid home/ portable console. If it wasn't and was only a home console or only a portable then it would not be as successful and supported as it is now like all of other Nintendo consoles this long into their lifespan.
I would luv to see games made in a action figure, toy style, robot chicken, art style. That would be amazing. Like Zelda, Mario, Metroid, toy soldiers, and etc. i like some of the more claymation, crayon, water color, and etc art styles you are seeing today. It really emphasizes how video games are actually artwork and story driven. The soundtrack has really boosted this. This is coming from a guy that started gaming with PONG, super breakout and yar’s revenge as the every day game. 2600!!
Looking back at all these years, the NSW is for me a console of remakes, ports and remasters, those are the games that entertained me the most on this console and those are the games for which I would recommend someone of my age (39) to get this console. If we talk instead about first party exclusive titles, I was left somewhat disappointed by many of those, with wonderful exceptions like Metroid Dread which I still find excellent (lets keep in mind: not a japanese game) and the new Super Mario games. The new Zelda TOTK was nice but not great and, in some aspects (dungeons, bosses, characters), even a step back from BOTW. The best first party JRPGs, Bravely Default 2 and Xenoblade 2 (I did not play the 3) were good but not great, at least for someone like me who lives of bread and JRPGs. Even Bayonetta 3, on which I had lots of hopes, was good but not a masterpiece like the chapter for Wii U. And now we are still waiting for more remasters this year. Is this the right time to say that the videogame industry has some major creativity problems?
This gen isn't "normal". Let's not forget PS5 and XS released during a turbulent time in the world when a deadly disease and world leadership fucked EVERYTHING up, including the economy. PS4 is still seeing activity to this day despite PS5's release. Hell, I was on my One X until this gen getting my Series X this year. Still, not everyone can afford new consoles right now. So I think it's good that not only are devs not ready to bail on PS4 (and XONE to a VERY tiny extent), Nintendo isn't ready to bail on Switch just yet.
Regardless of how much crap we can give Nintendo for how they handle copyright and lawsuits, they sure know how to do what they do best, and that is making games. Nobody makes games and consoles like Nintendo does. The only game company that hasn't changed for the worse recently. They still do it the same as always, making incredible, polished, AAA, finished on release, and most inportantly, fun games. Gotta love Nintendo
Many people in the comments are saying that graphics don't matter, and ya that's true, but it doesn't hurt to have a machine that's at least kinda on par with it's contemporaries. Doesn't have to be the same or better, but not so much worse. I also think since they're mobile platforms unlike the other consoles which are stationary, they can have slightly shorter cycles if they support the previous generation another 3 to 4 years after the new one releases. So if the switch 3 releases let's say 5 or 6 years after the switch 2, maybe the switch 2 can get games for another 3 to 4 years after the switch 3 release but at least now you can play games that have options to have higher fidelity if you have newer console and people with the old one don't need to worry about upgrading immediately day 1. Assuming we get a switch 2 and switch 3. I just don't want another console that's outdated day 1.
I didnt expect to spend too much for later half of this year as i expect Zelda to be back only on Switch 2 somewhere in 2026 and beyond. That Switch Lite and new Zelda game are messing up my 2nd half year game budget 😂
Can we just be honest? First-party titles and hand helds are the only two reasons why Nintendo has been relevant since the N64. Most people own a Switch because of Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. Let's be real. Look at the major releases from Nintendo lately. What is getting the hype? It is their first-party titles. They are amazing and totally awesome. I have owned every Nintendo console and at least one hand-held type from each of their respective generations since the NES. I am a fanboy for sure. However, once the Playstation came out (N64 era), Sony has become my main console of choice. My main platform for gaming has been Sony for every generation since. I say all this because while most of my gaming life has been with Sony, I still have purchased every Nintendo system and many games. You look at my Nintendo game collection from the N64 and beyond, you will only see first-party titles. Nintendo is only alive because of their OUTSTANDING first-party titles and their dominance of the hand-held market. The power of Mario, Zelda, and Metroid is enough to carry them. I will ALWAYS own a Nintendo console. However, Nintendo will NEVER be my main console and my main connection to gaming.
Also, the switch is like the perfect indie console as of now. Playing games like hollow knight, the oris, cult of the lamb and other indies on the go is a plus imo
So uhhh, basically, they have great exclusives and great IPs. It's cool if you have a playstation I guess, but you said all of that just to say something that everyone knows already. Also, nintendo have way more than just Zelda, Mario and Metroid bro, it feels weird that you mentionned metroid of all things but not Pokemon or Kirby.
I got a Wii U a month or two before they annouved the NX and I was a bit put out. I watched the Switch roll out six months later with better versions of all the games I just purchased for the Wii U. I wasn't thrilled that I'd just wasted hundreds of dollars. Three years later the library for the Switch became so robust not only could I not ignore it, I had to have it. The Switch is a unicorn and I felt I had to get as many exclusives for it as possible.
