- The video game industry is currently going through a rough time at the moment, With Sony Interactive Entertainment, AKA PlayStation, being one of the many companies being affected right now. There are currently many problems that are plaguing modern PlayStation. From a lack of consistent first party game releases, to using the same handful of IPs over & over again, such as The Last of Us, Horizon, & God of War. Combine this with the lack of effort from Sony to try & fix these issues, it becomes incredibly apparent that Sony has been taking PlayStation fans for granted as of late. Join me as we take a look at all of these issues & showcase the current pathetic state of modern PlayStation

I’m seriously convinced there is some money laundering going on in both Hollywood and gaming. The budgets are insane and the quality is ASS.
It's just proving that smaller teams, with smaller budgets and bigger passions, make better games and movies. Once your doing it just to make a dollar it doesn't produce the same product, you actually have to give a shit about these things in order to produce a good product. We play all these new games and can tell it's just the same backwash shit they give us over and over again trying to replicate what a team with passion and a creative idea did 20 years ago.
Absolutely the playstation scalper season was the big money laundering in the beginning nobody ever can tell me. A Company is so stupid to not produce enough and selling thousands or 20 thousand consoles to 1 scalper retailer on thier website with bots while normal people dont even can check in because it's way too fast. This whole thing was to make the ps 5 look more rare and it build up reputation like ps 5 is the Apple of gaming. EVERYTHING WAS HORSEBALLS FROM THE BEGINNING THE WHOLE PS 5 SITUATION WAS RIGGED ON PURPOSE BECAUSE OF GREED!

Say what you will about Nintendo, But at least the company takes advantage of the indie and double AA games with the indie world showcase and what not. Along with the fact that they're still releasing games for the switch, even if some of them are remakes/remasters of their old games
@@alphonsejohnson5601 exactly. Nintendo is generally very good about supporting its consoles, and the Switch has had a phenomenal run. It actually boggles my mind how so many people are upset that Nintendo hasn’t announced new hardware yet. Considering the issues Sony, Microsoft, and other publishers are seeing with skyrocketing game development costs and less return year over year, I’d say Nintendo is showing the industry and customers a more sustainable avenue.

This gen I’m disappointed in both Sony and MS.
HiFi looks AAA in terms of production lol animation and polish wise. That said yeah the price tag shows it's not a big game.

I just came to the epiphany that gaming is simply too big for its britches.
Too many shareholders that heard about how lucrative the industry is, jumping in and making demands without any idea of how to make a fun video game.
The indie market is thriving because of its detachment from the more money hungry side of the industry. They just want to make good games.
The indie market is “thriving” because so many people make small games and the vast majority of them fail and are financial disasters for the people making them. So every now and then you have a gem.

Returnal is the one exception. And one of the best 3rd person shooters ever made. When I played it at release I thought, "Wow, ps5 is looking like the future of gaming......... Returnal is still the best game for ps5 nearly 3 years later. SMH"

Did FF7 remake bomb? That game sold 7-8 million copies and the sequel has already sold well over 2 million, mind you, in one of the worst economic states in the history of the country + without the benefit of the pandemic.

Their U.S. and Japan-based offices would be merged, and they are now headquartered in California. Then they started censoring games in around 2018, namely Japanese games with sexualized women. Then they released the pathetic PlayStation Classic mini console. From there, it continued to get worse and worse and worse and worse for PlayStation. And here we are today.

I've replayed the first Spiderman and even Miles Morales multiple times and like them still.
But I don't feel like replying Spiderman 2.
It's more of the same but for many reasons it just doesn't feel the same. It doesn't have that spark and passion that make me care.
It's hard to put a precise finger on everything causing it, but it is definitely a problem. I could honestly resell the game and not miss it

I think the gaming industry has to slow down. There are a LOT of video games to play. I've been focusing on 10+ old games from my backlog. If you need more games, look into retro

The industry has to stop wasting their time with 100.000.000+ games and get back to making smaller AA and indie game franchises which dont take years to make. We used to get complete trilogies over the span of 5 years back then, nowadays people are waiting 10+ years for certain franchises like GTA and Elder Scrolls to finally continue.
As an Xbox fan, all i can say is... welcome to the party. I miss the days of the OG Xbox and Xbox 360... much like i miss the days of the PS1, PS2 and PS3 and PS4.

