    "A five year old winterheart", a child born in the heart of the winter: Our poet was born December 25 and he was named Tuomas...As for the flight missing from Yuletide, my guess is the flight on the Snowman's back from Nightwish's cover of the song "Walking In The Air" with Tarja (originally by Howard Blake for the 1982 movie "Snowman")...

      The Snowman movie has been traditionally shown on Christmas Eve in Finland. In an interview Tuomas said:
      “My favorite song to pack to deserted island is definitely Walking In The Air. It has a lot of childhood nostalgia. The Snowman cartoon has always been watched on Christmas Eve, and somehow the thought of being able to fly in the snowy sky with the snowman appeals to me.”

    Annette has a fantastic voice. I love her two albums with the band. She was more suited to the softer material in my opinion. She suffered a bit in a live setting because she didn't quite have the presence to carry a metal band. Fantastic to see her back making music again though.

    This Tuesday I made "a pilgrimage" to Kitee, hometown of Nightwish. There is a wonderful Nightwish Story Exhibition! Local guide showed me childhood homes of Tuomas and Tarja. He also showed me that meadow which this song relate. This is an incredible song to end this amazing album!

      @@GuylainPrince I think Tuomas aimed for simplicity in the lyrics to get this feeling of childhood.

  • @davidcoyne7291
    @davidcoyne7291 2 года назад +7

    As I understand it this song is a form of resurrection and very closely linked to the first song on the album Poet and the pendulum. Mention is made in that song to ' My home was there and then, those Meadows of heaven' Tuomas seems to have clung to those childhood memories through his darkest moments which eventually lead him back to life and happiness. And so the cycle of the album is complete, death to resurrection, dark days to light.

    For those who never listen Anette's live version let's take a lesson of great talented singer who she is.
    She is incredible to many kinds of music,pop,rock, metal,jazz and certainly gospel, she is phenomenon singer and she never wanted to be famous, just loving to sing.
    She is part time singer, she is a nurse but she records at least three albums every year for several projects, solos,her band Dark element etc.
    Guylain you have right 👍 if we see the whole album DPP now the entry song and the finish song we have a complete era's album, the healing album, this album has so beautiful songs, so different at the same time, with plenty of emotions, with heavy metal songs, symphonic songs, ballads, Celtic folk metal, it's a the top of the cliff, the best album of NW in sells with glorious two new members Anette and Troy,Troy is not official member yet but his influence is in all the album is understandable.
    Tuomas Holopainen youth was great, loving family in a small village near russian borders near the woods, lakes and nature,he said that he had wonderful childhood and maybe all those good memories help him to calm his pain , his recollections from this happy era help him to survive later.
    The video song is from Swedish Finnish friendship who called Anette to sing as a Swedish singer in Finnish band, she sung also a song with Finnish lyrics from Once album called "Kuolema tekee Taiteilijan" and she was also perfect.
    Thanks again Guylain, wonderful journey to DPP, have a nice weekend.

      Yes Anette is a good singer and there would be no questions about her if she had sung from very beginning of band. But by time she joined band, a huge number of songs had already been written. Now it is impossible to imagine Nightwish performances without such cult songs as GLS, Sleeping Sun etc. It's incredibly hard for Anette to cope with them, and I confess I can't listen to those songs in her performance, it takes away that magical epicness and grandeur. With songs where pop vocals dominate, such as Ever Dream, she has no problem. Tuomas is a very demanding songwriter. I remembered how hard it was for Tarja during the recording of second Oceanborn album, when she would fall on floor with tears in her eyes and yell at the guys because Tuomas was demanding impossible. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think Anette was even relieved after she was fired.