I think the only real question I have with the next generation of Nintendo consoles will be. Are they going to introduce two different consoles? A dedicated home console and a new dedicated handheld console. 🤔
This makes me confident that the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible. Wouldn’t make sense to invest in making so many new games that will become old news soon
typical nintendo being the best at appealing to and satisfying their core audience, despite the underpowered and outdated glorified android tablet they sell lmao. software is king.
They've learned their lessons from the Wii to WiiU transition. There was very little support for the Wii in the last quarter of it's life. People forgot about it, moved on, heard WiiU, didn't know what it was, thought it was a drawing tablet for the Wii. They rested on their laurels, got lazy. They're not letting that happen this time. We've got strong 1st party games until the very end. People won't have a lapse in their attention towards Nintendo like they did with the Wii.
This isn't unusual when you know these titles are likely playable on "Switch 2" and that Switch has been successful. I think with Switch's success, Nintendo has been able to build a library that's going to make Switch 2's library huge. PS1 - PS2 was a smash for that reason
just bought a switch oled with tears of the kingdom. got an ps5 and gaming pc as well. I feel that this is a great family console and will always be trough years to come. I got 4 controllers for my ps5 just for couch gaming but for kids, the switch is the way to go. I think that the lack of power is pushing towards more colorfull and simple textures which is going more inkids friendly environments, opposed to photorealism. Nintendo exclusive games can be played as emulation, but you never have the smooth experience of the native console, even if underpowered. Even compared to the handheld devices, this one comes on top due to the easy to set up couch gaming or to go gaming. Even with nintendo online, accessories and extra costs, in the long run you have a light portable gaming device. For family man you know you get the least bag space when you travel and the switch is the easiest to pack and have ready to go. Thank you for reading and sharing my thoughts your valuable time. ❤
10 years should be the minimum for a console's active life. I dont care about how powerful the hardware is. I only need the games to be fun and am disillusioned by the reality of buying new console and controllers every 5 or 6 years.
I hope Nintendo releases a _Switch 2_ that is like an inch wider and slightly nicer with Hall Effects, but the exact same internals, processor, graphics card, APU. Just soldiers on for 47 years unchanged like the GameBoy.
It’s from the death of Moore’s law. Games and all of tech hasn’t got that much better now. The difference between a 2017 game and a 2024 one is way more different than a 2010 game and a 2017 one. It’s allowed Nintendo to keep the same system going without it looking too much out of date. So if the next console is near enough to something like the PS5 or even on par slightly better than a PS4. With good games the Switch 2 could also last a decade or more. I think they just need to keep it compact and easy for non hardcore gamers they’ll do well.
The only way I can see them selling more Switch 2s is if they were to make the device multipurpose and relatively cheap. It'd need something on the level of the PS2's DVD support.
I don't have a Switch. I currently only have a PS4. At this point I'm waiting to see if a PS5 Pro is real and if so I'll get that and if not I'll get the PS5 Slim with the disc drive. But with the Switch, I've lately been really considering to finally get one but at the same time I'm wondering if the Switch 2 will be a real thing and if it'll be backwards compatible with Switch cartridges.
To be honest who cares if it's normal or not just because I console is old doesn't mean you have to change it just as long as it works and makes you happy that's all that matters
9:30 I work at the local Walmart. I remember a few months after the Switch's release some girls came in asking where we kept our Wiis, and I later learned it was likely because Just Dance was still being released for it.
I think they just tried their hardest to beat PS2's record, they got close, and they created the greatest gaming concept of all time, the hybrid model, and thank's to its popularity we now have handheld PCs.
they got close.. it's not over yet, and with this new lite system, I find it impossible for the switch not to surpass the PS2 official sales by late 2025 (and that's if there's extra slowdown)
They didn't create the hybrid model. Other systems were portable and also home consoles. The PSP was able to connect to the TV and play on a big screen and that was before Switch.
@@vectoralphaSec they made the concept popular, they delivered with a true hybrid system while the promise of PSP and Vita failed in giving us true console gaming on the go. Plugging a psp into a TV isn’t the same as a hybrid model. It’s not like having a ps4 in your pocket, if the vita could play ps4 games natively that would be a comparison, but PlayStation thinks streaming is good enough, it’s not.
Being fair they’re probably continuing development with the switch because the next console will be a backward compatible successor instead of a total replacement. The software wouldn’t be confined to a replaced console.
I bought my Nintendo Switch on launch day and it’s served me faithfully all these years. Still, it’s not a very powerful system and I’m noticing that with every new game I get. At this point I’m just waiting for a price drop on the OLED so I can upgrade but I definitely plan on buying myself a second system.
Nintendo supporting physical media is a plus too.