Have you actually looked at how many people have bought the Portal? And how well rated it is amongst those who have one? You'll be hard pressed to find a single negative review because the people who bought them have good reason i own one. It's too expensive, but for anyone that likes digital purchases, has kids, or an hour free at lunch, it's an awesome product.
Sony puts out press release after press release praising the sales figures & quote, "Demand continues to exceed our expectations." To the point scalpers are now seeking them to sell at higher than retail price due to such high demand. But sure you can keep believing it's another Sony failure.

PS5 would be in a different situation if they had stellar games that were debuted as a series on to the ps5. Without those games, it just feels like the ps5 generation has no identity; like if the ps5 was just the 3rd iteration of ps4, not its own thing

I was missing old Sony since the PS3 days...
We're at the point in gaming where exclusives are going to die. Game development is at the point where it's too expensive to justify exclusivity. Nintendo can get away with it because the people buying their consoles aren't looking for "next gen" graphics and gameplay, so the games are a lot cheaper to make. The people who mainly play PlayStation or Xbox are looking for "next gen" experiences. Those experiences are expensive. Consoles are becoming what they were always heading towards; a cheaper alternative to buying a PC. Sony and Microsoft are businesses. They didn't decide to bring exclusives to PC out of the kindness of their heart. It's because that's the only thing that makes financial sense.
People are going to be exposed to the harsh reality that they really are clowns when they start shitting on one plastic box in favor of the other when the day comes where there are no exclusives. I share the same mentality, gaming as it is cannot stand on its own with exclusive titles. Unless they double the price to 140 a game.
@TheAfterglowProject Yeah, people already take issue with $70 games. Imagine if they had to pay the amount required to make exclusives profitable. There are games that sell 2 million copies that lose money being sold at $60/$70.
To be fair, I'd say the reason why Nintendo can get away with exclusives is the fact that those games are developed by their own internal studios and due to their console being much more weaker compared to PS and Xbox they can sort of get away with the fact that they aren't as graphically impressive companies to the competition, though it also helps that almost all of Nintendo's games have a very stylized look and don't go for a photorrealistic style, not to mention that their budgets are probably much more lower than traditional AAA or even AA games

I feel that the kind of money and time AAA games take these days is unsustainable.
The same exact thing is going on in Hollywood with big movies.
They cost so much time and money to make that chances are you going to be losing a lot of money if it isn't a smash hit.
And sometimes, even when it is a hit, they still lose a ton of money.
And instead of switching to a more reasonable strategy, they lay off employees and close studios.
Big budget games are the same way. They've grown too big in scope and money for their own good.
Obviously, you still get the increasingly rare super hits that only huge studios and money can pull off. But they are so difficult and rare.
Yet they still try all the time, leading to failure and the shutdown of the studios.
Frankly, it's stupid.
This is definitely why Sony has started putting their games on PC.
Despite the mass casual audience consumption and praise, they still struggle to make money off of them.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of their biggest PS5 games so far have failed to even make a real profit yet. Because they spend SO much freaking money on them.

I saw a meme when the ps5 came out that said “the ps4 has made us confident so we will screw up the ps5.” Talk about some future sight.
PS5 was the worst purchase I have made and everytime I booted it up I felt like I got ripped off. Never had this feeling once in all my 20 years of playing games and I got a fucking wii u on launch day, 3ds on launch.

it definitely does appeal to the 'cinematic' appeal but that's just the aesthetics, and both TLOU games are more lenient of having a different game formatted medium that will work for a 'game' - only which 95% of TLOU is you playing the game through the gameplay, and the different formatted medium it took for its gameplay and storytelling...
GoW 4 is clearly inspired by it, and it certainly does balance it out more than TLOU which is more lenient towards the gameplay, whereas Ragnarok didn't balance that out at as well as GoW 4 did.
I gave up on PlayStation when they started their censorship policy. Nothing short of getting rid of that anti-consumer policy will get me to even consider getting a PS5. EDIT: Also, the PS5 isn't cheap.