    • @stasa-X
      @stasa-X 2 года назад +1

      I agree with you Alex, Tarja's songs from her era have a magic, I love all those songs and always will be highly in my list, her albums belong to my loving era and this never change, but Anette is amazing in her albums , she's different from Tarja , night and day I would say but it's something I can't compare. Did you ever think that if Tarja came after Anette Olzon to NW she wouldn't be as good on Anette's songs? Not because she's not good, but because she's different. But this always happens to bands when singers change, it's happened to me and others, fans identify with the era or the album they started loving and it's always hard to accept the new singer and it always hurts when you hear the song you love the next one sings it, we always compare and we shouldn't.
      But that's life i suppose,even today with Floor i always prefer the older songs with the older singers but i like Floor and i must accept it.
      Yesterday I listened to an interview of Anette in Charismatic voice and she said that I like to sing and if I knew then that the NW is such a big band I probably wouldn't have become their singer, they had a lot of demands and commitments and I wasn't ready for that, yes probably she was relieved to be gone, not maybe in the way she was kicked out, but so she could be close to her three children and do other things in her life besides music.

    • @alexr8817

      @@stasa-X That's what I'm talking about. If Anette had been first vocalist in band, Nightwish would have been what Tuomas imagined it to be in its original conception. It would have been an acoustic project, roughly what Auri is now, Anette's voice would have suited it. But history always has only one path chosen, and we have what we have. I love era with Tarja most too, but I admit that Floor does a great job with songs written for both Tarja and Anette. Although I think that some of the songs from Tarja era she will never do together with Nightwish or she will do them in a simplified version.
      Oh, Anette was a guest on Charismatic voice channel. I'll have to watch it sometime. I watched interview with Simone and it was interesting.

    • @stasa-X
      @stasa-X Год назад

      @@alexr8817 Yes that's right, with Anette Tuomas he created two but different albums that wouldn't have existed if he hadn't chosen Anette and the first five albums wouldn't have existed if Tarja's voice was different, that's just the way it is, luckily for us fans band that specific situations made the band famous and gave us these beautiful songs. I also agree that Floor can sing the songs from the previous eras in the best way although not all equally perfect, some songs have an identity and a detail that characterizes them and maybe these can differentiate them, but Swanheart or mendows of heaven will always bear the stamp of the first execution.
      Tuomas after all is not only an amazing composer and lyricist he is also a good manager, the decisions he made in replacing old members with new members maybe not in the best way, made the band more competitive and kept the fans interested by constantly adding new fans .

    • @alexr8817
      @alexr8817 Год назад

      @@stasa-X I don't agree about Tuomas' managerial giftedness. Firing female vocalists to increase popularity is not a good idea.))) Popularity and number of fans would grow without firing female vocalists. It is proven by constant growth of popularity of band with every new album in Tarja era and in Anette era. Most important thing in growth of popularity is Tuomas' ability to write good songs for each new album. And of course time goes on, marketing strategies and opportunities change. In first era, guys had to literally break through walls to get on the radio airwaves, music channels and top positions in music charts to be heard. Now we fans also contribute to the band's popularity by participating in dialogues on youtube. Videobloggers analyzing and reacting to Nightwish songs are also making band more popular all over world. You and I have seen a lot of reactions at the moment. And in that sense now is a better time for band to grow in popularity. There were no such opportunities before.
      PS. In Rammstein band for over 20 years of their existence not one member has changed but their popularity grew in times. The most important thing in attracting new fans is the ability to write great songs.

    Hey, good to be back!
    Before I recapture my "old" form of going about the texts, I will just say that I am happy you got to this beautiful song (within the context of the whole album none the less), AND you found a couple very interesting Live renditions by Annette that were unknown to me! Well done, and great pleasure. As I wrote before, unfortunately there is no great quality Live recording of "Meadows of Heaven" with NIGHTWISH - I had found one from their show in Finland, acceptable sound-wise but filmed on a "jumpy" amateur camera. Still it was easy to capture that actually BEING there must have been an awesome experience, and that this under-appreciated song made a great concert closer.
    I will surely back-watch the remainder of your DPP reaction-analyses, which I missed since "Lection Musica" came back on after the summer.