Sony bought off all Nintendo's dev studios.

I agree 100%.
"we ball"
The lineup of PS5 and XSX is very poor so far. You can the memorable titles on one hand. At least when you count only the ones that are not cross gen. This might still change in the future, but this 9th console generation will not go down in history for its legendary game titles.

The Switch is not a normal game console. It is the saviour we needed but did not deserve. It does almost everything right, in an era where (most) other big companies do nearly verything wrong. It has something for everyone. It is very much like Gameboy was back in the 90s. That thing was relevant for more than a decade.
The Switch is more than just like the Game Boy.
online gaming is bad. But they're the goats of couch co-op
I was thinking about the GameBoy as soon as I saw the title too. Both the GB and Switch are/were in their own market segment. Neither had a serious direct competitor so they were able to chug along for a long time before getting replaced.

Yeah any game worth playing on those consoles will be on PC eventually
Sony and Microsoft can boast about their powerful consoles but because they do that they also have to spend a lot of time and money making games that can show off all that power.

@baronvonslambert What I mean by outdated is the fact that none of it was developed for each system and that they are piggy backing off PC development. You are correct.

Exclusives for 2 months at most.
@babyjiren9676
Let's see how well your theory holds in front of evidence, shall we?
Whatever. Shillamoto.😎
Yall so salty over a company it's so sad
Your right. Is isnt normal. Its almost like they are banking on these games to be foward compatible with the next one; making it a strong selling point, in addition to whatever they will offer at the launch of Switch 2. The eshop will have the greatest consol library (despite its shovelware) of any system; only being second to Steam. That would be quite the accomplishment.
also expect it wil be forward compatible, i think the next console basically will be a beefier switch with similar architecture.

Nintendo knows software matters for their consoles
They also know 3rd party support actually matters.
All of their most successful systems have had tons of 3rd party support. Their consoles that were primarily carried by only 1st party titles all struggled or outright failed.
Not really considering Nintendos line up of first party games.they have more first party games then xbox and sony combined
Considering the state of the economy in the west right now I think it's smart for Nintendo to delay a switch successor as long as possible. Right now most people can't afford to spend more money on a brand new gaming console. If they launched in a rough economy there's a good chance it would have soft launch sales and after the Wii u I don't think they want to risk that
The BRICS countries will replace the dying degenerated West
We dont need a successor til 2028
Nintendo doesn't make expensive hardware. It may be 400$ at most.
Cutting some accessories.
And hardware-wise would be between a PS4 and a Steam Deck.
Technology gets cheaper every year. And if they want full 3rd party support they need better specs.
Also the switch would still be alive for years to come. Like 2028 and Nintendo would still release games for the OG switch with the optional plus bonus HD textures for the new one.

People still spending money til this day.
It is wild that the NFL doesn’t make them put Madden on the Switch. That’s an insane amount of money on the table. I don’t know how shareholders let them get away with it
Honestly I don't even like sports games and I would get that.
Because they can't push micro transactions on Switch.
@SobiTheRobot how? Nba 2k24 and ea fc are literally on the system. They just dont want to put those games there.
The only major third-party games that managed to sold millions of copies on the Switch were Momotaro Dentetsu, Monster Hunter: Rise and Minecraft
I don't want to raise my hopes, but I wonder if the Switch's successor could get more third-party support from Japanese and Western developers, if some third-party games could sell as well as Nintendo's own games in the next console.
@@mappybc6097 Isn't that the norm for every single game shop? Shovelware is simply the majority of games, no platform can avoid that.

The last one is literally what it sounds, a collection of cute themed stickers you can place on a virtual notepad.