Sony has brand recognition, and they know it, and I have a worrying theory about what they're going to do about it.
Historically, consoles are sold at a loss and companies make their money primarily from game sales, which is a huge reason why consistent release schedules and exclusives are so important. The PS5, despite being comparable in quality to a trail of spit on a wall, has already sold over 50 million units. Streamers, celebrities, TikTok personalities, they all flex PS5's in the same vein (pun intended) as they do their Lamborghinis and their Balenciaga. Sony has proven that they care more about profits than gamers. I hate to use this term, but the "normies" with too much money who will buy anything remotely trendy are the new target audience.
Effectively, Sony can release a new console, raise the price above what it's actually worth, and do absolutely nothing to support its library, which will obviously give them an excuse to shut down even more studios. Then, a few short years down the line, they can release another worthless piece of hardware that appeals to nobody but everyone apparently _needs_ to have... and then bam. Sony becomes the new Apple. Supported by a sea of consumers who only understand "buy" and "spend."
Sony choosing to move to California, and abandoning Japan Studio was the dumbest choice the company ever made, especially because Japan Studio also helped with one of the best Playstation games, that tons of people still praise and wish a remaster and sequel "Bloodborne".
I'm just surprised their fans never hold them accountable, and instead deflect to insulting Xbox.
When MS f'd up the announcement of the XB1, fans spoke with their wallet & jumped ship. But when Sony continues to show they'll just keep screwing you over, they excuse it & even attack pro-consumer things from other companies?
- Being transparent, Microsoft announces most 1st party games will be cross-gen for the first couple years, drawing the ire of the internet. Sony responds with "we believe in console generations" & recieves all the praise.... Then they proceed to release nearly ever 1st party game cross gen on PS4 anyway.
- In an unprecedented move, Sony INCREASES hardware prices 2 years *AFTER* launch!
- Charges you a $10 upgrade fee for some PS5 versions of PS4 games you already own
- Raises prices to $80 on *BASIC ONLINE!*
- Increasingly releases games on PC, despite fans mocking MS for doing that years earlier
- Retools PS Now & PSN to more closely compete with Game Pass, despite fans insulting GP users as "broke" and mocking them for not buying all their games
- Remakes & "Remasters" of recent games, including ones with remasters already & the most recent entries in a series!
And this is after years of other issues (like being pulled kicking & screaming into allowing cross play/cross saves), releasing Spider-Man 2 as their only AAA 1st party developed game for 2023 & 2024, and buying 3rd party exclusivity to keep games off other platforms.
Meanwhile, the "Xbox has no games/Xbox only has Halo, Gears & Forza" crowd are pre-ordering & buying up MS games on PS5 like crazy... none being Halo, Gears or Forza? Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded... games that existed this whole time on Xbox, proving they were ignored only for fanboy reasons.
Oh, and you keep hearing people brag about "whole slate" coming to PS5. "Whole slate" of what? I thought Xbox had no games? So nothing is coming, right? And if those games do come & are successful, it just reaffirms that they were unfairly dragged through the mud for console wars nonsense.
I say all this as a Nintendo fan/PC-only guy, having zero Xbox consoles.

Xbox owner here. I think Microsoft continues to F up left and right. I love gamepass and the indie games but it shouldn't be a substitute. The reason I don't have a PS5 though is because I would be playing the same triple A games anyway because im not into what they are selling rn. Every PS5 exclusive is a 3rd person action game with forced on the nose storytelling that tells you what to think(aside from Ragnarok imo) and I'm just not really into that genre. I've been waiting for playstation to give me any reason to get a PS5 and I'm hoping silent hill 2 remake is it but we will wait and see.

So, the problems are exactly like Xbox, and Nintendo. None of the big three are exactly throwing out new exciting releases, left and right, they all need online subscriptions, all hardware and games are expensive everywhere. And even if PlayStation had game pass I wouldn't sign up, I want to own my games, not rent them, I don't treat games like movies. The entire industry is just in a weird place right now.
PS5 is part of a garbage console generation. Barely any good games, wasted 2 years of its life cycle by not circumventing scalpers and dared to increase the price for its 3 year old console. The only good thing it's done is haptic triggers despite failing miserably at mandating its use to developers so it's severely underutilized.
Haptic triggers felt so cool with Doom: Eternal. It actually *felt* like you were shooting different weapons

Game development companies have to fund their HR and DEI departments.
Both of these companies are a complete circus. Lack of variety is my biggest problem with this generation and last generation. Variety apparently died in the 7th gen.
Sony used to have so much variety in their franchises that for some time, I actually prefered their IPs over Nintendo's. But ever since the PS4, the publisher has released only a dozen or so major games with very similar gameplay and systems with little deviation. That approach has completely bit them in the ass with the PS5 with how ridiculously long development cycles have gotten.
Sony absolutely needs to scale back the production of their games considerably. Their current direction and business model is not sustainable and will only hurt them in the long run in terms of financial success and consumer morale. They need to bring back long dormant IPs, invest in smaller and more unique games, and ditch the homogenous cinematic style they've adopted since The Last of Us.
I remember when me and the boys were hyped about the ps5 release back in 2020. it was almost impossible to get one. Eventually when i was hollering through the town we found a shop that sold 2 ps5‘s a month and we immedietly bought them. Its been 4 years since then and the console collects dust since

This is so true. I got a Ps5 for Christmas last year and for what? No exclusives and Sony literally telling me “Just got the console? Too bad no new exclusive games until next year” and at that point I’m gonna be picking up that rumored switch 2 and its games, so Sony already lost my money.
I get wanting more of the older variety of Sony games during PS3 and PS4 and that they are missing smaller titles BUT this "what do i have this for there is nothing to play" mentality is beyond me.
If you got a console is so you can play games on it, not to wait for that specific game that can only be played on that console.
And in that department there are dozens of games released every month.
Just play games and have fun.
And even that game list of few exclusives is double if you consider that many titles are excluded just because they made a PS4 version as well. Sackboy isn't there, God of War isn't there, Horizon isn't there, Kena Bridge of Spirits isn't there, Grand Turismo 7 isn't there etc.
All those are games released during PS5 life circle but they made versions for PS4 as well so they don't get put on the list.
PS2 is loved by all and praised for the rich game library but during PS2 Sony didn't release that much first party. It was mostly third party games. But people didn't care because they went to the PS2 shelf on the store and had all types of games to pick and play and they were happy. No one sat there calculating if the console was worthless because Sony released only one or two games that year that was actually made by themselves.
Why do people treat consoles so different now? Why don't you just get excited to play games and you only get excited if it is some first party game?

Sold my PS5 last year because i didn't see any reason to keep it. Almost no new IPs, way too few games, almost all exclusives got PC ports, heavy DEI influence in their games. Recently asked my friend to lend me his console to play Stellar Blade and it was a blast, if Sony released a few games of that quality per year they would still be at a top.
most of the layoffs in the gaming industry right now are not because the companies are struggling but rather because the people up top can't comprehend why the insane growth during covid is not persisting. Most gaming companies are still very much very profitable.
The PS5 is currently still the best selling console (outselling the switch on a weekly basis) despite no games, so from a management perspective it does really seem that people will buy the "upgrade" anyways hence the PS5 Pro

But Gpu's cost 3 times as much as they used to, for the price difference I can buy a PS5, a TV, several years of PS Plus and don't have to cope with millions of cheaters in every online game.

Different times as well. Metoo and cancel culture has changed society and how entertainment is made. That's the reason the OG God of war games aren't even on new systems. Consored remakes like re4 remake. Although it was good but it changed some dialogue that was considered "offensive".
Couple that with corporate greed and completely safe no risk business practices and you have recipe for disaster.
The older devs never had restrictions. They put entertainment first. Thats the reason ps2 and ps3 were the goats. Ps4 had great game in early going but 8th Gen was already showing signs of the problems I mentioned.