Nintendo learned from the Wii U that games, not hardware, sell consoles. That's great because the lineup for the next months looks pretty mouthwatering to me 😅
I also expect the Switch predecessor to be announced pretty close to its actual release because the moment they announce it, Switch sales will probably plummet hard.
Successor
Ha. Tell that to Sony and their unnecessary PS5.
Yeah, that's why I'm not expecting an announcement in 2024, it will hurt their holiday sales this year. We'll probably get a teaser in February/March 2025, and then an unveiling in June, with a release in September or November.
The Wii U had good games though
“Everyone who wants a switch has one”
I mean maybe, kids turn 5 years old every day though and a switch is a really good present
@@skycloud4802you can probably purchase a lightly or not at all used switch on a secondary market for $200 or less

Perfectly normal if your next console is backwards compatible, and you'll ship these for several years
Honestly, Nintendo have destroyed it with the Switch. I'd not owned a Nintendo Console since the GBA and was on the fence with the Switch. Picked it up first year and havent regretted it, still works fine, never had any stick drift either.

Switch 2 will be a console which will have a similar life span. The Switch wasn't even a bespoke gaming device in terms of chipset.
Oh yes it is, for a beloved console, well cared from the parent company.
We don't care for top tier graphics, we want good games and Nintendo delivers.

Develop for the system and the console will never show its age.
Good developers can get great results from most hardware
This reminds me of the Sega Dreamcast where even tho it died in the US, Sega Japan for some reason kept making games for it until near the start of the 2010s. It's a different story but longevity for a supposed dying console is not new. Look at the PS4, It's still being given support and games to run despite already being a previous-gen console and the PS5 already being out for 4 years now...
Crazy how ppl are just now realizing how much better Nintendo is than MS and Sony
But as long as they have COD and 2K they claim Nintendo is inferior. But look at the Switchs llibrary vs Series X and PS5 combined
It’s a sad situation that Nintendo doesnt have a dedicated shop in Turkey with local currency, and physical games are fucking expensive here.
Interesting, I’m not from Turkey so I don’t know but that sounds pretty bad!
Of course it’s not normal but it’s to be expected as this is what happens when you combine your handheld and home console audience into one.
Plus makes it easier on developers; not having to develop for two separate systems
Thank you Mr. satoru iwata
This is how Handhelds should always have been. The GPD Win was ahead of its Time with that Concept.
Gotta love Nintendo
ps2 was the only other one to receive continued support from devs even 10 years into its lifecycle.
The Switch was two full years from announcement to release. The successor system hasn't really been announced yet. It could come out as late as 2027.
you looked kinda tired today, hope everything is going well health wise and thank you for all the videos you do!
Looking back switch was the best purchase in my gaming history. So many fun games, remakes and retro stuff.

The switch really is the best console Nintendo has made, I don't know how they could top it
I didnt expect to spend too much for later half of this year as i expect Zelda to be back only on Switch 2 somewhere in 2026 and beyond. That Switch Lite and new Zelda game are messing up my 2nd half year game budget 😂
Seeing so many people finally realizing Nintendo's strengths and positives legitimately makes me so happy.

Man fighting game and rpg fan's eating good this year had to hold in my scream when i seen dq3 and mvc collection
That would just be funny
The switch 2 may be slightly bellow a Steam Deck.
Backwards compatibility will allow younger generations to play games that released on the Switch One, so that already gives some extra shreds.

With how expensive and long games take to make, people now questioning if a new console every 5 years is worth it.
Wait for the Switch 2 or buy a Switch lite 😊.
To be honest who cares if it's normal or not just because I console is old doesn't mean you have to change it just as long as it works and makes you happy that's all that matters
Nintendo's projection for the eighth year sales for the Switch are equal to what the WiiU sold lifetime
@@vectoralphaSecthe switch is intended to be a hybrid console. The PSP has that as a side feature.
It's not over yet I have yet bought a Switch I'm about to
Being fair they’re probably continuing development with the switch because the next console will be a backward compatible successor instead of a total replacement. The software wouldn’t be confined to a replaced console.
You know what would be interesting? If all these titles are actually launch titles on the next system thanks to the Nintendo Account System
I could be wrong, but maybe this is because they're aiming for a holiday 2025 release for the Switch successor.
We don’t need new consoles coming out replacing each other constantly. We need longer support for (multiplayer) games