For me the only reason to own a PS5 so far is Stellar Blade. Not being w0ke, or filled with microtransactions, having almost zero issues, it's optimized af is what sold me. And yes i don't mind paying 70$+ for those type of games cause we need more of those. The story is short and good at best but the rest of the game is what sold me the most. The gameplay. I don't like at all Soulsborne genre games but this one even though it has elements to it i loved it. It's not as brutal as the Souls games but it makes a good balance between easy and hard. Currently I'm on my mid 4th NG+ playthrough.
But it got censored though, twice. So I wouldn't count that out and I highly doubt it would be uncensored considering this is Sony we're talking about who would hardly uncensor the games they've touched.
@@fantoniumnitrous yes sadly it did. I was very annoyed by it but it can't be reversed sadly. Online petitions and bragging about it won't do anything unless you file them a class action lawsuit so heavy that they will change it. Also the Helldivers 2 controversy was resolved because it's just a PSN login requirement thus making it easy to reverse. But remember they will do this in future games so they just delayed the outcome.
@@MikeTheGreek right now I don't have any confidence in any new game they publish like the Chinese game Lost Soul Aside which would most likely get censored as well for the sake of it. Sony has next to no first-party releases this year and have to rely on second-party or third-party releases, except they still aren't getting much because Sony Interactive Entertainment is such a woke and greedy ass company that no AA or Indie developer would want to even work with them so they only get AAA developers to work with like Square Enix, Koei Tecmo or SHIFT-UP whose games take longer to make that further slows down the releases. And with the Helldivers II situation they had, it has basically just been one shit storm after another.

@@MikeTheGreek Well unfortunately I don't agree with the PC part as companies, for some reason, always like having every version intact regardless of eased restrictions so the PC could end up being the same as the consoles (though you could still mod it out.) The fact that it's a "Remaster" rather than a simply "Port" already sets red flags.
I remember back in 2017-2019 hyping up persona and getting into Yakuza through the sale. When the ps5 barely stayed on shelves during a pandemic of all times, I lost hope in even saying "I'll get it when it's cheaper, like my ps4" Just to face the very same issues as you. the very "Exclusives" Sony brags about comes to Pc with better optimizations and mods to spice things up. Helk, I remember Nintendo at least trying with Indie games and making new IPs (granted they never stuck, but games like astral chain, Bayonetta, no more heroes and katana 0 having homes on the switch outside of PC ports is also alarming)
The debate was always "Xbox got the best graphics, Xbox got the multiplayer market, Xbox got no games" which makes it ironic having never got PS+ outside of the free trials because of the market being pathetic with releases and the rare ps2 or pc port that helps add variety outside of "Action, racing, open world, SERIOUS."
As games get ports anyways and the console war stops mattering, I find myself wanting to try out games on the switch, trying out high fi rush and Sunset overdrive, helk I even wish the persona games got ported to Pc faster, so I didn't need to hype up the game for royal to just release and make old purchases redundant.
And as much of a Sony fanboy I was growing up with ps1 and 2, seeing Sony practically make huge movie like experiences each time without some variety of genre and expectations like Spiritfarer and baulder's gate 3 making everyone angry cause "They're mundane."

I’ve started to notice that once they’re done with an IP, they kill their online mode. LittleBigPlanet, Twisted Metal, ModNation Racers, and soon they’ll come after Uncharted.
But still we are going back to my old hold back that I have always had for years and the main reason why I didn't buy a ps4 only after whole years after the ps5 launch. Something that baffled me since I have heard about a ps plus, the fact that you cannot play online, fucking online, a feature that I had always been used to since I was little and decided to press on a wifi connect button and just simply play a game online/multiplayer on a pc or a fucking smartphone. The fact this console is just a useless box with hardware in it most of the time without a paid life support was and still is baffling to me, when I can just buy a pc and plug an ethernet cable then press play on a multiplayer game. I mean to me a subscription is something extra not a permission to fucking breathe

Covid screwed everything up. Along with goofy rising interest rates making people take less risky investments in things like unique games or any sort of software/tech venture in general. There's layoffs along all these sectors. The only unique/risky games in recent years came from indie devs.

Ps1 and ps2 had a massive amount of exclusive rpgs. PS5 excluding remasters have none. Just saying from an rpg game fan.
It's only FINAL FANTASY XVI or FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH. Neither of which were published by Sony.

Sony owns the IP of Bloodborne. So it's up to Sony on IF there'll be a Bloodborne 2 or remake. Not up to FromSoftware.

More realistic doesn't equel fun. Now days more games feel like they are interactive movies then games. And Sony is definetly the worst offender of this. They focus so much on making games more realistic and cinematic, that they have completly forgotten what gaming meant to a lot of people, especially in the old days. Heck, the new Sony/PlayStation CEO even said at one point that he hates older games. Yeah, really shows how much they don't care about the brand they are trying to make or the things that made them succesful in the first place. You knows things are bad with modern gaming that I spent my money more on older consoels and their games. I rather play on my PS2 & PS3, rather then on a PS4 or PS5.
The fact that they don't have constant major game releases and for the rest of the year is the reason why i use old consoles nowadays more than my PS5

Publishers should really start exploring double A games that they can release at a $40 price point. They will probably be surprised at how much people are willing to spend money if that is the price they will pay.
No need to maximize or push the graphical prowess of modern consoles, just as long as the performance is 60fps always that is already fine

The moment when "It used to be better in my times" isn't just pure pink glasses nostalgia..... I spend practically my whole life loving playing on my playstation consoles (pc, nintendo too but less). It hurts me like near 8 year from now I see my favorite platform to downward spiral
The ps5 costs about 14k to 16k (depends on what it comes with) here in my country (Namibia it's in Africa). Translate that to USD and it'd be 853 USD, so still a lot I think.
Also dualsense has very poor support on PC.
I know that the controller is usable through DS4 but still sucks that my controller cannot plug and play for 90% of the games and the haptics and adaptive triggers are missing too. And for the games that have dualsense support you have to be wired for the adaptive triggers and hd haptics to work.
Yeah some games who have haptics dont even have them on pc which is dumb

Been thinking of getting a PS3, PS3 slims are available in used in markets I know of, and already asked my besto friend to give me his ps2 because he doesn't use it anymore
PS3 is a great choice. You can still buy plenty of PS1 and PS2 games on the store as well.

Get a Slim PS3 that still supports CFW, those don't overheat, you can enable software PS2 emulation which allows to perfectly play the majority of PS2 games and you have remasters for games that don't work good like the Ratchet & Clank trilogy. PS1 compatibility on the other hand is 99% on all PS3s, plus the CFW lets you bypass region locks so you can play Japanese PS1/PS2 imports. The console is also capable of playing some PSP games as well if you're interested then just slap it with a 1TB hdd or ssd so you can fit all your games.
It's currently the best console one can get right now if you know how to use it.

Gaming is a shit show right now, this isn't a time for platform wars, if we want better games that release unbroken, without missing content behind a pay wall, sequal after sequal and remaster after remaster, then we need to stick together and vote with our wallets, this is coming from a PC gamer.
Well this is why I mostly stick to indie games/AA games now.. Sometimes you can find hidden gem in those games.. Pc gamer btw

With gaming on a rise, also due to the covid situation I did expect this… Now everyone wants to check in and pump out games even in the states they are coming out… Do you remember when games come out and there weren’t any “day 1” patches?
Many people didn't play on the PS2 or OG Xbox.
PS3 and Xbox 360 was when it started being normal to have day 1 patches.

The PS6 will he expensive AF so it'll take some time until the remaining PS users get the new machine. But as it is said in the video, PS5 doesn't have a lot of games.
Also, all this ESG garbage forcely included in almost every AAA proyects is losing tons of money.
To be honest, if Sony PS must fall so be it. Hopefully they will learn from their mistakes.
